I am not leaving a review due to the fact that this book did not interest me enough to finish the story.
This novel has an interesting plot, put the narration style, dialogue, and character development did not work for me. It seemed as if the voice in Cynthia's head did not quite match her approach, so much so that it felt a bit jolting to me at times. I also struggled with characters that seemed to live on the tails of human experience...they seemed to always be ecstatic or desperate, often from minute to minute . This is not plausible to me as there is so much "bell-curve" mediocre grey that is not explored. I found the dialogue a bit unrealistic as well. I've never met anyone who would use the word choices or patterns of speaking that these characters did. So this is a bit of a mixed bag. I like the set-up and the plot, but just felt the story itself could be told so much better. And last but not least, although I liked the story, the end was odd to me as I could not figure out the motivation behind the way things played out. Thank you NetGalley and publishers for providing a digital ARC for review.

Sam tragically loses his wife and son in a car crash. Nearly 7 months later, still afflicted by his grief over the loss and rage at the unknowns surrounding the accident, he seeks help from a grief therapist, Cynthia. The story is told through Cynthia, who is enduring her own challenges after an abusive marriage and a daughter, Lily, who has distanced herself.
The stories of Cynthia, Lily and Sam intersect and intertwine. A feeling of foreboding skims the surface and kept me turning the pages even though the writing felt lackluster and too conversational for my particular tastes. I feel this novel would have been best shared in a different format - perhaps through diary entries and therapy notes written by Cynthia. That being said, there were unexpected twists and the feeling behind the story was authentic.
This was a riveting book in which I enjoyed reading. Could hardly put the book down! Thank you for letting me read this in exchange for my review!
This is a suspense/thriller novel that while at times is predictable, the ending is not.
I can't imagine what it would be like to return from a trip to find out that your family has been killed in an accident. That is what Sam find outs at the beginning of the book. Throughout the rest of the book, we see his interactions with Cynthia, a counselor/therapist, who is dealing with her own demons and a petulant daughter, Lily, that is rebelling against a tragic situation.
I was surprised at how much Cynthia let Lily get away with considering she is only 17. I would never have been allowed to act as she did to my parents. But time heals all wounds, along with honesty, as the pair discovers.
As Sam and Cynthia continue sessions and as Sam reveals a bit more each time, I felt something wasn't quite right but did not know what the answer was in this situation...until the end. The ending throws quite a punch and was not one I expected. It explained a lot.
This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Enjoy the ride!
While I did enjoy this book and am sure others would love it. I just couldn't get past how annoying/whiny the mother was or how it ended. I felt there should have been more of a explanation at the end.
I did love how this book brought light to what people who have lost go through. Also how people each handle loss and sad life events in their own way.
Big Thanks to @netgalley for the eARC.
What a thrilling, chilling, and absolutely riveting read! Grabbed me on the first page and did not let go to the end! A must read for those who love dark and chilling thrillers!
Will use in a challenge and recommend to the members of Chapter Chatter Pub’.
A must read. Throughly enjoyed. A ending you do not see coming. If you like real life situations then this book is it. I absolutely loved the characters. Neel Mullick did a wonderful job with this book. I will be looking for more from this author. Highly recommend!!!
Thank you for this arc Netgalley.
The author wrote a thriller that started with a bang and just kept going! The twists kept coming, so I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
This book was so good! There were many moments that were quite intriguing and also a bit sad. I really related to the characters and couldn’t put this book down once I started. Very good!
I’d never read anything by Neel Mullick but I really liked it. It was very intrigued and enthralling. I look forward to seeing more from him in the future.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story and characters were fine, good even.
Unfortunately I didn’t care for the writing. The word choices were odd. It almost felt like I was reading a student essay where they have a thesaurus and use it way too much! The dialogue and inner monologue were strange and not realistic due to this trumped up vocabulary.
Please give this a chance as it might be for you, I just prefer a more straightforward writing style.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and FSB Associates, LLC for a copy in exchange for a review.
This book is an extremely quick read -- not only because it's 224 pages -- but also because once you pick it up you will not be able to put it back down!! I couldn't read it fast enough!! I absolutely love the concept of a book told from the POV of a counselor -- and the relationship between a counselor and his/her patient -- in this case her. The ending is amazing!! I cannot say enough great things about this book!!
Very interesting and well written. Very intriguing and suspenseful story line. The cover drew me in, the story kept me interested.
This was an exciting triller that I will not soon forget. Had some difficulty falling asleep having read it. The writer depicts some super stressful situations that have a significant impact on the lives of the characters. I highly recommend this amazing book.
Sorry but I'm DNF it ,it's like trying to read a Tv or movie script , which I'm not into , the story line isn't keeping my attention, I have to re read parts of it to try and understand what is going on, and it's boring , nothing in what I've read so far is worth this much trouble .With that said I want to thank Netgalley for at least letting me try it out exchange for my honest opinion and my honest opinion is Do not pick this up.
I had higher hopes for this book and am not sure what happened. I received a netgalley arc of it and this is the first time I’ve ever seen severe formatting errors. It was almost like a got an outline of the book instead of the book itself. It took me no time at all to read. I did like the parts I read and will look for this in the library once it’s released and give it another shot.
This is a very good thriller. There are already a lot of reviews here, so I'm not sure I have much to add other than -- Recommended!

After losing his son and teenage son in a terrible accident, Sam first tries to cope with the devastating loss on his own, but soon realizes he needs professional counseling. He hopes Cynthia, his therapist will help him work through his grief and anger. But is becomes a sort of physician, heal thyself, as Cynthia is dealing with the ugly fallout of her own marriage and the ugly secrets her daughter Lily is keeping. I found this book a little slow to start, but your patience will be rewarded, as a slow burn becomes a roaring little fire of tension and secrets
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
I wanted to like this book but it was just a mess. Every time I felt I was in the groove and I had a handle on the thing it got messy again. Really played with my emotions. I’m still healing
