Liked meeting Madison and Conner and their relationship and making the guesthouse good again. Others like Laura from sprinkles and the only guest Stanley trying to help out and help with Madison's plans and Finn who gave a friendly ear to Conner. Dee the cook and Amy getting back with boyfriend Jaime and helping to get things ready for the grand opening of the café. David was a snake who I didn't like and Sophia who was too good for him even helped Madison. Conner and Madison found their happy ending was great an ah moment
I LOVED this book. Such a nice read. I cannot help but want to dive back in. I hope there is a Christmas catch up story.
So many good characters and the descriptions of the island is fantastic.
Love love love.
Cannot wait to read more by this author
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was an okay fluff read that was a bit too predictable for my liking.
Madison is someone who has always struggled to find a place to call home, but the place that settles her the most is the guesthouse of the title. With the help of her friends and the island's community, she begins to develop the guesthouse as a tourist destination with yoga classes and a redeveloped cafe, and along the way she begins a romance with Connor, her crush before she left to go travelling.
I read this book on holiday and it was quite a nice, pleasant read. Madison is an engaging character, although in the last couple of chapters, I really didn't like her immaturity or how she couldn't see any correlation between her own behaviour and the way people then treated her. Connor was a good foil for her however.
A nice, breezy holiday read. 3.5 stars.
A lighthearted and feelgood read but something was a little lacking in place. Just a bit too predictable at times. High point was the dog called Jaws!!
This book just makes you feel good...
**OMG! I cannot believe that these reviews haven't been done! I am so sorry they are so late!!!**
Ashcroft's The Little Guesthouse of New Beginnings will appeal to readers of Jenny Colgan and Debbie Macomber who don't mind some added steaminess. While true to the genre, this title is not necessarily of the same quality of Macomber and Colgan's works. Devoted romance fans will love it, but it is not a title that I would recommend to the casual romance reader.
‘The Guesthouse of New Beginnings’ is such an easy going read!
Meeting Madison was very interesting. She starts out in the story by returning to Sunshine Island after a lot of travelling. She heads to The Hideaway, which her aunt and uncle own. She can see from the beginning that the guesthouse is struggling as they only had one guest when she arrived. Madison realises that she wants to save The Hideaway before her aunt and uncle return from their holiday.
In these events we see Madison evolve as a character as she realises just how much she misses Sunshine Island. Can she make a success of her family’s business? Well it also wouldn’t be a rom com without a leading man would it? Meeting Connor was very intriguing, he’s a builder on the island and basically keeps himself to himself and immerses himself in work. Madison and Connors relationship is very interesting and you can see how much it evolves throughout the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and all of the characters that Donna has created, especially Madison and Connor! They are complete opposites in the sense that Madison is clearly an extrovert who is willing to figure out her life. Can the same be said for Connor? To begin with he’s very reluctant to let any barriers down. I loved how the story is told from both Madison and Connor’s point of view. This gives a lot of insight into their deepest fears and feelings.
Donna’s narrative is detailed (of course I want to now visit Sunshine Island!) and flows so easy so this story can be read anywhere! I adored that the sense of community on the island just shines off the pages from beginning to end 😊
‘The Guesthouse of New Beginnings’ is about community, love and taking chances on life to try and get what you deserve in life ❤️
I can not recommend this story enough and you will fall in love with the characters just as much as I did. I give ‘The Guesthouse of New Beginnings’ 5*/5*
Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley
Madison Skyler is a wanderer, but she’s finally decided to put down roots at the Her aunt and uncle’s hotel the Sunshine Hideaway on Sunflower Island. When she gets there, she find the aunt and uncle on a cruigse and the lodge falling into disrepair. With her friend, Amy, one of the guests, a her blast-from-the past crush Connor, they set out to revitalize the place. But can she break through Connor’s workaholic shell? And will their efforts be enough to save the Hideaway Madison loves?
I love a good romance, and this one didn’t disappoint. Madison’s character was well drawn and stayed away from being a caricature. Connor’s traits seemed somewhat forced in places but he was fully realized.
The plot was pretty expected for a romance but have enough depths and twists to be unique. The author had a clear voice that brought the setting to life. There is some humor in it, which I enjoyed and a lighthearted tone for the most part. Loved the ending.
This is a steamy romance with several love scenes, so if that’s not your thing this might not be the book for you. Overall, an enjoyable, fun read.
Thanks netgalley for providing me with an advanced ebook.
I loved this book. If The Sunshine Hideway really existed I'd be there like a shot! I so enjoy the colourful communities that Donna Ashcroft creates and I defy you not to be smiling when you finish this book. A little slice of beautifully written escapism.
An adorable story of being friends, falling on love, and of finding beauty in the ashes of destruction. If you love Hallmark stories, this one will definitely fit the bill as a fun filled tale of love.
What a lovely story!! It’s not very often I like all of the characters in a book, but I have to say that I did in this one. I really enjoyed seeing the change in Madison and see her relationship with Connor grow. I also really liked Donna’s style of writing and it made the book really easy to read. I will definitely pick up another of her books!
What a lovely heartwarming book. It had me hooked from the start. Madison , Connor and the gang make you want to go to sunflower island. Will definitely read more from this author.
I was immediately drawn to this book by the cover. The cover said please read me.
This is a light hearted feel good book which makes you feel warm inside. A fabulous easy read that can be read in one sitting
I love second chance romances and The Little Guesthouse of New Beginnings is a very sweet story.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book is a feel-good, second chance love story. Its characters are engaging and the plot satisfying. This is my favorite beach book of the year so far.
This book is a joy to read, with lots of twists and turns and believable characters. A lovely summer read but also warming for cold winter days. Definitely recommended.
Donna Ashcroft was a new to me author but I really enjoyed this novel. Madison returns to her roots after a life of traveling from place to place. There's an underlying tone of struggle with her will to stay and her will to leave again. Also, her childhood crush Conner resurfaces and could there be a budding romance there? The characters were all lovable and the story overall light hearted and enjoyable. A fun beach read for the summer for sure!
A lovely easy going story about Madison, a free spirit, who is visiting her aunt and uncle on Sunflower Island.
She meets up with her first crush, Connor, but he doesn't seem to be so keen on her sticking around, although everyone else on the island seems to be very happy to see her, especially her friend Amy, who is having all sorts of issues with her long-term boyfriend.
This was a light and breezy story which would make a great holiday read, although it does have its slightly serious bits as well. Yes, I agree that the way that you were brought up does make an impact on how you behave as an adult, as the two main characters demonstrate only too well.
I wanted to move to this island! I hope there is a sequel in the works :)
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
A good story overall. Must admit that it took awhile to understand and like the character of Madison, as she seemed a little hippish and tree huggery for me. Coming back to the island where she grew up, she expects things to be the same, but of course they are not. With the help of her friends, grouchy but sexy Connor, and good friend Amy. Can't blame Connor for not trusting Madison to just up and leave again, so when there is discussion on how to revamp the place he has trouble. Wasn't sure when I started if I would like it, but glad I stuck it out. Good story, and hard to put down once I got into the storyline. Would recommend.
