This was my first book by Jennifer L. Armentrout and definitely not the last one. What a great story, with a lot of secrets, Demons, Angels, Ghosts, Witches, Gargoyles and romance. Trinity is very likable character and I want to read more about her. Storm and Fury is the first book in the spinoff series of The Dark Elements. Overall, reading was easy and pleasurable.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Teen and Inkyard Press for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book and Jennifer L Armentrout always knows how to worm her way into my heart with book boyfriends and swoon worthy moments while keeping me on my toes

I enjoyed the original trilogy so much, I was excited to dive back into his world. As much as I loved Roth, I always felt that Zayne got a really raw deal. I was excited to see where this new story would take him.
In this book, we see a different group of guardians who live in a regional office type setting. They too are harboring a big secret in heir midst. Just like Layla, Trinity is something other. She is a secret they all protect but I was able to figure out what she was fairly quickly. Zayne’s clan comes to her clan to ask for help but they find something else entirely.
Zayne feels a pull toward Trinity from the start but he is still reeling from losing Layla and his dad. He doesn’t like this awareness and finds Trinity intriguingly annoying.
Trinity has lots of secrets. She’s lost her mother and is not supposed to interact with anyone outside her clan. Zayne frustrates her and intrigues her all at the same time.
When the demons start showing up and her protector is taken, she leaves her home to rescue him.
I loved the new characters. Trinity is no Layla rip-off. She is her own person, stubborn and strong. I loved her personality.
This was an excellent beginning to a spin off in this world. And Roth and Layla showed up too. The twist was great but felt familiar.
I can’t wait to read the next books in the series.
I truly enjoyed this book. I read the previous series a long while back and only remember vague bits and pieces, but may go back and read it again. The world building was just the right amount without info dumping, and the character's maturity level matched their age. Trinity appears immature in the story (but many youth of that age are not going to act like they are mature adults) but there is obvious growth along the way. The story was not the complete cookie cutter tale that some other people are producing, and it kept me entertained and wanting to read, "Just one more chapter..." A full, more thorough review will be posted on my blog 5/5/2019

I wanted to try something new. I tend to shy away from stories where the summary is heavily focused on the romance. It tends to lead to books I don’t often enjoy.
But I was intrigued by a main character who was losing her sight and was a human among gargoyle protectors. It gave me some serious 90s TV vibes. So I tried it out.
And it wasn’t for me.
I couldn’t get into the writing style at all. It felt like there was so much in the story that wasn’t being told–so I did some research, and it turns out Storm and Fury is a spin-off from one of the author’s other series. It obviously expected you to have read the other series as a lot of details seemed to be missing for a first time reader.
Then there was Trinity. I was super into a mostly-blind MC. But the only times we were ever really made aware of the fact that Trin was losing her eyesight is the occasional comments of “my eyesight was shit”.
I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love this book. I was not one of them. In the end, it just made me think of the shitty teen romance fantasies I read as a teen–which isn’t a good thing.
Storm and Fury is a spinoff of the Lux series. As a disclaimer, I have not (yet!) read the Lux series, so my review is based entirely on this book.
The world: It’s like ours, but gargoyles (you know, the stone statues!) came off their ledges several years ago and are now protecting humanity from demons (oh, yeah, they also walk the earth). The shape-shifting gargoyles—called Wardens—live in protected communities.
The characters: Trinity is half-human and half something-else who has grown up behind the protected walls of a Warden community. Though she’s slowly going blind, Trinity has the strength and fighting ability far beyond what most of the Wardens think her capable of—and that is part of Trinity’s secret. Misha is a Warden who is bonded to Trinity and serves as her protector. Peanut is a ghost that serves as a side-kick of sorts to Trinity (oh, yeah, she can see ghosts as well!). Zayne is a Warden from the DC area, who has arrived with news about an increasing danger to humans and Wardens.
The storyline: Trinity is an eighteen-year old living in a protected West Virginia community in which very few people actually know why they’re protecting her—or what she really is. She is fierce and a true badass, but she is also slowly going blind. Also, she’s a teenaged girl who dreams of leaving her protected life and experiencing the world. Two Wardens arrive from the DC area, one of which is Zayne, and Trinity eavesdrops on a conversation they have with the lead Warden in Trinity’s community. Something has been killing demons and Wardens. Trinity and Zayne have an immediate connection, as if pulled together by fate. After an attack, when a Warden is taken, Trinity joins Zayne when he returns to DC, where she actually meets demons, as well as witches, and develops a new, and surprising view of the world while trying to discover who—or what—is threatening the world.
I found the opening of Storm and Fury to be a bit slow. The build up is slow, but once the action begins, it really does move along quite quickly and I was truly caught up in the action. Trinity is smart, sassy/snarky and a real badass. I wasn’t sure about Zayne at first, he seemed like he might be a creep trying to be charming, but I warmed to him pretty quickly. Storm and Fury ends with a hell of a cliffhanger, which leaves me anxious for book 2.
*I received a copy of Storm and Fury from NetGalley and Inkyard Press/Harlequin Teen in exchange for an honest review
I really wanted to love this book. I mean angels, demons, gargoyles and other creatures....sounds amazing. I just never attached to the characters and the build-up was too slow. I've enjoyed Armentrout's books in the past but this just isn't one of them.
Storm and Fury is a very long book about a very lot of things, most of which throw back to shows like Gargoyles and Supernatural. The gargoyles in this book seem to take the place of people like the Winchesters, who hunt demons other things that go bump in the night in order to protect humanity. Many other character similarities occur, but giving details would be spoiling.
As the synopsis suggests, Trinity possesses a secret that could endanger her and those around her. The suspense surrounding what exactly this secret can be what propels a reader through about 50% of this book. After that, the plot switches to another mystery and keeps the readers attention from there.
Nothing about this book, to me, was original. Everything was gleaned from something else that I have read or seen before. While it was mildly enjoyable, I wish I could read something that was unique. These days, a female MC that can doesn’t need anyone because she is stronger than everyone is not original. It’s fantasy, though, so it’s plausible.
I will say the best quality of this book strictly belongs to the character interaction. With the exception of the overabundance of swearing and obscenities, the character banter was entertaining. In fact, had it not been as entertaining as it was, the book would have garnered only one star. I give it 2.5, which I’ll round up to 3. I kind of recommend it, but I know certain people will find it burdensome.
My thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, for which I give my own opinion.
I love Jennifer armentrout! I love her, love her! I just couldn’t get into this book as hard as I tried. I love the Gargoyle world she has created. I just liked these characters a little less than the ones in white hot kiss, stone cold touch. I definitely recommend reading those before this one since it’s a spin off.
The writing style was quite plain for such a seasoned writer, and not only had I expected much better, but she chose to take risks with sentences such as above. The first half of this book struggled with no direction and felt like a chore. I could not tell what the point was or where it was going. There were pacing issues and the story didn't pick up until the second half. If the book started with the intensity the second half had, I would have liked it much more. If I had read this of my own accord and not received a copy through Netgalley, I may have abandoned it after the first few chapters.
Although I did like the different characters abilities, the whole demon/angel premise has been done so many times, it's "old hat" with hings of The Mortal Instruments. The long winded banter between characters was extremely annoying. I was not expecting such a steamy almost-sex scene in YA nor did I see it coming all after after beginning to read the book. The ghost seeing skill could have been developed a lot more and had the ability to be so much fun. It was almost unnecessary to the story line.
I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. I'm 50% feeling like it was a cop out. I hate when an author has an amazing idea for a book but then has no clue how to wrap it up. Not sure if that was done here, or if the ending was intended from the get-go. It left me unfulfilled, feeling like it was an unnatural turn for the story.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.
*IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE DARK ELEMENTS SERIES... this review will spoil it so continue at your own risk.... also, if you haven’t read them you’re missing out!*
This book was was everything I absolutely needed and everything I was not expecting!!! She did it again!! Jennifer L Armentrout is the Queen (MY QUEEN) of writing stories that engaged me constantly and make me feel every emotion with the characters. This book has a wonderful pace; introducing new characters to a world we know and giving us this new adventure to start. I never felt bored or worried that I wasn’t going to love this story/series. I instantly LOVED Trinity and was drawn to her; her strength, kindness, humility and humor made me isbtsbtly feel like she was relatable and I was invested in her immediately. I felt every emotion with her and found myself crying happy and sad tears. So many points in this book just made me FEEL ALL THE FEELS.
Now, let me say that The Dark Elements series is one of my ALL TIME favorite series and I love Roth.... like LOVE ROTH and did not expect to fall for this first book as much as I did. On my last re read of The Dark Elements I felt more for Zayne than I ever have in the past. This book INSTANTLY made me swoon for Zayne! We get to see so much more of him obviously and we get to see this side of him never seen in The Dark Elements. He’s grown and changed and I felt like he was suddenly THIS MAN. He felt like this whole other person to me and I absolutely FELL IN LOVE. HOW DID I NOT LOVE HIM BEFORE??? He’s this perfectly flawed wonderful person. Strong, smart, funny, a little jaded, protective, sweet and just amazing. Seeing him through Trinity’s eyes was so amazing and great. Here’s one of my favorite quotes that shows Zayne in her eyes: “A slow, heart-wrenching smile pulled at his lips. A real one, and it was the kind of smile that could break hearts and rebuild them.”
If you loved The Dark Elements, you’re gonna just absolutely LOVE this! We get glimpses of old characters we love and it’s funny and amazing but it’s this extra bonus I didn’t need! (I’ll be honest, I was like LAYLA GO AWAY hahaha)!! From the moment you start this book, you’ll
be drawn in and dying for more!!!
Trinity is the only one of her kind - half human and half angel, living among gargoyle shape-shifter protectors. When her protector, Misha, is kidnapped, Trinity will do anything to get him back. She leaves her clan to go with Zanye, an incredibly handsome protector, to try to find him. Together, they fight demons and all sorts of other beings to try to get to Misha, only to find out that they have been set up. Through all of this, Trin develops feelings for Zayne, which he is reluctant to return. I liked the love and action and even the tragedy. Good story, thoroughly enjoyable, and a real page turner.
The Dark Elements series left us with a big "And what about Zayne??" question.
Thankfully, Jennifer L.Armentrout didn't leave us empty handed and gave us another little masterpiece.
Storm and Fury, first chapter ofThe Harbinger series, is written by the point of view of Trinity, a human who has been living with Wardens for all her life.
Even though it's obvious that she's going to be Zayne's happily-ever-after, we have to remember that Zayne swore eternal love to Layla just a bunch of months prior, so I'm kind of curious about how the Armentrout will save the situation, and the romance, for us.
But I trust her implicitly and know that this is going to be another great series.
Can't wait for what is coming next!
Jennifer armentrout is a auto buy author for me. Her books never disappoint there always addictive and the men are always swoon worthy
Okay, before we begin, it’s important to note that STORM AND FURY is a spin-off of The Dark Elements and that spin-offs are always hit or miss for me. (This was a hit). You don’t have to read The Dark Elements (can we just call it TDE?) before reading this, but I recommend that you do as it’d give you some more back story into the world and also Zayne.
Speaking of Zayne, he’s a tad weird in STORM AND FURY. Not WEIRD, weird, but just… different. Sometimes it was hard for me to believe that this is the same guy from TDE - he’s changed THAT much. Granted, after everything he went through, it’s not unwarranted, just surprising. I kinda hate that a lot of his development happens off the page and wasn’t fully covered by the story.
Trinity, our female lead, on the other hand, goes through a LOT of development throughout the story. I really enjoyed seeing her grow, although she’s still a bit too impulsive for me to really like her. Just a bit! One of things STORM AND FURY does so well is comment on real life topics despite being a fantasy novel. It was a joy to read about retinitis pigmentosa, a real life eye condition that Jennifer L. Armentrout, herself, has. Despite her eye disease, Trinity is still a major badass.
I also loved Zayne and Trinity’s relationship and watching it progress. Their bickering was so fun to read!
Still, despite all the things I enjoyed, STORM AND FURY is not without its faults. While the plot bought some surprises, it was kinda (a wee bit) predictable. And as much as I love Trinity and Zayne, they have a hard time competing for my love of Layla and Roth. Low key, their guest appearances, along with that of a certain snake familiar’s were some of the biggest highlights of the story for me.
In conclusion…
I really enjoyed STORM AND FURY! It’s a fantastic spin-off to a series I love. There’s action, romance, chemistry, and so much more, all with a hint of sass courtesy of Trinity.
Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…
4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Set close to my hometown, in Pennsylvania I was excited to read about the girl in the mountains of Morgantown, WV. I immediately fell in Love with Trinitys confidence and interactions with the other characters. When finding she had an eye disease that coukd eventually cause blindness I felt even more attached to her. We are not defined by our diseases, or shortcomings. They are simply a part of us that we must learn to live with. Her strength in doing so made this book an inspiration in my eyes. I definitely didnt see things haooening the way they did but can not for Book2 in The Harbinger series!! I loved many aspects of this novel, and hope you decide to go on this magical journey featuring Gargoyles, angels, and demons!! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher(s) for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!
Demons, Angels, Ghosts, Witches and Gargoyles oh my.
I loved it ! Was it really over 500 pages ? It felt short, I was left wanting more. Sure I missed sleep and maybe a couple social functions so I could stay home and read. Don't judge it was so good. Action packed, heartwarming, heartbreaking, sexy, and interesting. The world created was unique, an slowly unraveled, no info dumping :D. It's basically about Wardens (Gargoyles), and others who protect our world from demons. When the demons get testy and force action by stealing a warden and killing many humans. Two characters step up and search for answers..
Let's talk about Zayne the hot, sexy, kind, gentlemanly, protective, honest, loyal, gargoyle, yes I said gargoyle. This is the perfect man, and he can double as a house ornament. Seriously, this character was swoon worthy plus.
Trinity a child of mixed race who is raised in a gargoyle compound and has some special skills. Her skills make her a target for some very bad things and must remain hidden. She is smart, physically strong, but suffers from a degenerative disease. This only makes her be more. She wasn't all sparkles and sunshine which I loved, she had real qualities. Trinity suffered from some bouts of immaturity, which is expected for an 18 year old.
There are several wonderful supportive characters you'll meet but wait till you get to know Peanut, Peanut rocks !
I never read the series this spun off from. Sad right ? While reading it I never felt like I didn't know what was going on or like I was missing something. I own them and will be reading them very soon. I want more of this world. Where is book 2, Ms Armentrout, hurry.
Thank you to the publishers for an early review copy so I can offer my honest review
5 Stars!
Jennifer Armentrout does an exceptional job at writing stories that hook me and hold me captive. Storm and Fury is no different. I devoured this book and couldn't help but to want more. I loved her characters. Trinity has a secret, one that could cost her her life. She has lived with Wardens for years in hiding, but only a few know the secret.
When Zayne shows up things begin to shift and Trinity finds herself having to trust him in hopes of protecting her life and much more.
Zayne is a Warden and I couldn't help but to love him. He's protective, and such a mystery. Now I must admit, I dove into this story not realizing that it is a spin-off from another series. So Zayne was a complete mystery to me where as he may not be to others. I know without a doubt that I will be going back to read the series that started it all, and then reading this phenomenal book again before the next book releases.
I love Jennifer Armentrout's worldbuilding. It's always so unique, and this book is so special. We are given such an insight to who the author is herself. In this book you can truly see a piece of the author within the pages. Thank you Jennifer for allowing us to know you on a more personal level, and to have a look at how you see the world.
I loved this story! Truly loved it, as I knew I would. I am so excited for the next book to come to continue reading the journey that Trinity has begun.
I really enjoyed this story. It was fast paced and intriguing. The characters were fun and interesting. A good twist at the end (though I figured it well before that, I still found it well planned and executed). I had not read the story that this one branched off from but I didn't really feel like I was missing anything. I look forward to what happens in the next book!
J.L. Armentrout did it again!
There was incredible angst, swoon, and action but what I loved here was the story. There were some great twists which I very much enjoyed!
