This was so sweet and a perfect October read for when you want to feel a little warm and mushy! The art is gorgeous, and while the story may not be wildly original, it's charming and told well. We purchased it for our library and it's been a hit with the teens.
I read the ARC of the first few chapters, and I always enjoy Rainbow Rowell. It was a fun premise and I enjoyed the drawings, but I was hoping for something meatier like Eleanor and Park. Still, the excerpt was a fun read. I look forward to reading the entire novel now that it's out.
(Hard to review just a few chapters - I like to read a book in its entirety.)
This graphic novel was adorable! A lot lighter than Rowell's usual fare, but still recognizably her style. Fans of sweet romances who like graphic novels with cute art and cute stories will love this.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell.
This is a YA graphic novel of two teens on their last day working at the pumpkin patch before finishing HS and going off to college. Josiah (Josie) has been spending the last three summer pining over the pretty girl who works at the fudge shop, but has always been too shy to say hi. His best pumpkin patch Deja, does not have a shy bone in her body and wants to see Josie get his happy ending. They spend their last night hitting every stop at the patch, to find Josie's dream girl.
This was 100% delightful. The perfect read for hammock lounging during our own crisp weather we are having. The illustrations were beautiful, and the story was so charming. I wish I could visit that pumpkin patch!
This book was cute, but that was kind of the extent of it. I was never really invested in it, mostly because I just never felt the chemistry between the two main characters was actually there. So, cute friendship story with a romance that I wasn't really feeling.
What a fun graphic novel for the Halloween season! The art is GORGEOUS, the plot is so fun, and the characters stole my heart.
This is a book I'll want to revisit every fall. Rainbow Rowell is one of my favorite authors, so I knew I'd like the story, but I didn't expect to enjoy reading it as a graphic novel--I don't usually pick those up! But this book won me over. I also now need to make pumpkin bombs, which is a dessert that sounds just unhealthy enough to be a staple for fall.
I loved the relationship between the main characters, and I especially loved the addition of the goat. The diversity of the characters was also welcome. I loved the unique setting as well.
Just a really sweet fall story about two high school seniors working their very last Halloween at the pumpkin patch where they've worked for the past three years.
A cute story that had an obvious ending from the start. Reading it made me want to find a cool pumpkin patch like the one depicted. And just what IS succotash? I also want to try that Pumpkin Bomb!
A lovely little slice of life book that is full of serious fall vibes. I love Faith Erin Hicks! The romance is pretty typical Rowell, but I enjoy it here more than in some of her books.
Every fall, Deja and Josiah work together at the best-ever pumpkin patch in the world. They may only be seasonal best friends, but that can still mean a lot, especially when you really love what you do.
But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are seniors in high school, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Josiah's last chance to say hi to the cute girl who works at the fudge hut, and Deja's last chance to see all the stuff, have all the snacks, DO ALL THE THINGS!
What if their last shift was an adventure? What if things went out with a real bang?
My notes: I LOVE THIS BOOK. The story is great, the illustrations are perfect, and I wish I lived inside it so I could get a job at the pie shack and be friends with them both.
*Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC of this title, in exchange for an honest review.*
This is exactly what I was looking for. The illustrations are reminiscent of some of the best fall memories including the activities, the sights, the scents and the food. A delightful story about two best friends making the most of their last night working together in the pumpkin patch. A perfect lighthearted fall read.
I think I loved everything about this book... the graphic novel format was refreshing, the author made it accessible for younger teens and I even gave it to my own tween daughter.
A bit predictable but very lovely!
Pumpkinheads was such a refreshing read! I'm a big fan of both Rowell and Hicks and their team up was truly magic. With their fall gig coming to an end, Pumpkin Patch friends Deja and Josiah decide to end the night with an epic chase after Josiah dream girl. With a tour of the patch and all it has to offer, readers get to know Deja and Josiah and about their various past romances (or in Josiah's case dream of romance). By the end of the race through the patch the pair discover just how much their annual fall friendship means together. Grab your PSL and get cozy because you'll want to sit down and consume this warm fuzzy goodness in one helping!
Adorable! It's always a treat to read something by Rainbow Rowell. There were some parts that were almost unbelievable -- he pined over that girl for three years and didn't say a word to her? -- but overall, it was a great, fun read.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and First Second Books for the advanced reading copy of Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell. I can't wait to start this book.
This is the most adorable graphic novel I’ve ever read, I absolutely loved it. I am not a rereader but I would reread this every October. Rainbow Rowell has a way of creating characters you can’t help but love and Faith Erin Hicks fall setting is perfection.
Josiah and Déjà are spending their last October working in a pumpkin patch before they go off to college. The story follows them on their last shift/adventure at the pumpkin patch.
Rowell creates hilarious commentary and Hicks created a wonderful fall setting that projects off the page. The art was the perfect match to the theme and setting of the book. Rowell and Hicks make a great team and I would read anything by them in the future.
Rainbow Rowell has done it again, this time in graphic novel format! I loved this read and teens in your library (heck, even adults) will eat up this fall-themed romance.
This was a sweet fall read about fall, friendship and finding love. Rainbow Rowell once again does not disappoint.
This was a great teaser graphic novel, and I’m looking forward to reading the full length! I’ll be honest and say I’m a bad librarian, and this is the first Rainbiw Rowell book I’ve read, but I’ll definitely be reading more!
