Caroline and her husband just bought a beautiful new beach house, but get in a major fight before being able to enjoy it. She is pretty sure he's having some sort of affair. One day on the beach, she sees a young man watching her home. Not sure if he's a robber, homeless, crazy, she goes out and talks to him. With her marriage hitting rock bottom, Caroline ends up having a one night stand with the stranger, Aiden. It turns out he might've thought more of it than she did, and is eager to stay in her life and be with her forever, at all costs.
The book started out strong, but it was a little difficult to get into with each chapter basically discussing the same situation that was discussed in the previous chapter, but from a different point of view. My interest was held until maybe the 80% mark, where I then started feeling like the story just kept rolling on. I do have to say that I really didn't expect some of the twists, so that was nice. Author Michele Campbell is a great, atmospheric writer, making fully fleshed-out characters. I would be interested in reading more from her. This was a good book, just a bit hard to get into and stay into.
Thank you to NetGalley, Michelle Campbell, and St. Martin's Press for an ARC.
Michelle Campbell has become one of my favorite authors in the suspense genre. Her stories and plot twists are getting better with each novel she releases. Stranger on the Beach is a spine-tingler that keeps you in suspense until the very end. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put this book down, making this book a great vacation read – but not ideal if you are actually supposed to be working. Oh well – that’s the price to pay for reading one of Michelle Campbell’s thrillers!
Stranger on the Beach is the story of Aiden, a handsome bartender who’s ended up on the wrong side of the law, and Caroline Stark, a wealthy socialite whose marriage appears to be on the rocks. The story is told from alternating perspectives, but each person’s reality conflicts with the others. So who is telling the truth? Or is someone crazy? The style of writing is so creative, that I don’t want to give any more spoilers. Just read it for yourself, on the beach, while on the look out for handsome strangers!
Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press, and Michelle Campbell for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure how i felt about this at first. I struggle with books where a woman is mistreated and I originally thought that was happening in this book, but boy was I wrong. A Stranger on the Beach is told by Caroline, a wealthy woman with a gorgeous beach house and Aidan, a townie who she meets eyeing her beach house who also works in the town's bar. While hosting a fancy party in her new beach house, Caroline's husband, Jason Stark, comes in with a Russian woman who everyone assumes is his mistress. He tells her to file divorce and he'll let her have everything, but she stalls and suddenly he's taken all of the money out of their accounts. In her despair she goes to the local bar where she meets Aidan, gets drunk and lets him take her home. He tells her he's in love with her, but from her point of view he's stalking her and her family.
Aidan wakes up one morning in his truck and is being arrested for the murder of Caroline's husband. He's covered in blood, but has no recollection of the night before. Did he murder Jason Stark?
This book kept me engaged and guessing the whole time. I never knew whether I should trust Caroline or Aidan's accounts of what was going on. I ended up really enjoying this. You should definitely grab a copy on July 23rd when it is released.

REVIEW: A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
..
Caroline finally has the beach house of her dreams. She’s put all the final touches on her immaculate and perfectly decorated weekend home and is ready to show it off at a house-warming party, but that’s the night her life as she knows it flies off the rails.
..
Told first from Caroline’s point of view, minutes later we’ll see the same situation unfold through her lover, Aidan’s eyes. This twisty and manipulative tale will have you second-guessing everything and switching sides until the very end. This wild ride of a story is truly all about perspective and I loved every crazy and unpredictable second of it!.

I am now officially a Michele Campbell fan. This book is absolutely insane and I love it! If you’re into stories with unreliable narrators and you like not having a clue what’s happening or who to believe, then this is for you. It all starts with a bombshell in a marriage and a subsequent “one night stand”... and everything (and everyone) just goes nuts from there. So. Good.
I am a suspense nut and the last couple of novels I have read that were supposedly suspense novels were such let downs. But, finally, I read A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell and it was every bit a suspenseful novel! A really “who done it!” As the reader, I didn’t know what was real or not. All I knew was someone was lying and was crazy. I couldn’t wait to finish that it consumed me for days! Great read and I will be definitely reading Michele Campbell’s other books.
I had to stay up extra late to finish A Stranger on the Beach. A creepy read about Caroline who is having marriage trouble when she meets the "stranger" Aiden. Aiden seems like a friendly young man who is trying to escape from a tainted past, but is he all that he seems? The back and forth between Caroline and Aiden keeps the reader on their toes the entire book!
A thank you to NetGalley & St. Martin's Press, who loaned me an early copy in exchange for a review.
This was an interesting book... The premise was fascinating -- lady finds a man who is watching her house, she assumes casing it. Ends up meeting a man, falling into bed with the man during a vodka-induced stupor, man becomes obsessed, craziness ensues.
I definitely found myself scared of one of the characters and sympathizing with the main character. The ending's "twist" was pretty well done & I appreciated that. At times the back & forth with the POV's really confused me though & I had a bit of a hard time keeping up. In the end, it all made better sense, but during it was quite confusing.
I struggled at the beginning of this book, until I realized that the two main characters were speaking from different perspectives! Once I got to about the halfway mark, everything clicked and I was hooked! I stayed up super late just wanting to finish the story! Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, something came along that made me question my theories and proved me wrong! This was a great book!
A Stranger on the Beach is my first book by Michele Campbell and it won't be my last! This thriller was fast paced and very suspenseful. Once I thought I knew what was going to happen, another twist followed. It kept me guessing all the way to the end of the book.
The story is told from alternating perspectives between Caroline and Aidan, both describing their side of what happened. Caroline seems to have it all, a successful husband, a daughter, an apartment in the city, and they just built a house on the beach. On the night of their house warming party, her husband brings another woman to the party. She confronts him but she doesn't believe a word he says. She ends up going to a local bar for comfort from a stranger and ends up meeting Aidan. They have a one night stand that she regrets in the morning. She wants to move on from it and forget all about Aidan but he has other plans. He becomes obsessed with her. She is dealing with her husband who she believes is keeping secrets and now a man that has become obsessed with her, her family, and her house on the beach. I don't want to say too much more and spoil it but this story has a lot of twists and it will be hard to put down. I'd honestly love to see this book become a movie! I give it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Remember to add this to your TBR listfor when it comes out on July 23rd!
I want to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me an e-Arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Caroline seems to have it all. A lavish beach house, a doting husband, a daughter in university, and lots of money. What else could she possibly want? She is the envy of everyone and seems to have the perfect life. One day Caroline sees a man standing on the beach, a stranger that seems to be watching her property. Why would this man be standing there staring at her house?
Caroline throws a lavish party at her beach house, only for her husband to call and tell her something with work has come up and he unfortunately will not be able to make it home in time for the party. Caroline is upset. What could be more important than attending his own party with his wife, and their family and friends? Later on at the party, Caroline finds out that he husband has made a brief appearance with another woman. Caroline is furious and confronts him and this mystery woman. Who is this strange woman and why would she show up with her husband? Confused and hurt, Caroline doesn’t know what to think.
I loved the dark and twisty mystery of this book, and the way it kept you on your toes and at the edge of your seat as the book takes you on a wild ride right through to the very shocking ending of this book! And wow, what a ride it was! There is so much deceit, lies and betrayal, it was hard to figure out who was actually telling the truth. There are so many unreliable characters in this book that it makes for a fabulous book! Who is telling the truth? Are they all just as crazy as the next person, or are there actual victims here?
There were times I felt sorry for Caroline, then for her husband, then for Aiden. As the story unfolds, I wasn’t sure who to feel sorry for, and I loved that about this book. Just when you think you have it all figured out you find out you were wrong.
This book will definitely not disappoint! A great read that was addictive from the very beginning!
Did Caroline meet him for the first time the day before her big party that he bartended at where everything in Caroline's life fell apart? Or did Caroline know Aiden prior to their encounter on the beach and knowingly lead him on despite being married? Their story plays out through the novel mainly being told from Caroline's viewpoint interspersed with Aiden's view along with a few others. Many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end.
Personally for me I found it a smidge predictable and the ending went somewhat off the rails. I was still entertained and it was a quick read. Just not my favorite of the thriller-ish genre. Still worth reading though!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
What a roller coaster ride! This book had so many twist and turns. It kept me guessing from start to finish.
The story is told from the point of views of Caroline a rich woman who seems to have it all, and Aidan a misguided young man from a humble background. The story unfolds with each character giving you their perspective on the same events. I found myself going back and forth as to whose story I believed. This is an excellent book for those that like psychological thrillers!
This book I could not put down. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is as it appears!!!! So much packed into this book. A shocking twist at the end left my mouth open! Lol My 2nd book by this author and I just love her writing style. Excellent book! Thank you so much NetGalley and the publisher for this book for my honest review. Due out July 2019.
This book requires a little patience from the reader. It starts off more like a romance novel, then becomes more like a bad romance novel, and then becomes strange, as the main characters, Caroline and Aidan, are describing the same interaction in vastly different fashions, and the reader gets the impression that Aidan is somewhat unhinged. However, once the story gets deeper into the suspense/psychological thriller plot, it flows better and becomes a more enjoyable read. The ending is somewhat disappointing, as things resolve too quickly, although Aidan does have a good parting line. The characters are well-developed and the plot is intricate. The contradictory perspectives, which seem awkward at first, work well as the story progresses. Overall, a good book to read. I am interested in checking out the author's earlier books.
I received a copy of the e-book to review via NetGalley.
I love psychological thrillers, so this was right up my alley! If you love twists and turns and an ending that will blow your mind, this book is for you! Michelle Campbell, you've outdone yourself!!
A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell is a well written, suspenseful mystery on what happens when a lovely woman with way too many surprises to handle meets up with a sexy bartender with plenty of secrets. Told from the perspectives of Caroline Stark, who realizes her marriage is falling apart right when she meets Aiden Callahan. Aiden's also shares his pespective on what is happening between him and his new love, Caroline. He is a bartender that Caroline is drawn to and she can't seem to resist falling into bed with him to get even with her cheating husband.Their one night stand winds up having some devastating consequences.
One of the things I liked most in reading A Stranger on the Beach is how believable each narrative really is. I wanted to believe Aiden, even though he felt wrong and I wanted to believe Caroline even though she felt wrong. I think that Michele Campbell excels at point of view while still letting the writing and plot pull the reader in for more.
Once you reach the last few chapters the different narrative voices make a lot more sense!!! There are a few characters I am drawn into that I feel like they deserve a novel of their own. Caroline's sister, Lynn is layered. There is more depth there that this novel didn't get into but you can tell she has stories. Jess, the detective and Mike Castro another detective definitely seemed to have a spark there. Would be interesting to see where they went.
Jason Stark does not have a huge role in this novel. He is more absent than present and when present seems to have multiple personalities which only made me more curious. Captivating story, a few surprises, and a good ending!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Michele Campbell, and St.Martin's Press for the ARC of A Stranger on the Beach. As always, my opinions expressed are my own.
A Stranger on the Beach felt like a hot mess from the very beginning. Caroline, a wealthy weekender, sees Aidan on the beach near her beach home. She's having troubles with her husband and everything blows up between them at a party at their house while Aidan is bartending. Then she ends up at the bar where he works, they have a fling, but their connection doesn't end. Then a crime is committed. Was it Caroline? Was it Aidan? Do I care? The book tells the story from Aidan and Caroline's points of view leading up to the crime and they vary so differently it's like reading two different books. Neither one is likable. Caroline is a rich, whiny, entitled person. Aidan is crazy or gullible. Then once the crime is committed the book switches perspectives again to a detective investigating the crime - and she seems pretty gullible too. By the end, I wasn't surprised at how it played out and I didn't really care. I was just ready to be done.
This is what all psychological thrillers aspire to be. Michelle Campbell has gone above and beyond with this narrative, delivering a truly outstanding piece of literature. The characters are all wonderfully developed with unique attributes and flaws that draw the reader in. The plot creepy and manipulative and everything this genre needs. Campbell’s writing is clever and addicting, allowing the reader to become submerged in the story rather than left on the outside as a spectator. Amazing. 5 stars.

What starts as a night of unbridled lust quickly turns into a fatal attraction.....but who is stalking whom?
Caroline and Jason Stark are one of the hottest couples around town. Jason is a successful banker, and Caroline is a desperate housewife, filling her days with decorating their new mansion on the beach. What is supposed to be a housewarming bash quickly turns sour when Caroline finds out that Jason has been having an affair. Angry, hurt, and desperate to get back at him, Caroline has a one-night stand with Aidan, the sexy bartender in town.
Immediately Caroline regrets her decision, especially when it becomes apparent that Aidan has more on his mind than just a simple fling. He becomes obsessed with Caroline and is eager for her to end her marriage. When Caroline refuses, he ups the ante, and begins to stalk Jason, as well as Caroline's sister and daughter. He is desperate for a way to get to Caroline and make her love him, and he will go to any length to achieve his goal.
Then, one stormy night Aidan shows up at Caroline's beach house, and it all takes a turn for the worse. Someone ends up dead, but why? What does Caroline have to hide? Is Aidan really the villain Caroline portrays him to be, or is Caroline hiding a dark secret of her own?
Great book! I really enjoyed the fatal attraction premise. Campbell did a great job of not revealing all of the characters' motives. I truly did not know who was hiding what secret until the very end of the story. Be prepared to stay up late reading this one. I was hooked from the beginning!
