Really enjoyed this book. Great plot and engaging, believe characters. I was drawn right into the story. Would definitely recommend.
Murder at the Marina by Janet Finsilver is by far one of my favorite cozy mysteries. Everything from the character development to the scenes to the storyline all come together to make a great read.
It’s the perfect kind of book you don’t want to put down until the very end. A great whodunnit and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good cozy mystery.
I love everything about the Kelly Jackson Mysteries... the plot, the setting, the characters, and the mysteries. This series has something for everyone. The setting of Redwood Cove is to die for, no pun intended. The characters are all very well developed, likable, and they all play their part in the stories. From Tommy, the child with Asperger Syndrome, and his dog Fred to all the Silver Sentinels, there is definitely a character for you. There is always a new hobby or event to explore in town and Janet Finsilver has a way of making you feel like you are experiencing it with the cast.
Another wonderful addition to "A Kelly Jackson Mystery". Kelly and the Silver Sentinels have another mystery to solve during another special event. This story highlights Russian brothers, Rudy and Ivan. It is the Russian Festival gearing up when a coin dealer that the brothers deal with is found dead. There is also a knife with blood on it found on the deck of their boat, "The Nadia". Not wanting their friends and fellow sentinels arrested for a murder they know they couldn't have committed, the team gears up for another investigation. There is also another mystery solved in this story that is personal to the brothers.
The Silver Sentinels do another wonderful job with this mystery. One of the things I like about these mysteries is that they work in conjunction with the police and share everything they learn. There are several suspects and I changed my mind several times about who I thought the culprit was. There were several red herrings and clues dropped along the way, that had me guessing. I always enjoy the final showdown in this series and this one was no exception, Kelly is once again in danger, but not as serious this time. I really enjoyed learning about the history of Russian settlers along the east coast of the US. It was also great to get to know more about two of the characters in this series. The story was well-written, the plot well-developed and the setting and wonderful characters make this series enjoyable. Throw in a couple of children and animals and this book has a bit of something for everyone.
This was a fun, cute cozy mystery! I love the theme throughout, and I will definitely be continuing with the series.
Dark mystery that sucks you into a different place. A nightmare where no one wants to be. Good read. Can’t put it down. Wondering where it’s going to go And which way to turn
Kelly Jackson, manager of the Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast, arranges to meet the Doblinsky brothers at their boat but when she gets there early she sees a dagger which appears to be covered in blood so she calls the sheriff. When the brothers arrive and explain that the dagger looks like one that they own, the sheriff requests to see theirs. This dagger brings to light the back story of two aristocratic brothers who fled Russia in their childhood.
After examination, the dagger it is determined not to be blood, so the Sheriff holds on to the dagger since apparently someone trespassed on the boat. Several days later, the body of an antique dealer is found on the boat murdered.
The Doblinsky Brothers seem to be in the thick whatever brought about the murder, so Kelly calls on the Silver Sentinels, a group elderly amateur detectives to find out what happened and why thereby helping their friends be freed from suspicion.
Love the Silver Sentinels! It is so encouraging to have characters that are past retirement age but still show the intelligence and determination that we baby boomers have. The mystery was very interesting with the background of the Russian Aristocracy and as always the characters did not disappoint.
Murder at the Marina
by Janet Finsilver
Kelly Jackson grew up on a Wyoming ranch enjoying barrel racing, but moved to Redwood Cove in Northern California where she manages the Redwood Cove B&B and is an honorary member of the Silver Sentinels, a group of senior citizens who solve crime to help their community. In this cozy mystery they are called on to help two of their own, the Russian brothers Rudy and Ivan, who have a cloud of murder over their heads.
This book is replete with Russian culture and some history as the area hosts the Russian Heritage Festival. We also learn of the aristocratic family background of the brothers. The most fun and exciting part of the story is the inclusion of a remarkable Cossack riding team. I felt like I was right there watching their amazing feats. There are many possible suspects, and danger lurks in surprising places. I could read the book again just for the fun and entertainment of the last third, which would be meaningless without the development that occurs in the first part of the book. If you enjoy watching an investigation unfold, read Janet Finsilver’s Murder at the Marina where there are many pathways to the truth and clues for the sleuths to chart as they track down the murderers.
I would like to extend my thanks to netgalley.com and to Lyrical Underground (Kensington Press) for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Memorable Lines:
The smells and sounds of the sea mixed together—an orchestra of sensation. Ocean mist covered my face and my skin tingled from its cool touch.
“You all give generously of your time and your caring. It’s your nature. Accepting a gift is a form of giving.”
I really enjoy both the cozy setting and the likable characters in this series. The story in this installment has a Russian theme and there is some interesting background that just adds to the intrigue. A great plot and characters I was really invested in made this one hard to put down.
Murder at the Marina is book #5 in the Kelly Jackson mystery series, but can easily be read as a standalone.
This is a great addition to the Kelly Jackson Mystery series. This is book 5 and it's a winner. It can be read as a stand alone but the whole series is wonderful. Kelly is blessed with her friends in the Silver Sentinels and enjoying her job and manager of the Redwood Cove B&B on the coast of Washington. This story centers on the Doblinsky brothers and the Russian Heritage festival. Lots of interesting info on the Russian culture and history tucked into the story. Murder seems to be the norm for the Sentinel group as they aid the police in yet another case. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was a very interesting story with a little bit an Anastasia feel to it. A small coastal town with strong Russian roots, a few mysterious deaths, Russian antiquities, a group of mature sluethers, and our intrepid B&B host and former barrel rider Kelly Jackson. Kelly is a great character very warm and realistic. I love that more and more books are embracing the idea of an older group of citizens who take it upon themselves to solve who-done-its with the help of the able bodied main character. I also enjoyed the multi thread story lines that crossed and in some cases tied up into nice little bows. The plot kept me guessing until the very end and I still didn't have it completely figured out but it made complete sense. I can't wait to see what Kelly cooks up at her next lesson with the handsome and talented chef Scott.
The newest addition to this cozy mystery series will not disappoint fans as we follow Kelly during her sleuthing again. Things start pretty smooth with excitement for an upon my Russian festival. Then we get an expensive dagger covered in what looks like blood followed by dead bodies all found on Ivan and Rudys' boat at the marina. If course Kelly finds herself neck deep in the discoveries for the most whether she wants to or not. I enjoy following the development of the clues all gathered and organized by the group dedicated to helping her. The eclectic mix of characters provide a nice balance topped with what sounds like delicious food that will the reader entertained. Perfect for fans of cozies. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
The fifth installment in the Kelly Jackson mystery series brings back Kelly Jackson, new manager and new to Redwood Cove and her bed and breakfast. Returning secondary characters include the Silver Sentinels, who have become instrumental in providing support for Kelly in her sleuthing missions in the remote northern California area. She and Helen, her main staff member providing meals and snacks, are preparing for the Russian Heritage Festival. Ivan and Rudy, two of her Silver Sentinels, are part of the local Russian community. They have been trying to get Kelly down to the marina to see their fishing vessel but when she arrives before they do, she notices something inside the galley that appears to be a bloodied jewel-encrusted dagger.
After bringing in her burgeoning romantic interest, the local deputy sheriff Bill Stanton, events begin to escalate and soon a body is found on the boat as well, leading suspicions to the boat owners, the Russian brothers. Apparently the brothers have quite a store of treasures brought with them and were hoping to reconnect with family after arriving in San Francisco. The knife is part of a set, but the dagger found on their boat is not from their holdings.
With two of their own under suspicion, the crime-solving seniors, along with Kelly will proceed to investigate their Russian history, valuables, and links back to San Francisco. Helen takes up the slack and fills in with foods, snacks, and desserts when they meet at the Redwood Cove B&B.
I really enjoyed the Russian history as well as the festival highlights, foods (baklava--yum!), dancing, and the Cossack riding team, imagining their magnificent costumes and precision equestrian presentation. The author has a good knowledge base of horses as well as dogs!
This is a fun well-paced cozy, with compelling characters, and location. I was given the ebook download by the publisher and NetGalley for this blog tour and appreciate the opportunity to read and review.
I always enjoy a trip back to Redwood Cove to visit with Kelly Jackson and all her friends. I just love the Silver Sentinels, the senior group of sleuths that always helps solve cases in Redwood Cove. They all have their individual parts, a lot of which includes internet research. It was fun to see Kelly and Scott get a little bit closer. I liked learning a little more about the Doblinsky brothers, Ivan and Rudy, who were also part of the Silver Sentinels. They got to reconnect with some family, and their own little family of Sentinels was more than determined to get to the bottom of the murders that happened.
I love how these books always include normal life as well as the main mystery--and they do a really nice wrap-up at the end. Deputy Bill Stanton was training a bloodhound named Gus who liked to come to the Inn and play with Fred, Tommy's basset hound. Tommy was so interested in teaching Fred how to track like Gus, that he looked it all up online and was practicing with his friend Allie. The scene with Scott teaching Kelly how to make an apple pie was really funny. I hope they do eventually get together, but Scott is so sweet in giving Kelly all the space she needs after her nasty divorce. I'm always anxious for the next book in this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick fun read. I would read more by this author and am excited to read more in this series!
Russian against Russian
Murder at the Marina by Janet Finsilver is an excellent book and apart of a series that I wouldn't mind reading from the beginning. Kelly is a fantastic character, and the story was great.
Kelly
Kelly is our main character, the point-of-view narrator, and sleuth extraordinaire with her trustee Silver Sentientils group to help out. She works as the manager of Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast, and occasionally help out with the local old people group that solves crimes. Kelly is a great character, and I loved her a lot. She is different than the other sleuths that I have read since she has a group of other sleuths to help her out and that she rides horses. Not only that but she likes her job and seems to enjoy it. Kelly seems like she can go far in this series and that it looks like she has a budding relationship with a guy named Scott. Scott is teaching her how to cook and bake which is pretty funny in this one.
Rudy and Ivan
Rudy and Ivan Doblinsky are two Russian brothers who are in the middle of a case. No one in the police wants to do anything against the brothers as everyone seems to like them. Rudy is the youngest of the two and can talk in perfect English while Ivan is the oldest speaks in clipped English. Their story is a pretty interesting one, and I felt terrible for them since they don't deserve what is happening to them.
Mystery
The crime is that they found a dagger on their boat with blood on it that seems to be familiar to the two brothers. The other crime is that a dead guy who Rudy was going to sell some coins to is found dead on their boat. Kelly and the Silver Sentientils are there to help them figure out who did it. Well, when the police don't mind them trying to butt in. I had a feeling about who it was, but I wasn't sure. Let's just say that you have to pay attention to all the clues to make heads or tails and keep track of the suspects.
Five Stars
Murder at the Marina by Janet Finsliver is a mind gripping book that couldn't put down until figured out what was going on. I did feel bad for the Doblinsky brothers. I was even more invested every single time the red herring I thought did it proved to be false. The rating for this book is five stars, and I am recommending it to anyone that likes cozy mysteries and the California coast.
Anyways until the next time enjoy this review brought to you by,

The past and present collide in Redwood Cove with the start of the Russian Heritage Festival. Kelly Jackson manages the Redwood Cove B&B and is an 'not yet silver' member of the Silver Sentinels, a group of senior men and women who assist the police in various investigations. All that is on Kelly's mind right now is the festival and her invitation to go on board the Nadia, the boat owned by Ivan and Rudy, Russian immigrant brothers. and members of the Silver Sentinels. Their family fled Russia in the early 1940's, splitting into two groups. Ivan and Rudy joined their uncle and lost contact with the rest of their family. When a jeweled dagger - one of three known by the brothers to exist - covered in blood is found on the Nadia, the brothers recognize it - but it isn't their dagger. How did it get there and will it lead to answers about their family? Not long afterwards, the body of a local antiques dealer is found on the Nadia and the police focus their investigation on the two brothers. The dealer bought and sold Russian antiques and that ties to Ivan and Rudy.
Kelly and the Silver Sentinels are ready to investigate and the reader learns a lot about Russian history and the ties to Northern California forts. I found it fascinating, making this mystery very satisfying.with a tension filled ending. The characters are well developed and are people I wouldn't mind spending more time with. Add a couple of great dogs and I'm hooked. If you are new to this series, no worries, it stands on its own very well.
Awesome book, I can hardly wait for the next one in the series. This is a really good mystery with a good story line.
OH MY WORD!!! how have I missed such a wonderful series of books, I came in with this one and when I started reading I didn't even stop to eat! This is a must have read with a fantastic mix of characters!
Kelly and her team are helping out the local Russian Festival by providing a) rooms and b) conference facilities, at one of the conferences Kelly over hears a rather heated exchange, which comes back to haunt her after one of the arguers is found dead, the problems arise when two of the Silver Sentinels (the five crime solving senior members, Kelly is not yet a full member as she has yet to have silver hair!) have links, a dagger was found on their boat and now the dead man. Kelly, the rest of the Silver Sentinels and even the Deputy Sheriff are beyond certain that neither Ivan or Rudy have anything to do with either problem, but it seems someone is determined to involve them one way or another. Now all the Silver Sentinels (and Kelly) will need to find out what really happened and why so that Ivan and Rudy can have some peace again, oh and so that the festival can go off without a hitch as well!
Murder at the Marina by Janet Finsilver is the fifth A Kelly Jackson Mystery. Kelly Jackson is the manager of Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast in Redwood Cove, California. The B&B along with the other inn’s in town are booked for the upcoming Russian Heritage Festival. Kelly has been invited to tour the Doblinsky brother’s boat, Nadia. Kelly has gotten to know Rudy and Ivan Doblinsky through the Silver Sentinels—the crime solving senior citizens who have helped Kelly solve several mysteries. She arrives at the boat and discovers a jeweled dagger with blood on it. Rudy says the knife is similar to one he owns that he inherited from his father that is part of a three piece set. Over tea, Ivan and Rudy share their surprising ancestry with Kelly along with a secret. Then Alexander Koskov, who owns Russian Treasures and one of the organizers for the Russian Heritage Festival, is found dead on the Nadia. With Rudy and Ivan suspects in the crime, Kelly assembles the Silver Sentinels to help disseminate the clues. Kelly delves into the case looking for clues and questioning suspects. Matters take a downward turn when another body is found on the Doblinsky’s boat. Can Kelly solve the crime before the killer strikes again?
Murder at the Marina may be the fifth A Kelly Jackson Mystery, but it can be read as a standalone. The author provides the necessary background information for new readers. Kelly Jackson loves her job as the manager of the Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast. She has made some good friends and has a budding romance with Scott Thompson who manages the Redwood Cove Community Center. Kelly is a friendly character who continues to develop in each story. She is trying to get over her trust issues with men and she is learning how to cook. Scott decides to give her a baking lesson which gave me the giggles. After an incident with flour, she tells Scott that he “would make a very distinguished Silver Sentinel”. The Silver Sentinels are a diverse group of older men and women who each bring a different talent to the group. I hope we get to learn more about each member as the series progresses. I thought Murder at the Marina was well-written with steady pacing which made for an easy to read story. I enjoyed getting to know more about Rudy and Ivan Doblinsky. I believe readers will be surprised at their heritage. I found the Russian aspects of the story very interesting. I delighted in the descriptions of the Cossack riders and their demonstration. I thought the mystery in this edition was more complex. The conclusion of the whodunit was just fabulous and had me quickly flipping the pages of my e-reader. It is an action packed reveal which I just loved. Helen, Tommy, Allie and the dogs add to this charming cozy mystery. Gus and Fred, the two dogs, are adorable and clever. I could have done without the case details being repeated (seems like Kelly would get information, share with Deputy Bill Stanton, then with Silver Sentinels). Murder at the Marina combines murder, a Russian dagger, senior sleuths, a nosy B&B manager, Cossack riders and a helpful hound into one diverting cozy mystery.
