This is a retelling of when Alice returns to Wonderland after being committed by her family to a mental asylum where they are going to perform a lobotomy on her. The original characters are all here, the queen of hearts, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter etc. as well as the four other card deck queens and kings. However, there are two issues I had with the story and the major one was tone. The overall theme of the Alice being insane and the darkness of the Queen of Hearts was never fully committed to. I have read other darker versions of Alice in Wonderland and this one tries to be both charming and dark and fails at both. There is a disconnect. There are also several plot lines left unresolved and the ending feels tacked on and incomplete.

I loved the retelling of Alice in wonderland! This story follows a similar path but differences along the way make it a story of its own ! I loved how 7:37 throughout the book had such a sinister meaning at the end, probably my favorite part! Hoping for a second to see what shall become of the new Alice !

I’m usually excited about retellings as they can be a pretty cool adaptation of the original tales (I am a huge fan of the Lunar Chronicles). Being a big fan of Alice in Wonderland I was excited to see the continuation of the tale. Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite hold to my expectations. The idea was there but the character development I found to be a bit underdone. I’m giving it a 3* because there were some parts that were creative and quirky, and I must admit that the ending was pretty good. Overall though the book just didn’t hold my attention like I hoped. Please also keep in mind that everyone’s tastes differ so this could be a much more captivating read for a different reader.

After returning from Wonderland, and sharing these stories, Alice ended up in an asylum. Her stories, and her unwavering belief that she had visited there made everyone dear to her believe that she has gone mad. After being visited by Ralph (the White Rabbit) who is asking for help to get rid of Rosamund (The Queen of Hearts). After returning to Wonderland, Alice learns that she has to help destroy the Queen.

This story was fun and quirky. The constant switch between characters viewpoints kept the story fun. I usually do not like stories that character hop, but this one was able to do it well.

I highly recommend this story.

I received an advanced electronic copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Ugh.

For me, this book was awful.

I don't know if the author is American but the language used when any of the characters spoke seemed fake. As though someone who may not know how a native English person would speak was trying to imagine the words that we would use - and failing miserably.

This is a portion of the original review on my book blog......
Let me start off by acknowledging that taking the iconic characters associated with the childhood of many and dynamically transforming them to fit into a Young Adult (YA) genre is a splendid idea, and one tough to execute.

One of the fascinating reasons why Lewis Carroll’s Alice became an influential literary character and continues to appeal the young and old alike is because she, as a character is amazingly open to be continuously re-imagined. A fact that author H.J. Ramsay has made excellent use of.

I am impressed how ‘Ever Alice‘ adapts to the shift from a childhood wonder to YA excitement and intrigue. H.J. Ramsay has given her unique twist to this story of the literary nonsense genre which introduces elements of the suspense, sinister and romance, still paying homage to Lewis Carroll’s unforgettable word play and delightful manoueveres of logic.

The author respectfully makes the story her own. Our beloved characters are still cray cray, oh yes they are, but more naturally so.

A story that has molded familiar characters into a whole new level of maturity, ‘Ever Alice‘ is enjoyable and comfortable. I was hooked by the backstories given to each of those nostalgic characters. Especially the story of how the Queen of Hearts found the White Rabbit and made him her minister. You need to read that!

The right dose of humor with a good dash of madness, sounds absolutely perfect…… Go visit Wonderland once again.

I have to say that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I was going to. It really didn't hold my attention all that well and I didn't finish it. Sorry.

I've been looking for a good Alice in Wonderland retelling ever since I finished "Splintered" by AG Howard, and this certainly fit the bill. It's a well written and (historically) researched book about what might have actually happened to Alice if she'd been a real girl in the Victorian era.

This book was such a disappointment. It's a great idea to return to Wonderland with a slightly older Alice and explore mental health in the 'real world' but unfortunately the real world is underexplored along with mental helath. As for Wonderland, the familiar characters are there but there's no character devlopment, very little in the way of plot and there's no pace to any of the narrative. I really wanted to like this book but as the novel went on it became harder and harder to make myself finish it.

The joy of falling back down the rabbit hole. ‘Ever Alice’ did the job brilliantly. There’s a beauty to its horror. To its sadness. The anaphoric tick tock, struck well at the chime of the last chapter. Simply stunning.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. I don't feel as though I can write a thorough review of it because I stopped at the 90-page mark. For me, I couldn't get into the story and it made reading it a chore.

The writing was decent—as is the story—I just couldn't connect though.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have always had a special place in my heart for Alice retelling and continuations and this one didn't let me down. Alice and Wonderland were expanded upon and still portrayed as whimsical if still dangerous in places. It was a really fun story and a refreshing take on a heroine so many of us love.

15 year old Alice is facing an Asylum if she continues talking about Wonderland, which she believes to be real. When the White Rabbit rescues her and brings her to Wonderland, it's out of the Frying pan and into the fire when she's tasked with killing her old foe The Queen of Hearts. Old friends and new appear to help or hinder Alice. Will she make it through her adventure without losing her head?

As soon as I picked up this book it was all I talked about until I finished it. The plot and characters were well written and it definitely stands out amidst all of the Alice in Wonderland retellings. The plot is unlike any Alice in Wonderland retelling that i've seen going back and forth with Alice's mental state and her story line of being tasked with assassinating the Queen of Hearts. This book is a quick read and the ending was perfect. It helped me get out of a book slump and I recommend everyone picks it up!

I usually love retellings, and I've read a few Alice ones that I've loved. Sadly, this wasn't one of them. I felt her character was too underdeveloped. As was the Queen of Hearts. As for the story, just nothing engaging enough.

I cannot get enough of this book! I love finding alternate stories of popular ones! This was so good! This book takes you on the adventure of Alice being put in a mental hospital for her crazy story telling that you might recognize from the original story, after leaving Wonderland. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was really excited for this book since Alice in Wonderland retellings, or in this case, a sequel of it, have always been my favourite.
The premise sounded really exciting and all, but I unfortunately just couldn't get into it, I didn't click with it; which is a shame because it sounded like a book I would usually enjoyed.

I received this book from Netgalley to review.

I really loved this book and the continuation of Alice in Wonderland. The book was well written and very entertaining. It was also nice to read from the Queen of Hearts perspective. I would recommend this to anyone.

I think I've read pretty much every Alice In Wonderland variation. The classic is my absolute favorite. In this version, Alice is in an asylum. Its absolutely dark and amazing. A definite must read if you're an Alice In Wonderland fan.

Ever Alive continues with the journey of Alice but in a darker sense of the story. For fans of the original Carroll tale, this is a fun journey back down the rabbit hole.
