I won't be finishing this book. I read the first few pages and did not get on with it. As part of my reading resolutions I am trying to put books down I am not enjoying.

over the top plot and characters. This was not quite what I was anticipating but it was good for some laughs. The characters were a not as strong as I would have liked. They were older but mentally maybe a little young. Not to say immature but naive. I wouldn't say I disliked the characters, they were nice but I wasn't vested in them. The story is supposed be funny in its absurdity so the was accomplished.

Novak is a funny, page turning comedy of errors. There are scenes that make you chuckle at the absurdity. It is a thoroughly enjoyable novel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is Mary and novack book, they both sign up for a dating website and unbeknownst to them their privacy has been compromised! I loved something about Mary and even kind of liked borat but unfortunately this book wasn't for me it was funny at times but mostly, to me stupid lol sorry and novack drive me crazy in the beginning! Ugh well thank you Netgalley anyway and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

The opening paragraph of the blurb for this story is spot on. It references Borat and There’s Something About Mary, which should have told me straight away that I would detest this book. I did however have a good laugh throughout, even though I found the characters lacking in depth and intelligence.

So if you’re looking for a frivolous, unbelievable and no-brainer read, this is definitely the story for you. Mary really never has her own opinion on anything, and just accepts everything that happens without question, while Novak is portrayed as the epitome of sexy and dumb. There are no monumental or profound moments, but I did feel deeply for Mary’s son Michael and his relationship with a toxic minded father.

This story will appeal to many, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

This book reads more like a spoof than a romance. I liked it but it seemed too outrageous and the characters too willing and naive. Mary was very trustworthy and seemed kind of stupid at times. Se just went along with everything Peter was saying. She didn't seem to have much of an opinion of her own except when her anger would appear out of nowhere. Mary also didn't seem to truly have a grasp on her life. The situations she found herself in were so out of the blue that they couldn't have possibly seemed real yet she never debated on anything for more than a minute.

Novak was the epitome of hot and stupid. He seemed extremely uneducated, not in the "stupid" kind of way but more in a common sense kind of way; which I get, America isn't exactly the best place to get a crash course on urban life but still. If he watched movies than he should have been more knowledgeable. O know for a fact that Indiana Jones mentions drive thrus. He was feeling insecure but he could have sat Mary down and explained everything to her, like he did for her son; Michael. Novak seemed to be the semi hero in this spoof.

Michael, Mary's son, was smarter than all the adults in this book. He was, however, drowning in the toxic masculinity of his father.

Which is another thing. If Mary hated him, why did she even get married to him. As far as I know, toxic masculinity doesn't really hide itself that well. Not enough to justify moving and getting married and having a baby.

I don't know. I kind of like this book because it made me laugh in its outrageousness but I wasn't expecting it to be at this level.

The blurb is better than the book. The conversation is lacking in excitement and I was just board reading this. I don’t like cheaters and his wife and the other shepherd so awful for Novac. However, there is no connection between the reader and characters in this book, it takes five chapters just to try to understand what’s going on. The yogi master grandpa and his odd language is just odd. The twelve year old son, needs to understand how to treat women and respect his mom, that was a major, major turnoff early on in this book. The ex husband was even worse throughout this book and made me skip and skim over things because he is gross. This was just not the book for me.
