Psychological thriller at its best. Had me hooked right away and kept me up way past my bedtime. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

WoW! This book has everything I want in a thriller. It's unputdownable. Be prepared to be glued to this story! I won't give anything away so just read it!!

Fast paced and lots of twists. One of the best I've read.

I loved this book, unfortunately for me, I guessed the ending about 60% of the way through the book. It was very well written, but followed a similar sort of pattern to other books I have read - almost like they used the same timeline, but just changed the character names, locations and a few other details. It's worth a read though - especially if you have kindle unlimited, so won't pay for the privilege.

Two strangers. Two lives. Brilliant story that will draw you in slowly. But next thing you’re totally embroiled in these two women’s lives. Absolutely loved it.
4/5 on goodreads.

This was an OK read for me. It wasn't quite suspenseful as I'd hoped it would be but it was OK for a quick read.

This story had a good start but flatlined at the end. The ending was very blah and the story had started to become a little too out there.

I enjoyed the second Vikki Patis novel I have read even more than the first. Vikki has a lovely tone to her writing and I got swept up in the story right from the beginning. Both female characters were strong and believable and there were many hooks along the way to keep me intrigued. I thought I'd guessed a possible twist near the end but was totally wrong and the ending was a satisfying surprise.. The author writes about important issues sensitively.
Loved this book and I highly recommend it.

Constant suspense until the very last page, this one will have you on the edge of your seat, unable to blink until you know the conclusion!

This was my first book by Vikki Patis but I heard such great things about her last book, The Diary, so I was so excited to get a chance to read this. When I realized what a fantastic book The Girl Across the Street is, I was just beyond thrilled to get to host a spot on the blog tour! This one is GOOD! A rare comparison to books such as The Wife Between Us that really holds true for me. I’m excited to share my thoughts on it today!

Where to begin with this one? Isla and Jake have the sort of marriage that appears perfect from the outside. It would be easy to write off Isla as spoiled and entitled, with her perfect hair and skin, expensive clothes and shoes, and immaculate style. Few people ever look closer at Isla and see what else is there…the bruises, the haunted look in her eyes, the shadows. Jake and Isla do not have the perfect marriage, but it is the life Isla chose.

When a terrible car accident occurs on the street between the perfect homes where Isla lives and the worn down side of the street where Beth lives, the two women are brought together. They form an unlikely bond that night, and each of them needs something from the other. Isla needs a friend. Someone to trust. And Beth… well Beth has her own needs that we may not full understand at first…

From the outset there is something unsettled about this story. I found myself wondering from the very first chapter about these characters. Why does Isla put up with Jake? And why is Jake acting like this? What is Beth’s motive for this friendship? What is everyone hiding?

The suspense is ratcheted up high through this entire book! I loved Isla and Beth, though I was a bit suspicious of Beth and what she was hiding. They were really amazing characters, with a lot of similarities despite how different they seem on the surface. There are some tough realities of how many women are treated in relationships in this book, and Patis handled them with dignity, without sacrificing the plot of this thriller! Truly, Vikki Patis is an incredibly talented writer, and the way she wrote about these relationships felt surprisingly authentic for a psychological thriller.

The male characters are largely horrific in this book as far as main characters go, but there were so many wonderful side characters. Jake’s father Jim, for instance, and the coffee shop guy. But while both of these characters were kind, there’s always the sense that people seem to sort of know how Jake treats Isla, but they don’t intervene. Such a sad reality!

But back to the mystery itself—what is Beth hiding? Well the reveal is GOOD and that is all I can say! I won’t spoil anything here, so you’ll have to read this one to find out!

Thank you to the amazing Bookouture team for including me on this Blog Tour!!!

This was the first book by Vikki Patis that I'd read, and I enjoyed it very much.

Brought together by their involvement in the aftermath of a terrible hit and run, Isla and Beth are unlikely friends. Isla, with her perfect hair, perfect nails, nice clothes, big house and attractive husband. And Beth, with her old clothes, cheap make up, crappy flat in a horrible block and waste of space boyfriend. But become friends they do, and grow fond of each other.

However, they both have secrets. We know Isla's fairly quickly, but Beth's isn't so obvious, and is teased at throughout, until the explosive finale. Both women are sympathetically drawn, particularly Isla, for me anyway, trapped and unhappy in her seemingly perfect life. But the story also has its unlikeable characters - Jake and his mother Judith are both vile. And I wanted to slap Judith every time she said 'Jakey'!

The pacing is spot on, as the action and tension both increase as the story moves on, and I found this book an easy, quick read. All the characters are well described and I cared about them, what happened to them. It does include a couple of difficult issues, particularly domestic abuse, so might not be such an easy read for everybody.

This is a book about love and hate, and the strong bond that develops through friendship, sometimes very quickly. It's a tale of two women who find each other at the right time. And it's a story of secrets and lies. It was great to read about two women, defeated by life, find the strength to break free, although I wouldn't suggest following their example in your own life!

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

A very cleverly written book full of tension throughout.
This book made me on edge but was absolutely amazing
Can’t wait to read more books by this author

This book had me hooked from the first page. The subject of domestic abuse is always uneasy reading.
This book does not pull any punches, you have been warned. Hard, gritty and distressing in places. Secrets, lies and so many deceptions, this is compelling reading. A DARK, gripping and in places a scary psychological thriller. Some of the things these two women get upto I find very hard to believe. Surely if you knew a dangerous and abusive partner was out in the street late at night honestly would you be outside as well??? I don't think so. In no way did these foibles detract from my reading pleasure. This is a book to go to bed early or a really good beach read. Almost five stars. Enjoy
I would like to thank the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

I really liked this book!! It was fast-paced and kept me wondering what Beth’s game was the whole time, while rooting for Isla to find her courage to do what was best for herself. I’ll definitely read more by this author!!

It's been so long since she had a real friend. But Beth has now filled that role. They have become very close and Beth only wants what is best for. Doesn't she? Is she telling the truth and being honest with her? These are questions that sometimes enter friendships. Sometimes a best friend's betrayal is far worse than that of a lover. Great book. I love psychological thrillers!

Isla and Beth are worlds apart in how they live their lives but when they both witness a hot and run their lives are intertwined together. Islas life is less than perfect despite appearances and Beth’s life is a struggle. As the ladies become friends we learn more about their past and why they are together now. A great twist that I didn’t see coming tied everything together.

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

Isla and Beth are complete strangers who become friends due to a tragic incident. There is a hit and run accident and the person hurt was a male jogger. Despite immediately doing CPR, unfortunately the man dies. Isla and Beth are from opposite walks of life, however, they become friends.

Although meeting due to the accident, this is rather fortuitous for Beth. She has a very good reason for wanting to be around Isla. However, things about Isla are far different than Beth could have ever imagined. Thus, things change. Actually, things barrel out of control.

Both Isla and Beth lead dark lives, and until they met, were completely unaware. Now that they lives have intertwined, it is rather curious as to what Beth's true motive was and whether or not she will continue on.

The Girl Across the Street was a touching read, especially when a change of course certainly had to happen. With both of the men in the relationships being toxic, I could only hope for the best for the women. This thrilling story, which was charged with suspense, had a whopper of a conclusion. I look forward to reading much more from Vikki Patis.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is a very well written book, about two women who run into each other accidentally and find themselves drawn to each other. The build up to the suspense though is too long – and large portions of the book are devoted to developing the characters in a lot of depth.

The book is alternately told from the perspectives of Isla and Beth. They meet while trying to help an accident victim. They find they have something in common – abusive partners. Isla is married to Jake, who abuses her almost since their marriage. Beth’s boyfriend Kyle lives off her income, and wastes his time with his friend Steve. It is a constant struggle for Beth to make ends meet, and her frustration mounts. Circumstances force Beth to move in with Isla temporarily, and there are secrets which unravel as the story progresses.

As the women get together, they see some hope. The story till almost the end centers around the abuse the women face, their constant state of stress and fear. This is extremely well written, and the mental agony of Isla & Beth, especially Isla, jumps out at you.

While as I mentioned, the book is well written and the events feel very real and natural, the build up to the unravelling of the suspense is too long, resulting in a slack pace for much of the book.

Overall, a book still well worth reading for its story and the quality of the writing.

My rating: 3.25 / 5.

Beth and Isla meet late one night at the site of a hit and run accident. They're unable to save the man, but that awful moment is the beginning of a friendship. Both of them are in bad relationships, although Beth's problems are more obvious than Ilsa's, and both of them are hiding secrets. When those secrets are revealed, they're not as earth-shattering as the book had me expecting. Some things that would be truly awful in real life just don't seem book-worthy.
