Storm and Fury is the first book in the spinoff series of The Dark Elements. This first book follows Trinity and Zayne. Trinity has a secret that could change the world and Zayne grapples with the events of the original trilogy.

There’s always a fine line to walk when writing a spinoff series in terms of how much information to include in regards to the events of the original story. Armentrout walks this line flawlessly as the pertinent information is parceled out slowly and clearly to the reader as the story progresses. I’ve read and loved the original trilogy, but it’s been awhile so my memories were quite foggy. While reading Storm and Fury, I never felt as if I was missing out on anything by not remembering the events of the original trilogy.

Storm and Fury is told from Trinity’s perspectives, so readers get an in-depth look at Trinity’s genetic eye disorder that she shares with the author herself. The emotion that comes through the pages when Trinity discusses her failing eyesight is palpable.

If you’re an avid of Armentrout’s work then this comparison should delight you, if not… #sorrynotsorry. The dynamic between Zanye and Trinity is reminiscent of Seth and Alex from the Covenant series. Though Zayne and Trinity aren’t as intensely sensual as Seth and Alex, their friendship, their immediate connection, and chemistry are undeniable. If I were in the prediction game, I would say Zanye and Trinity are about to get a lot more intense.

What I’ve always loved about Armentrout’s fantasy novels is her perfect balance between fantasy and romance elements. Neither of the storylines takes a backseat to each other. The fantasy elements of the story are always well plotted out with rules while the romance is always alluring. Storm and Fury is no exception. The only criticism I’ll levy at the romance in this novel is that it is very much PG compared to some of her other fantasy novels. It is straddling the line between young adult and new adult, so that should come as no surprise.

The only actual criticism that I have is that some of the story elements at the end of the novel are predictable. However, the direction of the story is one I was rooting for from the first few chapters when certain ideas are introduced. Sorry that I’m being vague, but spoilers. Just know, that I am 100% there for this story and am dying for the sequel.

Overall, Storm and Fury is easily some of Armentrout best fantasy work.

This book is amazing and I am thrilled to be back in this world!

You have no idea how much you needed a book until you're reading it. At least, that's how I felt about Storm and Fury. I loved it from the very beginning and I never wanted it to end. But eventually, I read the last page and I had to be okay with the fact that I will be waiting for a while until I can my hands on the sequel.

Storm and Fury, if you don't know yet, is a spin-off series to The dark elements series. It follows Trinity, the last Trueborn (half angel, half demon) and Zayne, the same Warden you'll remember from White Hot Kiss. Romance happens and I was totally here for it. I loved them together and I'm so sad to let them go until next time ;).

Overall, this was a pure joy to read. It was compelling and on-point. Fans of the dark elements will not be disappointed and I cannot recommend it enough (even if you're new to this world!)

Also, I wanted to mention the representation in this book. The FMC has an eye disease that will eventually progress and probably make her blind. I don't have the book with me so I don't remember exactly how it's called but it made me more aware and for that, I am grateful.

One last thing.... Can I please get the next book? I'll do anything. Well, almost ;P.

(Thank you so much to the publisher for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)

Trinity is a heroine with a disability. I can't say I have ever read where a battle will be fought by a "blind" warrior girl. Having been protected by gargoyle warriors since she was 8, she is destined to fight a war she knows nothing about. Bonded to a protector warden, demons have killed all of her kind but her. Having been hidden, suddenly demons have found her. The battle is coming and a huge twisty that I didn't see coming changes everything. This was a very good read. There is a small cliffhanger that will morph into a second book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.

Haven't read the first in series so I was a little confused how everything began.
But it is a good different paranormal with drama, action, angst, and romance.
Trinity and Zayne are great together.
Love Trinity .
Would be better to read the first in series.

Note: I received a free copy of the book from Harlequin Teen through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Storm and Fury is one of those books that makes you want to crawl inside and live in the world the author creates. The premise of human-stone guardian hybrids, called Wardens, fighting off demons hidden throughout the world of humans is a really interesting concept, and Armentrout pulls it off believably. The main character, Trinity, is an easy character to love. She’s human enough to experience purely human moments, but she also has a little bit of something extra that gives her some oomph, especially later on in the book. Also, major props to Armentrout for creating a female character who is naturally stronger than any other male in the book.

I think the strongest part of this book is how real the relationships are, even among mythical creatures. Trinity faces many intricate romantic situations throughout the book, many of which are probably relatable to teens today. Often in YA, we see insta-love relationships, which can get tiring. The primary relationship in Storm and Fury isn’t insta-love by any means, and further revelations make the relationship messier. I also appreciated how Armentrout honestly depicts sexuality in a young, explorative relationship. It’s high time that YA books, especially fantasy, show young characters exploring their sexuality in safe, tentative ways.

Overall, this book rocked my world for the few short days that I sped through it, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. (The ending makes it very obvious which direction the series is heading in!)

Rating: 3.5 Stars.

If you've read the Dark Elements trilogy (White Hot Kiss is book 1) and you were Team Zayne, you will really enjoy Storm and Fury. This book is super fast-paced and adds so much more to the world JLA built in the first trilogy. It was a little predictable but I had too much fun reading it to care. I liked that we got to see characters from the original trilogy and that the main character has a disability.

If you read The Darkest Star and thought it read a little young, this book doesn't suffer as much from that. I'd highly recommend reading the Darkest Elements trilogy before this book. If you love paranormal romance, definitely check out Storm and Fury.

This was a hunk of a book, one of the longest I've had to get through this year, but it was definitely a fun read. I enjoyed Trinity's story. The premise was definitely interesting, I was immediately caught by the fact that she can see and talk to ghosts and spirits...all the while going blind. She doesn't let her disability impede her from doing what she wants. The romance was also sweet and I loved Zayne. I'm definitely picking up a copy for my personal collection!

Storm and Fury is a spin-off of Jennifer L. Armentrout's The Dark Elements series. I didn't realize gargoyle could be so swoon-worthy! I have just recently discovered Armentrout so I'm still working my way through her treasure trove of goodness. With that said The Dark Elements series is one I have yet to read. You don't need to read The Dark Elements before Storm and Fury but I would recommend because it will spoil the ending to that series.

I love Armentrout's writing style, her character development, and world building. Storm and Fury did not disappoint me at all!

I highly recommend pre-ordering this book!

Storm and Fury was an enjoyable read.

Trinity Marrow has been living alongside Wardens, gargoyle shapeshifters who help to protect humankind from demons. She spends her days training with the Wardens, speaking to ghosts and spirits and finding ways to try to ease the boredom of living in an isolated Warden compound. With little to do she focuses on training because not only is she slowly going blind but she’s also hiding a secret that would make her a target for demons.

Trinitys quiet life is turned upside down when a group of Wardens visit from another compound. Trinity is intrigued but mostly annoyed by one of the Wardens named Zayne. Then the compound is attacked and Trinity finds her secret revealed and is forced to work with Zayne to keep those she loves safe.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Trinity and Zayne. It was entertaining from their first meeting and just got better from there. The story moved along quickly and I found the world Jennifer Armentrout created interesting. I’d love to read more from this series.

A spinoff series set in the world from the Dark Elements trilogy follows Trinity who has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Trinity is also hiding a big secret about her true ability, one that can put her life in danger if it's found out by the wrong people, as a result Trinity lives under the protection of Wardens. When Wardens from another clan arrive Trinity soon finds her path crossing with Zayne who brings news that there is something that is killing both Wardens and demons. After an attack close to home Trinity and Zayne find themselves working together to defeat the threat.

Trinity is a strong character who has been trained well to fight in battles. Along with her strength Trinity has a sarcastic, witty personality. She is a devoted friend and would go to any length to protect them. It was fun to see her ability to see ghosts and the friendship that she formed with a ghost named Peanut. Trinity's true ability is one that is both dangerous and advantageous.

I really enjoyed seeing Zayne again and the interactions between him and Trinity were amusing and involved lots of constant bantering. As the two learn how to work together they grow closer over the course of the book each learning how to trust one another.

There are some characters that return in this series other than Zayne as well. It was fun to see both Roth and Layla again, especially Roth. I enjoy Roth's sarcastic wit and loved seeing everyone come together.

It's been awhile since I've read the Dark Elements trilogy, but I had no trouble revisiting this world. This was a fast paced novel in a world of Wardens and demons with new and old characters joining forces. You have battles, friendship, and betrayal leaving you on a cliffhanger ending that leaves me excited for the next book.

I received and advanced copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

JLA is one of my favorite authors, and she once again proves her talent in Storm and Fury!

This is a new series that also references characters from The Dark Element series, so yes, this is about demons and gargoyles, a world that is filled with hellions, imps, witches, ghosts and other things that go bump in the night.

Enter Trinity, a barely 17-year-old who has been living under the protection of Wardens (a.k.a. gargoyles) nearly her whole life. Bonded to Misha, a Warden whose mission is to train, watch and protect her, Trinity is a special snowflake. JLA liberally peppers Trinityʻs comments with such snark which made me like her character right away and makes the read all the more fun despite the tension of a pending war between Wardens and Demons.

When three Wardens, Nicolai, Dez and Zayne, make a visit to her family home, Trinity catches a glimpse of Zayne and feels an immediate connection. Before Trinity and Zayne can explore this further, Misha is taken and for the first time in her life, Trinity decides to leave her home and go with the Wardens in search of her best friend.

As the reader, it took a while to get to the point of understanding why the war and what is Trinity though we know sheʻs at least half human with a degenerative eye condition, the result of her human genetics. In spite of her deteriorating eye sight, Trinity accepts her condition and trains hard to be a bad ass fighter who can sink a dagger into her target like nobodyʻs business. Plus, her secret superpower is ah-mazing. More reasons to like her!

The romantic tension between Trinity and Zayne stretches throughout the story and though I wanted them to get together already, I love that they trade barbs and talk smack so we get to know them as individuals with secrets they aren't ready to reveal. And, when they do, wowza. Let's just say that everything is innocent until it isn't. hee hee. And, imagining Zayne blush tickled me pink!

The fight scenes are seriously awesome, and I love the world building. But, my favorite character aside from Trinity and Zayne has to be a ghost. A ghost who thinks he's still alive. I want him to be because he is so damn funny and stalker creepy in a good way, if there's such a thing.

The ending hints at a sequel, and i hope it comes out soon! Mahalo (thank you) to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC, I plan to re-read it again!

Reliant upon the Dark Elements series for its background, Storm and Fury is the first in a new series by perennial favorite Armentrout, who lives up to her name by using her usual flair for the dramatic and bold. She also introduces a heroine who is suffering from a degeneration of her ocular vision, though it's her ability to see ghosts that has made Trinity irreplaceable--and thus, hidden. Trinity chafes at this, and at the testosterone-riddled attitudes of the Wardens in charge of her well-being until, as per the usual YA fantasy trope, a broody, single-minded one comes along to steal her heart and help her cement her fate. Her fate, of course, being to save the world.

I received this eARC novel from the author and from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Trinity's life is different. She lives with the Wardens, but she is not a Warden. She trains like a Warden, but most in her community think that she's a human. She's not just a human. Trinity is one of the last of her kind, but she cannot let anyone know what she is. Not the Wardens, who might think she's an abomination. Not the humans, who can't comprehend what exactly she is. And definitely not the demons, for they would do anything to get their hands on her.

Trinity is just waiting for the day that her father will summon her to use her greatest weapon to stop a certain event. What the event is? She has no idea.

Things get a little complicated, though, when 3 Wardens show up. No one - never - comes to their community, so the fact that 3 new people are there, welcomed, makes Trinity go into spy mode to figure out what is happening. And that's when she bumped into Zayne, an interesting Warden with his own secrets to hide.

When Trinity's protector, Misha, gets taken by an upper level demon, Trinity is making it her mission to get her protector, but more importantly her friend, back. And to do that, she is leaving with Zayne. Trinity has always wanted to travel, but this was not what she had in mind.

The longer Trinity is away from her home, the more secrets are revealed. Not only about her, but about everything in her life. By the end of her journey, Trinity will wonder what was real and what wasn't...

Oh man. I was a little hesitant about this book. Not because I thought I wouldn't like it (it's JLA, I'll always love it!) but because it was about Zayne and I was totally Team Roth in the previous series. I was just hoping that I would find a way to connect with Zayne, but I shouldn't have worried because Armentrout was able to make me fall in love with Zayne almost as much as I love Roth. Trinity is a great fit for him, and I'm so glad that the storyline went in this direction because it is so great!!

I wish we were able to get Zayne's viewpoint throughout the novel, because I'm sure what he was thinking about Trinity would have been amazing. Zayne is such a good guy, but Trinity pushed him past some dark secrets and really tested his boundaries. It would have been amazing to see what he was thinking about her during those times.

Also, with Trinity's eye disease, which JLA also has. I really thought Armentrout did an amazing job explaining it in a way for readers to understand this rare eye disease. I can't imagining going through that process, and when Trinity freaked out when Zayne essentially blocked all vision - that would be me everyday thinking about the future not being able to see. That is my worst fear - losing my vision, and Armentrout was really brave for making her main character have something so personal to her life.

I'm so glad I didn't let me hesitance stop me from reading this book, because now I need to know more and more about what is going to happen to these characters! Fans of JLA and The Dark Elements series is going to LOVE this next installment!

So far, I have loved everything that I've read by Jennifer. This new world by her is just simply amazing. (As usual of course)

Trinity is outside the walls and fighting the bad guys (demons mainly). No big deal right? Well, Trinity isn't supposed to leave the grounds she lives on. Not just because her eyesight is going, but she holds a great secret. She can see and talk with ghosts/spirits. That's why the wardens want to keep her inside the grounds at all times.

But come on....being cooped up in one place for like ever? That will drive anyone nuts. All Trinity wants is to go out and help. She is capable of fighting and keeping up with the big bad demons.

Trinity's world won't be safe for much longer. Something is coming and its killing both humans and the wardens. On top of it all, her secret is finally out and if things weren't bad before...well things are about to pick up and keep moving until the very last page.

An amazing new series, one I can't wait to dive back into again.

It is hard to put how much I enjoyed this book into words, but Trinity's story had me sucked in and hooked within the first few chapters. I loved the intrigue created by not knowing all of Trinity's story from the very beginning, and the mix of romance, action, and suspense had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The book was long enough so that you felt like you really got to know the characters, and so that the developing relationships didn't feel forced, but the pacing still made it feel like there were never any slow sections. I really appreciated how real the characters felt, and the author made sure to give them realistic characteristics, limitations and quirks that made them more relatable, and their stories more poignant. While I'm not typically a big fan of fantasy that centres around angels/demons or religious undertones, Storm and Fury may have converted me. The only bad thing about this book is that the wait for the next instalment in the series is going to feel like an eternity. In the meantime I will definitely be checking out the author's other series. Would highly recommend this book to any reader interested in YA/NA books with a mix of romance, action, and intrigue!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin TEEN (US & Canada) and Inkyard Press for the advance reader copy Storm and Fury by one of my favorite romance authors, Jennifer L. Armentrout, in exchange for an honest review. I plunged into this new series and did not want to stop reading!!! I loved Trinity; she was such a strong, positive female protagonist; she was a warrior to be reckoned with when her clan let her fight yet she was also struggling with lessening eyesight and being over-protected by her gargoyle warden family since it is imperative (she is the last of her kind) she be kept hidden from the world. When demons are turning up killed, a group from the DC clan comes and asks her clan for help. Trinity’s life is totally upended with the arrival of Zayne, Dez and Nikolai. Without going into too much more detail; Trinity and Zayne were steamy and swoon worthy; I can’t wait to see what happens to them in the next book of this series. This a paranormal fantasy romance you do not want to miss!!!

Thos book is so amazing. I loved the fact it gives more depth into a previous world the author created and giving me even more characters to fall in love and get heartbroken by. Very unique concepts and at times heart wrenching plot twists. Definitely recommend!

I really loved reentering the world of the Wardens for the first time in several years. Even though Storm and Fury centers on a completely different main character, Trinity, I liked her point of view, as well as her romance with Zayne. Zayne, as well, was a lot more interesting to me than he was when I read the original trilogy. The writing style, of course, was just phenomenal. As a long-time lover of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books, I thought the flow and pacing of the book was excellent, as was the steamy romance and the bizarre details such as Peanut the ghost.
However, I did feel like the plot was fairly predictable at times, and it seemed very similar to the plot of White Hot Kiss, one of the only main differences being Trinity's and Layla's species.
Still, Storm and Fury was an enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series. 3.5/5 stars.

This book was a great story about growing up in a protected environment and yearning for new experiences. The characters are unique, vulnerable, and strong. It is good versus evil, without forgetting the gray areas in between. I loved this book. It is the first book I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more and recommend her books to readers as well.
