This book is a bit of a departure from other books I’ve read by Kerry Lonsdale. But it still contains her desire to surprise us as she tells a story. Honestly, even the ending is more than a little ambiguous, so you need to be able to enjoy a book that is not tied up in a neat little package. Some of the things that shine about this book? It keeps your attention. You’re not quite sure who to root for. It makes you wonder along the way.
Last summer is not quite a mystery, and yet it is. It asks the “what happened?” question very well, but there are no detectives or police. Last Summer is not quite a romance, and yet it is. There are two handsome men who both have claims of love for the heroine. And yet, this isn’t a traditional love triangle. Last Summer is about amnesia, and what causes it, and yet it isn’t.. This isn’t “While You We’re Gone”. It’s very nuanced and demands of the reader that he/she/they do some work along the way.
I’m happy to recommend this book as the good read it is. It should appeal to fans of multiple genres. And......does the story go on? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
I have been a huge fan of Kerry Lonsdale. Her last series still has me thinking to this day. This book did not disappoint!
Another great read !
Loved this book! It’s the perfect beach read! I loved the characters and didn’t want it to end! This is a beach read must have!
This was a very intriguing story that centers around memory loss. There were many twists and turns, some that were super surprising! Definitely recommend this action packed story.
Well written as to its prose. But not an easy book to read or even want to finish other than to get through it. Characters were well presented, one could even like some of them but certainly not all.
Lonsdale is a favorite on Amazon and understandably so. Women's fiction with a twist. I loved the characters, even the ones who turnout to be ridiculously flawed. If you could willfully erase certain memories, would you? is a prevailing theme as well as the notion of honesty in a relationship. An enjoyable quick read with a surprise ending.

I have read all of Kerry Lonsdale's previous books, and this one did not disappoint. What a wonderful, edge-of-your-seat read! I spent the whole book not being quite sure how it would end, and where it would lead. And, I found myself rooting for all the characters in different ways, but most of all Ella, who I just wanted to see happy by the end. All of the twists and turns in the book are very unexpected, but it all wraps up in a way that makes sense. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved this book! This was my first book by Kerry, and definitely not my last. I have to say her writing is just perfect!
This book was not at all what I expected based on the title, but it was a spectacularly good read nevertheless. I expected a tale about love and the beach. What I read was a story of a magazine writer named Ella who has temporary memory loss after she was in a car accident and miscarried. In her loss of self, Ella tries to put herself back together by repeating an interview with an adventurer names Nathan. The story of Nathan and Ella and Ella and Damien is told slowly, like a slow burn or a teaser at a movie theater. What happened between Ella and Nathan is a mystery, only to be revealed at the end of the book. The mystery that unravels is what kept me reading long into the night, really wanting to find out who Ella really was and why she couldn’t remember what had happened to her. Her memory loss was not total amnesia, just a loss about the accident and what had happened to the baby that she had lost. The characters were believably portrayed with realistic emotions and scenes that played like a TV show, with some pauses for me to catch my breath and reflect on the action. I did not identify with any of the characters but I did enjoy finding out about them. Readers of psychological suspense will enjoy this latest book by Kerry Lonsdale.
I loved this, and couldn’t put it down. Fast-paced and thrilling, Ella’s story involves loss, romance, adventure and suspense, and continues to unravel, even after what you think is the climax. Thought-provoking, it leads you to question what you would forget, as Ella puts the jigsaw of her memories back together. Highly recommended.
Ella Skye is a journalist for a magazine but when she is assigned to interview Nathan Donovan she didnt think things would become devastating to her. The story starts with her waking up in a hospital finding out she has lost her baby and having no recollection of ever being pregnant.
In order to unravel the mystery of her memory loss she backtracks to her interviews with Donovan only to find secrets that she never should have unfolded.
This book was one that I had a hard time putting down and stayed up late reading. Lonsdale brings romance, mystery, lies, secrets and deceit into this story. Can't wait for her next book. Thanks to NetGalley I received an ARC for an honest opinion. Place this one on your TBR list due out in July.
A beautifully told story. Mysterious and dramatic. Very enjoyable and highly recommended. I thought the time line of the story was a very original way to tell the story xx
Having read and loved Kerry Lonsdales' Everything series, I was eager to read something aside from the series. I found Last Summer to be one I could not put down. Journalist Ella Skye wakes up in the hospital unable to remember the accident that caused her to be there, worst yet she can't remember the baby she just lost with her husband Damien. Her desire to get her memories back at no cost, including getting close to a man who apparently knows her better than he should, was what kept me turning pages. Nathan, a subject of one of the articles she wrote about knows more than he's letting on. And what she finds is everyone has secrets, including herself. I liked the story even though I had a hard time relating to Ella. She was so in love with her husband but also so drawn to another man is where she lost me. When secrets were revealed and truths told, there was an "a-ha" moment that pulled it all together.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Kerry Lonsdale’s, Last Summer. Ella’s story and the plot twists and turns the author takes you on will leave you flipping pages as quickly as you can right up until the very end. I didn’t expect the story to end as it did, and it left me wanting more!
Ella is an extremely likeable protagonist... she’s an excellent journalist, and the persistence she has in her profession carries over into her personal life. Her and her husband, Damien, seemingly have a great relationship, but as secrets come to light, it just goes to show that things aren’t always what they seem.
I am excited to read more by Kerry as this was the first book of hers I’ve read.
Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for an advanced copy of Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale.
Ella Skye is a Senior Features Write for Luxe Avenue magazine. Her husband, Damien head of a cyber security company. They are both well known in each of their careers.
Ella was involved in a horrible car accident. When she wakes up in the hospital, her husband Damien is right by her side. She finds herself unable to remember her pregnancy, the emergency c section or her son!!! When she asks Damien to help or remember, he is very standoffish. He promises her that they will talk soon.
When Ella returns to work she is asked to interview Nathan Donovan. The reality TV star!. Apparently she interviewed him Last Summer. When she searches her computer she cant find any of the files or emails from Mr. Donovan.
When she arrives at Nathan's house for the exclusive interview there is something about Nathan. She cant quite figure it out. Does he know what happened last summer?
This book has so many twists and turns. I probably reread the end of the book three times. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Her best book yet!!!
What would you do if you woke up one day and could remember your job, your house and your husband but you couldn’t remember being pregnant. Lifestyle journalist Ella Skye remembers every celebrity she interviewed, meeting with her husband, Damien; their wedding are all locked in her memory. But what she can’t remember is the tragic car accident that ripped her unborn child from her. Ella can’t even recall being pregnant.
I am a huge fan of Kerry Lonsdale and I read this book in one sitting. The characters were well written, the story kept you guessing and I never saw the twist coming. I would love to have a follow up to this book! GREAT read!!

Synopsis :
Lifestyle journalist Ella Skye remembers every celebrity she interviewed, every politician she charmed between the sheets, and every socialite who eyed her with envy. The chance meeting with her husband, Damien; their rapid free fall into love; and their low-key, intimate wedding are all locked in her memory. But what she can't remember is the tragic car accident that ripped her unborn child from her. Ella can't even recall being pregnant.
Hoping to find the memories of a lost pregnancy that's left her husband devastated and their home empty, Ella begins delving into her past when she's assigned an exclusive story about Nathan Donovan, a retired celebrity adventurer who seems to know more about her than she does him. To unravel the mystery of her selective memory loss, Ella follows Nathan from the snowcapped Sierra Nevada to the frozen slopes of southeast Alaska. There she discovers the people she trusts most aren't the only ones keeping secrets from her--she's hiding them from herself. Ella quickly learns that some truths are best left forgotten.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing, I received an ARC of this book. I read it in about 4 hours on the way to the beach... SO good! It was addicting and kept me going so I could figure out what happened. When you think you know the twist, Kerry Lonsdale throws another one at you. Such a wild and crazy ride!
I have loved all of her books so far , and this one is no exception as it makes you want to see what happens. It is a psychological mystery and romance.
Ella Skye is a lifestyle journalist, always ready to jump into the next assignment, until one day Ella has a car accident where she loses her unborn baby and part of her memory.
When she wakes up In the hospital she can't remember getting pregnant or anything about the pregnancy, or anything about a celebrity that she is supposed to interview again after he backed out the first time.
I don't want to tell too much of the story as this is one that you need to read to make up your own mind about all that goes on. This story has a surprising twist and it will make you think about what love, loyalty and deception is all about.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC of this book.
Special thanks for NetGalley, Kerry Lonsdale and Lake Union Publishing for a free copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ella Skye wakes up in the hospital with a mild case of amnesia that is only limited to a selective period of time. Her memories of being pregnant have simply vanished. As Ella tries to put together the memories she lost with the help of her husband, as she tries to figure out the events that led her to that hospital bed, the secrets of the past are revealed...secrets that should have remained hidden.
Last summer was an absolutely stunning and bewildering story of love, truth, lies, and deceit. It is very uncommon for me to read a novel where I'm left questioning everything I just read but Kerry Londale's novel left me stunned and a bit hoodwinked. I did not foresee any of the plot twists coming. I do admit that the entire time I spent reading I sensed that something was not right, that something was very off but I could not place my figure on it. I was transposed into Ella's mind and LOVED IT. When the truth of the true villain (or villains depending on how you look at it) materialized , I was left me utterly speechless. And that ending....THAT ENDING!! Oh my.
<p>Recommendation: Kerry Lonsdale is a literary genius that has mastered the element of surprise. Read this!
