Super adorable ode to all things fall, plus captures those “end of an era” feelings you get when an important chapter in your life closes. I can’t think of a better read to get you in the fall mood - it’s like a PSL and a crisp breeze in book form!
This book is A. DOR. A. BLE. It's the perfect quick, sweet fall read. In fact, this might be the pumpkin spice latte of graphic novels? Hicks' style perfectly matches Rowell's, and fans of either's work won't be disappointed.
I loved this quirky little comic. Such good representation of a bisexual character without making it the point of the story - I love that she just is bi, and everyone accepts it and you're not forced to have a discussion about it. Overall a lovely story, but the fairytale happily ever after ending was a bit too unrealistic for me, so I knocked it down a star.
Pumpkinheads pairs my YA/graphic novel dream team- Rowell and Hicks. I adored the premise, and can't wait to share it with my students patrons. Highly recommend.
An enjoyable read with witty dialogue and stunning artwork. Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks make a great team; I would love to see them work together again in the future. So much time and work has gone into making this sweet graphic novel.
A fun last-night adventure sparkling with romance. The pictures depict the story and also tell their own. Hicks and Rowell are a great team. I'd love a sequel.

Yes looking at the list it seems like there are more pros than cons but...this just didn't do it for me. I as anxiously awaiting this for months and only got a taste of it from Netgalley and it looked so promising. I love everything fall, pumpkins, hayrides, apple cider, the works. But the characters were carbon copies of typical teenagers and the plot has been done over and over again. I wish there was a time when the main characters just stay friends. Just because they are a boy and a girl doesn't mean they need to get involved with each other. This is just my opinion I know I'm the black sheep here.
I was super bummed that this was only a couple chapters, but I purchased a copy of full book and adored it.
I enjoyed the brief sample and am looking forward to reading the entirety. The premise of the teens leaving their jobs at the pumpkin farm and moving on is a fitting preview of what will come in the not so distant future.Thank you NetGalley for an eARC of sample chapters.
I do love Rainbow Rowell's writing. She can tell an entertaining story for sure. Pumpkinheads is about a boy, Josie, who is in love with Fudge Shoppe Girl. His friend does her best to get the two into the same room at the halloween festival. This is just the first 2 chapters of the story, with a "to be continued" at the end. The characters were cute, and the art was great. Rainbow Rowell just pulls me into stories. I do think I'll read the next installment in order to find out what happens to this cast of characters.
This was just a sampler from Netgalley but it was one which made me think that I will have to read the rest. Cuteness overload. Two friends working in a pumpkin amusement park - I kid you not - one hankers after the cute guy but is too shy to do anything about it. And that is about all I got in the sampler. But it is cute. Really really cute. Cute art, cute story, cute cover. Just bloody cute really!
NOTE: I have only read the sampler for this book thus far.
This book looks adorable. While it is super difficult to make judgements based on just the first 15 pages or so, what I read came across as a light and fun graphic story. While there is clearly going to be a romantic focus, I am hoping beyond hope that the story follows the friendship that we meet early on throughout. We need more YA friendship books!
"... friends don’t let friends live small lives."
I really am anticipating the release of this little gem and will likely pick it up if it crosses my path in the near future. We all need fluffy stories in our lives and this looks like the perfect fluff of a book to pass the time.
This review is based on an advanced copy sampler. Thank you to the publisher for providing me access in exchange for my honest thoughts.
After Reading the chapter sampler for this, I immediately placed a hold for this graphic novel from my library. I’m in love with the fall colors, and the pumpkin patch setting. It’s giving me all the feels and getting me so pumped for fall and cold weather 😍 I cannot wait to read the rest of this when my hold comes in!!
I'm so bummed this was another preview so I didn't get to read the whole book. That being said, the part I read was great! The characters and setting drew me in right away. The graphics are great, and who doesn't love a pumpkin patch? I love the friendship Josiah and Deja have, their banter and playfulness. From this brief glimpse, I sense this graphic novel is meant for young adult audiences (it seems a little old for my middle school students). This is one I'll definitely finish reading when it's available!
I love everything fall related so I was excited to start this graphic novel. The art style is great, I've read a few of Faith Erin Hick's other graphic novels and I really enjoyed them. I really loved our two main characters, Josiah and Deja, and I'm interested to see what adventures they get up to in the rest of the book. I'll definitely be picking it up.
A really cute little sampler - interesting premise, the characters seem fun and layered, and the scene is being set well. Hard to say if I would continue to like it upon continuing to read, but the sampler is quite a nice little taste (like with pie), and I'm definitely intrigued.
So ready for the fall season with what looks like is going to be a delightful romp. The atmosphere set up in this is great, you can almost smell the crisp fall air. Since it is just the first 18 pages I can’t speak for how the book progresses but I am excited to see where it goes from the bit seen so far.
This graphic novel will be one that highlights the joys of friendship and the many forms of friendship. It will make readers think about making the most of their relationships and taking risks. Beautiful illustrations, I can't wait to read and share with students.
Great choice for my middle school library! My students love Rowell for Eleanor and Park AND are mad for graphic novels.
Deja and Josaiah have been working in the same pumpkin patch since they were freshmen in high school, and say goodbye to each other every year until next fall. This year is different because it's their senior year, and they know their lives will change when they go to college next year. Josiah feels very sad, but Deja wants their last night in the pumpkin patch to be fun and upbeat rather than melancholy.
