This book was adorable. I loved the art work and the story was super cute. It had me wishing for Autumn to come quicker
The Nebraska Tourism Commission needs to incorporate this story into its current ad campaign "Nebraska. Honestly, it's not for everyone".
In this graphic novel, coworkers, Josiah and Deja search for love in their workplace; a local pumpkin patch near Omaha. With its vivid descriptions of the sights, sounds, scents and tastes; it will leave you wanting to visit a Nebraska pumpkin patch this fall to listen to a John Denver cover band or to taste the freeto pie, pumpkin bombs, succatosh and more.
This book was provided to me for free through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Super super cute! Give it to all the fall-loving romantics in your life. I bought it for my home and for my school!
A fun romp through a unique setting, though I could have done without the ending, which felt a little forced. Loved the LGBTQIA rep.
I'm going back and reviewing some of the ARCs I was given access to awhile ago. But I LOVE Pumpkinheads. I've bought it for lots of libraries and have nominated it for local lists. I think it's light and fun, but has representation that isn't an issue. There are things like body positivity, race, and identity that are important parts of the story, but it never says it specifically. I think students right now can use a book like this, where things are normalized and wonderful.
This book is adorable and was a major hit at my library. You can't go wrong with this author/artist duo at the helm.
This is a sweet story that shows the importance of self-acceptance and the tenderness of first love. It is very atmospheric and is a great read to celebrate the joy of autumn. In this graphic novel, we get to know Josiah and Deja who have become good friends while doing seasonal work together at a pumpkin patch. We get to join them on all of the adventures they experience while Deja tries to get Josiah to be brave enough to talk with his crush before the season ends. While this one is not as complex as many of Rainbow Rowell's brilliant books, it is very inviting for young readers and would work well for reluctant readers, and it is a great seasonal read.
Can it just be fall already? Because this book makes we want to carve a pumpkin and eat a caramel apple, STAT.
This book follows Josie and Deja as they try to check off items on their pumpkin patch bucket list before the end of their last night working there. The art style is wonderful and shows the perfect Halloween night, and Rainbow Rowell's dialogue adds to this. There is a section where Josie is talking about how fall smells, and that's something that art can't quite capture, but the dialogue did beautifully.
I loved following Josie and Deja's adventures through the night, as things got more and more ludicrous. It has the soul of a true autumn-lover like myself, and it's full of silly shenanigans and heartfelt moments alike.
This was the perfect book to read in the fall. A cute story about crushes, good friends, and good times.
Deja and Josiah have worked at the Pumpkin Patch the past three years. They're seasonal friends and they know this is their last year together so they have to make it memorable. Rainbow Rowell writes the best stories and the illustrations in this graphic novel tell even more than she wrote. I generally don't read graphic novels, but when this arrived in my library, I had to pick it up and read it! Friendship and knowing that you're moving on is tough--seeing how others navigate this time in life helps you feel better about how you're going to manage it.
In this charming graphic novel, perennial pumpkin patch workers and best friends Josiah and Deja realize it is their very last shift to work at their beloved fall festival before they head off to college. And though Josie is wallowing a bit about leaving a place, a time, and friends that he truly loves, Deja won’t let him spend their last night at work in a funk. And so she plans an adventurous evening for the two of them to explore all the sights and sounds at the fair, but most especially for Josie to finally talk to his cute crush at the Fudge Shoppe.

Loved, loved, loved this book! Such a cute story. I loved the story along with the illustrations. I love seeing unique characters in a unique setting and this is exactly what I was given.

Beautiful illustrations and a sweet love story make this one of my favorite books I've read lately. I really enjoyed the evening-long search for his crush and now I desperately need to find a pumpkin patch like this one. Way better than the fair.
This was only a preview, but it started off good! Rainbow is always a popular bet with adults and it will be interesting to see if this is the title that teens are interested in first.
The outcome of the story is somewhat predictable, but I enjoyed spending time with these two, so I didn’t mind that much of the plot was waiting for the resolution to arrive, as we see a ton of neat attractions and silly food items along their journey. It’s a fun trip around the park, with astounding art by Hicks. She does a fabulous job both with the setting and the expressive characters, working through a range of emotions. She’s also terrific with action, as Deja and Josiah ramble and run and snack and worry. The art is transparent, never drawing showy attention to itself but carrying the reader along easily.
The characters’ ongoing conversation covers their past together, what they’re looking for in a date, and what they like. The dialogue, as expected from a Rowell script, is real and authentic and enlightening. Deja is particularly clever, dispensing puns and life lessons in equal measure. I appreciated the overall message, contrasting the appeal of visuals and assumptions with someone you can really talk to.
Pumpkinheads is a cute seasonal read, comfy like a blanket on a fall night.
I love Rainbow Rowell so this is a no brainer. The art was also amazing and the story - Halloween, pumpkin patch, midwest, romance between two workers - was super enjoyable.
An adorable graphic novel about Josiah and Deja, two high school seniors on their last day working at the Halloween pumpkin patch. Deja has decided that Josian finally needs to talk to the girl he's been crushing on for ages because it's the last opportunity he'll have. What follows is a comic romp across the pumpkin patch grounds, that ends in a sweet new romance.
Faith Erin Hicks' illustrations are warm, filled with autumnal spirit, and create characters that are diverse, bold, and beautiful.
Highly recommended for all YA GN collections.
I was hooked by the first chapter of this novel after I read it from Netgalley. As much as I loved it, I wasn't prepared to rate it based on only one peek. At last, I've read the whole thing. It is delightful. It's full of humour, charm, references to delicious food, and two fabulous characters.
The setting of the Pumpkin Patch is fun. Such brilliant colours. The search for the idolized love interest is loaded with mishaps. That goat, well that goat almost stole the show.
Such a good story with awesome illustrations. Rainbow Rowell is such an amazing author, and her new story did not disappoint.
