Neat world building, but poor characterization.
The thought controlled ships systems to the temperature of a ship without life support to the telepathic aliens rocked. But the crazy and over the top behavior of the characters was jarring. The portrayal of the marines was disappointing.
At the end the heroine is congratulated for having everything go right in her life in a courtroom. Really?! blegh
I received a free ARC from netgalley.

This book for some reason started slow for me but I did enjoy the story. Hope there will be more. I have read others by this author and have enjoyed them too. If you like sci-fi and romance then definetly check this out!

I've enjoyed reading several books by Edward Hoomaert and this one was no exception. They always leave me with a smile and a sense the world outside is a little better. Well-written and comfortably paced as a romance novel, it's a great way to unwind after a long day at work, The author has a witty writing style and the two main characters played well off each other. This reminded me of a retelling of the Taming of the Shrew for any Shakespeare fans...if we all lived in a much cooler future with aliens, spaceships, and snarky humor. Would definitely suggest if you want a couple laughs and some stress relief in your life.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I happen to be a big fan of space soap operas and although this had an intriguing plot it lacked depth. Sienna appeared to be a smart, self efficient captain but the sergent and Crispin treated her like a clumsy kid. I didn't feel the romantic connection between Sienna and Crispin although they have a lot history together. Just didn't feel the excitement for this novel.

Edward Hoornaert “Constellation XXI” just wasn't for me. Despite immediately being drawn to the blurb and was excited for the read, overall I was left disappointed. It just lacked the umpt to keep me intrigued and I ended up skimming some pages hoping to get to the good part (which never happened). Sienna and Crispin relationship was boring to say the least and the plot? Well I was about half way through and j felt like I didn't even go anywhere. Unfortunately due to the lack of excitement and connection to this series, I ended up dropping it by chapter 9 at 41%.

I love space opera and so sorry that it is not a popular genre so I absolutely go all out for the crumbs that are published. That being said this is a pretty short story and potentially I did not get all that I could have gotten out of this book if I had read the earlier books in the series.
It is so interesting to see how the events from school that haunt both of them have such a profound effect on both their characters. The chemistry of course survives even after all these years. The aliens are very interesting and I really can't wait to see how this series will evolve into the future.

a truly fascinating sci-fi romance. I enjoyed it for the most part. Look forward to reading more by this talented author.

Book three in the Repelling the Invasion series and I had not read the first two. As a result I missed the backstory and world building and was dropped right into the story. What was done in Constellation XXI was the character development. I loved both Sienna and Crispin. They had a past and it was getting in the way of the present. Sienna had a secret that was covered in guilt. Crispin was just happy to finally be back around Sienna. He also had a secret and that one was what they needed to win the war they were in. Ships had quit working and Crispin has found the secret. That secret was putting them in a lot of danger. Great story line with interesting aliens as well as humans.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
