WOW! That’s the exact word I said as I finished Rea Frey’s ‘Because You’re Mine.’ This book was fantastic!
The story follows three main characters. Lee, her best friend, Grace and her son’s tutor, Noah. It’s told in alternating points of view and past and present. Mason, Lee’s son, was a highlight of the story and I loved reading about his personality. All of the characters were developed and written so well, that I felt like I knew them in real life.
We start to slowly learn that all 3 are keeping secrets. I guessed most of the secrets early on, but it didn’t take away from the story. If anything, it made the story better and set the scene for that shocking ending.
My heart broke at reading the ‘past’ chapters. These characters have experienced a lot of heartache and tragedy and I truly felt for them. The pain that the author described was so raw and real, that I felt I was right there experiencing it with them.
The ending! My goodness, that ending! I never saw it coming and had to reread it, to make sure I read it right! It was incredible!! What a wonderful story!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for sending me an early reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review!
Omgosh y'all! The edge of your seat, can't get enough of this page turner! The twists and turns and even thinking, oh yeh I knew that, until THE END!! Grand slam home run! I loved Not My Daughter and this is just wow; even better! Rea Frey you made my reading day!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the ARC
This was awesome! I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was! I couldn’t put it down! In a way it reminded me of like a Jodi Picoult novel and I loved it! It held my interest and so emotional reading it! I give this 5 stars all the way!!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Another great suspense book by Rea Frey! Honestly she is one of the best writers that I have read in a while. She is able to really bring you into her books and make you feel a part of it.
Lee is a single mom and her best friend convinces her to go on a girls weekend which turns into a nightmare. This book really keeps you guessing!
This book was a thrilling ride from start to finish. As a mother, I understand the need to protect my child, but there are times when we just need a break. However, a mother's fear never takes breaks. And for Lee, she needs a break the most, but her fears are also deeply ingrained (as well they should be). The writing paired with the thrilling story propelled me from beginning to end in just a short couple of days. These characters were--are--real, and this story is gripping.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rea Frey and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.
Wow, just wow. This book was amazing! I love the perspectives of the three main characters, and how it was written in both past and present. The ending was a HUGE shocker that made me say "holy crap" out loud.
Wonderful book with a super shocker ending. Loved it.
Thank you Rea Frey and St. Martin’s Press for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 Stars.
Rea Frey, the amount of talent you have is astounding. I was lucky enough to be able to review “NOT HER DAUGHTER” and absolutely fell in love with it, so as soon as I saw Rea was writing another book, I knew I had to have it. This book I love just as equally, if not more than NHD.
First off, let’s start with the Note From The Author, Rea starts off this book with her own personal story, and when I read it, my first thought was “wow” I sent her a message, and I thanked her for her honesty, and for making herself very relatable to some of her readers. Make sure you read it!
I loved everyone, I loved that every single character was unreliable in one way or another. I didn’t know who to trust, and I felt like my head was spinning trying to keep up with them. (In the best way possible). I loved he formatting, the Parts 1, 2, 3, the alternating characters, the alternating between past, and present. The insights you get to Lee, Grace, and Noah. It was quite literally the best guessing game I have ever played. This was like a puzzle, and I had the pleasure of piecing this incredible story together.
There was so much complexity to this story, it wasn’t just a simple read. Everyone had a tragic, dark history, and even saying that, once I got to the end, I was completely blindsided, I was for sure I had it figured out, I had even messaged Rea and told her my guess. Happy to say, I was way off course! I am so happy that the ending was so mind blowing, and nothing I could have ever predicted.
When you read other reviews, stating this book is Compulsive, edge of your seat, twisted, evil, dark, creative, intense, thrill ride, atmospheric, etc. It is all of that, and so much more. It is dark, and delicious, heart breaking, and perfect, I LOVED EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE.
Shocking, suspenseful, and wow, I never saw that coming. Rea Frey's story about a group of friends, their children, and a very big secret will leave you with your jaw completely on the floor. Frey's writing is genius as what happens to the character who dies is given to the reader in the first chapter. Readers must wait to find out who it is who has died and must wait even longer to find out why. Not to worry though, as this book reads as smooth as butter. My eyeballs were glued to the pages and I couldn't wait to get home each day to pick it up and read. With a cast of strong-willed characters and ulterior motives, this book is sure to please fans of the mystery and suspense categories.
Thank you to Netgalley, Rea Frey, and St. Martin's Press for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity.
5 Stars and here’s why:
Total book hangover. Read it in one night. Couldn’t put it down. Ms. Frey’s BECAUSE YOU’RE MINE is engaging and well written, but more importantly, she captured my attention from the get-go and I simply couldn’t stop reading. I just planted myself in a chair and devoured this story. There are so many twists and turns, and the plot is tightly woven, that the reader needs to pay attention to every nuance because just when you think something makes sense, bam! You’re going to be thrown for a loop and your heart will be pounding and your head will be spinning. I totally had whiplash trying to keep my wits about me while reading this story! This is my second book by this author, and I have to say, she knocked it out of the park.
If you like extraordinary writing, a plot-driven story with suspense and intrigue, plus well-drawn characters that have you thinking for days afterward, then this book is definitely for you. Highly recommend.
Wow.
That word sums up the whole book. Every time you think you know everything that there is to know, something new and unexpected happens. This book is a page turner and definitely a to be read for 2019. I highly recommend this book to anyone and am not going to read the first book she published.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book as an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Wow.
My benchmark for an excellent book is one that is unpredictable, and this book definitely is! I never would have guessed the twist that happened at the end! While the bedroom scenes are a bit violent for my taste, they are an integral part of the story. Rea Frey, you conquered the “second-book curse!”
A group of friends decide to go away for the weekend and one of them ends up dead. The story starts out with a fall and the reader continues to tumble through the many twists and turns throughout the story.
This story has many surprises and a shock towards the end. I greatly enjoyed this story. It was never quite what it seemed.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.
Wow this book blew me away.At first I found Lee a little irritating at first but with all of her stress it is understandable.I like Grace who is the supportive best friend and Noah who is the sensitive tutor who brings Lee's son out of his shell. All three have secrets.
This is told in in Grace's,Noah's and Lee's POV in both the present and past.Even with the flashbacks the pace remains fast and steady. The twist and turns make sense and manged to surprise me.
I've been burnt out on domestic thriller/dramas lately and this was a breath of fresh air.
I was so excited to read this book as I enjoyed this authors first book. I am so glad she wrote a second book, I enjoyed this book and I will keep this author on my TBR list !
I swear every time I read a book published by St. Martin's Press I discover another author I MUST follow. Rea Frey, I am delighted to say, is no exception.
I absolutely loved this book. The writing was clear, yet descriptive and stuck to the plot, no rambling. At the same time, the characters were fully developed, including backstory. The novel piques your interest in the beginning, then grabs hold and won't let go until it rockets to the end. Ah, the end, I love it when I don't see the final twist coming. Because You're Mine was a pleasure to read from the first chapter to the oh so satisfying end.
Come the first week of August, I'll be telling everyone this is a book not to be missed!
Single mother Lee has a lot on her plate. She has a son, Mason with special needs, works as a hairdresser from home, in her garage, and barely makes ends meet. If you thought this was going to be a typical story about an overworked mom living in a neighborhood she can barely afford while all of her friends have more money then she does, you would be sadly mistaken. When Grace, her closest friend suggests a weekend away from all the children, a girlfriends' getaway weekend, it seems more than Lee can handle. She's never left her son Mason alone, and yet Noah, Mason's tutor is willing to look after Mason while she is gone. Not only is Lee short on cash and always stressed, but she's falling for Noah, who doesn't seem to reciprocate her feelings. A girls weekend away sounds like paradise to Lee and with Noah watching Mason while she's away, even after an awkward declaration of her feelings for him, what could go wrong.
Unfortunately, one of the women doesn't survive the weekend away and everyone's life changes in ways that you couldn't have imagined. Everyone has a secret from Grace to Noah to Lee. The story is told from Lee, Grace, and Noah's POV, in the past and in the present, and wow, let's just say that my life at its most convoluted looks like a day at Disney compared to these three. How is it that these three characters lives are related? All I can say is that by the final page all will be revealed. The characters were well written and are connected in ways that you could never imagine. Several times I thought I knew where the author was going with the plot and while I guessed certain aspects of the story, I didn't see the whole picture.
The first book I have read by this author, and as it is going to be published in August, I think it would make a terrific beach read. 4.5 stars.
Just when you think you have this book figured out, think again!!! This book kept me on the edge of my seat … until the very last page!! I am still trying to get my head wrapped around this story and how it all played out!! This is my 2nd book by Rea Frey and I thought her first book was also gripping but this one …you just have to read until the end. I can’t give it away. Just read till the very end and you will not guess what happens. (or at least I didn’t) It did move a little slow for me in the middle of the book so for that reason, I'm giving it 4 stars. Still enjoyed it overall. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this great book in return for my honest review.
#BecauseYou’reMine#NetGalley
I was asked to review Because You’re Mine, written by Rea Frey. Her last book, Not Your Daughter, was an excellent read. Her new book also has a question of parentage but is totally different.
Strangely, this novel begins with Reader Notes which you would expect to find at the end. This sets the theme of the book.
We begin to read an interesting story of women’s friendships and how being able to confide in someone is so important. However, there is an undercurrent this time that gradually plays itsself out. People are not always what they seem.
Drugs, alcohol and explicit sex play a part here.
A journal is found but are the entries true?
You’ll need to read to the very last page!
The author alternates chapters by time and characters so you gradually begin to see what is happening.
Because You’re Mine will appeal mostly to women.
Rea Frey's sophomore effort is nothing like her first book, with one exception, it's a FANTASTICALLY COMPULSIVE READ.
There are three main characters in this book... Lee, her son's tutor, Noah and her best friend, Grace. Every character is remarkably fleshed out, even Lee's son, Mason. Mason as a character was a pleasure to get to know and I'm so glad he held such an important role in this story.
It becomes obvious early on in this story that all three of these people have deep hidden secrets. The reader is left trying to decipher these secrets as well as how these mysteries connect the lives of these characters.
Secrets are slowly revealed, many, if not most, are guessable prior to their reveal. I don't know if this was on purpose or not but it definetly served the atmosphere of the story well.
So well that it allows you to get comfortable.
Too comfortable.
So comfortable that when everything you thought you knew is hurled out the window and you're left with that "Sixth Sense" moment, it's all the more jarring.
Definetly a book you'll want to re-read just so you can try to find any hints that you clearly missed the first time around.
4.5 Stars ⭐ rounded up
Thank you thank you thank you Jordan Hanley with St Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.💖
Wow! I LOVED this book! Frey's writing is absolutely engaging, incredible, exciting, etc. I really enjoy reading books about mothers and their children, so I jumped at the chance to read this one. This was probably the best book I have read this year so far. It was that good! I was surprised by the twists and turns along the way, and I was so engaged with the characters. I could not wait to see how the story unfolded. I highly recommend this one to all readers who are looking for a book they cannot put down!
