I was so happy to go back to the warden world. Seeing old faces. Plus holy cow that cover is GORGEOUS!
I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it's a great continuation to the warden world. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the characters, even though Zayne came off extremely moody for majority of it. Trinity is so incredibly likable and hilarious. I wish there was more Peanut in the book, they had a whole Tink and Ivy vibe going on and I loved it! Highly recommend this book, I absolutely devoured it!
First let me state that I love almost all of Jennifer’s books, including the series under her other pen name J. Lynn. With that stated you would most likely guess that I also loved the Dark Elements series and this book was no different. I love to see Zayne again and that his story is continuing on. I also enjoy that Jen did not put him front and forward in this book, but no worries you Zayne lovers will still see enough of him. Trinity is a very strong character in this book and her developed was wonderful. Seeing that this is a series the ending did not make me dislike the author but once more I am awaiting the next in the series. So, overall the book has strong characters, great writing, and the setting/plot are once again engaging and exciting.
This book Storm and Fury is book one in the Harbringer Series and a spin-off from the Dark Elements series.
I have not read the Dark Elements series, but didn’t feel lost on who was who. This is Zayne’s story, but it all starts with Trinity and it’s written from her POV.
Trinity is 18, living in a Warden compound with a secret. Only 4-5 people know this secret that she is a Trueborn. She’s being protected by her best friend Misha and trains daily with him for the fight against Demons.
Soon visitors come from a different compound to discuss threats and the heightened Demon activity. That’s when Zayne appears and it’s like Trinity has met him before...
This is a YA paranormal story, that has ghosts, Wardens (gargoyle shape shifters), Demons, Angles and Humans.
I really enjoyed this story and will recommend to others.
I received this ebook copy from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

‘I didn’t know what that felt like. To be loved like that or to love like that, in a passionate way that made you want to do ridiculous things like pledge your life to another person.’
Storm and Fury is the first book in The Harbinger series which is a spin-off of The Dark Elements series by Jennifer L Armentrout. We’ve not read The Dark Elements series and whilst we wish we had, because we absolutely loved Storm and Fury, we did not feel like we were missing anything integral to the storyline. If anything, it’s made us want to binge read everything that came before because we felt like we were immersed in a world of old school YA paranormal brilliance. Whilst quite slow to begin with, once the meaty aspects of the story commenced, it flew by and we were left wanting more!
“You want to see the stars?” Zayne asked…
”Then hold on tight, Trin. I’m going to get us as close as we can.”
Storm and Fury is a YA paranormal with eighteen-year-old heroine, Trinity Marrow who has lived a very sheltered life in a compound guarded by Wardens, hiding an ability which only she possesses and keeping a low profile because of who and what she is. A secret weapon waiting to be unleashed on the world joining the fight against demons, Trinity is a force to be reckoned with. Suffering from a progressive eyesight disorder she trains for a darker future, knowing what’s coming and realising that every single demon will hunt her upon discovery.
‘While the others accepted me, some were wary of a human in their midst. Some flat out ignored me. It was hard getting close to someone when they didn’t know the truth about me.’
Trinity definitely comes across young and perhaps at times naïve and immature, with no filter for her inner musings. However, she knows this and accepts it. Having suffered great tragedy and facing the burden of who she is, there’s no wonder this girl is a hot mess at times. She has an innate strength, a quirky wit, and a soft teenage heart. Having to keep your secret safe, whilst fighting the supernatural world around you does not come easy, especially when a strong attraction enters the mix in the shape of a stranger, who feels oddly familiar. Can this stranger be the key to her future? Trinity embarks on a hellish journey as a result of a breach in the place she calls home and feels safe. We loved that her hilarious friend and ghost, Peanut came along for the ride. The hilarity of Peanut was priceless.
‘I was trained to fight – to kill when necessary. I had the grace, a powerful weapon that could slay demon and Warden and everything in between. I’d been a weapon since birth, and very few things scared me, but I didn’t have the courage to say what I wanted. Which was to be wanted for anything other than what I was born for.’
Storm and Fury is everything we love about the YA paranormal genre. It had the supernatural wonder of gargoyles, demons, angels, and ghosts. Kick-arse action and a slow burn romance. We were compelled by the fantasy and intrigued by the mystery whilst we laughed at the brilliantly placed humorous banter. We would’ve loved to have experienced the background of Zayne, Roth, and Layla from The Dark Elements series to fully understand what went on before reading Storm and Fury, however, we got the gist of it.
“I think that when humans use their free will and jeopardize where they end up when they die, that’s on them. We do everything we can to keep them safe from demons who break the rules, and you know there are rules. There must be a balance of good and evil.”
If you’re a fan of the Mortal Instruments series you’ll love this one! Get ready for Gargoyle shifters, Witches, Demons in various guises, Fallen Angels and everything that exists in between….By the way…who knew Gargoyles were so H.O.T!!!!! We are counting the days for more….
“For what has begun a millennium ago is now at the door. The Harbinger has arrived.”
4.5 stars! Really enjoyed it and looking forward to more in this series!
If you follow me on GR, you'll know I read The Dark Elements series this year and if you've payed attention to that then you will know I love, love, LOVE Roth (as do many who have read the books.) This series is a spin off from the Dark Elements series. I didn't dislike Zayne from the earlier series but my love for Roth completely overshadowed anything I could have possibly felt about Zayne. Even though Roth makes an appearance in Storm & Fury I can say I think Zayne is finally going to get the story his character deserves as this series unfolds.
The book started a little slow and I felt like we didn't have a lot of information about our main character, Trinity. Previously, in the DE series, we knew exactly what Layla was from the beginning, but the author keeps her cards close to her chest on what's so special about Trinity until later in the book. However, I think it took me a little longer to form a connection to the characters because of this lack of info. All we really know is Trinity is a half human, living in a Warden community, training alongside them, and she can see and talk to ghosts and spirits.
When members of the DC clan arrive (Zayne and others) we learn there is something killing demons and wardens alike and no one thinks it's a demon...interesting. Zayne and Trinity immediately get off on the wrong foot with each other and I secretly love when that happens, lol, because it makes their attraction to each other something they fight. And from here the book really picks up and I was 100% invested in this story after that. I love the new aspects Jen has added to this world and the continuation we will see with these characters is one I'm super excited about.
On a more personal note, Trinity is a special character because she's similar to our beloved author in a significant way and I love and appreciate what the author has done with this character to show that.
My only complaint is I still have no clue what a Harbinger is? LOL! I guess I just have to keep reading to find out!

Everything about this book draws me in - it was one of my most anticipated reads of 2019 and I was so excited when I was approved to read this early. I started it as soon as I received it, over eager. Try as hard as might, no matter how much I tried for months to read this book, I just could not get into or get invested in the book. Finally after months out of Netgalley for fear of having to write this review, I just had to give it up and admit I couldn't get into this book and I couldn't finish it.
I want say I was just not the right reader for this book. The plot, the world, gave me too many Mortal Instruments and Dark Artifices vibes. Both books series that I did not enjoy and didn't want to read again. I think it was just too similar and I couldn't power through. Even though, I DNF'd this book at twenty percent, I still think it's worth checking out. Overall, it has so much potential. I just feel that it wasn't the right book for me.
If you’re like me and had a love/hate relationship with how the Dark Elements Series ended with Every Last Breath , then you too will be shouting: HOLY BABY GARGOYLE’S! FINALLY! ZAYNE’S STORY!
“I’ve never felt such a . . . raw reaction to someone. I . . . I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to you.”
Zayne and Trinity have an instant spark! Trinity is the perfect match for Zayne’s tough alpha exterior. She’s been trained to fight—to kill if necessary—and has a secret powerful weapon. Smart, witty and strong she’s not going to back down from a challenge no matter how high the stakes or how powerful the adversary.
Action, humor, mystery, and great characters both old and new. Seriously, I’m always going to want more Jasmine and Dez (they made me fall in love with this world) Danica (girl needs her own book!) Roth and Layla, and Bambi (I heart Bambi).
Gargoyles, Angels, Demons, and a mysterious new big bad, Storm and Fury (The Harbinger Series, book 1) is a great start to the new spin-off series and I cannot wait for more.
“You want to see the stars? . . . Then hold on tight, Trin. I’m going to get us as close as we can go.”
Although I am not a fan of insta-love and teen romance, this story/world was extremely well written!
Even though this was the start of a spin off series I have not read, I was truly invested in the characters and their lives. The conclusion was action packed and one of the most surprising I've read in the YA fantasy genre. Due to a few isolated erotic scenes, I recommend for YA readers, 14+.
*Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book hooked me from page 1 and never let go. I loved the strong female protagonist, the world-building, the action, and the pacing. There was enough explanation and background to understand, but the plot kept moving along so the reader never gets bored. The idea of demons and gargoyles and such is well-used in current YA lit, but Armentrout kept it fresh and interesting. I appreciated how the characters developed and I didn't see the ending coming. (It always makes me happy to read a book and not be able to guess the ending before I get there!)
I did not appreciate the fairly explicit scene that came about 3/4ths of the way through - that was out of left field. I'm not a prude, but I don't want a play by play either! This is actually one of the reasons why I read a lot of YA lit so I was disappointed that the author felt the need to be so explicit in her descriptions. Yes, the fact that something happened is important to the plot, but such a detailed description is not.
Other than that scene, which brought the book down to 4 stars from the 5 it would otherwise have earned, I highly recommend this book.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Netgalley!
It's been a while since I've read the series this book comes from--or, rather, spins-off from, I suppose. That did make things a little more difficult, as I was dropped into an unfamiliar world right from the get go. Eventually I oriented myself, and details from the original trilogy started to come back, but if you're planning on reading this one, I'd read the original trilogy, too.
Overall, though, it was a good story. It started out a little slow and it took some time to catch my interest, but once it did, I was blowing through the book. Hell, I don't even think I realized I was as close to finishing it as I was until I had to pause to go to work.
Though the writing can be a bit meh at times, it's a fun story, and if you like the world and the characters of the dark elements, you'll like this one, too.
4/ 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to think going into this book. I was extremely intrigued by the gargoyle shape shifter aspect, but sometimes paranormal books don't always hit the mark for me. This was also my first Jennifer L. Armentrout book. I'm very happy to say I really enjoyed myself. I love the plot, the angst, the characters and of course the paranormal aspects.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I for sure recommend it if you are into paranormal/ supernatural with romance. It reminded me of a combination of sweet Evil and the mortal instruments.
I was so happy when Netgalley approved me for this book. I absolutely love Jennifer Armentrout and have been waiting for this book because since the ending of Every Last Breath I wanted to know more. And I've always had a soft spot for Zayne.
It really wasn't hard jumping back into the world of wardens and demons. I think it was such an interesting plot the first time around that the premise really stayed with me over time. Jumping back in was like riding a bike. Familiar. There were just new characters.
First, we have Trinity. When we meet her we are instantly told that there is something special about her but not what. As the book grew on I only had more questions about who she was and why she was hidden from the world. Trinity was spunky and rebellious. She wanted to experience the world, not just live trapped under the thumb of Wardens. But she's also quick to not put herself in immediate danger because it's not just her life in jeopardy.
That brings us to Misha, her protector of sorts. I really liked him. You could feel their friendship and I believed that he cared for her so much. This was a new character that I was excited about. Out of all the new Wardens we met in this book, Misha stood out. He was probably only second to Peanut, the ghost. Yup, you read that right. Just a ghost Trinity can see. He was fabulous! Almost a Peeves type character but instead of just being there to torment Trinity, he was one of her closest friends. He lit up every scene he was in and always left me smiling.
And then there's Zayne. Poor tortured Zayne. If you haven't read the Dark Elements series, I strongly suggest you do before reading this book. I mean, you don't have to. Armentrout writes it in a way where you get the pertinent information to understand but everything just meant so much more when having his backstory to draw on. I loved seeing him come back into the fold and watchin him with Trinity was just sweet.
While the story started off a little slow for me, it definitely picked up around 30% and then smoothly hit its stride. It's hard to really say anything about the plot without giving it away but the story really built on itself while at the same time just dropping breadcrumbs so I would follow and try to solve on my own. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series because I feel that this was a great introduction to Zayne and Trinity and looks to be another solid series from Armentrout.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. I really wished I would have read The Dark Elements before this gem, but oh well... I really enjoyed this twist to the PNR world...Gargoyles, who knew! I still can't get my head around the huge twist and betrayal, surely I did not see that coming. Oh and I hate cliffhangers!
Storm and Fury by Jennifer Armentrout is the first book in her new The Harbinger series, which is a YA fantasy paranormal story. This is a spin off from Armentrout’s Dark Elements series, which I have not read, but this read very well without reading the previous series, but if I have time, I need to read that series. Storm and Fury revolves around Wardens (Gargoyles) and Demons
We meet our heroine, Trinity Marrow, who is 18 years old, and has lived most of her life among the Wardens, who are protectors of the human race against the demons. Trinity has hidden abilities that only a select few know. She is a trueborn (half human, half angel), and can see ghost and spirits, as well as being very powerful. Trinity has trained to fight since she was young with the Wardens, and is just as good or better than some of them. Misha, one of the Gargoyle wardens is her protector and is bonded to her. Trinity makes a wonderful heroine, as she is not only strong, smart, independent, confident, but she also has to deal with an eye disease that slowly degenerates.
Zayne, our hero, is part of another Warden group that come to visit to ask for help; since someone is killing Wardens and Demons. Zayne quickly becomes interested in Trinity, because she doesn’t fit with the other people at their complex; since he has no idea what Trinity is. There is an immediate attraction between Zayne and Trinity, which neither understand, especially when Zayne says there is a familiarity about her. In a short time, Zayne and his group will discover the truth about Trinity and after an attack at the compound, they will offer to protect and help her, since Misha was kidnapped and Trinity is determined to find him.
What follows is a wild exciting intense action-packed adventure, with a number of surprising twists. I loved Zayne and Trinity together, even if it was slow burn, since Zayne has a past love that went awry (part of previous series); but once they allowed themselves to succumb to their feelings, it was combustible. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Peanut (a ghost), Roth, Layla, Dez, etc.
Storm and Fury is a fantastic start to this new series revolving around Gargoyles, Demons, Angels and Ghosts, as well as the wonderful & sexy romance between Zayne and Trinity. Trinity continuing to grow into her powers was great, and I cannot wait to learn more in the future books. Jennifer L. Armentrout once again gives us a fun, heartwarming, romantic, as well as intense action filled story that keeps us on the edge of our seat. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Meh. I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't love this one. I have loved JLA previously, and I'm not sure if it's this book or just my tastes changing. I had a bunch of issues, starting with how long it was. It took me a long time to get through it, partly because I wasn't totally invested, partly because parts were boring, and partly cause there seemed to,be a lot of repetition. Next, I didn't like Trinity. I know she was sheltered, but she was so juvenile. Actually I didn't really love any of the characters or their relationships. For me Peanut was the only one with a distinct voice. Just not my favorite.
Storm and Fury was a book that had me hooked. It checks all the boxes: a heroine string and able to take care or herself, moments of humor to balance our frustration, obstacles to overcome handled without whining or waiting to be rescued, a relationship that develops not rushed, and an ending that leaves you excited for what is to come. I would recommend this book to others. I also enjoyed seeing characters pop up from previous books although this book can be read as a stand-alone.
DNF at 16%.
Storm and Fury started out promising. Then, it felt like there was a lot of info dumping. After that it just felt like the characters were one dimensional, flat, boring, and juvenile.
I understand Trinity does not get out much, but she sounds like she is a tween instead of eighteen. There was just a lot of cringe worthy quotes. The book could have gotten better, but with how many cringe worthy lines, flatness, and one dimensional characters that sound very similar, I could not do it anymore.
I will admit, I wanted to stick a little longer for Peanut, who is hilarious, but like I said majority of the characters are just one dimensional and have similar voices.
YA fantasy is one of my favorite genres, there is just so much magic, and mystery mixed with the sweet YA romance. The Dark Elements series was one of my favorites, and while I was rooting for Roth I always wanted to see Zayne get his happily ever after. Storm and Fury didn't draw me in as quickly as White Hot Kiss, I had to settle into it, but once it got going I couldn't put it down.
Trinity is a bit immature, and self centered, but can you blame her? She's basically lived a life of seclusion, and secrecy. She hasn't had a chance to live. That doesn't stop her from being quirky, funny, and full of talent. I love that even though she has this amazing gift, she still has the vulnerabilities of being human. It makes her more relatable. I see a lot of the author in this character which makes her that much better.
Zayne was not my favorite in the last series, I have a thing for the bad boys. However after everything he's been through Zayne now falls into that category. He is emotionally shut off, extremely aloof, and broody. Underneath all that he still has a heart of gold, and is a warrior through, and through.
This was a great start to a series I'm sure is going to captivate, and leave me on the edge of my seat. There have already been hidden agendas, twist, turns, and so much more. I can't wait to see what the rest of this series will bring us.
Just when you think Jennifer L. Armstrong has abandoned your favorite world...she puts out Storm and Fury!!! I shrieked. I danced. I may even have cried (no pics, no proof). I needed more. I always will. But this time JLA provided.
I will try not to fan girl like a crazy person but Layla and Roth are my favorite JLA couple. I love the Wardens, Demons, and the Alphas. The crazy world where they exist and battle it out is intense and everything I missed. Learning that this was going to be Zayne's story, or the continuation of it, had me giddy and giggling. It was impossible to not root for Zayne from The Dark Elements series. Just because I'm Team Roth doesn't mean I don't appreciate a girl's best friend in all his stony glory!
Seeing Zayne and experiencing Storm and Fury was a kick in the pants. I'm lost over waiting for the next in the series. And it's coming! For those that know and love him, Roth is here for a "hey!" Don't get too excited. ( Ok, totally do! I'm still squealing!)
Storm and Fury may include some old friends but this story is entirely Trinity's. I have a feeling some incredible surprises are in-store for us. One Warden at a time! Also be careful what you wish for...
