This one took awhile for me to get into. Not much happens for the first 50 percent of the book; V and Claire dance around each other for awhile before finally being honest with themselves. I didn't like that Claire and V didn't feel an intense pull towards the other; it was there a bit, but they didn't fight for it enough in the beginning. They both actually came across as a bit whiny and a bit weak. I also didn't like that Claire was dating some other guy and was letting him treat her poorly. I also never liked that whole blog thing. The romance does still have sweet moments though and I still enjoy the dragon shifter aspect. There's also still tons of rehashing; the Ulrick story is finished, do we still need it in full detail. I suppose it's good if you are new to the series, but after reading multiple books already it gets annoying. It did start picking up the last 50 percent because the dragons, Rhi, etc. are finally going after the evil Light Queen. This storyline has been happening since forever ago in this series, so I was excited! I was happy after reading this book because it seemed like the next book would be the book that we finally get the story of Con and/or Rhi, but unfortunately, it's about another dragon. Sigh. I still really enjoy this series and this is an entertaining book. I gave it a 3 rating because I've enjoyed other books in this series more and gave those a 4 rating, so this one ended up with a 3. Still good; just not as good as some other books in this series. I'm so hoping that Con/Rhi will finally have their story(ies) very soon.
One of the best paranormal romance series ever written, the Dragon Kings are back and I, for one, am positively giddy with excitement! This time we have the love story of two characters whom we are already very familiar with - V and Claire.
In the previous book of the series, we had witnessed V finally reuniting with his missing sword. However, it seems that the reunion hasn’t gone as hoped and V still hasn’t been able to reconnect with his sword- at least not in the way that matters. He is on the verge of going back into his mountain and going back to sleep when he finds a reason to return to life. A reason that has the power to even bring a being like a Dragon King to his knees- love.
If there is one thing that Claire is an expert at, it is failed relationships and awful first dates. She is on the verge of losing hope and giving up on love when she sets her heart free and falls for the enigmatic V. Yes, she knows all about the Dragon Kings but has kept her silence. After seeing her best friend fall in love with one and the happiness that she has found in his arms, there is nothing more that she wants than to have the same passion and love.
Will fate finally smile down at these two and give them a love worthy of a romance?
With its myriad of supernatural beings, this series never fails to deliver. And love of the paranormal kind isn’t the only thing that this series delivers in spades. With a King of Kings who has lost his mysterious lover, a light fae Queen who is anything but light and a mysterious and sassy fae who seems to be the most sought after supernatural of the realm, this series never gets boring or dull. But be warned, this book ends in a very exciting cliffhanger... can’t wait for the next book of the series!!!
Having never read any other book in this series, I can definitely see why it has captivated so many. The premise for this story is unlike any other I’ve read before, it gave me such Game of Thrones vibes mainly because of the dragon part. Overall those the romance and mates part was so different and I just got so captivated into this world. I don’t know if I want to catch up on all the books before and after this one (14+ books!) since there are just too many books on my list but this is definitely one series that I’ll eventually want to read from beginning to end one day!
If you’re into supernatural books with a hint of fantasy and romance then this is the series for you, this author is so talented in the world she’s created that I’m sure it’ll leave you glued to the pages for hours.
Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review......
This book had me on the first sentence of the blurb......"Every inch of him was molded as if from granite...and her blood ran like fire..". Do I need to continue ?.......okay then , here's a bit more for you wonderful book lovers.
This was book 15 in the Dark Kings series and seriously I have not read on book to date that I have not devoured !!!! . Donna certainly has a gift helping the reader merge and become part of this story line !!!.....if only I was V's beau (sigh).
Okay so this was V and Clare's book. I was eager to see how Donna would bring these two unlikely characters together........oh, Donna you got me on those little reveals !!!!!
As always the Dark Kings books are awesome and I would recommend to anybody who loves a well written, paranormal romance with plenty of twist and turns !!!
Top Work Again Donna !!! 5 "Ignite" the spark in me Stars !!!
Many thanks for this opportunity xx
Later peeps xx
I just love this series and these sexy dragons. We have Vlad, who by counts seems to missing most of his life and Claire, the perfect mate for him. These two together is like fire sizzling with their chemistry right off the pages. I loved that it wasn’t just them but we saw the other Dragon Kings as well and the War that is about to come. Loved it.

Donna Grant continues her paranormal Dark King dragon series in Ignite. V the dragon king has recovered his sword but it will not summon the lost dragons. Claire is a mortal working for the dragon kings at Draegen and V has fallen in love with her; is she his mate? What are the fae and other supernaturals up to? Read on to find out Claire and V resolve their differences.
It's the mysterious V! Loved it... as usual However, this story isn't set up the way a normal Donna Grant book is. Normally it's romance/action all the through. Ignite is romance then the action starts halfway though. We get a glimpse of characters we haven't seen in a while like Hal, Rhys, Darius and CLAIRE!!! As always a superb read.
*I received this book free from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.*
I have to start off my review by saying that I have never read A Dark Kings Novel before and did not know this was #15 until I added it to my reading list on Goodreads. I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming in the beginning and at time throughout the book because it references a lot of things that happened in the past, but it also attempts to explain them so I do have to give credit there.
V is a Dragon King. One who apparently has slept most of his life. When he awakens bad things seem to happen. No one knows if it's his doing or coincidence, but this time there hasn't been anything catastrophic. Then again, this time there's Claire.
Claire apparently had a run in with the Dragon Kings in a previous novel, but in this one she hides the fact that she knows of their existence. That isn't all she's hiding. However, all does come out in the end.
There a few Dragon Kings who play matchmaker with V and Claire, but putting them in the same place at the same time works better than any could have anticipated. They have been drawn toward each other, but fighting it. Some things can't be fought long. They have one hell of a connection.
Ignite is an exciting journey of love, which just happens to take place on the edge of battle. The Dark, The Others, and psychotic queen, and a determined fae...one can only guess what the next book will hold.
Definitely a BUY BUY BUY BOOK>>>> HOWEVER...............You may want to start at the beginning of the series first!
Having said that.... Let me explain this rating. This author is one that takes her readers into another world, weaving a film through out their mind as they read. This particular series demands the reader have read all of them so they can have true enjoyment of the stories. I was a little lost here and there in this book as I had not read all of them. However, even with this little road block , I enjoyed it immensely! The author writes a superb story that is well rounded out and keeps you turning the pages. I took exception to it being a cliff hanger. But that is my preference in reading that each book end itself and go to the next even if in a series. Buy the book and enjoy ... it is well worth it! .... I was given this ARC via NetGalley. All opinions expressed here are my own and completely voluntary.
As a long-time follower of this series, I feel like there is something comforting about reading this series. I enjoy the world and mythology, as well as the Scottish brogue that many of the heroes have. However, as of late, I have been beginning to wonder if it’s starting to lose its luster.
IGNITE is book fifteen in the Dark Kings series, so there have been a lot of stories and HEAs already. This book is dedicated to V and Claire and although I liked them, they haven’t truly shone to me. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve become accustomed to Grant’s writing so much that I’m getting immune to her tricks or if the stories themselves are becoming too repetitive and similar.
I was hoping for something a bit more with this book, but never really got it. The characters were enjoyable enough, and I always like seeing all the familiar cameos from the other characters in the series. But when that happens with every book, it starts to feel like a common occurrence and as a result, doesn’t feel so special anymore.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s still a strong romance and plot, but too much of the same pattern has been happening in this series and because it’s book fifteen, I’m wondering if we will get a change sometime soon.
Nevertheless, IGNITE is a pleasant read that I think loyal fans will enjoy. I hope that with the next book in the series, Grant can step out of the box a little bit and give readers something new.
Unfortunately, this story did not fall at the top. I tried pushing through and understand. I feel like there was way more information of the series then the book main characters, like it was a catch up of the previous books with all the characters. I wanted to just stick to V and Claire's story but feel like it to much of all the previous characters but that just may be me. I like V and Claire. It was an instant romance. They were great and lovable. I would still recommend anyone to read the series because its great but don't read this as a standalone, needs to be read from the begging or you will be lost. The story is a big buildup when Con disappears and getting ready for the big war. I am ready for the next book to what happens and hopefully its not as much of the back story as this book was.
Suspense and romance. If you're looking for a book that combines these elements well, Ignite is the book for you. This book is slightly outside the categories I normally read, but both the cover and the summary caught my eye. At first I felt a little lost, probably because this is the first book I've read in this series, but I eventually got up to speed and got caught up in the story and now I can't wait to see what happens.
I enjoyed the interactions between the characters, especially Claire and V (of course), and I appreciated how V and Claire always treated each other with respect. From the lunch at the Pub to the (spoiler alert) pregnancy reveal, V and Claire communicate in such a way that it's obvious they're perfect for each other.
The back story builds until everyone is read to go to war, and now I'm left with questions (definitely a bit of a cliffhanger). How will they defeat Usaeil? Will Claire have a successful pregnancy? Only time, and the next book will tell.
Vlad is a dragon king and trying to unlock his powers with his sword. Claire is a nurse and human. These two are interested in each other from the start. V has vowed to never take a mate but he knows that Claire is the one who can help him unlock his powers and become the dragon king he wants to be with his friends. A good read and addition to the series. This book does end on a cliffhanger so beware of that if you don't like it.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
I was NOT a fan of this book.
I do have to premise this review and say that I have NOT read any of the fourteen other books in this series.
Going into it, I thought this was going to be a more epic fantasy featuring my favorite mythical creature, AKA dragons, but unfortunately, I was so turned off by the first few chapters that I didn't want to continue on.
First off, I couldn't get my head around one of the main character's name, V. I don't know why this was such a distraction, but it felt like every line had his name snuck in there, and every time I tried reading it, my brain kept waiting for the rest of the name to show up, but of course, it's only one letter.
And then, there was the actual writing style. I'm not usually one to complain when it comes to how the author chooses to create their characters, but there was just no way of getting out from this mess.
I immediately disliked the male. Everything about his demeanor just screamed gross to me. His attraction towards the woman was a big turn off and just didn't feel developed at all.
Again, maybe this is because I should've read the previous books in the series?
I ended up giving this one 2 out of 5 stars. I don't recommend this book at all, and unfortunately, the dragons couldn't save this one.
I did not finish this book. When I requested it, I did not realize it was part of a very long series. What I did read, the writing seemed very good. I just could not follow the book since it is so far into the series and it does not appear this book was meant to be read as a standalone.
For centuries, V has waited to awaken from his doomed sleep and reclaim his destiny. But this Dragon King—one among a legion of legendary warriors sworn to protect the human race from darkness—must first find a way to win back his sword. Wield its power. And try not to fall prey to his own illicit desires.
I should start by saying I’m a huge fan of this author. I’ve yet to read one I didn’t enjoy. After reading the last book, I was happy that V got his dragon mate. All of that said, the relationship part of this book was pretty standard so I was skimming it to get to the overall story that’s been building for some time, Rhi and Con and their battle with the light fae queen. The author didn’t let me down. I am already impatiently waiting for the next book! I highly recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
They were both caught up in someone else’s game they did know they were playing. V had been asleep for centuries ever since his sword was stolen. The world around him was not one he knew and he felt overwhelmed with all the changes. Claire has an endless amount of relationship disasters and had always been searching for the one. Spending time together was more than they ever imagined that finally brought peace they had been searching for.
I am not sure where to begin. I guess I should start by confessing I have been patiently waiting for V or Vlad's story. He was a bit of a mystery and I knew when he found his mate it would be stunning. Claire is complex as well. She looks like she has things all in hand but when the author lets you into Claire's thoughts it is clear that she has some doubts about her life. One doubt Claire never has is the importance to being close to the Dragon Kings, even if they think she doesn't remember them. It was also wonderful to see glimpses of the other Kings and their mates. V and Claire are a great match and as strong as they can be alone they are so much more when they are together. I can't wait to see what happens next for the family at Dreagan.
This was such a good book from Donna Grant. It's part of her paranormal series and it just keeps getting better. I don't do spoilers so I'll just say that I didn't put it down and became a part of this world. The characters stayed true to the story and I enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait for the next one.
"Ignite" is the 15th book in Donna Grant's Dark Kings series. I love her work, especially her paranormal romances. This is the first I've read in this series, besides the last Reapers book, which series crosses over this one. While I really enjoyed the story, book 15 is not the place to start a series!
Since I was totally lost because of all the events I missed in the first 14 books, I made the decision to focus on the romance instead of trying to figure out what I missed. That was a good call, because it was a very romantic and sexy romance! Claire worked as a nurse in a clinic with her best friend. She had two very important secrets, one being that she knew of the existence of the Dark Kings, a group of powerful dragon shifters. The other secret? You can read about that one; it added a bit of fun to the drama. V (or Vlad...yes, THAT Vlad) was a Dragon King with a tragic past. Both Claire and V were extremely attracted to each other and began spending a lot of time together; neither was aware of the other's secrets in the beginning of the relationship.
I really enjoyed the romance of the main couple in the book. It began as fun and flirty, then got nice and steamy, then very serious and deep. I do love me a strong alpha hero; apparently Claire did too. Though the story was confusing for me because of all I previously missed, it was well worth reading. Also, I am very excited to go back and read the previous books, and I can't wait for the next one. Apparently a big battle between good and evil is brewing, and I can't wait to read about it!
