Thriller, creepy, manipulation, paranoia, fast-paced, suspense-If these words are what you like to read in a book, you should definitely choose this one.
The story mostly revolves around Jake & a woman he sat next to on a plane, Clara. They feel a deep connection, although they are sure they never met before. Clara confides in Jake that she plans on committing suicide. The story immediately takes off from there. You must read to fully comprehend the story-line.
My very favorite thing about Wilson and why I will continue to keep reading him is that his books are nowhere near cookie cutter plots! I read so many of this genre that I have picky taste now and it's refreshing to read a plot you've never read elsewhere. Man, I hate giving an author I really love a 2 star rating but this one from him just wasn't my favorite of his books. The beginning had promise - I was enjoying the writing style and couldn't guess what was going to happen. I was intrigued that there may be a sci-fi element to this book. But around half way through I find myself bored. Certain situations were drawn out much longer than they needed to be, there was a lot of filler that left me confused as to its purpose, and there started to be a lot of repetition when you were finding out about their past. I haven't felt this way about his other books so it left me skimming during the second half. Again, I hate giving these types of reviews on authors I highly enjoy and respect however this one wasn't for me. However I really love Comfort of Black, Mister Tender's Girl, & Revelation!
What a delightfully intricate and unique premise, written with clarity and insight into the human condition...the frailties as well as the strengths. What begins as curious soon becomes infuriatingly elusive, and the empathy with the characters was charged. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I believe you will, too. Read it!
When Jake meets Clara on a flight to Denver, they are both familiar to each other, but neither can figure out why. Clara admits she is going to Denver to commit suicide. Jake is put off by a stranger telling him this and has a hard time letting her go. This story is what happens after Jake and Clara get off the plane.
I was first really intrigued by the premise of this book and was not disappointed. Not at all what I was expecting from it, but a good book nonetheless. The characters have real flaws that make you able to understand their motives.
I was given an advance copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this book more than I did But I found myself just barely finishing. This book just didn't hold my attention.
There are no such things as coincidences.
Jake Buchannan is a down-on-his-luck ghost writer, with no memories of his childhood, on a flight to Denver to write a memoir for a wealthy businessman. Clara Stowe sits down next to Jake, and both immediately sense they know each other. Even stranger, Clara also admits she has no memories of her childhood. During the course of the flight, they try and find the connection but are unable to. Right before the flight lands, Clara announces that she's planning on killing herself and then disappears into the crowded airport after landing.
Told from varying perspectives, The Dead Girl in 2A tells the story of Jake and Clara, how they first met and what happens after they get off the plane. With glimmers of supernatural events, Carter Wilson shows just how far some people will go to get answers. An exceptional, suspenseful read!
What a surprise this book was. I guess I was expecting something different to read but I really liked how it turned out. Two people Jake and Clara meet on the plane and they have this feeling that they know each other from somewhere. They also suffer from memory loss. What else connects this two? This book is unique and definitely a page turner with a lot of twists.

Jake takes a flight to Denver for a work trip and sits next to Clara Stowe. They both feel an intense sudden connection with one another but they don't know why. Clara tells Jake she is flying to Denver to kill herself. This ignites the story into high gear as we learn about Jake & Clara's lost memories and where they go after their encounter with one another.
I typically don't gravitate towards novels in the thriller genre but this plot had me very intrigued. The concept was compelling, powerful and profound. I honestly couldn't keep from turning the page. It was full of twists, had moments of creepiness and left a cliffhanger at the end of practically each chapter. I especially loved the alternating POVs - the characters kept me invested in the story. The ending left me wanting a little more but the author did an excellent job wrapping up loose ends and addressing each moving part.
This is my first book I have ever read by Carter Wilson and it was terrific and it won't be my last book to read by this author. It is about a man named Jake and a woman named Clara who meet on a plane and are sitting next to each other. They both feel they know each other but cannot place where they have met before. They are in fact connected in many ways, I truly find this book hard to review in depth because I am afraid to give away any spoilers. Once I started reading this book I could stop till I finished it. It is one of the most unusual books I have ever read, truly fascinating and a true page turner. It had so many twists and turns and as the book progresses I finally see what is happening. I highly recommend this book and it is a true psychological thriller and I immensely enjoyed reading it. I want to thank net galley for this ARC I received from them for an honest review
Jake Buchannan knows the woman sitting next to him on his flight to Denver—he just can’t figure out how he knows her. Clara Stowe isn’t in Jake’s line of work and didn’t go to college with him. They have nearly nothing in common apart from a deep and shared certainty that they’ve met before. Despite their best efforts over a probing conversation, both struggle to figure out what circumstances could possibly have brought them together. Then, in a revelation that sends Jake reeling, Clara admits she’s traveling to the Colorado mountains to kill herself, and disappears into the crowded airport immediately after landing.
The Dead Girl in 2A is the story of what happens to Jake and Clara after they get off that plane, and the manipulative figure who has brought them together decades after they first met.
This was a crazy read, in a good way. one of those thrillers that seem too good to be true but you just have to get to the end of the story. I really recommend this book.
This book is very well written. It pulled me in almost right away and kept me interested until the very end. I will definitely be recommending this to the customers at my work!
This is my first adventure with a Carter Wilson story - and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip!
It has happened to all of us. You see someone in a store or restaurant, you are introduced to someone at a party, you sit next to someone on an airplane ... and you are certain the you know them - but you just can't seem to remember HOW you know them. This is the story of just such an encounter.
Jake Buchanon needs money for his daughter's medical treatments. When he is offered a ghost writing job at an exorbitant fee, he jumps at the opportunity ... and jumps on a plane to Denver. Clare Wilson needs to end her own life. She is boarding a plane to Denver and her ticket has been upgraded to first class, seat 2A, right next to Jake Buchanon. Jake and Clare are sure that they have met before, but they don't remember where. The Dead Girl in 2A is their story.
This book has the all the makings of an easy transition from page to film.
This definitely kept me awake at night and on the edge of my seat!
Scopolamine, the drug that figures heavily in the plot, was the drug of choice in childbirth in the 60’s. It was combined with morphine and called Twilight Sleep. The purpose of giving it to birthing mothers was to cause them to forget the pain and rigors of childbirth. Yes, it did that to me but it also gave me ongoing nightmares for over a year.
The reason I’m giving this personal experience is to validate and verify the effects of the drug cited in this book. Some of the elements of the plot seem a bit far fetched, but sadly, they’re really not.
Nicely summed up at the end, too.

Do we have memories in our mind that are hidden. Can they be unlocked. They met on a plane and seemed to think they had met before. Strange things keep happening that all seem familiar. Who is his man that wants a ghost writer and why so secretive. A must read. We all have these de ja vous minutes. Could someone have hidden our memories and now unlock them.

Woah! I didn't expect this at all. I thought this might be a run-of-the-mill murder mystery, but nope.
The Dead Girl in 2A had my full attention from the very beginning and had me guessing until the very end! It was such a captivating and twisted ride. I'll definitely check out the rest of Carter Wilson's novels.
What an intriguing book! From its description and early chapters, I had it pegged as your typical thriller and was instantly pulled into the characters' worlds, wondering how main characters Jake and Clara were connected.
It quickly then became more of a psychological rollercoaster mixed with a bit of science fiction! However for me, it felt like it didn't quite hit the spot. When we first met Jake's mysterious client, Eaton, I was so absorbed, wondering what this man's story was going to be as Jake delved into writing his memoirs for him. But then the story seemed to descend into the slightly ridiculous. To be fair, as is explained as a bit of an epilogue to the book, and without wanting to give anything too much away, what happens is actually rooted in a bit of reality and maybe even more likely to be real than a lot of the usual thrillers I enjoy, but something just wasn't working for me - it was getting a little too overly far-fetched!
Saying that, the final quarter of the book brought me back round again and I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end - eager to find out the remaining answers to the puzzle, which brought along plenty of surprises to keep me guessing!
Overall this was an enjoyable and interesting read and I will be keeping an eye out for what Carter Wilson writes next.
Two people meet on a plane and swear they have seen each other before. They can feel it that they know one another... but how?
Then “the girl in seat 2A,” Clara, reveals she’s on this flight to go and kill herself. But if she’s not unhappy with her life, why?
Jake is flying to the same destination to write a memoir for someone. Readers soon find out these two are indeed connected.
I did not anticipate the science fiction twist this book took but I appreciate all the thought that went into developing this plot line and background for each and every character.
A well planned novel but no “major twist.” Overall a decent read.
Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My one complaint about the book was the cover. This is not something that ever would have grabbed my attention. Luckily, I had seen a remark in a Facebook group about how great this book is so I decided to check it out.
This reminded me of Stranger Things and the Twilight Zone. It's different, unique, and extremely entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone who loves thrillers, and is looking to read something just a little different then what they are used to. I don't want to give away anything. I think this one of those books that the less you know the better.
In addition, I ended up watching the documentary that Carter Wilson mentions after the conclusion of the book. Very interesting stuff.

This was a very good and quite unique book. Jake meets Clara on a flight from Boston to Denver. They feel a connection with each other but can't figure out what it is. She tells Jake she plans to kill herself in Aspen. He wants to help her but once the plane lands and they are off, she disappears. We learn pretty quickly that both of them have been having issues with memory loss and the story takes off from there. I thought there were initially some slower paced moments, but then I thought the story really took off and I read it in just over a day. Very intriguing subject matter. Reminded me a little bit of Brian Freeman's The Night Bird because that also dealt with the memory. Interesting read. I enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.
This is the first suspense novel I've read written by a male in a long time. I really enjoyed this book and the suspense that was build was great!
Quirky and a good thriller!
