Loved, loved, loved this book! I haven't read a good family, multi-generational book in a while, so this fit the bill. I loved the characters (even though they weren't particularly likeable at times), and they were well-developed. The story flowed well through the decades. I have read Jennifer Weiner books years ago, but this was much more substantial than I recall her other books were. I am now going back and looking for her other books to read/reread. Thanks to NetGalley for helping me re-discover this author.

As usual, Jennifer Weiner never fails to disappoint! I always anxiously await her next novel. This novel was wonderful with complex characters that kept you turning the page to find out more. Definitely a must read!

I've loved Jennifer Weiner since In Her Shoes! Whenever I go through a phase of having a hard time picking up a book, I've found hers to be a perfect balance of both substance and entertainment. Mrs. Everything did not disappoint, and I've already recommended it to several friends when they're looking for a good new fiction book to read.

What a fantastic read! In Mrs.. Everything, we follow two sisters, Jo and Bethie, from childhood to late in life. Their life journeys are complicated, dramatic, and realistic. While multiple heavy topics are discussed, it never felt overbearing or overdone. Through decades, we see how the sisters change and grow, responding to each other and to the changing world.

I generally love this author but this one just did not grab me. I started it multiple times and finally forced myself to finish. I still love her writing style and will continue to read her books!

Jennifer Weiner is usually a go-to author for me, but unfortunately this one missed the mark. I appreciate the opportunity to read and provide an honest review.

I loved this book. But I pretty much love all of Jennifer Weiner's books. It was about two sisters growing up from young kids in the 50s to 60s teens, to rebellious 70s and their stories throughout the years. Thank you Net Galley for an early release copy of this book.

I will not be reading or reviewing anymore Jennifer Weiners books as she recently showed her side of bullying bookstagrammers. Very disappointed in the behavior as I have always enjoyed her books.

Mrs. Everything is the story of two sister's lives from the 1950's to the present day. The book showcases the sister's different personalities, their similarities, their struggles, how they both changed over time.
I didn't expect to like this book as much as i did. It was powerful and had every type of emotion! I recommend to everyone.
Thank you netgalley and atria books for my review copy.

This was a poignant book about loss, the damage of abuse, being true to self, and family. A great book.

Growing up in 1950’s Detroit Jo and Bethie Kaufman had a happy childhood. Jo is a real tomboy; she’s tall, slender and likes sports. Beth’s is pretty; she worries about her weight and dreams of getting the lead role in the high school play. Unexpectedly their father passes away, home life changes, their mum needs to work, she’s constantly worried about money and not home.

Jo finishes college; she marries Dave Braverman, becomes a mother and loses herself. Beth is a free spirit she lives a nomadic life style, wearing bell bottoms jeans, taking drugs and wonders what happened to Harold Jefferson from high school?

The 1960’s and 1970’s women’s roles started to change, women’s liberation, society expectations, American was involved in the Vietnam War and had racial division. Mrs. Everything covers a variety of topics and both of the main characters of Jo and Bethie are involved and have their own personal struggles. Jo has problems with her marriage, expectations of motherhood and accepting she's a lesbian. Bethie feels she’s not good enough; she tries to forget what happened to her as a teenager and takes drugs. I received a copy of Mrs. Everything in exchange for an honest review, I gave it four stars and it has the perfect title.

I received a reviewer copy of Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner from the publisher from Atria Books from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

CW: Homophobia. Racism. Rape. Abuse against Children. Eating Disorders. Anti-semitism.

What It’s About: A fiction story that spans decades following two sister. Jo, the older daughter, is a tomboy who has never pleased her mother and loves her father. Bethie is the girly-girl who dreams of being famous. There worlds are forever changed when their father dies. This book follows the girls through the remainder of their lives.

What I Loved: Look, this book had all my must-haves in a book: a generational story that covers a family dynamic. I really grew to love these characters and connect with the struggles that they faced. The thing that is so interesting is that the sisters tend to switch roles. In the beginning Jo is the troublemaker and as the book goes on this switches to Bethie's role. I loved the way the story continued on and the sacrifices made to have a secure life in the face of bigotry and gender roles is so upsetting. The role that trauma can have on a human soul. I loved this book so much. It was really compelling to follow women in the first generation where women could be who they wanted to be but also find the challenges that went along with that. This book reminded me quite a bit of The Last Romantics (one of my top books of last year)!

What I Didn't Like So Much: There were times when some of the character's decisions and behavior was sometimes hard to read when you disagree with it because you loved the characters and wanted them to do better.

Who Should Read This: People who love books about families. People who love books about sisters. People who love multi generational stories. People who loved The Last Romantics.

Quick Summary: A story about sister's growing up and growing into their true identities and passions!

I found myself taking my time with Mrs. Everything. There were moments that I had to put the book down due to the emotional content, but by the end I had fallen completely in love with these sisters. Another incredible read by Jennifer Weiner!

The book is about a life of a woman, from her being a child to the very end. I mostly liked her. She felt more or less like a real person. I loved reading about her relationships with her sister and with her daughters, none of them perfect. It is a well written book. I enjoyed reading it, even if it is not a happy book.

This book was fantastic! One of my favorite reads of the year hands down. A coming of age story spanning across decades with well developed characters and plots... just wonderful

Mrs. Everything is one of those books I chose to read because of the time period - two sisters growing up around the same time I did (they were "born" a few years before me). They grew up in turbulent times, and in part because of those times they ended up leading very different lives. When you put their lives together, the encompass so much of what so many women experienced during the 60s and beyond. Because I am around their age, some of the timing threw me a bit. There were definitely some anachronisms - the early 60s were much different from the late 60s and early 70s, and sometimes Weiner's 1962 was much more like the real-life 1969 than 1962. But overall I enjoyed the stories of Jo and Bethie, the two very flawed yet relatable sisters at the heart of the book.
My thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

This book was awful. You have families that screw up constantly, get on their feet, then bad things happen. You have everything thrown into this book to include, racism, abortions, interracial marriage, adultery, drugs, etc etc. Took everything I had to finish this book. I didn't care for most of the characters and there was nothing likable about any of them.

This may be Jennifer Weiner's best ever. An epic tale of two sisters that spans a lifetime - decades in years, eras in US history, fads and phases of humans - all painstakingly captured. This novel has so much heart and life, it must be read.
