Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent was a quick read---mainly because I couldn't put it down. The novel is told from two perspectives: Wren, a nineteen year old growing up in a cabin and caring for her sister, and Nicolette, a woman unable to have children who believes her husband is unfaithful. As the novel unfolds, the characters come together in an unexpected manner. Overall, this novel kept me guessing. I look forward to reading more works by Kent!

I recently finished reading "The Stillwater Girls" by Minka Kent, and it was an intense, gripping experience from start to finish. The story centers around Wren and Sage, two sisters who have been raised in complete isolation in a cabin deep in the woods of upstate New York. Their mother takes their youngest sister, Evie, to get medical help but never returns, leaving Wren and Sage alone to survive.

The book does a fantastic job of building an eerie and suspenseful atmosphere. The descriptions of their isolated life and the harsh winter conditions made me feel their desperation and fear. As months pass and supplies dwindle, the tension escalates. When a stranger shows up claiming to be looking for their mother, the sense of danger becomes palpable. This stranger's arrival forces the sisters to confront their biggest fear—leaving the safety of their forest.

Wren is a compelling protagonist. Her mix of strength and vulnerability makes her relatable and sympathetic. The dynamic between Wren and Sage adds depth to the story, showcasing their bond and the strain of their dire situation. The plot twists are well-executed, keeping me guessing until the very end. I especially enjoyed the shift in perspective when the girls venture beyond the forest and discover a house that holds shocking truths about their past.

The narrative is fast-paced and filled with suspense, making it hard to put down. The themes of survival, trust, and uncovering dark secrets are handled deftly, making this psychological thriller a must-read. If you enjoy stories that keep you on the edge of your seat with unexpected twists, "The Stillwater Girls" is definitely worth picking up.

This was a great book! Thanks to #netgalley and the publisher for providing access to the ARC. This book has some great twists and turns and while some were a little predictable, it still left me guessing and had some surprises!

The story about three girls being raised in the woods by their mom alternates with another story of a couple in the midst of some marital woes. Without giving anything away, I want to say that I really liked the characters Sage and Wren and was shocked by the conclusion at what was revealed about all three girls, but especially Evie.

Highly recommend!

Couldn't put this down! I haven't read a thriller in quite a while and this one had so many twists and turns. It was a bit predictable and eyebrow-raising in parts but overall I had a great time reading this. Also, loved the short length of this, perfect amount of time to get invested without the story dragging on.

Gripping, enthralling and heart wrenching. Minka Kent is such a pro at writing intense and incredible psychological suspense. This story had my attention constantly until I finished. I didn’t know what to expect as the words unfolded. As always with Kent novels, I’m blown away.

Thank you, Minka Kent, Thomas & Mercer, & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.

This novel by Minka Kent was written with 2 narrators, Wren and Nicolette, you wonder how their different lives will weave together and will be surprised of the ending.
The Stillwater Girls, sisters Sage and Wren are left alone in a cabin in the woods when their mother leaves them to go get help for their sister Evie. The girls are left to fend for themselves and are forced to break the rule they have grown up with to leave the forest. Nicolette is struggling to live a happy life with her famous photographer husband, and she desperately wants to have children.
How do these two different storylines weave together into a suspenseful, vivid, compelling story? You will just have to pick it up and read it!

2 stars

This storyline pushed my eye-rolling to the extreme! The plot is highly unrealistic but easy to get lost within.

This novel started off strong and intriguing with one narrative sharing the voice of sisters living off-the-grid in the woods, unaccustomed to real world living. We follow their lives and struggles once their mother goes missing. I found the writing of their perspective highly atmospheric, emotion-stirring and easy to get lost within. The other narrative explores a marriage falling apart after not being able to bear children. That plot line felt forced at times as the dialogue often lacked natural ease. The sisters perspective was much more interesting and connectable for me. I was invested in their journey and rooting for them.

As the story progresses, suspension of disbelief is needed as there are several plot points that are unrealistic. This is often a turn off for me, but I was invested enough in the sisters journey to follow it through. Unfortunately the major plot twist that happens around 80% is so extremely ridiculous and cringe-worthy that I immediately lost any sort of connection I had. I skim read the rest. I thought about giving this 1.5 stars but I did enjoy certain pieces of the first 80% so I’m settling at 2 stars.

Overall, this was not a winner for me. I did enjoy certain aspects of the writing so I would give this author another chance with the hopes that her storylines are more believable.

Thank you to the publisher for my review copy!

**3.5 stars**

The Stillwater Girls is a mystery-thriller with dual narrators, Wren and Nicolette. At the beginning the short chapters with 2 narrators is jarring but the story moves along quickly and comes together. It was a decent read, I liked it. I was surprised by one aspect near the end and I liked the ending. I recommend this if you like family oriented thrillers. This was my first book by Minka Kent and I’d read another of her books.

**Thanks to the author, publisher p, and NetGalley for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review.**

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Told in alternating chapters by Wren, a young woman raised by her mother hidden in the forest and taught to fear the outside world, and Nicolette, a suburban wife who is discovering that her perfect husband is hiding things from her.

This thriller has lots of twists and turns. I definitely recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free ARC of the Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kent weaves both sides of the story together so beautifully to give the book an emotion that I have not felt in a while.

Sage and Wren are two sister that are waiting for their mother to come home. They grew up away from the outside world and are perfectly happy living in their own little secluded world.

Nicolette is the housewife of a photographer that travels the world and she is absolutely in love with him. Until she finds a picture of a young girl in his sock drawer. She is worried and tries to figure out who this little girl, who looks exactly like her husband, is and why her husband is hiding this picture.

The story is beautiful told and the twists in the book had me not wanting to put it down.

I liked Stillwater Girls, but I had a hard time getting into it. The writing didn't really captivate me and the dialogue sounded unnatural. Setting was unique and I thought the plot twist was a surprise.
