Andrew Hunter is a PI who takes on unusual cases -- not because he has to in order to eat, but because he finds them interesting. He's a rare breed -- an honest guy, very ordinary with a bit of humorous bent. He and his office assistant employee, Jenny, take on a couple of investigations in this third book of the series.
Nearly a year ago, a young woman who had way too much to drink is fished from the canal. Despite police doing their thing, the death is ruled accidental. The woman's mother doesn't believe it was an accident and thinks that a local footballer is responsible because he was the boyfriend. And there are rumors that he isn't a very nice guy. Hunter decides to look into the matter and starts talking to some people connected to the incident. It seems there is a pretty big price to pay for fame and adulation in that world and Hunter has a hard time getting it all pieced together. He's also still in a debt owed position with a former nemesis and finds himself looking for a particular violin. It's all business as usual -- but wait, now Hunter's ex-wife has appeared on the scene...
This novel fell a bit flat for me. The case wasn't very exciting and some of the stuff that Hunter did just seemed kind of stupid to me. Yeah he's rich and doesn't need to work, but the way he responds in situations doesn't really ring true. I'm having a hard time dealing with his personality and approach to running his investigative firm and I'm finding it hard to warm to him. And the whole Jenny thing just drove me wild with all these dangling hints and insinuations and then NO ANSWERS. Really? Believe me, it's not a hook for the next book as it was just totally annoying. Now I honestly don't even care. I felt the whole conclusion was pretty lame and anticlimactic so this one was a bit of a disappointment after all my anticipation. I may or may not be interested in the next one of this series after all.
I'd recommend that you read this series from the beginning in order because otherwise you might be a bit lost. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my introduction to bakery Wilkinson’s writing, and it didn’t disappoint!
The plot follows Andrew Hunter, an investigator, and his partner Jenny as they try to uncover a murder mystery.
The plot is fast-paced and has lots of twists and turns. I felt like I was watching a law and order episode where my heart was pounding wondering if we finally caught the killer!
This is perfect for those who crave a fast paced thriller but also looks for character depth and development. I definitely recommend this book!
4/5 stars!
This is the third Andrew Hunter book, always a bit different than Kerry's other series, I love Andrews assistant, Jenny gets stuck in to the job, you can't beat Kerry wilkinson for keeping you on your toes, Oh, keeping you up all night as well, another great book.
This was my first Andrew Hunter story, an interesting and different angle for this private investigation. Seems to operate on the fringes of major criminals and gets results. He uses this knowledge to bring a climax to the case.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Something Buried’, third in the Andrew Hunter series written by Kerry Wilkinson, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Andrew Hunter is a private investigator and is visited by Anna Applegate asking for his help to discover the truth of her daughter Michelle’s death after her body is found in the canal. The police investigate and class it as accidental as she’d been drinking heavily that evening but Anna believes that Michelle’s football-star boyfriend Jack Marsh is responsible. Aided by his assistant, the sweet-toothed Jenny Mays, Andrew starts asking questions in an attempt to find out what really happened.
What I enjoy most about Kerry Wilkinson’s novels is that when I pick one up I don’t know what to expect as no two are the same. I’ve read quite a few but this is my first encounter with Andrew Hunter and it won’t be the last. ‘Something Buried’ is a fast-paced and well-written thriller with an exciting plot, twists and turns, some dubious characters I wouldn’t like to meet in the dark, and the descriptive phrases were so brilliant they had me grinning from ear to ear. As soon as I started reading I knew I was going to enjoy it and couldn’t put my kindle down until I’d reached the staggering conclusion. I’m now going to read books one and two to find out more about Jenny and how she started working for Andrew. Thanks, Kerry, for another very enjoyable read!
Thank you to #NetGalley and #bookouture for this ARC
#SomethingBuried is the third book in the Andrew Hunter series and while it can be read as a stand alone, the character development would play out better as part of the series. The reader is taken on an investigative ride as PI, Andrew Hunter and his partner, Jenny investigate the suspected murder of a young woman. While the reader is introduced to a whole new cast of characters, @KerryWilkinson brings along some old favorites as well. The narrative is complex and appeals to the genre with a fast paced plot full of suspense and mystery. Great read. 5 stars.
Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this copy
Anna Applegate’s daughter, Michelle, drowned after a night out with a friend. Anna’s convinced Michelle’s death was deliberate, and that her boyfriend, sports star Jack Marsh, killed her.
I'm a huge fan of Kerry Wilkinson and have read all of his books to date and I'm thoroughly enjoying the Andrew Hunter series. Something Buried is the fourth book in the series and I would definitely recommend you read them in order for max enjoyment.
Anna Applegate’s daughter, Michelle, is found dead having drowned after a night out with her friend. Anna is convinced Michelle’s death is not an accident and she is sure her boyfriend killed her. Andrew Hunter is on the case and he quickly discovers Jack has a history of violence. And he is convinced Jack’s lying about where he was the night Michelle died. Then an old enemy Braithwaite a crime boss comes to Andrew demand he help him to find a stolen violin and threatens to put Andrew’s loved ones in danger to get what he wants.
This series just keeps getting better and better I read this almost in one sitting I just couldn't put it down. Kerry has a way of drawing you in straightaway and you can't move until you've turned the last page.
Thank you to Bookouture, Kerry Wilkinson and NetGalley for the arc of Something Buried my review is honest and unbiased in any way.
This is the 3rd book in the series. I recommend you read them in order. The "cases" are not connected but Andrew and Jenny's relationship evolves with each book. A young woman is found drowned in a canal and the cause of death is alcohol poisoning as she was drunk. Her mother is convinced the daughter's boyfriend murdered her. An old nemesis of Andrew also demands Andrew's help in finding a stolen violin. I really enjoy this series. The characters are great. I look forward to reading Book 4. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
4 stars
Michelle Applegate was found drowned in a canal. While the police investigated, no leads were found and the case went cold. Her mother, Anna Applegate hired private detective Andrew Hunter and his sidekick Jenny to look into the case. She is sure that football star Jack Marsh had something to do with the death. The police looked at him, of course, but he had a solid alibi and was playing cards with his teammates in a hotel and never left the building.
Jenny is a somewhat mysterious young woman who has a craving/love for sweets and is fiercely loyal to Andrew. Together they investigate the apparent murder of Michelle. Meanwhile, an old nemesis of Andrew's come out to play. Braithwaite, a local crime boss, wants Andrew to do some “favors” for him, like locate a stolen violin. Andrew knows Braithwaite's trouble, but can't see any way out of helping him for Braithwaite is also violent and doesn't take “no” for an answer.
Michelle was a party girl. She had a dream of marrying a “big star” and visited the local clubs in hopes of meeting one. She drank too much. In fact the coroner put down her death as “alcohol poisoning.”
As Andrew and Jenny investigate Michelle's death (and the stolen violin case), they learn some really interesting facts about both Michelle and Jack. This leads them through layers of clues and they talk to many people, some fairly nice and some not so nice.
Then Jenny disappears.
The killer's identity came as surprise to me. The motive was pure television drama. I shook my head at the stupid-ness of it all.
I liked Andrew and Jenny much better than Mr. Wilkinson's Jessica Daniel series. They are much better characters and more believable than Detective Daniels. I like the way Andrew and Jenny get along and I like Jenny's sense of mysteriousness about her. This is a well written and plotted book and although it is my first Andrew and Jenny story, it won't be my last. I truly enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next in the series and catching up with the two books I missed.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this great book for me to read, enjoy and review.
Another gritty story portraying Andrew and his mysterious partner. I like the interactions between them. Good story, fast paced.
Andrew Hunter is back! He brings with him a few old faces and a few new characters. Action and excitement abound as in Kerry Wilkinson's first two books in this series. Both Jenny and Thomas Braithwite return - and with them some very interesting additions to this read! Although you should enjoy the first two reads in this series, first, this story can also be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book (as well as the series) to all!
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a wonderful read!!!
Book three in the Andrew Hunter series. The girlfriend of a famous football player is found in the canal! Her mother suspects her footballer boyfriend is responsible and wants Andrew to prove it.
There are a few sub plots mixed in, involving a rich gangster and his side kick thug!
Andrew and his assistant, seemingly mysterious Jenny, are kept busy.
Lots of twists. Finished it in a day.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc.
An atmospheric and tense read. Something Buried explores motherly intuition and the dogged determination of two P.I.s as they work to uncover what’s being hidde.
With several sub-plots and a cast of characters, Something Buried is an entertaining read.
