I think this might be my new favorite book by this author. I really like all of her books, but this one has an extra depth that isn't necessarily present in her other books. I think it has to do with the longer time frame. You basically watch the characters develop from young girls into women, through their entire lives.

Jo and Bethie are sisters, but they may be polar opposites. Jo hates dresses and wants to play sports. Bethie is more concerned about appearance and loves to act. Both face some incredible choices in their lives and what they choose defines where they end up later. But there is always a chance to make different choices.

I definitely recommend this.

Relevant historical fiction. I liked it but didn’t love it..it was long and a little slow but I loved the message.

There was just so much sexual inappropriateness/family molestation, sexual and graphic experimentation that I had to stop. For me, less is more. I enjoy authors that can write in such a way that readers can use their imagination and if young children picked this book up, they wouldn't be exposed to adult themes.
Had I known, I would have not chose this ARC which was provided by NetGalley.

My thoughts
Mrs. Everything is pretty predictable and the plot by itself has been told countless times. The lives of Jo and Bethie can be yours, mine or any other woman – it is about the roles we play to keep the world running. It is relatable and has happened to each of us, in pieces at the least, and hence “Mrs. Everything”.

I have read a few Jennifer Weiner’s books in my late teens. I remember them being lighthearted (I may be remembering it wrong), so I was surprised Mrs. Everything being so intense with multiple themes like civil rights, women rights and LGBTQA. And she has done a great job with it.

I found Mrs. Everything a bit longer than it could have been. While I loved reading about the sister’s lives, the history part felt longer and repetitive in places.

Things that worked for me
The plot and the characters felt relatable.
The author has done a great job handling multiple themes.

Things that didn’t work for me
Mrs. Everything felt a longer than it could have been.
The history part felt repetitive in places.

Bottom-line
Mrs. Everything does a perfect job of interweaving the historical facts with the lives of ordinary women, that are so closer to every other woman. If only it were shorter it would be my go to recommend for woman fiction genre, easily.

An interesting plot, well-developed characters, and well told. Yet it didn't quite engage me as it 'should' have; seemed to drag in places. But never-the-less worth read.

I saw someone describe this as a three star book with a five star message, and I completely agree. I had to push myself through this one at times. It's a book written about the lives of two sisters from their early years to being senior citizens. Just like any life story, some chapters are more interesting than others. I'm not sure I'm going to go out of my way to recommend this book, but I'm not disappointed that I read it.

I generally adore Jennifer Weiner books so was very excited to jump in when I received this. For some reason though, this fell a little flat for me. It took a while to get into it and then I DID, but pretty quickly it slowed for me. I think most readers will love this book. I plan on revisiting this story at a different point because I think I will feel differently when I am in a different place.

Such a great story about family drama and the bond between sisters. I love that the novel follows the sisters for every part of their lives. You see their personal struggles and how they can still come together for strength. Weiner is such a great story writer. I love all her books, but this one shows a deeper story and level that I haven't seen in her books before. She just keeps getting better and better.

Special thanks to Atria for providing our copy in exchange for an honest & fair review.

This is a really great story about sisters & feminism. I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Weiner & this book definitely felt different but in a great way. This is such a great book club read.

Jo had breast cancer and then was cancer free for five years. Now there appears to be a lump. She feels like the clock is ticking. Jo is married and has three daughters. I preferred Jo over her sister.

This is a great novel. I It is not the kind of book you can't wait to see what happens, but it does keep your interest. Story of two sisters who are so different, yet so alike. I highly recommend this book. Ms. Weiner is a wonderful author and I can't wait to read her next book.

This book was not Wieners greatest! It was slow and a hot mess at times. I think she tried to include every problem known to man and throw it into one book! Hopefully her next will be better! I rate this book a 1.8!

This is my 2nd book by Jennifer Weiner, and she has turned into a must read author for me! This book tells the life story of two sisters, Bethie and Jo. They both encountered a lot of life struggles, so I think a lot of people will relate to these characters. I really enjoyed this book!

I received this book for review about a year ago when I was reading a burst of ebooks. During the pandemic I find myself once again turning to my trusty ebook reader for new content. These days I've been alternating between ebooks and print books to give my eyes a rest from screen time. Just like I try to alternate between a tv show and a movie.

I'd started this last year and it was easy to fall back into the rhythm of the writing and recall what had happened to the sisters since the beginning of the book.

The novel ends just before the 2016 US Presidential election. Knowing what's happened since then this book made me wistful about the hope present during that time. I'm younger than Jo and Bethie but I recall the hope that a woman reaching the highest political office would be a tangible achievement that women would be believed when they said something horrible was done to them by a man, that women could finally have true autonomy over our bodies, and be treated with respect by all.

Weiner deftly transitions between the two stories. They orbit each other, like moons on different rotations around the planet known as their childhood, coming together on occasion to have shared experiences. I really enjoyed that each character was fleshed out and had her own story in addition to their shared story.

Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I greatly appreciated the rhythm and storytelling style Weiner presented, and felt that overall the plot had a lot of depth. That being said, the sheer volume of the historical events and the number of both life and female related challenges (because I think every scenario was captured in some way or another) was overwhelming. By the end of the long book, I was exhausted and inundated.

I am a HUGE Jennifer Weiner fan, but this book was a departure from her usual writing and I struggled to fall in love with this book or even finish it. Usually, I am grabbed by the characters and the story being told, but this time it took me a while to get to a point where I could handle the story and get to the end.

This is my first Jennifer Weiner book (I know!) and I’m just in love with it. The themes of women working toward their most authentic self, through trial and error, with nuanced, captivating characters both made my heart ache and filled it with warmth.

This genre is different from what I usually read. I don't usually read women's fiction but this sounded interesting. I really enjoyed this book and liked how it told the story through the main characters life and all her struggles and joys in life. Finding true love multiple times and being true to one self. Sacrificing things for your loved ones.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and words are mine. You can purchase yours here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mrs-Everything-Jennifer-Weiner-ebook/dp/B07P8R6DSK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Mrs.+Everything+by+Jennifer+Weiner&qid=1586970252&s=digital-text&sr=1-1

I received this book a while ago, but unfortunately, at the time, I had hit the book lottery and had too many to read. Now that I have time on my hands, I hopped to it.
We begin this book in 2015 with Jo receiving a call from the doctor. She had found a lump on her breast. The doctor wants her to come in and discuss options. This is just the beginning of the many holy moly moments in this book. There are so many moments in this book where I was screaming at the book, wanting to throw it, and sometimes just wanting to lay down and cry for the characters. We meet so many interesting characters in this book. This book addresses so many controversial issues, it is like an election year all in one book! Not the light and fluffy that I normally read or am drawn to. Intense is a mild word to use to describe this book. I am honesty wondering if this book should come with some Xanax or Valium attached for you to get through it. The characters are so well developed that I honestly felt slightly dramatized by some of the things that happen to these characters. As a mom, I was screaming at the characters, “YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!”
What better than a book with a funeral, a few weddings, rapes, protests, drugs, sex and maybe a little rock and roll? If that is your kind of book, this one is for you! Despite the topics, this book was a respite from Pandemic. It was nice to worry about someone else’s problems instead of the current issues. The characters were well developed and people you probably live in the house next to or even know. This book toggles between different characters. I love Jennifer Weiner and look forward to my next book by her. This is my fifth book by her!
