Wow, what a good read!
Beth and Isla are two fascinating characters and I really could not stand Jake.
The dynamic between Isla and Beth was very well executed and I felt it was easy to fall into this story and relate to the characters.
I would recommend this book if you like domestic thrillers!
A great read with a twist i didn't see coming! Loved this book, first from this author for me but wont be the last.
Thanks to the publisher and net galley for an early release of this book.
The Girl Across the Street by Vikki Patis is a psychological thriller that will have readers riveted from the start. I was immediately captivated by the prologue, and could not turn the pages fast enough.
The novel is told in the alternating perspectives of Isla and Beth, two women who come together in the aftermath of a shocking hit and run accident. Following this shared traumatic experience, Beth reaches out to Isla, seemingly with a view to establishing friendship. Isla herself is trapped in an abusive marriage with the immediately unlikeable Jake, and is initially wary of Beth's motives. Although the women live only across the street from each other, their lives are worlds apart. Or do they share more commonalities than they think?
Compulsively readable, I could not put this one down, as the tension continued to mount until the final explosive reveal I will seek out this author in future.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this highly enjoyable ARC.
Thank you to Bookouture for providing me with an advanced copy via Netgalley!
This is the first book that I have read by Vikki Patis, and by far the best out of the 9 books I have read so far already in 2019!!
This is Physcological Thriller mixed with a bit of women's fiction and I could totally relate to the book within the first few chapters!.
I loved the writing style, everything was very now as apposed to the trends of 2018/2019. It touched on subjects in which everyone currently obsesses with! I loved the two different worlds that turn out to be not so far apart!.
I totally loved the 2 main chatacters - Isla & Beth- to the point where i wanted to be their friend!, I was completely gripped with the storyline, it was easy and exciting to read, it will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, and come the end I wasn't ready to finish up, like a good series you want it to continue!! Please write a second story leading on from this!!! I loved it and would fully recommend it to anyone that loves a good Physcological Thriller and this time to anyone that also loves a good Women's Fiction!
Very well done psychological thriller. Isla and Beth meet at the site of a fatal accident. They live within a street of each other but worlds away. The two form a quick friendship that you never quite know how real it is. The story builds and builds racing to the final act. Not my favorite of endings as I saw another way for it to go. Vikki Patis is quickly becoming a favorite!
Before I start, I want to congratulate Vikki on writing another phenomenal book. In my personal opinion, this book is my favourite, and might I add, a BARGAIN at £1.99!!!
The Girl Across the Street.
This book covers new friendships, old relationships, lies and deceit, relationship abuse, thrill, murder, and really annoying in-laws. I think we can all relate to at least one of these topics, which makes this book so easy to relate to.
The book starts off introducing Isla, in a very clever way. Isla is being questioned by the Police but isn't in the right mind to answer anything, it almost feels as though you're starting the journey with her. Not really knowing what's going on, but slowly starting to understand what has happened. Then Beth is introduced, another character that neither the reader nor Isla really know anything about. Next person to meet is her Husband, Jake, you are instantly given a very clear picture of the type of man he is.
Straight from the beginning, I found myself hating Jake more and more as the book progresses. Vikki has very carefully written about such sensitive subjects, of not only physically abuse, but mental abuse too, which truly hits you in the heart. You understand the pain and torture Isla gets put through, and can really sympathise with her on how she's feeling. It's actually quite sad, knowing that these types of story lines, actually happen in the real world though is rarely wrote about in such an eye opening way.
As always, the character building is fantastic, Vikki can really paint the picture on the characters she is writing about. Although still able to keep some mysteries about the characters that come out later on in the book (I thought I knew what would happen in the end, but how wrong I was)
I love the way the two main characters, Isla and Beth, have such a massive bond between them considering how different their lifestyles are, yet totally hit it off after meeting for the second time, over the devastating circumstances. The friendship is solid, they share the same experience of trauma and that shows throughout.
I have been very vague about most of this review for The Girl Across the Street, this is because I don't want to give much away about the book, but reading it would give you much more enjoying than just being told about it.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this novel before release :)
