Storm and Fury is the beginning of a new spinoff series, although I did not read the original and it stands alone. It's a fun urban fantasy with plenty of romance and a teen character living with a disability. Set in a world where gargoyles come to life as Wardens to protect humanity from demons, we follow eighteen-year-old Trinity who is half-human and half...something else. She lives in a Warden compound where she and her secret identity are protected and she is trained to fight demons. She is reckless and often bored, but when things begin to go wrong and a new, attractive Warden shows up, sparks fly.

I really enjoyed this. Armentrout does a great job of writing sexy, kind of over the top, banter between the main character and her love interest, which is fun. It's an interesting world and the plot kept my attention reasonably well. But the thing that I really appreciated about this was the disability representation in the book. Trinity is powerful, but she also has a genetic disorder that affects her vision and she is slowly going blind. It's powerful seeing a teen girl wrestle with the knowledge that one day, she will barely be able to see anything, if at all. And yet, she works around it and trains that much harder to fight and hone her instincts in a way that compensates for her poor vision. I really love it and one thing that's really cool about this, is that the author has the same genetic disorder and is writing her own experience (sans demons?) with losing her vision and coming to terms with that. I think this is a really important story to have in existence and I love that we are starting to get strong heroines who kick ass in spite of physical challenges.

In terms of content warnings, do be aware that this includes violence, a scene of attempted sexual assault (though the response to that attempt is quite satisfying) and grappling with the loss of a parent. I received a review copy of this book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Well, I think Roth was my first JLA book boyfriend, the original series that we met Zayne in. So I was definitely glad when Roth did show up again. As always, once I picked this up to read, all I wanted to do was sit and read to the very last page and do nothing else. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that, and it took me several days to finish. Darn work and sleeping, etc. It was so much fun to be back in the world of gargoyles and demons. While I'd never been Team Zayne, because I was Team Roth all the way, that was with Layla. Here, for Trinity, I became Team Zayne in no time. What I love about Armentrout's heroines is that they are all so sarcastic and so much like I see myself and my friends. And I love the banter and relationships between the characters in her worlds as well. The references to the tv show Supernatural, which is one of my all time favorites, other than this past year I guess, are so much fun. The fact that Zayne has a car like Dean, totally made me laugh. It was also fun that Trinity could talk to ghosts, that was a fun new aspect to this story. There were so many times I thought maybe I was seeing something going on, but this author totally knows how to keep me on my toes, thinking one thing, but then the next thing that happened would send my mind down another path of what might be going on.

Loved this new story, and while it definitely was left open for another book, I mean who is this Harbinger and what are they after, it had a definite ending, so that I wasn't cursing the author for leaving me waiting till the next book. My only issue with the book is a slightly technical one. When Trinity says she wanted to be an archeologist after the movie Jurassic Park, the science teacher/wannabe paleontologist in me must point out that she means paleontologist, an archeologist might be after the movie The Mummy.

While I read an e-galley of this, I will definitely be buying a finished copy, debating if I can afford to do one of the pre-order deals, but don't think I can, so I'll just buy it when I get the chance. I will however be sure to purchase it for my high school library with my budget money next year.

Jennifer Armentrout is an auto-buy author for me. I absolutely love the magical stories that she tells while infusing them with some steamy romance.

This was my first time reading about gargoyles, which was a treat. I loved Trinity's character. She's a kick a*s and take names kind of girl who doesn't let anyone run over her. And then there's Zayne. Jennifer always knows how to write male character that I can absolutely drool over. The plot was fast paced and the twists and turns kept me tearing through the pages.

I can't wait to see how the rest of the series goes.

This is a spin off from the last trilogy. While you do not have to read the first one I suggest it. It being a spin off it will help you understand the world the book is set in.

Now that being said. I found the first part of the story a bit tedious but maybe that was because I already knew the world and it seemed to take a bit for those new to read the story.

But I did get into the story about a third of the way through and enjoyed it very much. Just give it a chance.

I really liked Zayne. He is a diamond in the rough. Trinity took me a bit to warm up to but I eventually liked her.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am that we’re finally getting Zayne’s story. I’ll admit, he wasn’t exactly my favorite in The Dark Elements series, but I knew more than anything that I’d love to read about his happily ever after. I’m so thankful that Jennifer decided to give us his story because I am here for all of it.

Before I started, I had no idea what I was going to get myself into. But I definitely gained a new appreciation for Zayne, I’ll be honest, my heart broke for him a little bit. And I’m just entirely unsure what other hurdles he’ll have to get over before the end of this series. It’s so evident that he’s still dealing with everything that happened during The Dark Element series. Or rather lack of dealing it, I don’t think he’ll completely move on from it all until he decides to face it.

And I truly believe Trinity will be the one that will force him to start facing his problems. I loved Trinity and she came off a little bit older than her age. She’s definitely the type of girl that flies off the handle and acts before she thinks. She’s not afraid and will never be one to stand down from a fight. Like many of JLA’s heroines, never come between them and the ones they love, they’re fierce and loyal to them 100%.

Of course, we get to see Layla and Roth, AND his familiars 😉 Everything between Layla and Zayne is a little bit stunted and just painful, so I know that we’ll continue to see their story arc throughout the series. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that because it’s essentially adding in a third party. Of course, it won’t go that way, but Zayne is in a position where he’s still trying to sort everything out. I’m still not convinced about his feelings towards Trinity. And Trin is on the same boat out that. I’m hoping like heck that he won’t break her heart, I will not be happy about that.

Thankfully the ending wasn’t too cliffhanger-y, but I totally saw what happened coming and it just has me biting at the bit! I just have no idea how Zayne will approach everything that has been thrown his way. Zayne, the rule follower, sticking to what he was always taught even if he was proven wrong about certain things. I’m holding out a lot of hope for him and just rather eager to get the next book in their story.

All around, a great start to JLA’s new series and one that I’ll undoubtedly be a fan of!

Storm and Fury is just beyond wow. This is book one of The Harbinger series and it is off to one fantastic start. I was kept glued to the pages and I couldn't put this one down at all. I love what Jennifer L. Armentrout brings to the pages with this one. If you love the world of demons, spirits, ghost, whiches, wardens (gargoyle shape-shifters) and more then you will love this book. I'm not going to give away too much with this one. Other then that I love Trinity and everything that is surrounding her. She is one tough cookie and when you find out what she is you will love her even more. And wait until you meet Zayne. I love the reaction between Trinity and Zayne. Oh lets not forget Peanut because he will have you cracking up at times. Trinity and her abilities makes her special in all ways and as Storm and Fury unfolds you will get to see just how special she truely is. I love this one so much. It was just the book I needed to sink my teeth into. This page turner is one that needs to be picked up.

I love the worlds that JLA creates! All the details put into it, all the character developments and all good stuff to create a story that pulls you into their world and holds you captive that makes you never wanting to leave.

I love paranormal and this one is unique and I love it. Although I haven’t yet read The Dark Elements series where you first meet Zayne, Roth and Layla, I can say that I wasn’t lost reading about these characters in this book. I will be going and reading all about them now though! I loved Roth and Layla and need to go read their story. So if you haven’t read those either, don’t worry, it’s not necessary to read this book.

There’s so much going on and mysteries that I’m so eager to get the next book already!! I need to know all the things! I love a good suspense book, filled with drama, fighting, love and friendship. This has it all! And I want more!

I love that even though Trinity has a disability which hinders her eyesight, she never lets it get in the way of what she wants to do and what she was trained to do. She’s pretty bad@ss like that and can still kick some demon butt!!

I was always firmly Team Zayne and so I never really got into The Dark Elements series. When I found out he would be getting his own books, I was ecstatic! This was my first JLA book is a long time, and I had forgotten how much I love her writing! She always writes such great heroines and the humor is relatable without being over the top. It took me a while to get into the story, but once I did I was totally invested in the characters and their problems. I loved the twists that are sprung on us towards the end of the book and I cannot wait for the sequel! JLA remains my go-to author when I'm looking for a good paranormal story to get lost in.

This is quite the enjoyable and entertaining story, even though it is similar to the author's other works.

Trinity is a special snowflake. Quite a few times, she'd get on my nerves with the decisions she'd take. Even though she'd say she was thinking of others, her motives would kind of be selfish, in my opinion. She does have badass aspects that I loved. Not only that, she has an eye illness that affects her vision to the point where she can go blind. This illness is the same that JLA has. It was nice to learn something new and read the author's experience through Trinity. Zayne was ever the gentleman. I honestly liked him a lot and he gave a lot to the story.

There was a lot of action involved in this one, which is something I like out of a paranormal story. Even though I didn't read the Dark Elements series, I was never lost reading this one, which I thought was great. I already knew a little of Layle and Roth, so seeing them and a few other characters in this new series was fantastic for me, especially Roth!

I enjoyed this story a lot. The only thing is that JLA's writing, even though it's amazing, it's kind of repetitive. This seemed so similar to her Covenant series, in a lot of ways. Still, it's quite entertaining and will keep you wanting more :)

Reminded me of the Shadowhunters series, but still a great read. Had me laughing at parts and I enjoyed the banter between Trin and the other characters.

With a very Buffy-like character in Trinity, this YA urban fantasy sucked me in immediately! Snappy and funny dialogue and the romantic tension, plus the question of what Trinity was and swoony Zayne, made this a fast read for me. Gargoyles, demons, angels in our world was interesting and I'm curious about where the story will go next. I didn't read the Dark Elements trilogy, but now having met Roth, I will put it on my TBR list.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC of Storm and Fury and the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review.

This book reminded me of how I felt about The Cruel Prince. What I mean by that is I really did not like the first 70% of this book, and only started to get into it during the last 30%.

Now, this is a spin off series. One I have not read, so I may have missed some important things from the previous series that could have made this better for me. I don’t think I’ll go back and read the previous series.

Storm and Fury follows Trinity Marrow. She lives in a compound, protected by Wardens, or Gargoyles. Trinity keeps a secret that only a select few people know. When another clan comes to visit the compound, Trinity’s world is turned upside down. Demons start attacking the compound, it will be up to Trinity to help save her family, friends, and the world.

Basically I had a hard time getting through this book. There were a lot of times I just wanted to stop reading. I basically wanted to read this because I saw gargoyles and was immediately reminded of my favorite childhood show, Gargoyles.

The one think I had problems with the most, was the speech. I’m not sure if it is because I am no longer a teenager, but the way that Trinity speaks is childish. Something I just couldn’t overlook. I felt like it got better in that last 30% which may be way I was able to get into the story a bit more. She seemed to mature at the end and talk less like a teen, and more like a young adult. She still kept her humor and sassiness, but it evolved a bit.

I really did not connect to any of the characters, and found the majority of the book boring. There was definitely more action in the last 30% of the story, which I found made it more interesting. Overall, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

This will release 11JUN2019

LOVED IT! I don’t know where to even begin how much I loved Storm Fury! But let me start with the amazing heroine, Trinity. She was raised by the Wardens, a gargoyle warrior race that protects humankind from demons. Trinity is going blind but doesn't let that slow her down in her fight against evil. She takes on insurmountable odds and when she is teamed up with Zayne, a Warden from another city, the story simply ignites.

From start to finish, Jennifer L. Armentrout creates a fascinating, pulse intensifying tale that will rivet the readers to the pages. Their was nothing I didn't like about this book, its going on the favorite shelf.

I received this ARC copy of Storm and Fury from Harlequin TEEN (US & Canada) - Inkyard Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Storm and Fury is set for publication June 11, 2019.

Storm and Fury by Jennifer Armentrout is the first book in the new Harbinger series. I will admit, I didn’t read The Dark Elements series so a lot of what I learned and happened in this book was new to me and while the characters from that series do show up in this one, they aren’t the main focus. I don’t know that I needed to have the back story of those characters to get into this one but having gone back to read the summaries, I understood the link better.

The main character in this book is Trinity Marrow. She has been living with Wardens for a long time to hide a secret that could put her in a lot of danger but when other Wardens show up to the compound to share some news about something out there killing Wardens and demons, things start to implode.

As I mentioned, Trinity (and her family) are hiding a secret about her. I’m not going to say a lot about it because I don’t want to give it away, but I will tell you that if the demons found out about it, it would put her in danger. On top of that secret, Trinity can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits which makes her special and gives her the opportunity to dig a bit more into the things she sees. I liked Trinity. She loves her family and friends and as you will find out in the story, will do anything to protect them. I loved that she didn’t let her disability (she’s going blind) hold her back either. It reflected a strength of character that not everyone has and in the world Trinity lives in, she doesn’t have the luxury of just sitting back and feeling sorry for herself.

This other group of Wardens that show up at the compound include Zayne. If you read The Dark Elements series, that name will sound familiar to you. He has a back story and as I mentioned, everything was new to me because I hadn’t read the other books. I don’t think it hurt the story for me at all, it just kept me wondering what the heck his story was. It was eventually revealed but you just have to wait for it. I liked Zayne. He’s a little angsty which I don’t mind but he sees something in Trinity and as the story continues, something is revealed that helps to explain the connection these two feel for each other. I loved how their relationship progressed and will be curious to see what happens next for these two.

The secondary characters are great. I loved getting a glimpse into Trinity’s family – Misha, Thierry, Matthew, and of course Jada. As the story progresses, her relationships change with each of these characters and it definitely helped the story along. It was also interesting to see Trinity mix with new people like Nicolai, Dex, Roth, and Layla. Again, I’m interested to see where things go for all of them based on how this book ended. I can’t neglect to mention Peanut here too because he really does help and support Trinity when she needs it.

The world building Armentrout does is always well done. In this case, the structure of the demon world, how Trinity fits in, and of course mixing in the human world helped to build out this story and I’m always amazed at how this is done.

Overall, I thought this was a solid book one for a new series and while there is overlap with the other books, we do get introduced to a different story. If you enjoyed The Dark Elements series, I really think you will want to pick this one up. I’m never disappointed by a Jennifer Armentrout book and this book made me want to go back to pick up the ones I missed. I will definitely be picking up book two when available and encourage you to add this one to your TBR if you enjoy the paranormal genre.

It has been a while since I read The Dark Elements series by this author and I was so excited when I heard she was revisiting this world. Zayne wasn't my favorite character in the previous series, but that's because Roth was just so amazing that Zayne was kind of left on the sidelines. I didn't really know that I wanted Zayne to have his own story until I heard it was coming.

Trinity is special. She comes off as human, but there is so much more to her. She is kept in a warden compound for her own protection and is somewhat content because she knows of the danger outside of the compound walls. All kinds of demons would love to get their hands on her. Our favorite warden, Zayne, comes to visit and there is an immediate connection, but they both brush it off. He is annoying and she asks too many questions. He'll be gone at the end of the week and she won't see him again. Or so they think.

This book was good, but I didn't feel it was at the level of The Dark Elements or even The Darkest Star. I loved Trinity, but Zayne was my problem. He seemed completely different than he did in the previous books. I almost didn't recognize him. And Layla...well, let's just say I wasn't her biggest fan at all in this book. (Roth is still all kinds of awesome though.) I could go on and on and on about Layla, but I will save it for my book friends.

Overall, a good story, just some character issues I had. Will definitely be reading the next installment.

Even though this isn't really being marketed as a spinoff, I would not recommend reading it without having read Dark Elements. There is too much backstory involving Zayne and the gargoyle world for the beginning reader. With that disclaimer, I read Dark Elements as they were released in 2014/15 and absolutely loved them; it remains one of my favorite series from JLA. Needless to say, I was thrilled to return to the DE world.

Maybe my tastes have changed in the last five years, but I didn't enjoy this new installment on the same level as its predecessor. There is the classic JLA humor and banter, but the characters are not as in-depth or engaging as I had anticipated. There is little world building and the entire storyline is flat; it's very basic PNR/UF. It felt much like other series with the names and settings swapped. I adored sweet Zayne, and the cameos from Roth were enough to earn 3 Stars. I didn't have a strong connection with Trinity either way, but her disease gives a vulnerability readers can admire. I am invested enough to continue with the series and hope this author and I can mesh again in the next book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for my advanced review copy.

In STORM AND FURY, Jennifer L. Armentrout has created dynamic characters, steamy romance scenes, and unexpected plot twists.

Armentrout is a fabulous story teller, and I loved STORM AND FURY. I especially enjoyed the secondary characters - specifically Zayne. The main character, Trinity, seemed a bit scattered and inconsistent, but Zayne was well developed and fun to follow. This was the first book I've read by Armentrout, and I didn't realize beforehand that this was a spin-off from another series. Without having read any of her other books, I was still able to fully follow the plot and characters in this story. And now . . . I want to go and read the other series!

Additionally, even though STORM AND FURY is the first book in a new series, the plot was wrapped up beautifully, and I look forward to the next book.

Some of my favorite lines from the book:

"I wasn't part-Warden, either, and they were like real-life superheroes, hunting down the bad guys, if superheroes were, well, gargoyles."

"Isn't that evil's greatest achievement? It often hides itself in innocence?"

"My iron blade clattered onto the driveway, settling in a pile of demon dust."

[I received a free advanced copy from the publisher via Net Galley, which in no way influenced my opinion.]

I really liked Storm and Fury! It was a fun book with a super cool premise. As I said above, this was my first book by the author, and even though it was a spinoff series, I didn’t feel like I had missed out on anything by not reading the initial series/introduction to the world. At the beginning, I had a little bit of a hard time connecting to Trinity, but as I got more into it (maybe like 4 or 5 chapters in), I really started to like her and the supporting characters. I thought Zayne was amazing and he’s definitely my favorite. I’m confused about Peanut and why he played as large of a role in the book as he did, but maybe it will be explained more in book two?

When the story really got going (after the demon breach at the compound), I got so into this book that I 100% could not put it down (aka I read it until 4am on a day where I had to be in the office by 8am- that was definitely a super rough day…)! The characters you meet and the plot twists that happen in the second half of the book were amazing!

Another thing that I thought was really cool was Trinity's eye disease. I learned so much about something I had never thought about (a degenerative eye disease) and then the author's note at the end that tied it all together with the author's own journey with said eye disease made it so real and brought up a great point about how we really never know what's going on with others and that everything is not always so black and white (seeing vs blind in this case).

Just as a heads up to people who have never read a Jennifer L Armentrout book before (like me)- the actual writing style of the book takes a little while to get used to. As an adult reading YA, the writing style felt a little young- BUT that’s not an issue- just something I wish I had realized before I started reading it so I could go in expecting that. It didn’t change the fact that I really liked the book though!

Posted to Goodreads: Trinity Marrow isn't like other girls. She lives on a compound with Wardens who are the supernatural protectors of humans against demons. She is also a supernatural creature in her own right and her powers are the best guarded secret. However, when Trinity's bonded protector, Misha, goes missing she must team up with Wardens from another clan to try to save him. Trinity is forced to spend time with Zayne a member of the other clan who has a very rumored past. However the more time they spend together the more they connect and the more confused Trinity grows.

This book was difficult for me to get into. The first 100 or so pages moved extremely slow with a lot exposition. The book definitely picks up once Trinity and Zayne return to DC but even then I wasn't really hooked. Fans of Armentrout's The Dark Elements series will enjoy this one but new readers may be bored.
