This is my first time reading Nancy Drew, and I had so much fun! It was very easy to connect with her, and all the other characters even if they were a lot were very distinct. I do feel that I would have enjoyed it more if I was more familiar with the source material, though.

This is not the Nancy Drew of my youth. The Hardy Boys go to raves and buy drugs. The characters are way more edgy. I thought it was a good story and the drawings were nicely done. I hope there are more.

Nancy Drew updated and modernized. This is very good for a grachildhood and makes the characters more accessible to a new generation, but it may not appeal to purists looking for the Nancy Drew of their choldhood.

Despite my love of Nancy Drew as a child, Nancy Drew: The Palace Of Wisdom just didn't hit the right notes for me but it was still enjoyable to read.

This is great for readers who have never read Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys and for readers who are being reintroduced. The story line was original but still had the same feel as a classic Nancy Drew mystery.

I enjoyed the art, and I am becoming a Kelly Thompson fan. I look forward to reading more of her books. Obviously, I'm a Nancy Drew fan, and The Palace of Wisdom didn't disappoint, but it wasn't my favorite interpretation of the character, either.

This was an unexpected surprise. I grew up on Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys so naturally wanted my children to love them as well. The traditional books are fun as a reminiscence for me, but rather dated for them to appreciate. However, they thoroughly enjoyed this and therefore, so did I. We have played the Nancy Drew video games for many years now and this reminds me more of that, in that it is more modernized and changes with the times. My children especially appreciate this. Given that this is the target audience I would think that this is the key endorsement.
Keep them coming.

Nancy Drew and the Palace of Wisdom |NetGalley Review|
fictiveescapes Book Reviews, Book Reviews December 10, 2019 1 Minute
Nancy Drew has been appearing in my life more and more lately which I find pretty neat. There was that movie last year which was supposed to be a modern adaption of Nancy Drew and The Hidden Staircase; and now the new CW show that came out this year. And there is also a new computer game by Her Interactive out called Midnight in Salem; I have missed my computer mystery games. All in all Ms. Nancy Drew seems to be more relavent than ever.

I received this graphic novel from NetGalley. The story-arc is broken up into five chapters which were originally sold as five separate comic book issues. This iteration of Nancy Drew moved to Riverside after her mother’s death; and she returns to Bayport when she receives a threatening letter concerning the way in which her mother died.

Characters have been updated and added to give the story a modern flair. There is some kissing, cursing, and fictional illegal drug references. For example, the Hardy Boys are a welcome addition to Nancy Drew’s crew and George (one of Nancy’s ever present best friends) has a girlfriend (it is never stated if she is a lesbian or bi but both girls seem happy and stay active characters throughout the plot).

If this series decides to continue on after the cliffhanger ending I would gladly delve back into this world. This version of Nancy made me want to learn more about her character. The art in this novel is very modern and easy to get lost in.

This review is short because I don’t want to give anything away. Thanks again to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy.

3.5 stars This graphic novel was fun, but not as good as the previous Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys graphic novel team up. It was a good interpretation of the original novels set in today’s time. I would read the next one to finish up the cliffhanger!

A new take on a classic. This was fun and refreshing, and brought back beloved characters without doing them a disservice. The visual aspect only added to it. Super excited to read the rest!

I loved reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books while I was growing up -- still do. So, having the chance to read a new Nancy Drew story was exciting. Kelly Thompson provides a graphic novel style and updated approach to this classic character. I was eager to see what was done with it in a graphic novel form. Nevertheless, I do have to say this is not my favorite and it really doesn't feel like Nancy Drew to me. But, I am not the intended Teen and Young Adult audience, which I do think will enjoy it and perhaps will lead them to reading the classic books too. That's what I recommend anyway. I feel with this version I thought the story was well done. I'm not sure though I'd say this is for the preteen group and in a few cases some teens might find the story too much in places at least.Don't get me wrong I like it. So here is the story. Nancy is 17 and she is still solving crimes. She is still a smart character and in this story she gets a message that brings her back to her hometown and back to her friends where the mystery solving begins. The writer does a good job with character development with everyone. If you know Nancy and her mysteries you'll enjoy this story and even if you are being introduced to Nancy and her friends this is a fun read. This is a nice modern version to a wonderful classic.

This was a fantastic read for me and an indulgent trip down memory lane!
One of my favourite things about reading Nancy Drew was how smart, capable and strong she was as a character.
Kelly Thompson's character development was brilliant as I felt that I had a real sense of who all of the characters were from their backstories.
I found the writing easy to follow and I loved the witticisms and the art style. It was a read that was so full of life and the characters shone from the pages.
Very highly recommended and a well deserved five stars!
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from the publisher via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I’ve loved Nancy Drew since I was a kid. I’m always looking for new adaptations, including graphic novels. This was a fun new story.

The setting of the story was a little difficult to get used to at first. Nancy grew up in Bayport, and she moved to River Heights with her father when she was a teen. In this story, she is called back to Bayport when she receives a threatening letter referring to her mother’s death. Her old friends Bess and George, as well as Frank and Joe Hardy, are in Bayport, and they join her on her new mystery.

There was some diversity added to the original Nancy Drew cast. Nancy meets Pete, a black boy, who joins her and her friends on their mystery. George is gay, and is dating Danica, who is also black.

Bess has always been one of my favourite characters and she was hilarious in this story. She finally started a romance with Joe, which I’ve been waiting to see for a long time. Bess also knew some surprising information which helped them solve the mystery!

I hope this series continues. There was a huge cliffhanger at the end, so I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Thank you Dynamite Entertainment for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

'Nancy Drew: The Palace of Wisdom' by Kelly Thompson with art by Jenn St-Onge is an updated version of a popular character. It's a character that was probably about due for an update, and it's happened a few times during the character's history.

Nancy Drew no longer lives in Bayview, but a mysterious message draws her back to town. She also catches up with old friends. Nancy's inability to let her friends know where she is leaves her in danger and her friends frustrated with her. She meets a mysterious young man along the way and realizes that she was invited back to solve an unsolved mystery.

I liked it ok. I wasn't a fan of the art. It felt a bit too cartoonish for my tastes, which is interesting because most of the covers are drawn a bit more realistically. I'd also have a hard time recommending this to a pre-teen audience due to some of the content. Still, i't nice to see these characters around and solving mysteries again.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Dynamite Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I don't know if teens today are anything like the characters in this book, but it didn't feel real to me. I didn't care for any of the characters because they didn't seem at least alive, let alone relatable.

I have to admit that I'm probably one of the few adults in the country who has never read a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys book before. With that, I honestly had no idea what to expect here, other than that I knew I loved everything I had read by Kelly Thompson before. Thankfully, Thompson didn't let me down! I loved the interactions between Nancy and all her friends and how delightfully it's been updated (again, I haven't read the originals, but I'm assuming the original Nancy Drew doesn't have a cell phone or a friend who is a hacker). My one main complaint for the book is that it ends of a pretty large cliff-hanger and there seems to be no word on whether or not there will be more Nancy Drew from Dynamite, which is pretty frustrating as a reader.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. It's a fun book for teens, and adult fans of the old books (though it is very different from them. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

I really enjoyed this version of nancy drew. I read one or two of the original books from my childhood but didn't read any more after that. I am happy I gave this modern version a try. I really enjoyed it. The adventures were great. The art was awesome. Highly recommend it!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review an eARC copy of this book.

Believe it or not this is my first introduction to Nancy Drew so I didn’t have any ideas what I was getting myself into.

All I knew is that the lovely Jenn St. Onge was illustrating this graphic novel which meant I just had to read and review it because if all else went badly I knew I’d love the art.

Luckily nothing went badly!!

This was such a delight to read.

I loved being introduced to Nancy and her friends this way. I really got a good understanding of each of the characters and their past. I wasn’t ever confused which is awesome considering I really was jumping in blind.

Obviously George ended up being my favourite; a queer punk. What can I say, I got a type.

But Nancy’s aesthetics were drop dead goregous too.

I really enjoyed the story too. We follow Nancy back to her home town after she receives a mystery letter which leads her, and her group, into a solving a mystery that the cops had looked over a few years earlier that was still causing women to be found dead.

It was great how every character was utilised to their full potential so they could all work together as a team to solve the case. At the start Nancy does want to tackle it alone as she’s forgotten what it was like to have such a supporting team but it was super refreshing to see them sink back into a routine that worked for them all without much negativity.

I really liked that whilst Bess was initially portayed as someone who couldn’t keep up with the team she got Her Time To Shine! Without her knowledge they wouldn’t have made much progress. Aslo she’s hella cute and the crush one of the lads has on her is downright adorable. Very nice page time between the two of them.

We’re also introduced to a new character and even though it would have been very easy to keep him as a bad guy he gets some great backstory and developement which I hope means he’ll be around for a while.

I don’t want to fully explain the case, its twists and turns it has, or solve it for you so I guess I’m just going to have to leave you with one of these title pages because its so perfect.
