I quite enjoyed reading The Body in the Wetlands.
The author does a great job in the storyline and character development.
Synopsis: When established house flippers Jazzi Zanders and her cousin Jerod donate a week’s worth of remodeling work to Jazzi’s sister Olivia, they’re expecting nothing more than back-breaking roofing work and cold beers at the end of each long, hot day. With Jazzi’s live-in boyfriend and partner Ansel on the team, it promises to be a quick break before starting their next big project—until Leo, an elderly neighbor of Olivia’s, unexpectedly goes missing . . .
I highly recommend this book! Can't wait to read more from this author.
I really liked this mystery. The characters were well-developed with natural and unique speech patterns. The mystery was well written and kept me guessing. The house flipping concept and information were fun to read and learn about. The relationships didn’t feel forced and as a whole, it was very engaging. I will definitely read more in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley, Judi Lynn, and Kensington Books for giving me the chance to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
I really loved this book in a new to me author. The characters and location really and to the story. I can't wait to read the next one. This book keeps you guessing until the end.
This is the second book in A Jazzi Zanders Mystery series by Judi Lynn. Even though the mystery in the book is self-contained, I recommend you go back and read the first book in the series for a full understanding of the characters, however you can still enjoy this book without doing that. Jazzi and Jerod, her cousin, hear the news of a missing neighbour. He is a brain damaged man, whose mental and emotional age are much younger than he is. Everyone is worried about him, especially when they find his bicycle far from town. When an elderly neighbour also disappears while out walking his dog, Jazzi is worried. She follows his dog hoping to find him, but what she finds is another corpse, that of a missing woman, so the police are on this case and the local detective asks Jazzi if she has any information or insight. Although not official, the police in this series encourage Jazzi to investigate as long as she keeps them apprised of what she finds out. In this book, Jazzi, Jerod and their crew are working on her sister's house, and Ansel, her boyfriend is back home on the farm helping his parents.
This is a cozy mystery with romance and humor. The mystery was well developed and had a lot of twists and red herrings. Some of the suspects were not very nice and I was pretty sure I had it all figured out. As often happens in cozy mysteries, our protagonist stumbles onto information and before she has a chance to tell the police, the suspect has figured out that she is onto him/her. Can Jazzi get out of the situation without getting hurt. I really enjoy Jazzi's family and the house flipping aspect of the series. This is an interesting, light and fun series, and I am looking forward to reading more about Jazzi Zanders.
I have struggled with the romance in this series since book one. He just doesn’t do anything for me. However, I do like how Jazzy “works” on the mysteries. I feel she does a better job then her contemporaries by not putting herself in silly situations with the bad guys.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, which I voluntarily chose to review.
This was a fun, cute cozy mystery! I love the theme throughout, and I will definitely be continuing with the series.
The Body in the Wetlands by Judi Lynn is the second book in the cozy A Jazzi Zanders Mystery series. As with most cozy mystery series each book can be read by themselves or in any order as they contain and solve their own mystery stories inside. However, starting from the beginning gives the full character development that happens along the way.
The first book of the series, The Body in the Attic, introduced readers to Jazzi Zanders who along with her cousin Jerod are in the flipping houses business. Now if anyone isn’t familiar with house flipping it’s buying up properties at a low cost then renovating them to sell for profit. I blame plenty of doctor/hospital trips for my new found love of HGTV and these type of shows since they seem to air in waiting rooms everywhere.
This latest book of the series has Jazzi and her flipping team on a bit of a break between big projects and donating some manpower to Jazzi’s sister Olivia, helping her remodel. With each day of work Jazzi finds herself conversing with an elderly neighbor, Leo, as he’s out walking so when Leo goes missing Jazzi needs to find out why.
Most that follow my reviews know I have a soft spot for small town stories and cozy mysteries so being from Indiana myself this series immediately caught my eye being set in a small town in my home state and featuring that HGTV type of characters I couldn’t resist and definitely enjoy these. While enjoying the series though I haven’t felt it’s not without little issues here and there and would again rate this second edition at 3.5 stars but hope for a ‘killer’ book three.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I struggled to get into the first Jazzi Zander’s mystery, but with this one most the introductions and world building was done so I whizzed right through this second mystery.
Jazzy Ansel and Jerod are working on the house Olivia and Thane purchased. Jazzi meets the across the street neighbor Leo and his dog. Leo likes to talk and he has a strong sense of how things ought to be. When he goes missing and his dog comes to Jazzi for help, Jazzi is sucked right back into dead bodies and murder.
There were some good mis-directions and suspects. It is still interesting to me that Detective Gaff takes Jazzi along to his interviews instead of having a partner but it works for the storyline the author is presenting.
This murder is about selfishness and it’s sad so many lives are ended for one person’s issues. Body count four.
Ansel misses part of the mystery when he heads to Wisconsin to help his family while they are down.
As with the last book, I enjoy all Jazzi’s family interactions.

Jazzi, her boyfriend Ansel, and her cousin Jerrod are back, but before moving on to flip another house, they are helping to remodel Jazzi’s sister, Olivia’s, house. While working at Olivia’s house, Jazzi gets to know Leo, an elderly neighbor who loves to chat and walk his dog. One day, Leo’s dog shows up without him, so Jazzi decides to take him home, and once there, finds out that Leo is missing. She calls her friend, Detective Gaff, to help in the search for Leo. While there, the dog continues to nudge Jazzi until he gets her to take him for a walk. He leads Jazzi to a nearby wetland. There he helps to unearth not one, but two bodies, neither of which turns out to be Leo. Jazzi wonders how she has managed to find herself entangled in yet more murders, but thanks her lucky stars that her family is not involved this time. Even so, Jazzi feels pulled to the case, and can’t help but wonder what happened to Leo and who the other two poor souls are. Detective Gaff enlists Jazzi’s help because he believes that people find it easier to talk to her than a detective. The two of them set out to find some answers and capture a killer.
The Body in the Wetlands is the second book in the Jazzi Zanders mystery series, and it is every bit as good as the first one. One of the winning qualities of this series is Jazzi herself. She is a strong character who flips houses, whips up large family meals, makes quality time with her boyfriend, and still finds time to help Detective Gaff. She’s the total package! Her character is unique in the fact that she works with the law, rather than constantly putting herself in precarious situations.
I also like Ansel’s side story. We get to know his family, and in doing so, get to know him better as well. The author does a great job contrasting Ansel and Jazzi’s families. Ansel’s time away from Jazzi also provides the opportunity to put their relationship to the test. Are Jazzi and Ansel meant for each other?
I also loved the mystery in this story. It is a well-woven tale and keeps you wanting to read on. Each of the suspects seem like viable possibilities. Some you even hope don’t turn out to be the killer. I also enjoyed the manner in which the author wraps up the mystery.
I think cozy mystery fans will love this book. I know I’m looking forward to the third book in this series, The Body in the Gravel.
Thanks to Net Galley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Underground for an ARC of this book. #NetGalley #TheBodyInTheWetlands
I loved "The Body in The Wetlands" which is the second book in the 'Jazzi Zanders Mystery' series.
Jazzi Zanders and her cousin, Jerod, are house renovators. When they donate a week’s worth of remodelling work to Jazzi’s sister Olivia, they’re expecting nothing more than some roofing work and a few beers at the end of each day. With Jazzi’s partner, Ansel helping out it promises to be a quick job before starting their next big project - until Leo, an elderly neighbour of Olivia’s, goes missing . . .
When the friendly senior’s dog leads Jazzi and the guys toward the wetlands beyond Olivia’s neighbourhood, they stumble across a decomposing corpse. With Jazzi’s pal Detective Gaff along to investigate, Jazzi finds her hands full of a whole new mystery. It will take some sophisticated sleuthing to track down the culprit of the deadly crime.
"The Body In The Wetlands" was so well-plotted by the author, Judi Lynn, and the story read at a comfortable pace. The book had a fantastic bunch of believable characters and I really liked the fulfilling ending,
Overall, this book had a little bit of everything - mystery, humour, romance, and great, great characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this very worthwhile series,
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
I like this series, this is book 2 in the Jazzi Zanders series. Jazzy, her cousin Jarrod, and her boyfriend run a home construction repair company that is doing well flipping homes. Set in River Bend, Indiana in the heart of a long hot summer they are donating their time to fix Jazzy's sister new home. When she walks the neighbor's dog she discovers two bodies in a ditch and her friend police detective Gaff enlists her help to again solve a murder. I love Jazzy's character, a hard working hands on carpenter that would never be content sitting in an office. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
It was a very pleasant read with lots of mystery, likeable characters, lovely animals and a bit of romance.
Jazzi with Jerod and Ansel is helping her sister Olivia and her husband restore the house they just bought. She makes friends with Leo, a neighbor of her sister and they talk about the disappearance of a boy with some mental problems. Then Leo also disappears. During the searches together with the detective they find a corpse. Shortly after they find another body of a woman. The case gets complicated.
This is the second book in this series although I haven't read book 1, it in no way disrupted my enjoyment of this book.
The story is very well written, with a fast pace and so many twists that make it difficult to guess until the end. The characters are funny and believable, I really loved the Sunday dinner at Jazzi's house with the whole family. The only flaw is a little unlikely the help that the detective asks Jazzi it is impossible for a policeman to ask a civilian to deal with the family but it is always fiction.
Recommended for those who love mystery
Jazzi Zanders is loving life - her boyfriend, Ansel, is now living with her and her fixer-upper business is going well. When fixing up the house her sister bought, she meets an old man, Leo, and his dog, Cocoa. Leo and Cocoa start appearing everyday to talk with Jazzi, then one day Cocoa shows up alone. Leo's wife is wheelchair-bound so Jazzi agrees to help walk Cocoa; while out and about Cocoa comes across two dead bodies of recently missing people. Detective Gaff asks Jazzi for her help and soon they are off trying to solve the case.
There was quite a bit of romance in this book, which is not typically in the cozy genre, but it didn't take anything away from the story. I am proud to say that I figured out who the killer was and the why, but I wasn't sure how it was going to be presented in the book. Sometimes just figuring the killer out isn't enough, I like to guess how it will be revealed and this one left me guessing.
4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed this book on Netgalley.
This was an interesting read from the interactions between Jazzi, Ansel, Olivia and Jerod as they flip the house Olivia and Jerod will live in, to the missing teen, the old man with his dog and all their family dynamics. There is a lot going on, and Detective Gaff needs Jazzi's personality and logical thinking. Not to mention the dog who drags her to evidence. The story is well-paced with enough tension and the occasional twists and turns. There are a couple of suspects, including the creepy pizza delivery guy, and the killer isn't obvious. Well-written, if you like a solid cozy mystery with a strong female lead, and a touch of romance, you'll enjoy this book.
This is the second in the series. Although there is some reference to the story in the first book, The Body in the Attic, this can easily be read as a stand alone. The third book, The Body in the Gravel, is also available. That one's going on my TBR list for sure.
FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book in the hopes that I would post an honest review. This has not affected the content of my review in any way.
This is the 2nd installment of the Jazzi Zanders mystery series. Jazzi, her cousin Jerrod and her boyfriend Ansel flip houses and her sister Olivia and her boyfriend Thane just bought a house and the trio is helping them out for a week to get things in order in their new house. Jazzi befriends Olivia and Thane's neighbor Leo and his dog Cocoa and learns a neighborhood young man Miles is missing. After the events of the last mystery Jazzi is so concerned for Miles parents and what they must be going thru so she begins to learn more about Miles. Then one day as she is working on the landscape Leo's dog Cocoa shows up with blood on his coat and without Leo. She goes across the street and checks on Leo's wife and she has fallen and Leo never came home. Cocoa wants to go out and Jazzi and Ansel take her for a walk and they find 2 bodies. Jazzi calls Detective Gaff and they learn that the bodies are those of Miles and that of an unidentified woman. It also appears that Leo's body was dragged someplace but he is nowhere to be found. I enjoy Jazzi's heart in trying to find out what has happened to Miles and Leo. Detective Gaff takes her to meet Miles parents and takes her to questioning of suspects. There is some side drama when Ansel's family is begging him to come home and help on the farm. His sister arrives and he agrees to go back for 2 weeks only. There are lots of possible suspects including Leo's nephew Seth. Enjoyed this mystery and looking forward to the next installment.
Jazzi Zanders had hoped that finding a body in the attic of their last renovation house was the last time that would happen, but of course, no such luck. When an elderly neighbor of her sister's disappeared, his dog led Jazzi to a shallow grave of two other people, one of whom had been missing for a few weeks. It was only a guess as to what could have happened to the older man. Once again, Jazzi was called on by Det. Gaff to go with him and ask questions. He does seem like a detective who is easy to please, but he's no slacker on his job and shows up promptly when Jazzi needs to talk to him. It was cute how he and his wife came to Jazzi's pond to go swimming.
I hadn't really guessed completely who the killer was, but by the near-showdown, I knew although I still didn't know why. Thanks to a smart move by Jazzi, nothing happened. I kind of like when the arrest is made off-screen so to speak. It's a little different. Everything was neatly wrapped up and the good detective once again thanked Jazzi, Ansel and Jerod. It seems odd that Gaff doesn't have an actual police partner, but hey it's fiction and it's different and a little unique. These characters are becoming like old friends to return to. I especially like the Sunday meals that Jazzi and her family shares at her house. I'm looking forward to the next book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
The Body in the Wetlands by Judi Lynn is the 2nd book in the Jazzi Zanders mystery series. I really enjoyed the first in series and this is a great next in series. This series is a lighthearted cozy mystery with a hint of romance and wonderful heartwarming family relationships. The characters are likable and the location is described perfectly. The dialogue is a perfect fit for the plot and the characters.
,Jazzi Zanders and her cousin Jerod buy houses together and flip them with the help of Ansel, who is Jazzi's devoted boyfriend. While they are putting a new roof on Jazzi's sister house, a neighbor is found to be missing, than the neighbors body is found . Soon a second body is found and Jazzi is determined to investigate. She soon finds clues and suspects abound and may be in over her head so she calls upon Ansel and her family to help her piece together clues.
This book is the definitive cozy mystery with a great sleuth, some humor and great characters. I look forward to the next book in the series, and I recommend this book very highly for all readers of cozy mysteries .
Thank you for the ARC. My opinion is my own.
Representing both mystery and romance, this book is aimed at fans of both the Hallmark and HGTV channels. Much of the action takes place while working on the roof of a house owned by Jazzi's sister Olivia and her boyfriend. Jazzi, her cousin and friends flip houses, doing the renovation work themselves.
From on the roof, much of the neighborhood can be seen. Other things are seen when walking a dog or sitting in the shadows on a bicycle. We learn early on that a special man is missing. Only when his body is discovered, do we learn that he is not the only victim.
Jazzi is very close with her family, getting together often and helping each other out as needed. Her live-in boyfriend, Ansel has a very different family. They sent him away when he decided not to be their go-to problem solver. Now they want him back, but only because they don't want to pay for the help they need.
To be honest, I did not like Ansel's character much. He comes across as shallow and self serving. He is pushing for a commitment from Jazzi based on insecurity. To me, that is unattractive, no matter how good looking the package. He has an adoring pug, George, who seems to fill the role Ansel is looking for.
This is a cozy, in the sense that Jazzi, a civilian, seems to be the one finding the clues and solving the mystery. It is more than that because of all the other elements that come into play.
I am enjoying this Jazzi Sanders series. It is a cozy mystery with a little romance and humor.
Jazzi and her cousin Jerrod flip houses. Her boyfriend also works with them. An elderly man comes up missing. What could have happened to him? Jazzi again does a little sleuthing.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I wanted to give book two in this series a chance, having moderately enjoyed book one but this book ended up suffering from the same problems as the first book. While it has a good story line, strong writing and good characters, I just can’t stand the relationship between the two main characters. Jazzi is a strong, independent character but she becomes weak and insecure with Ansel and its really bothered me. Both characters seem immature where their relationship is concerned and it detracted from the rest of the story. Overall it was an enjoyable mystery but it just wasn’t the right fit for me. If you like cozy mysteries that involve house flipping its worth checking out though!
