I have purchased my fair share of watercolors, but nothing ever turns out the way I want it to, probably because I jump in and don't know what I'm doing. I loved the first half of this book that focused on value, saturation, creating palates, technique for blending, etc. That's all information I probably should have looked into before picking up a brush and pretending like I knew what I was doing. I can't wait to give some of her exercises a try.

I was underwhelmed with the second half of the book, which is the how-to paint florals section. It starts with a flower/plant directory, which shows each flower as a 4 step process. However, step one is already so detailed and looks better than any attempt I would ever be able to make as a final product, let alone just the first step. I haven't even attempted anything yet and I'm already frustrated, because I know my step 1 won't ever look like that. I was hoping there would be more of a breakdown, like "paint this shape" to kick things off, rather than step 1 of painting a rose being "paint a rose." I may give it a shot, but I don't have high hopes or expectations of myself :/

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC!

I have been watercoloring for years and this book was still so much fun to review. The first chapter talks a lot about the basic techniques including paint, brushes, paper and just learning how to mix and use color. This section was a great reminder for me of certain things and I especially enjoyed the information on mixing colors and creating a palette. I am not a trained artist but love creating art. Bible Journaling, cardmaking and scrapbooking are a few of the hobbies where I love the opportunity to use watercolors. Bible Journaling is probably the number 1 place where I love to use watercolors. They usually do not bleed through the Bible pages and you can still see the text through he paint.

My favorite section in this book and the reason I will be purchasing a physical copy of this book is Chapter 2: Plant Directory. This has to be one of the best how to paint flowers step by step that I have seen recently. Most books will show the perspective by using a pen or pencil but I love that this is actually watercoloring painting step by step. I have tried multiple times to paint a poppy and anemone and mine have not quiet looked like theirs. After following their step by step instructions I was able to begin making it look like the real flowers. The 3rd chapter in this book is also great because it talks about the flower compositions. This is important on learning how to space flowers out when you are trying to make a bouquet of flowers. Peonies are probably one of my favorite flowers and the information about painting peonies and the peony pattern made me smile.

This is an excellent book for someone new to watercoloring or for the someone that has been using watercolor for years. I love learning new ideas and how to make watercoloring easier.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

I thought this book would be entirely about how to make flowers using the watercolor paint technique. Instead it was a rally thorough introduction to watercoloring with some follow up details on how to apply the introductory lessons to painting flowers. If you are a moderately experienced watercolor painter, this book may be too basic for you. However if you are new to the medium, this is a perfect how to book.

This is a lovely, easy to follow book for anyone wanting to learn to paint watercolour flowers. It is beautifully illustrated and so easy to follow. The author makes it look effortless and encourages anyone to have a go. It is quite basic so is aimed at the beginner/intermediate level. You can just pick up a paintbrush and have a go. Lovely book, thank you

I've been doing watercolor for a couple of years now, but I still consider myself a newbie. I always envy all those beautiful floral paintings you see on Pinterest. Now with this book I have been able to learn step by step how to make all kinds of watercolor flowers! I love how Marie at the start of the book gives you a solid foundation for watercolor (and specifically what is needed for painting flowers), but at the back breaks down each individual flowers into easy to follow steps. It's a great book for anyone wanting to learn how to paint flowers. Just keep in mind that Marie's style is very loose and whimsical. If you are looking for something more realistic then this is not the book for you.

I'm not a newbie to watercolour but I was still interested to see what this book has to offer. And in all honesty, the cover is way too pretty to pass. And I was delighted to find out that the inside is even prettier than the cover. Love the work which was done on this one.

This book is very detailed and suitable for beginners, the author takes you step by step through watercolouring. You will learn about brushes and papers which is something I knew when I started.

I surprisingly liked the "Getting know your colours" part; I never gave this so much thought nor did I go and play with the colours just to see what I will be able to create with them. However, this part gave me so many ideas

I adored the parts on the diffusion effect and gradation since these two I'm still struggling with. I'm excited to go and use the tips from the author.

The part involving painting the flowers is magnificent! I cannot decide which one is my favourite if Carnations or Hortensia. All the flowers were so pretty and so easy to paint! And I could see where I went wrong when I tried to paint them before! I'm looking forward to seeing the results next time.

I'm definitely planning to take out the watercolour paints out this weekend to create something! Violet circlet is a must for me, one of the most beautiful designs featured it this book!

This is a great book for beginners with the step by step instructions. The illustrations and photos are absolutely beautiful! While there are so many great projects and lessons the violet circlet and colorful bouquet are my favorite lessons. This would make a wonderful gift!

Great book! I learned so much about colors and creating new ones with my existing colors. Also the techniques outlined were fun to try and learn. I can't wait for this to be released so I can get a copy for my library as well as one for me personally. Lots for a newbie to learn here. Thanks for allowing me to preview this title.

Thank you F & W Media and NetGalley for the opportunity read and review this book.

What a delightful, instructional, watercolor book. This was described as a book for watercolor beginners. However, the techniques demonstrated in this book are well done and the resulting paintings look to be more advanced than beginner work. The photos and illustrations are eye candy.
I have read many watercolor painting books but this is the first one that made me want to rush to my watercolor paints and start painting flowers like those in this book. This book demands a spot on my shelf of painting books.

I have always been interested in watercolors and, while I’m no expert painter, this book does a great job of breaking down the art and gives helpful tips on how to create amazing watercolors. With any form of painting, it can get overwhelming on what paper to use, what paint types are best, which paint brushes are more effective, etc. but the author does a great job of giving recommendations on her favorite products and how they work differently. Whether you are a novice like me or an expert who wants to brush up, this book is for you.

I felt this was very helpful and wonderfully depicted with pictures for an easy to follow guide to painting watercolor flowers. As a beginner but having worked with watercolor some I felt like the intro really kind of drawled on and could have been shortened with all of the “getting to know your colors”. I didn’t really care for learning and seeing all of the swatches of watercolors. The rest of the book was absolutely beautiful and well done and just what I’ve been looking for to teach painting watercolor flowers and bouquets. Would absolutely purchase for class.
Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for a honest review.

Beautifully done with lots of inspiration. The instruction and supplies are explained thoroughly. There are a few sections that deal with mixing colors and blending. There is also instruction and advice on what types of brushes and paper to use. The techniques used to explain each type of flower are clear and concise and well photographed. This is definitely a great book for those who want to try their hand at watercolor flowers. The book is delightful. Job well done.

DIY Watercolor Flowers is a very detailed-step by step-guide to flower painting, especially for beginners. The author describes basic techniques such as mixing and blending colors to the actual flower compositions. The end result-the author’s beautiful and colorful flowers-will inspire others to achieve similar success. This is a great book for anyone who wants to capture the everlasting beauty of flowers by DIY.

DIY WATERCOLOR FLOWERS was a great guide if you want to learn to watercolor any kind of plant life (there are some really helpful step-by-steps on leaves in addition to the flower step-by-steps), There are some refreshers in the beginning but I'd basically say this is slightly more moderate beginner than regular beginner guide. The step-by-step projects do show off how various techniques (and tools) create a variety of results.

I am always obsessed with being able to draw and paint flowers. I love them so much in real life that I always try to capture them in my art and can never really do them justice.

Boudon’s book has three main sections: Basic Techniques, Plant Directory and Flower Compositions. The first section gives you watercolor techniques: how to overlay, how to create transparent layers, how to blend, how to contrast, etc. She also reviews brushes, papers, paint of course.

Then the plant directory has: roses, peonies, carnations, dahlias, anemones, poppies, and foliage. She has small detail flowers, too. All of the steps are simple (well they look simple and of course they take a lot of practice to master.) and relatively easy to follow.

The last section puts it all together with some lovely compositions. Frames, circlets, bouquets, patters, streamers, etc. This was my favorite section of course. There are step by steps but not as many as I tend to crave. Having said that, if you practice all the plants in the directory, I have no doubt you can get these bouquets.

Overall this is a lovely book for people who want to start painting flowers. It’s not super advanced but it will get you started on painting flowers in no time!
