I've had this book for years, I still haven't, unfortunately, got to it, so this is a placeholder review to reduce my shelf for my own sanity, but will replace this if I ever get to the book

I read this book in one day, only taking necessary breaks in the action. The story is two parts, in one, a young girl is hiding from the man who took her, in two, a troubled policeman works against his direct orders to find and save the young girl. This is not your usual mystery/thriller. N M Brown has developed the cast of characters to be real and catch your attention. He's given plenty of back story so that even though this is book 3 in a series, you would not know it. Lots of "oh no" and "run faster" moments made this a good read. Now I have to go find the first two books.

Tina and Suzy take their Barbie dolls across the way, down by the creek, to play. When a man approaches the 7-year-olds, they think he is a sort of big kid who wants to play with them. He says he wants a doll to play with too so Suzy takes off for home to get one for him. When she returns with the doll, Tina and the man are no where to be seen .. and Tina's Barbie doll is laying in the dust.

Although third in the series, this takes the reader back to the days when Leighton Jones was a Traffic Officer. He's still reeling from the loss of his wife and trying to be both mom and dad to his young daughter. One night while driving home, a young girl crosses the road in front of his car and vanishes among the trees.

It's only the following day that Jones learns about the missing girl. He reports his sighting to his superiors, who think Jones is imagining things. When he decides to look for the girl himself, his superiors threaten him with the loss of his 'real' job.

Meanwhile, the story continues with the kidnapping and her ultimate escape.

But Tina's nightmare has only begun........

It's a harrowing few days and nights as Tina tries to evade the man who took her. This is a fast-paced, action- packed thriller. The characters are solid, with Jones leading the way to credibility and Tina grabbing your heart as she sobs with fear and fatigue.

Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Toys in the Dust is a good quick mystery that most people will enjoy reading. This is the first time I have read a book in this series and I think I rollback and red the other two. The story is well written.

This was a quick read mystery. Not a whole lot of suspense but a fun, enjoyable read. This is a book which I would recommend to others.

Tina went to play with her friend and neighbor, Her friend had just got a big box of new toys her cousin out grew and there was a boat in there. The two girls walked across road to a tiny creak to play. They met a strange man who asked Suzy to go get him a Barbie to play as well. when Suzy came back the man and Tina are gone.
Cops question Suzy ,Suzy being only 6 tired and hungry looses interest very fast . Cops are not patient with a 6 year old nor do they know well how to question one hurry through and now think Tina is with her Dad so have stopped looking for her. She is running for her life from a very scary man.
Tina has escaped from bad man and is walking when she finds a bunch buildings. She hides in the barn. Finds water and oranges. Bad man finds her and chase is on. She does out smart him .. Tina hide for 2 dats from this guy a fire breaks out and that is when Leighton Jones and her Mom show up and save her from him.
There is way more in between but this is enough to give you an idea. This is a great read. I would recommend it.
