I was only able to read 18 pages (I hope I wasn't missing anything) but I liked what I read. The graphic novel is about two friends who are about to spend their last day working together before college. On this last days Deja is going to help her friend Josiah talk to the girl of his dreams. I have a feeling we're going to be in for an adventure.
As far as a quick sampler goes (16 pages), I am ready to finish the book! Josiah is such a cute character, and I already love his best friend Deja. Rainbow Rowell can do no wrong, and the illustrations are phenomenal!!
This was only a sampler with 18 pages. Though it was adorable, I already love the characters, and it did leave me wanting more, how exactly am I supposed to rate accurately this graphic novel solely on 18 pages? I love Rainbow Rowell's work and I adore Faith Erin Hicks' art, so I'll rate a five-stars on the faith that I won't be let down by two amazing talents.
However, I'm very disappointed that I requested a full ARC and only received a teaser. I have two questions.
1. Is only the teaser being released until the publication date?
2. If a full ARC of PUMPKINHEADS is in the cards, will reviewers (already in possession of the teaser) have to request for it again?
I'm in love with the art in this graphic novel! Can not not wait for the full book, the storey is irresistible.
I didn't realize this was just a preview! Seems like a fun setup. I'm looking forward to reading this story before the school year begins!
This book was painfully adorable! I can't wait to get my hands on the full copy. It's beautifully illustrated and just looks like a lot of fun. I loved seeing the diversity just in this sample without it being a focal point, and the friendship is cute. The word play is also great, and I just can't wait.
Even though this was only a preview, I love the art style and the characters so far. I cannot wait to dive into the full book when it comes out in the summer.
Ahhh!! Just an excerpt?!?!? August cannot get here fast enough! With the dynamic duo of Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks this is sure to be a hit! I'm already more than intrigued and can't wait to see what adventures Josiah and Deja get into.
In this excerpt of Pumpkinheads, we meet Deja and Josiah, two friends working at a pumpkin patch for the last season before they leave for college.
The illustrations are great and the characters seem to be developing, something I think is harder to do in a graphic novel where there's no narration or inner monologue. I'd definitely be interested to read the rest of this story!
This is an excerpt from a graphic novel about two friends who work at a fall festival. It's their last day and Deja is trying to convince her friend Josiah to gather his courage and finally talk to the girl he's been crushing on for three years. The excerpt ends before we see any real action. I would be interested in reading more.
I adored this fun, fall story about friendship and love. Rainbow Rowell's dialogue always makes me laugh and the characters feel so real. Her characters always have the best friendships that makes me wish I could be their friend too. The illustrations show the perfect fall setting and I loved the colors and details included. I'll be recommending this to many of my teens at the library this fall.
I can't wait to read more of Pumpkinheads. This preview grabbed my attention and left me yearning for autumn.
The ARC I received for free via Netgalley only had eighteen pages, but it was promising . I'm not sure if my reader was malfunctioning, but I tried. I'll find out about the rest when I get the published copy.
I'm sorry but I can't provide an honest evaluation of this book based on only 18 pages, nor can I be expected to say whether or not I would adopt it for a class.
Crisp illustrations! Easy to follow as the panels aren't full of overwhelming illustrations and text. Can't wait to see what happens to Josiah on his mission to finally talk to the girl he has a crush on at the pumpkin patch!
This looks like it is going to be an adorable graphic novel! The are style is clean and doesn’t get in the way or make it difficult to know what is going on and there is enough context in text that the reader doesn’t have to work overhard to keep up. Even readers new to graphic novels will feel comfortable picking this up and jumping in. I look forward to getting to see how this story plays out!
This would be perfect to read during the Fall season. I can’t wait to read more about Deja and Josiah. I need the complete book! I’m so hooked and kind of sad that it’s only a teaser.
Rainbow Rowell is the queen of adorable contemporary teen romances, and I'm so excited to see that in comic form! The 18 page preview I saw looks very promising, although I wish Netgalley and FirstSecond did a better job denoting it as a preview and not the full text.
Adorable, cartoony, and full of nostalgic pumpkin patch feelings. Two pumpkin patch employees argue over whether one of them should finally talk to his crush - a girl he's obsessed over for years and never spoken to. It's set up to be a delightful rom-com, and knowing Rainbow Rowell, it will be.
The art is very cute and contemporary - it reminds me of Giant Days.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I was lucky enough to get to read this short graphic novel by Rainbow Rowell. It’s a sweet story that I can’t wait to see continue.
