I've always been a fan of Pride and Prejudice. My favorite movie is the one starring Kiera Knightly in fact.
Escape to Everly Manor is all the Pride and Prejudice vibes, 🤔 but maybe it's more because it's set in the same time period. Or maybe that the main character's name is Lizzy.
This was my first book by Chalon Linton and I got to say, I'm in love. The characters were amazing and I fell in love with them all. There was so much suspense in this read, I couldn't put it down.
Lizzy, though a "privileged" lady, doesn't do the whole damsel in distress thing and I really like that. She fights for her own way and even fights Mr. Barton as he tries to help.
Barton has an amazing sense of humor and is carefree. Not like a lot of historical books where the gentleman is so stern and broody. Nope. He is an ideal man even in this time and he may be fighting Mr. Darcy for my affections.
Overall I give this sweet, suspenseful read 5 shiny stars, and I'm going to go check out the rest of Chalon Linton's books.

This was my 1st book I have read of Chalon Linton's and it did not disappoint. Lizzy and her younger brother are forced to escape from the clutches of her greedy uncle and in doing so fall into the path of Harrison Barton Everly. The story drew me in from the 1st page and I could not put it down until the last page. I will definitely be checking out Chalon Linton's other novels.

Those of you who like to read Regency romance will certainly enjoy Escape to Everly Manor by Chalon Linton. When Elizabeth's parents are killed in a carriage accident, she and her half-brother Thomas find themselves in the care of Uncle Clive. He is dishonorable man who is both cruel and self-serving. Clive tries to get rid of both children, but Elizabeth has an escape plan. Her plan does not involve running into Harrison Barton Everly at every turn of their escape. He rescues them over and over. When a tree is blown over onto Elizabeth, she and Thomas stay at Everly Manor to recover. This gives them time to assimilate into the Everly family and a special feeling start to grow between Barton and Elizabeth. But Elizabeth's hiding place is discovered. Her past forces her to leave Everly Manor and return home where Clive kidnaps Thomas. Will Barton and his family come to the rescue once again? Will Barton and Elizabeth be able to finally express their love.
This is both a romance and a mystery. It is a very enjoyable read where you may escape into the times when manners, men in tailcoats and true love flourish.

This was the first book that I have read by this author and I am hoping there will be many more. I enjoyed her style of writing and her development of characters.
This was a Regency romance about Lizzy Stafford and her young brother, Thomas and their escape from their family home to get away from their Uncle's evil plan. Her uncle had inherited everything with Lizzy's father and stepmother were both killed in a carriage accident. Uncle Cline was determined to ship Thomas off to work as a servant on a merchant ship and marry Lizzy off to an awful man more than twice her age. Lizzy had to protect Thomas and get them both away so he developed a scheme while agreeing to her uncle's plan. While enroute to the sea, Lizzy and Thomas escaped and had quite the adventure. During their escape, Lizzy literally ran into Harrison Barton Everly at the apothecary's shop in the small village of Hillcrest. Barton saved Lizzy from a fallen tree and helped to protect and provide nursing care for her to heal. During her stay at Everly Manor, Lizzy began to believe that she could trust Barton with her secrets but her main goal was to provide protection for Thomas.
There is a drama, intrigue, evil scheming, kidnapping and a host of other things to capture one's attention. There is also a sweet romance with a happy ending. The story is also clean without sex and foul language, just a sweet story worth reading.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

Escape to Everly Manor was a quick, fun, clean romance. If you enjoy a quick romp through the English countryside, escaping from evil villains in hopes of escaping an unwanted marriage then this tale is for you. The cast of characters offers nothing new but the writing is comforting in its predictability.

This is an exciting book from start to finish! I couldn't put it down! A thrilling and exciting ending as well! I will enjoy reading this one again and again!

This is another really clean sweet romance from Chalon Linton. It has so many elements to it. It has a depth to it that many books don’t often have. It is swoony with being very clean. It will tug at your emotions. It’s definitely a book I would recommend if you enjoy Jane Austen.

To keep her younger brother sent to sea and to escape from her uncle's cruel nature, Lizzy Stafford runs away from the only home she's ever known. Things do not go as planned, and when she meets Mr. Barton, she comes to realize this gentleman might be the help she needs.
For the most part, I did enjoy this romance. Lizzy was an enjoyable character, even if at times she was annoyingly selfless at times. it was lovely to watch her bravery in the face of the unknown, and her interactions with her brother were sweet. I also liked that the romance was built on trust between herself and barton, which made the last third of the book infuriating with Lizzy's behavior.
There were times the characters did not act as I would have expected from the time period. It was annoying but I was more willing to tolerate it because I enjoyed the characters.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read. I would recommend it to readers of Regency romance.

This wonderful regency romance has it all! The story grabs you from the start and moves quickly. Great descriptive writing makes it easy to picture Elizabeth, Thomas, and their adventures. Lots of fun characters with great personalities. A very fun read.

This book is filled with people with good intentions longing to do the right thing, only to get knocked down again and again. The beautiful part about Chalon Linton’s characters is that they get back up again. They keep doing the right thing (or what they hope is the right thing), without fail. These characters are stubborn and devoted and naive and compassionate and frustrating and loving, and I enjoyed it all.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Chalon Linton is still a fairly new author to me, but I really liked A Tangled Inheritance and found the cover to this one intriguing, so I submitted my request to NetGalley and was happy to be approved.
When Lizzy Stafford's step-mother and father are killed in a carriage accident, she and her younger brother Thomas become pawns in their Uncle Cline's quest for their inheritance. He's now their legal guardian and plans to send Thomas (who's only nine) off to join the crew of a merchant vessel, the Vendetta (an apropos name), and have Lizzie wed Mr. Rudyard Simpkin, who's more than twice her age!
Lizzie hatches a plan to escape from their greedy and overbearing uncle. Things don't quite go as she planned because uncle sends a footman to travel with them to Ipswich where the Vendetta is moored. They end up finding shelter in an abandoned cabin and stay a few days eating what food they have and berries found on the property. Lizzie finally has to go to the nearest village and that's where she literally runs into Barton Everly. He tells her his friends call him Barton and she assumes he's Mr. Barton. Later she finds out he's Barton Everly of Everly Manor.
Barton Everly is a kind, generous, man. A true gentleman in every sense. He learned from his father to care for those less fortunate, so when he finds out that Lizzie and Thomas are staying at the cabin on his property he wants to help them.
There are so many adjectives to describe Lizzie--headstrong, stubborn, prideful, but she's also very loving, loyal, and brave. Because someone who should have watched over and protected her and Thomas (her uncle) did exactly the opposite, Lizzie is overly cautious and not trusting of Barton and his family.
I don't want to spoil anything but just as I thought everything was going to work out, something I didn't plan on happens. What?!! Thankfully it all works all in the end. This book has everything--the evil, greedy relative, the odious man the young woman is to marry, the handsome wealthy hero, jewels, a kidnapping plot, and an adorable dog!
This is a clean romance. There are some scenes of mild peril.
Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley for my copy to read and review. All thoughts and opinions in this review are mine.

A young woman takes her younger step brother and escapes from their uncle who took over the family estate after the death of their father. The young woman also took jewels that her mother wanted her to have. The uncle had made a deal with an older man to marry the young woman, and had ordered the younger brother to be conscripted to a merchant ship. The young woman finds refuge in an abandoned cabin, but gets injured in a storm. A man rescues her and takes them both to his estate. Of course, that's not all. The fiancee comes looking for the young woman. You must read what happens next.

Escape to Everly Manor, written by Chalon Linton, tells the tale of Lizzy Stanton, age nineteen, and her nine-year-old brother, Thomas, when following the unexpected deaths of their parents, they learn to navigate life together. Their Uncle Clive has taken over authority of their estate and suddenly begins to make all the decisions concerning Lizzy and Thomas's lives!
When Lizzy learns that she has been engaged to a man twice her age and Thomas is to be sent into the dangerous world of working on a ship at sea, she knows she must take this situation into her own hands. When Lizzy travels with Thomas to board his ship, you realize their adventure is just beginning!
Lizzy and Thomas leave their carriage and enter a world that will change their lives!

Lizzy Stafford lives with her uncle and her nine-year old half-brother Thomas. Her uncle plans to send her brother to work on a merchant ship at sea at the tender age of nine. Her uncle has also arranged to marry Lizzie to a man of fortune, twenty-five years her senior. Lizzy and Thomas escape from the claws of her uncle the day Thomas is to be sent to off to the sea. With little money and bad weather, Lizzie and Thomas take refuge in an abandoned home on the property of Everly Manor. There she meets a gentleman who is immediately taken by Lizzy and her brother and desires to help her.
You will love Lizzy for her devotion, determination and her protection of her younger brother. Can Lizzie put aside her fears and trust in the handsome gentleman who is attracted to her? Will she be able to remain hidden from her uncle and her intended fiancée? This story has some twists and turns and assumed names and mistaken identities, so hold on for the ride. It is a very sweet romance, and it is also a clean romance, which is a huge plus in my opinion.
I received an ARC Copy from Net Galley for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading the book. I liked the main characters though I did get frustrated with Elizabeth's stubbornness. But I do have to give her credit. I kept thinking that staying at the manor would be the safest place since they knew they had already been looking for her in that area. Hiding where they had already been would be safer than moving to a place where they might yet come looking. Turns out Lizzy was right.
Barton was a good man and I liked that despite being burned before, he was eager to believe in Elizabeth. He searched for evidence to back up his feelings and trusted his gut.
It seemed like the good in this story were really good and the evil were really evil. Not a lot of middle ground. Even those who made terrible mistakes still were acting out of love and goodness.
Thomas was treated as though he was much younger than he was but I wonder if that was because he had shrunk back in the months of his uncle's reign of terror. Or had he always been treated that way and knew no different? His sister seemed to be his only playmate.
There was a familiarity in the plotline but I'm not sure that I have read a book where the sister was so fiercely devoted to a sibling that she always put him first. And all other duty before herself as well. If only she would have included Barton's desires they could have been happy a lot sooner.
Sex: no. Some leering and innuendo.
Language: no
Violence: yes. Not too graphic.
*I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley and voluntarily chose to review it.

3.5⭐️s.....This was a easy short read that transported me to romance and away from my daily worries.
The story starts off in England during the 1800 where death and hardship were commonplace. Elizabeth has lost both parents and has only a cruel uncle to see after her. She must try to protect herself and her brother and doesn’t know who to trust.
Things I loved about the book.
*Barton and how he loved people.
*HEA
Things I didn’t like.
*The uncle
*The constant running.
This book is my first Net galley read and I’m so excited about this.. I want to tell everyone I know about reading and always try to be as honest as possible with each review.
Happy Reading! ❤️

Escape to Everly Manor by Chalon Linton. Covenant Communications, 2019.
This historical romance begins in 1813, after Elizabeth Stafford’s father and stepmother have been killed in a carriage accident and their cruel and abusive uncle has arranged for her young brother Thomas, to go to sea and for Lizzy to marry an older much disliked neighbour. Lizzy and Thomas escape, taking refuge in an abandoned cabin in Barton Everly’s forest.
This well-written book is a pleasant and engaging read, even though most plot elements will be familiar to historical romance readers from other stories. Thomas is an appealing child but is treated like a four-year old. Kind and generous Barton is especially likeable, though he has his hands full with is annoyingly nosey mother and loyal but stubborn Lizzy who is perhaps dangerously lacking in common sense.
I enjoyed reading Escape to Everly Manor.
Disclosure: I received a review copy of Escape to Everly Manor via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This started out intriguing, also scary. Elizabeth Stafford had lost both her parents in a carriage accident a short while ago. All that is left of her family is her half brother. She has always adored him. Her uncle had come to the house for his inheritance, which was all of it. Their father left them nothing. He had arranged for Thomas to be a cabin boy and she knew with his sweet disposition he would not make it. She would not let this happen, they would run. Her fate was to be wed to a man twenty five years her senior, very cruel, and evil. Harrison Barton Everly of Everly Manor had lost his father but he still had his older sister, younger brother and his mother. He tried to make his tenants and the villager lives better.
When lizzy and her brother ran, an awful storm came up and they stayed in an abandoned cottage.
While there they met Barton, he was interested in Lizzy but he was a gentleman and tried to help them and protect them.
I enjoyed the tale of wet stormy nights and evil people and love budding. There were some twists to the story which kept it interesting. The characters were engaging and had depth. They were kind.
The weather did not cooperate. It was well written, flowed smoothly, and had dialogue to fit the scene. I loved when Thomas got a puppy, actually Barton bought it for himself but the boy had fallen in love with it. It is a clean novel and worth the time to read it.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

A beautifully written story about a young woman and her younger brother who are fleeing from they tyranny of an uncle who has come to claim his place after the death of their father. The struggles endured by Lizzy to the benefit of Thomas, her brother, really endeared me to her quickly. Is she is even willing to sacrifice her heart for him? Read this wonderful story and find out for yourself.

Library recommendation: Recommended for public library historical romance collections.
Warning: Hereafter, you chance spoilers. I will try never to reveal major plot points, but to review any book, you must reveal some parts of the story.

Number of titles I have read by this author: 1
Love story speed: Slow burn
Relationship dynamics: The Orphaned Young Woman with Nefarious Relatives (h) / The Kindly Lord of the Manor (H)
Sexual content: None. Some kissing only.
Triggers: Some violence against women (not by H); some gun violence.
Grammar/Editing: This ARC suffered from an awful lot of formatting problems which caused some confusion (e.g. dialogue paragraphs mashed together). There were a few typos as well. If the published version is vastly improved, this could be a 4 star book for me.
Review: The pacing in this novel is quite good, and even. There are enough twists and turns throughout the novel, even if they were a little predictable. Although the subtitle on the cover of the book declares this to be a Regency setting, I did not note any particular details within the book that would mark it as such. That being said, it was still clearly pre-Victorian.
Lizzy is a devoted sister and determined, though somewhat naive (as one would expect the daughter of a gentleman to be). Barton is a kind, benevolent soul who, though he has some emotional scars, sees the best in most people and is quite persistent. Lizzy and Barton are well-matched and refreshingly candid with one another, for the most part. The relationship progression was good, although historical propriety seemed a little forgotten about in places. The supporting characters were interesting and fairly well developed, Thomas especially so. In fact, Lizzy and Thomas’ relationship was almost more interesting than the romance.
Horse version: A fine piece of horseflesh. Although it seems confused at times, it always knows where it’s going and won’t throw you off if you treat it with a little bit of patience.
