4.5 “Lady Luck” Stars

I want to start off by saying that I love the Hartigan’s!!!! This fictional family is one of my favorites. So far, the two previous books in this series, I’ve adored. This next installment is no different. Now we get Fallon’s story, another Hartigan sibling. And I must say I really enjoyed everything about this book.

Fallon is a nurse and she gets sucked into taking care of a sick Zach Blackburn, one the Ice Knights hockey players. She doesn’t want to, but she’s doing her friend Lucy a favor. She can’t stand Zach and his grouchiness. She tolerates him as best she can. And though she wants nothing more than to let Zach fend for himself, the caring part of her won’t let her.

Zach Blackburn is the most disliked man in Harbor City. He’s arrogant, untrusting, and miserable. He does his best to push people away and doesn’t want to be around anyone. But there’s a reason why he’s so closed off and doesn’t trust easily. And since he started playing for the Ice Knights, his playing has taken a hit. He’s not playing to the caliber that he can. But after the night Fallon took care of him, the next game he plays, he plays better than any other previous games before. And thus the media and fans started dubbing Fallon, Zach’s “lady luck.”

Fallon and Zach had me smiling so big. I couldn’t get enough of their bickering. They were insanely cute and hot together. They definitely complimented the other to a T. I couldn’t get enough and just wanted more of these two.

Tomboy was a fun, sweet, steamy and enjoyable read. I’m happy that the series isn’t over just yet, and we’re getting more of the Hartigan’s. And I’m extra happy we’re getting books for some of the Ice Knights players. Ahhhh, I can’t wait!

This was so good. I loved Zach, he's sexy and broody with a hard shell but inside he's a softy. Fallon is low maintenance, not girly, and has the biggest heart. She's always willing to help others with no expectations. These two were so great together and their story was funny and so sweet.

I want to say that this is my favorite book in the series, but I enjoyed it so much that I want to go back and read Butterface and Muffin Top just to make sure (and also because they're pretty awesome books too). I devoured it in less than a day and I'm so stoked to read Parental Guidance and get more Ice Knights delightfulness! I also hope we get more from the Hartigan clan because I sort of love them. I loved how fierce and unapologetically self Fallon is - she knows her strengths and weaknesses and embraces them. I also love how vulnerable Zach is - he's just a big old softy in a hard shell. I think that my favorite part of Tomboy though, is that we get enough drama for the plot to move at a good pace, but minimal angst (I had enough of that in the last 7 books I read - your girl was in need of a break). This was just a fun, sexy (perhaps even sexier than the first two books?), lighthearted gem of a story and a great intro to a new series that I'm SUPER excited for! 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

It gets harder and harder to write a review about a book written by Avery Flynn. There isn’t much more that I could say about her wonderful romantic comedies. And, Tomboy is definitely that – a comedy of errors … until the truth comes out. Then feelings are hurt, hearts are broken and true love takes a front seat beside the camaraderie of some wonderful teammates.

Zach is one SOB. A loner by choice, needs no one but his PR Manager and Agent. He doesn’t care that the people of Harbor City don’t like him. He knows why he is playing that he’s never played hockey before and it’s none of their business. But, when his Lucy sends over the delectable Fallon Hartigan, he has no choice but to let her see his despicable side to get her to leave. Of course, she’s a Hartigan, it doesn’t work and he finds himself opening up to her, making deals with her, falling in love with her. Very few people know the truth and now she is one of them. Here’s hoping that the trust he gave her doesn’t come back to bite him in the ass.

When Fallon gets that call from Lucy, she knows that she can’t turn her down. God knows that the last thing she wants to do is nurse the most hated man in Harbor City. But, that’s what she does. When she figures out what is really ailing him, she honestly thinks he deserves it. But then the tables get turned and the joke is on her. She is now Harbor City’s sweetheart and Zach’s Lady Luck. How does she keep it platonic with the hottest, sexiest man she has ever known? And, what would he see in plain, tomboy Fallon Hartigan? She’s seen what he likes, what he beds and it damn sure ain’t anyone like her. No way will she become some beauty queen just so the Ice Knights keep winning. But, she will agree to be ringside for every home game as long as he keeps his end of the deal. Let the cards fall where they fall. Unfortunately, they fall on the side of love.

The Hartigans are the best family ever. They can make the most awkward situations into a fun family night. Zach was pleasantly surprised and mortified at the same time. He couldn’t understand how family could trust, enjoy and love each other … just because.

Avery Flynn did it again with Tomboy. It was an unbelievable story that had a little bit of everything from laugh-out-loud moments to sweet and honest ones … from cold and uncomfortable to oh-so-hot and sexy … from feelings of inadequacy and distrust to pure, unadulterated love. Name an emotion and Avery Flynn found a way to bring it out in this story. It is always a pleasure reading an Avery Flynn book … you know that you are going to be reading an interesting, entertaining, arousing story with charters that will steal your heart. And, Tomboy was no different … it was a light-hearted, sexy RomCom featuring a fantastic woman and a hot hockey player. Oh, and by the way, did you see the cover? LOVE. IT.

How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box?

Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF—his PR manager—begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City.

But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.

At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood—or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.

Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic—but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.

But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.

REVIEW

This is the third book in the series about the Hartigans and I hate that the series is ending. I loved this book. I loved this whole series. It had such real characters for me and I will miss each and every one of them. For me, they became like family....they had real life situations and I love that Avery Flynn writes about the real world. She doesn't write about barbie doll girls, but girls and women who are real and you can relate to. This was a great ending to a great series.

Hands down my favorite book of the series!! I couldn’t stop reading once I started! I read in one sitting.

Zach & Fallon have great chemistry and some hilarious banter! I loved that they brought out the best in each other. Zach & Fallon’s journey wasn’t an easy one but worth it.

I really hope the other Ice Knights get their own stories!

I voluntarily reviewed this book.

Their meet cute him dying of food poison from his one night stand her her best friend sending her to nurse him back to health. It is more of hate hate relationship filled with one upmanship and blackmail to get their way. Zach and Fallon are hilarious as they slow show their underbelly of themselves to each other. By showing their true self love follows after a bumpy ride. Throw in some hockey and the player superstitious beliefs and it was a great story.

I just can't get enough of the Hartigans! This book is a standalone and can be enjoyed just as it is, BUT I suggest reading the previous books so you can get to know the family and their dynamic.

I hate to say it but this book has become my favorite out of the three. Fallon is just so likable and real. She has amazing compassion and goals. Zach is a gruff hockey player who is having a lousy season because of a losing streak. When these two are are forced together the sparks fly. When they make a bargain things get serious.

I loved loved loved this book. It had great characters and a wonderful plot. Zach and Fallon were sexy, strong willed, and I just felt like I had a stake in their coming together. I definitely recommend this book!

This was a really great story that I recommend.

Zach & Fallon are thrown together in a way that neither of them appreciated. But when they suddenly find reasons to be in each others company, unexpected feelings spring up, as do their insecurities.

I really loved Zach. He's a wounded, yet sexy hero. He knew just what to do to make Fallon feel comfortable around him. Fallon, on the other hand, with her super heroine complex, managed to help balance out Zach's rougher edges. They were an awesome couple!

I am really excited for the spin-off series from Avery, Ice Knights.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC if this book, which I received via NetGalley.

5 Stars

I have to admit I could not wait for this book! Fallon is as amazing as I wished she would be! The sarcasm, witty one liners and soft heart were all I could want and more from a heroine. Zach was the perfect “most hated” professional hockey player in Harbor City and their story was perfect. Full of laughs, eye rolls and steamy hotness you do not want to miss Tomboy!

Ahh this book had me smiling from ear to ear from Zach and Fallon very first meeting through to the very fantastic end. I was still up at 2am laughing hysterically, as Zach and Fallon deal with everything to get there happy ever after. Plus the secondary characters also made this book one of my favourite all time books and the BEST BOOK OF 2019. This book is funny, sexy and steamy romantic and is now my favourite Avery Flynn book to date. I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this story. This book is better than the 5 stars I can give and I recommend you read it ASAP!! Also this series too as it is addictive as hell.

Could Zach and Fallon be any different. Complete opposites but they are exactly what the other needs. Fallon has spread herself out too thin as she follows her dreams of running a free clinic. She's already running on empty so the last thing she needs to do is nurse a grouchy, spoilt hockey hunk. Being attracted to him does not help but being the big hearted woman that she is she can't say no to her bestie.

Zach has been burned by the people who is supposed to trust blindly so he doesn't let anyone in easily. He's a loner because he has history that he's ashamed of. But right now he knows he has no other option but to let Fallon work her magic and get him back on his feet in time for the next game. His performance is worse than ever and he hates letting his coach and team down.

He is caught off guard when he finds himself drawn to Fallon. She's nothing like the women he's dated and in spite of being a mean douchebag to her she still won't back down. He soon realizes that his game is better and she gets dubbed his Lady Luck. He's finds himself wanting her around as much as possible, and more surprising he's beginning to trust her.

When his secret becomes public news she's the only one who defends him. But he reverts to his grumpy old self and shuts everyone out. Until he realizes that the people he's hiding away from are the very people who are willing to stand and fight with him. And if he'd just get out of his way love was waiting for him to come and claim her.

I think that the book should have been named "Lady luck" because it was more fitting to the story and it plays a more important role than the fact that Fallon is a tomboy. That's not what matters though. What matters is that I enjoyed the book and was able to finish it, unlike Muffin Top which was a complete miss for me. Fallon and Zach were a great couple and their romance was portrayed in a very good way. Both of them were characters I could relate to and I understood them. I wasn't happy with some of Zach's actions because I felt like he needed to speak up and fight, but he was just remaining passive. What I liked the most is that Fallon was the one to groove. Both of them were wrong, but it's nice for a change to see the heroine doing the grooving.

The book is a stand-alone, but it made me wanna read Avery Flynn's new series about the Ice Knights. They were introduced in a way that made me wanna read their books but without making it seem like an obvious advertisement or having them take the spotlight from the main couple. The epilogue spoiled the team's future, but I can live with that. It was a great epilogue and I approved it as an epilogue junkie. I didn't have any complaints when it came to the story and I would certainly recommend it.

5 There’s a Heart Lurking Under that Gruff Exterior Stars!!!

I can honestly say that this is my favorite book in this series. I really connected with Fallon. She’s the no-nonsense sister in the Hartigan family and when she does her bestie a favor by checking on the Ice Knights, supposed to be best defenseman around, Zach Blackburn, she gets so much more than she signed on for!!!

For his part Zach wasn’t crazy about Fallon being there, but he knew if he kicked her out there’d be some serious trouble for him… and so begins this enemies to lovers story that I absolutely LOVED!!!!

These two together had me cracking up at times because Fallon doesn’t put up with anything. She’s very serious about her career as a nurse and has such a passion for the clinic that serves the less fortunate in her town….but low and behold, she’s apparently a good luck charm for Zach which he hates, but the town loves so what’s he got to do to convince her to come to each and every game…well, she has her own demands!

There were moments while reading that I actually had some heartache for both our H/h. There’s some issues in his background that could have destroyed a lesser man, but Zach isn’t going to let it keep him from his dream of being an all-star hockey player. I loved how these two grew closer and closer as the book progressed and their chemistry is sizzling!!!

But it’s not all smooth sailing for them and there’s a critical moment that really is the defining moment for them and if they’re love can survive. I was glued to my kindle that’s for sure!!!

This is absolutely a must read book and I’m ready for the next Hartigan to hit my kindle!!!

I might have a slight addiction to this series. I loved books 1 and 2 (Butterface and Muffin Top, respectively) and couldn’t sign up for an ARC of Tomboy fast enough. I’ll most likely do the same thing when the next book in the series comes out, too. Why am I so addicted to this series? I’m glad you asked…

These aren’t makeover stories:
You know those romance stories where the hero doesn’t notice the heroine until she’s had a makeover and puts on a sexy little red dress? Yeah, these aren’t books like that. These are stories where the heroines are more realistic. They have flaws and quirks and insecurities and aren’t necessarily movie-star pretty with little heart-shaped faces and button noses. They’re more like real, actual women that you might run into at the grocery store or be friends with in real life. And despite their lack of heart-shaped faces and button noses, they still find their HEAs with hot guys because they’re good-hearted, confident, beautiful-on-the-inside women who are comfortable in their own skin. It’s all pretty inspiring, really.

Now, that’s not to say that Fallon, the heroine in Tomboy, is unattractive. As you can see from the cover model, she’s gorgeous. But she’s the kind of fresh-faced, girl-next-door, sweat-pants-wearing gorgeous that you could definitely find in real life. And never once did she try to be something she wasn’t just to please Zach, the hero, or anyone else. I ADORED Fallon for that alone. Her snarky comments and take-no-shit attitude were just a pleasant bonus.

Banter:
The banter in these books is beyond fabulous. It’s witty and clever and never feels over-the-top or unrealistic. It’s just right. Fallon’s conversations with Zach—and her conversations with her friends and family—were epically awesome. Avery Flynn could teach a master’s class in writing witty banter as far as I’m concerned. Plenty of other authors could learn a thing or two (or ten) from her.

Odds and Ends:
It was also great to see Gina and Lucy from the other books again. And also, I know that I always get irritated when people talk about romance novel sex scenes as if they’re the best parts of the books, but...damn, Avery Flynn can write a hot, hot sex scene. Fallon and Zach’s chemistry was RIDICULOUS.

Now, I will admit that Zach is a jerk. BUT while he’s clearly a jerk, he’s not an alphahole. I know the distinction is miniscule, but Zach has some very valid reasons for wanting to keep people at a distance, and even while he was trying to push Fallon away, he never did anything to truly disrespect her. And he was a really good sport at the charity events. Zach has a good heart, even though he tries to hide it under layers of tattoos, piercings, muscles, and assholishness at times.

So, long-story-short, in case I didn’t make myself clear, I adore this series, I adored this book, and I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t take a chance and buy this series. That is all.

Fallon was asked by her best friend to take care of one of her clients who is sick. Fallon is a nurse so she’s seen it all. Zack is a hockey player who was traded to the team he’s on but has played so poorly that the whole area hates him. He’s used to doing everything himself. Will he let Fallon in? Can Fallon be professional or will she fall for Zack?

The third installment of the Hartigans series was a pure delight to read and it book-cased this series brilliantly!

Great humor and comedic timing, along with the charming characters of this series, brought the story of ER nurse and all around sports loving tough gal, Fallon Hartigan to life.

But this do-gooder wasn’t thrilled when her friend called in a favor, putting Fallon into direct contact with the city’s most hated hockey player, Zach Blackburn, and neither was he.

With mutual contempt for one another it was a surprise to all when suddenly Fallon was seen as Zach’s new good luck charm and maybe the very one to change his poor image around the city.

With sizzling tension between these two characters that neither wanted to acknowledge, this story made for one fun read! Whether you have read the previous books in this series or not, I know that you will fall head over heels for the very relatable Fallon and her story.

As Always, Happy Reading!

Tomboy is the latest offering in ‘The Hartigans’ series by Avery Flynn. It was a fabulous story that delved deep into the heart of one NHL player, star forward, Zach Blackburn and the strongest-willed Hartigan offspring, Fallon.
Fallon is a straight-talking as they come, her ‘take no prisoners’ attitude rubs Zach the wrong way… at first, but it’s not long before he’s seeing her in a different light. She a fresh light in his dismal, doom-laden mind. He’s got a past that he can’t shake and it’s turned the game he loved ito a chore, something that shows when he plays. He’s not known as the most hated player in Harbor City for nothing.
So, when fallon’s best friend, Lucy as her to be Zack’s nurse for the weekend, she’s less than interested, but she’s a caring soul and can’t say no to her bestie’s heartfelt pleas.
Zack and Fallon are like oil and water, they shouldn’t mix but somehow they do.
This was a fun, slightly angsty story, with plenty of feels. Seeing Fallon break through Zack’s walls, even when she’s not meaning to, was enlightening but also heartbreaking.
Zack is broody, dark and at times mysterious but he’s darned hot too, so hot that Fallon just can’t resist him and is soon his lucky charm.
This was the best of the three books out so far, it’s a standalone too, so you don’t have to read Butterface or Muffin Top first, but you should anyway because they are that good. Looking forward to the next in the series that keeps me wanting more.
