Opening with a sexual assault is a sure-fire way to lose me as a reader, but since it was a scene demonstrating how capable Trinity is of speaking up for herself and kicking butt, I decided to forgive it. Unfortunately after that there was a lot of hinting at backstory without actually stating who her father was, what genetic problems she has, etc, which instead of exciting my curiosity just annoyed me. And finally we get to Trinity acting like an idiot resulting in an incredibly boring fight scene. DNF'd somewhere in chapter 2.
I'm going to give this DNF thing a try and I'll be starting with this book. When it takes me a week to only get to 41% of a book, then after a three day trip I come back and don't want anything to do with it? Yeah, not working out for me. Especially when I have so many other books I'd rather be reading.
I am going to be joining the minority here. This book is too long and too boring to keep my attention. Which is unfortunate because I was actually looking forward to it. I didn't realize until right before I went to start it that it was actually a spin off, but from the almost half I read of this, that series didn't necessarily have to be read first. Really, I think it would have just helped some side things make more sense and give you a better idea of some of the characters and what's been going on.
My problem with this book is the main character. I absolutely hated Trinity. She is 18 but acts like a 12 year old brat. She is so incredibly selfish and stupid, never caring how her actions will impact others. She knows for a fact that another's life literally depends on hers, yet even that doesn't prevent her from doing whatever the hell she wants and putting herself in danger. She has this really bad habit of spying on people and listening to other's private conversations. She's going blind, but really that only impacts her life when it's convenient for the story. She can still fight in the dark, run along roofs, and jump thru windows. Oh, and it's still good enough to let us know how attractive every goddamn boy around her is. She's one hell of a special snowflake, and even says that to someone.
I did love Misha. He's Trinity's gargoyle protector, and he takes his duty seriously. But because Trinity is an immature idiot, he often has a hard time of it. I liked Zayne. I think he was one of the main characters from the parent series, and this time it's his turn to get the girl. Unfortunately it's looking like that's going to be Trinity. He was fun and witty, and I think I would have liked him even more if he wasn't attracted to a half-wit. Trinity can see ghosts and spirits (which are apparently different things) and one of them likes to hang around her. She calls him Peanut, and he's actually kind of funny for a dead guy.
I always manage to drag myself thru horrible books because I keep hoping they'll get better. Do I hope that'll be the case with this one? Sure. Will I find out? Nope. I just can't make myself want to here.
Also, can someone tell me exactly what a "smokey smile" looks like? Because I don't think I've heard a smile described that way before.
I absolutely adored Armentrout's Dark Elements trilogy and when I saw that she was releasing a new book set in the same world of the Wardens, I knew it was something I had to try.
I'm so excited that Armentrout decided to resurrect this series. It really is so much fun and truly completely unique.
Not only do we get a continuation of the series but this time with a new unique character but, we get to see many old favorites as well.
It couldn't have been any more fun if it tried.
I loved every second of this book. From the slow burn romance to the action and mystery to the fun banter and of course, they very real medical condition that Armentrout herself has. It was so informative and interesting and just...yeah. Such a great read and one I can not wait for all fans to read and of course, for the next book to come out.
I finished this book with a strong desire to keep on reading this story, wich is a very good thing. I loved the characters, and even tought I was a bit skeptical at first of this fantasy novel, it completly amazed me. I had such a good time reading this book.
I dnf this book pretty quick after the first couple pages. I didn't like that the first guy we meet doesn't know a single thing about concent.
This is the first book I have read of the author's and what a treat. I loved the story. Trinity and Zayne are a great couple. Learning abut the real disease the author is living with was very interesting and I thank her for the courage to share. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
NO SPOILERS!
Storm and Fury was a fun, adventurous, and entertaining start to the all-new Harbinger series, a spin-off to the Dark Elements series from Jennifer L. Armentrout. I loved the storyline and characters, and Armentrout’s signature writing style and sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed being back in the world of Wardens, demons, and other supernatural beings, and loved getting to see a few familiar characters again.
The storyline was interesting and entertaining. It had been a while since I had been immersed in the world of Wardens and other supernatural beings, and it was great to come back. The plot was different than I first expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a few parts that I didn’t like as much, but otherwise it was entertaining from beginning to end. The author threw in a plot twist towards the end that I wasn’t expecting, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the Harbinger series.
The characters were amazing. Jennifer L. Armentrout always delivers sassy, sarcastic, bada** heroines and dominant, protective alpha heroes. Zayne and Trinity were the perfect combination of all those traits and more, and I loved them so much. I loved Zayne and Trinity’s personalities and connection together, and how most of their relationship progressed throughout. I would’ve loved a little more romance to be incorporated, but I know paranormal stories are usually based around the paranormal aspect, not the romance. I wished the story had been told from both Zayne and Trinity’s point of view instead of just Trinity’s, but I still loved reading it from her perspective. I also loved the banter and interactions between Zayne and Trinity, and look forward to seeing how their relationship progresses throughout the series.
Storm and Fury was a fun and entertaining intro to the Harbinger series, and I would definitely recommend it! Jennifer L. Armentrout created an engaging plot with humor, sarcasm, mystery, and suspense, and lovable characters you couldn’t help but root for. I loved the first book in the Harbinger series, and can’t wait to continue Zayne and Trinity’s story in the next installment!

Trinity Marrow is an 18 yr old girl who can see and talk to ghosts and spirits. She also has a condition that is causing her to lose her eyesight. Despite this disability she can throw daggers with accuracy that surpasses her trainer and protector a Warden named Misha. She is also only half human and the secret of what she is keeps her under heavy guard by Wardens. They also fight demons!
Trinity's world flips on itself when and outside clan comes to visit. She comes face to face with a Warden names Zayne who she feels she has met before. Turns out nothing is as it seems and when Misha is taken Trinity finds herself on a mission to save him but finds herself in a much bigger conflict. The fate on the world ends up falling on her shoulders.
This book is definitely a slow-burn. It starts to pick up halfway through and really steam rolls your emotions by the end. The second book in the series is now on my most anticipated future reads list! I also did not know going into this that the story is a spin-off of another series called The Dark Elements. I do not believe you need to read that series first. I felt no gaps in knowledge. I enjoyed this so much though that I will be putting The Dark Elements on my TBR.
Thank you to Netgalley and Inkyard Press for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
All. The. Feels. This book was at times laugh out loud funny, where I’d have to nudge my husband to read him a few lines. It also made me feel such heartbreak. This book has action, romance, and humor sprinkled with some angels, demons, gargoyle, ghosts, spirits, and witches. I can’t wait for the next one.
I had no idea this was a spin off from another trilogy, but it just got added to the top of my TBR list. I can’t wait for another book to get more of this world so hopefully the other trilogy placates me until then.
I am a huge fan of this author so when I saw a new book I knew I had to read it. The premise was exciting and different than anything I have read lately. A girl who can't really see in the midst of super warriors with wings.
The story that develops is both interesting and beautiful.
My only problem is the fact that so much of the beginning of the story focuses on her lack of sight and how bad it is. It was a bit overwhelming and difficult to concentrate on the rest of the story.
I was super excited to read this book because the Dark Elements is one of my favorite series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, so knowing that there was going to be a spin-off series in that world made me had such high expectations, and overall, though I didn't love it as much as the original series, I still think it was a fantastic first installment, and I for sure will be continuing reading the rest of the books.
Like all of her other books, this one was also pretty addictive. I found that I couldn't put it down until I was finished with it, and I kept being super invested with the characters and the plot, and there were some twists and turns that I wasn't expecting.
I have to admit that back when I first read the Dark Elements, Zayne wasn't my favorite character, but in Storm and Fury I feel he was a more complex and interesting character that made me root more for him and wanting to know what was going to happen. I think he was a mysterious one, and his interactions with Trinity were pretty fun to read.
Something that I adored seeing was some cameos of old characters from the original series. That made me want to start re-reading the books again, and made my heart so warm and fluffy.
Overall, I'll definitely be continuing with the rest of the series, because after than ending I need to know what's going to happen next. Though there were some elements about the story that could potentially be better, I think that it was such a entertaining story to follow and so easy to get to that I can't really complain.
Storm and Fury is the first book in Jennifer L. Armentrout's new young adult fantasy series The Harbinger. While this is a spin off from her previous The Dark Elements series, it does not have to be read in order to enjoy this. It will spoil the ending of that series for you if you did plan on reading it at some point because it includes the main characters from it.
I'm going to be honest I couldn't help myself from comparing Storm and Fury to the other series that I loved so much and I know I shouldn't have. I felt there were parts of the book, especially in the beginning, that could have been left out. Around the halfway point I felt that the story line really started to get interesting and I'm not going to lie that had a lot to do with the appearance of my favorite drop dead gorgeous demon. Once I really got into it though I couldn't put it down and it definitely ended on a high note that left you looking for more.
Let's talk about the characters, our unique and special Trinity who is totally bad a**. She is spunky and strongly independent as most of Armentrout's heroines are, and she's even more inspiring because she has a disease that has her almost blind but that doesn't hold her back. Then there's Zayne, our mysterious Warden (if you haven't read the Dark Elements' series where he is a main character) who is hurting over events from his past that he just can't seem to move past. He is a perfect gentlemen and a bit vanilla in my opinion, he was just lacking a spark. I didn't feel the attraction/ connection between him and Trinity until more than halfway through the book.
Storm and Fury had all the style, snark and feelings I look for in a Jennifer L Armentrout fantasy. You might think my review is a bit harsh, but I am just struggling with what I loved about the book without giving out spoilers. If you loved any of her other series than you will hands down enjoy this one and I'm looking forward to whatever plot twists she is bound to throw into this series in future books.
I was very confused at the beginning because I didn’t understand what was going on. The main character, Trinity, kept referencing that the guy she liked was a Warden and that they were different than humans. I thought that it was a select family that tries to keep their distance from other normal beings, then she made a reference to herself not being completely human. I thought that Clay was a paranormal being like a werewolf because his body temperature was described as being really hot, but it doesn’t seem like that was the case. I found it hard to keep up with the story itself only because there were too many questions going through my mind to fully enjoy the story.
A great supernatural adventure and I can’t wait to see where the story goes. Trinity’s world is nothing near what she thinks. It’s full of deceit and manipulation.
A real page turner for every paranormal lover and the world building imagery is phenomenal. Strength abounds and friendships form while the world she thought she knew turns to chaos.
So, so great!

As usual Jennifer L. Armentrout has done it again !
Another of those fast paces, easy to read/get into book that is both original and doesn't take the amount of concentration an Adult Fantasy or other Fantasy/sci-fi books would take.
It was light and fluffy, while being intense and full of twists and turns. I loved how she used gargoyles, witches, demons and Ghosts and also the concept of the main character and her guardian/bonded who had to keep her hidden because of her powers and protect her, the world and the magical aspects were so interesting !
Zayne was an instant great moment, the second he appeared I knew I would enjoy his character,
Trinity was a lovely character and I can't wait to read the sequel of this book...
It is best to go into this not knowing much about it !
So all that I will say : PICK THIS UP ASAP !!!
also, there's a sidekick named Peanut sooo yeah awesomeness ahead and fun times (if you pick this up) !
PS: ALso representation Trinity is not only F*cking badass but also has great disability representation !!!

My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Are they ever authors that you just want to binge? I swear, every single time I read a JLA book, I want to go back and re-read everything she's ever written. Storm and Fury was absolutely no exception. A few weeks ago when I learned that I would be receiving a copy of this book, I picked up the original trilogy this spins off from and DEVOURED it in three days. Then, I had to wait another week for this beauty to hit my doorstep and I thought I was going to die of deprivation. Death by book deprivation? Is that a thing? If it is, I'm sure GRRM has killed plenty of his readers by now.
First of all, this is a spin off series, BUT you don't have to have read the original trilogy to enjoy Storm and Fury. That being said, I enjoyed this book much more because the cameos were more enjoyable. I had a good sense of the world and really was able to delve right back into it. Fortunately for you folks reading this review, you have a whole month before this bad-boy comes out! Plenty of time to pick up White Hot Kiss and fall in love with Roth, Layla and Zayne.
Speaking of Zayne....ZAYNE!! I was so happy to see that he was such a prominent character in this new series. I adored his character in the original trilogy and can't wait to see where JLA goes with him in this series.
Storm and Fury was absolutely unputdownable. It did have a slower start as JLA introduced me to the characters and set the scene a bit, but that's typical for the first book in a new series. The second half of the book took off like a freaking rocket though. Things were constantly in motion, new plots and subplots were revealed, and JLA had me at the edge of my seat.
I DEFINITELY recommend this one to all of my YA reader friends out there. You won't be disappointed.
People who love Cassandra Clare's novels will probably enjoy this book. I'm just looking for something different.
I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but Storm and Fury just wasn't for me. I was super excited for this book. The summary made it sound so awesome. However, I got 20% in and the entire time I was getting The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices vibe: warriors that exist in secret communities that fight lower level and higher level demons, warriors that are bonded in pairs and cannot fall in love otherwise there are serious consequences, angels that the warriors worship... I did not like The Mortal Instruments, but I thought The Dark Artifices was actually good. Despite being iffy or flat out not liking some of the books that take place in the Shadowhunter universe, I always appreciated the world that was created as it was very unique and very well thought-out. Storm and Fury just seemed like a similar but less intriguing world.
I kept thinking, "Oh, this sounds familiar...maybe it's just a few similarities." Then, every 5% I got through just brought up another very familiar characteristic. There's nothing wrong with different novels being inspired by worlds that have been created and share super similar characteristics. It's just not a world I am that into.
Furthermore, the dialogue and characters personalities were bland. They didn't make me feel anything or care what they were thinking or going to do next. The action scenes were pretty bland too. It was hard to visualize and left too much to the imagination.
Ultimately, I think giving this book a try is worth it. Which is saying something, considering it wasn't for me. The big picture of it has so much potential. I just feel that it didn't actually deliver anything in time to keep me from completely losing interest.

This is one of my most anticipated new series. As many of you know this series is a spin off to The Dark Elements, which is one of my all time favorites. While Roth and Layla do appearances as supporting characters, this focuses on characters and takes place 6-7 months after that series ends. If you've read that series, several characters from that series are present, Bambi does make a cameo which made me very happy. If you haven't read the original series, I recommend it because it is my favorite, but I don't think it is 100% necessary. Jen does a great job setting up the story for this new series without you needing to have read the previous books. She tells you what you need to know to set up the plot and gives you the backstory on anything mentioned that happened in the past.
This story follows Trinity, a half human half something else who has been raised and trained with the Wardens for most of her life. Wardens gargoyles shape shifters who look human in one state and are badass demon fighting warriors in their other form. Trinity has some very special abilities that make her enticing to demons and anything else supernatural, so she has been hiding amongst the Wardens. When strange things start happening in Washington DC a contingent from that clan come to visit and she immediately develops a connection with Zayne. Zayne has a ton of emotional baggage, but he is drawn to Trinity and her stubborn, snarky, impulsive ways. When Trinity is attacked at her own compound and her best friend is kidnapped, Zayne learns her true identity. In an effort to find out what is killing Wardens and demons and find her friend, Zayne and Trinity decide to work together. What Trinity learns during her time in Washington changes everything she was raised with.
I really loved this! I loved that Jen wrote her eye disease retinitis pigmentosa into one of her characters. I've been a fan of Jen's for a very long time and she talks openly about it on her social media, so I knew Trinity was going to have this disease. I love that she didn't let her failing eyesight stop her from being fearless. The part where she talks to Zayne about seeing the stars is beautiful. I'm really happy to see Zayne in this vulnerable stage, where he's trying to deal with his baggage. I also was so happy to get back to Roth and Zayne snarking at each other. One of my favorite things about Jen's books is the snark she writes between her characters, and no one does snark better than Roth. I like where the characters ended development-wise. They still have more development to do, but I like where they started and ended in this book. Knowing that the development will happen over the course of the series, I know they will get where they need to go y the end of it. I have lots of questions about this Harbinger, but I'm sure they will be answered with time. This follows alot of common themes in paranormal romance and books with a chosen one. It is similar in tone and cadence to Jen's other books, which I like.
At the end of the day fans of JLA and the previous series are sure to love this. It is similar to the first series, but different enough to pull you in and keep you interested. Paranormal romance fans will enjoy this as it has all the right elements of action, emotion, and interesting creatures.
I can't wait for book 2!
I didn't realize how much I missed the world of the Dark Elements until I started reading Storm & Fury. You do not need to read the Dark Elements trilogy to appreciate the story in this novel, but I would highly recommend doing so as it will help you better understand the dynamics between characters. Armentrout does an excellent job of giving enough back story for the uninitiated. Storm & Fury is the start of a new series, The Harbinger.
Trinity Marrow is a human (sort of - and she can also see ghosts and spirits - there is a difference and it will be explained) who is living in an isolated Warden compound in West Virginia with her Warden Protector, Misha. For the uninitiated, Wardens are gargoyle-like shifters who protect humanity from demons. She has been trained alongside the Wardens for the past ten years preparing herself for when she is summoned (this will be revealed.) After suspicious demon activity around the compound, delegates from the DC visit, asking for help as their clan had recently been decimated in battle. There is also a mysterious enemy who is killing both demons and wardens indiscriminately. Zayne, the son of the previous clan leader is part of this delegation and he and Trinity have an instant attraction. After a serious attack on the compound, which leads the kidnapping of Misha. The demon suspected of leading the attack has been spotted in DC, so Trinity travels back with the DC clan to search for Misha and help with the mysterious new enemy. Zayne has separated himself from his clan after the death of his father, Abbott. As Zayne and Trinity investigate together to find Misha and discover clues as to who or what is killing Wardens and demons, they grow closer, yet Zayne joes hold himself apart. All the action and clues will accumulate to a shocking betrayal and more questions than answers.
I could not put this down. Trinity is a kick ass female, who does not let her retinitis pigmentosa (which the author herself has been diagnosed) stand in the way of defending those she loves and care about. We are introduced to a new set of characters from the West Virginia clan, including the leader, Thierry and his husband Matthew, and Trinity's friend Jada and boyfriend, Ty (and we cannot forget Peanut, a ghost who doesn't want to move on.) We also get to visit some old friends from the Dark Elements trilogy including Roth, Layla, Cayman and the DC clan. The only problem I have with this book is that I will have to wait a really long time for book 2. With the Dark Elements, I was able to binge read the entire trilogy over a long weekend. If you were a fan of the Dark Elements trilogy, I would recommend this, and to those who like books with a lot of action, witty banter and humor.
Beautiful Gargoyles who defend humanity from demons and a sassy female MC with a powerful and dangerous secret…. What could go wrong??
While this is a spin off series to Armentrout’s The Dark Elements series, I didn’t feel like I was missing any world or character building by not reading them first. All of Armentrout’s characters were bold and witty which made reading through their conversations all the more entertaining, and also lends to impulsive and dangerous decisions. I also enjoyed the way she addressed characters working through struggles with their beliefs, emotions, and perceived disabilities.
It actually took me a few tries to get sucked into this book, but once the action picked up I could not put it down!! I could not get enough of the pull between Trinity and Zanye (swoon). The author did a great job of giving you enough information to think you had it all figured out but then taking you for another loop. Needless to say I cannot wait for the second installment of The Harbinger series, and would have devoured it right away if possible.
I would recommend this book to anyone 17+ (things get a little steamy at points) who enjoys reading fast paced paranormal mystery.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for the opportunity to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
