I've had this book for years, I still haven't, unfortunately, got to it, so this is a placeholder review to reduce my shelf for my own sanity, but will read this book
One of the best features of netgalley is that I get introduced to authors I wouldn't have normally read, or picked up in the local bookstore. This is one of those authors. I totally devoured this book while lying in the bath this morning and ended up with a two hour bath time.... This is one of my favorite books of 2019, and having read more than 250 so far, it should tell you something!
Really highly highly recommended, please give me some more!
... aber hin und wieder etwas uninspiriert, das geht besser. Ist aber dennoch ein Lesegenuss, was Plot und Charaktere angeht.
This is the 3rd in a series and they are all incredibly well written. Love the character, the plotting and the suspense. I started this one afternoon and didn’t put it down until 2am. I can’t wait for #4! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy for review.
In this 3rd Kate Fletcher novel, Hammersley has allowed our protagonist a bit of a social life outside of work. Now seeing the doctor she met in the previous book, Kate seems to have found a fitting mate, who understands her commitment to her job and provides a calming presence for her often hectic work environment. Let's hope it continues to work. This novel has 2 main storylines: one a serial murder and the other a personal situation for Hollis. As Kate and her crew seek answers and clues to find the person responsible for 2 murdered women with the same abdominal injury, Hollis struggles to deal with the return of his birth mother and the games she is playing, and ultimately her death. Meanwhile, Kate and the crew go through the usual routines and determine who the perpetrator is. However, they don't have enough evidence to arrest him, until Sam decides to do an undercover assignment to get the man to admit his guilt or attempt an attack on her. While the build-up in Hammersley's mysteries is very exciting, the denouement often comes too quickly. I will be waiting for the next installment.
Third in this unputdownable series.I sat down to read a few pages and wound up finishing the book.Multi layered chilling well written looking forward to next in the series.#netgalley#bloodhoundbooks
Another solid installment in the DI Kate Fletcher series. This is the 3rd in the series. A well-written police procedural.
Thank you #netgalley and #bloodhound books for the eARC.
DI Kate Fletcher is an interesting protagonist, as are the rest of her team. I enjoyed the way this tale circled around the whole crew, and too liked the interactions between the team members. This was a complex mystery handily solved - and well hidden until later in the book. We spend some time in Doncaster, and visit Northumberland. Heleyne Hammersley is an author I am pleased to recommend to friends and family. This was a fast and entertaining read.
I received a free electronic copy of this British police procedural on Feb 7, 2019 from Netgalley, Heleyne Hammersley, and Bloodhound Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me.
This is the third book featuring DI Kate Fletcher in what is becoming a truly great series. Set in Doncaster, Kate and her team are called to the gruesome discovery of a woman's body displayed in a field. She has been strangled but also has a strange slash across her abdomen. Could the killer have been trying to perform a Caesarean? She is quickly identified as Melissa Buckley, reported missing by her husband but he seems to be in the clear and, since she wasn't pregnant, the detectives are short on possible motives and suspects. That is, until a second body is found, murdered and mutilated in the same way. This was a sensible careful young woman so just how did she meet her killer and let him take advantage of her? Kate and her team really have their work cut out, especially since her boss and her DC have problems of their own to cope with. This is an excellent police procedural where the identity of the killer is becoming clear but whether it can be proved and what could be their motive is another matter. Well written, with likeable and interesting characters, and very enjoyable.
Brilliant plot, excellent main characters that you invest in. I read this book in one sitting and I would highly recommend it.
4 and 1 / 2 stars
DC Dan Hollis has a personal situation that is driving him to distraction. He is not sleeping well and can't seem to get with it at work – and it shows.
DI Kate Fletcher responds to the call of a body in a field. The woman has apparently been strangled and has a red slash down her abdomen. Almost immediately, the police match her up to a missing persons report that was called in the night before. Her name is Melissa Buckley.
Two weeks into the investigation, Kate's team are getting frustrated and downcast at their lack of progress. Then another woman is murdered in the same fashion as Melissa Buckley. Chloe was a quiet and careful woman, so how could she have attracted the killer? The police find a connection between Chloe, Melissa and the fertility clinic they visited.
When another woman is murdered, it throws the investigation into confusion. The team has several suspects, but which one is the killer! Has he, or she, done this before?
The identity of the killer turns out to be not so much of a surprise for Ms. Hammerslay gives their identity away earlier in the book. But it was a heck of a lot of fun getting there.
This book is engaging and solidly written. Ms. Hammersley is a fine writer. I have read all of her books thus far and have enjoyed them all. The characters are interesting and the team works well together with only a few bumps in the road. Kate is a good manager and cares about her people and that counts to this reader. This is a very good police procedural and is overall very well done.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for forwarding to me a copy of this very fine book for me to read, enjoy and review.

Can Kate catch this serial killer,, he’s very methodical and takes no chances, Kate and her team are up against a cliock ticking and everyone knows it. However Kate’s not the type to let someone get the better of her. Oh no far from it, when she has a bit in her teeth nothin and I do mean nothing will get in her way, with plenty of obstacles obstuctiny her I. One way or another. Her and her team will not let it go despite the consequences to her really gripping.
