Kate English is a doctor who has what looks like a perfect life at the beginning of the book, until her mother, Lily, is murdered. Kate's has been estranged from her old best friend, Blaire, since Kate's wedding to her husband years ago. However, when her mother is murdered, Kate decides to reach out to Blaire to let her know about Lily's death since her mother and Blaire had a close relationship. This contact rekindles their old friendship and Blaire comes back to town for the funeral.
Kate is distressed when she begins to receive strange messages threatening her. Fortunately for her, Blaire is also a mystery writer and she is up to the task of helping the police find out who murdered Lily and who is stalking Kate. Possible suspects are all over, and some are very, very close to home.
I really enjoyed Liv Constantine's first novel, The Last Mrs. Parrish so I was very excited to read this book. I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book. I found it to be a solid mystery and I can honestly say that had no idea what was coming next and the ending was a huge surprise. That being said, it was such a huge surprise in part because it was a tad "out there" and unrealistic. But I don't always want to read a realistic mystery, so I appreciate the authors' inventiveness here.

After reading Liv Constantine's first novel, I was more than excited for their next publication! This story started a tad slow for me, taking awhile to figure out the connections between all of the characters. Eventually however, I became engaged in the suspense, the entire time trying to "figure it out." While I was unable to solve the mystery, I enjoyed the unexpected twists and turns throughout. Overall, I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to a friend, though it does not live up to the hype surrounding their first novel , The Last Mrs. Parrish.
Kate seems to have it all – she’s got an excellent career, a wonderful husband and daughter, a beautiful house, and she’s an heiress to a large fortune. One night Kate’s mother, Lily, is murdered at home. At Lily’s funeral, Kate reconnects with an old friend Blaire. After the funeral, Kate receives a creepy anonymous text message and to make matter worse, the police haven’t found the killer yet. Blaire is determined to solve the mystery and in the process of investigating, she uncovers some secrets.
It would have been a 4 star except the very end dragged on for me a little too much and I guessed what some of the twists were.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Dr. Kate English has it all. Not only is she the heiress to a large fortune; she has a gorgeous husband and daughter, a high-flying career, and a beautiful home anyone would envy.
But all that changes the night Kate’s mother, Lily, is found dead, brutally murdered in her own home. Heartbroken and distraught, Kate reaches out to her estranged best friend, Blaire Barrington, who rushes to her side for the funeral, where the years of distance between them are forgotten in a moment.
Once Blaire decides to take the investigation into her own hands, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems in Baltimore high society. As infidelity, lies, and betrayals come to light, and tensions rise to a boiling point, she begins to alienate Kate’s friends and relatives with her relentless, accusatory questions, as she tries to find Lily’s killer.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was as good as their last book The Last Mrs. Parrish. The only complaint I have is the amount of characters in this book made it kind of difficult to follow sometimes. Overall it was an excellent story that keeps you guessing throughout.
Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of The Last Time I Saw You by Liv Constantine

This book was good and twisty, but a little predictable. There were plenty of surprises to keep me entertained throughout and I’m happy with the ending. I’m always a fan of multiple point of view books and this did not disappoint. This book is a very fast read.
A very interesting read . Twists and turns to keep you engrossed. Wondering which way the author is going to take it. Nice and easy to read. Flows well. Enjoyable to read
I’ve heard so many good things about this author that I jumped at the chance to read her new release. Sadly, I wasn’t all that impressed. Kate got on my nerves as the story unfolded, and some plot points dragged on a bit too much or seemed too far-fetched (like the cheesy soaps I used to watch on occasion). A few of the twists surprised me, but I had most of them figured out by the “big reveal.” Nothing really grabbed me and made me say, “Just one more chapter!” Apparently I need to read The Last Mrs. Parrish instead. I’ll consider checking out future books by this author.

Dr. Kate English seems to have it all, a loving family, a thriving career, and a beautiful home. All that changes one night when Kate's mother, Lily, is brutally murdered. Her world seems to fall apart in the blink of an eye. Grieving, Kate reaches out to the only person she can think of that knows her well enough to be her rock during this devastating time, her best friend Blaire. The problem is Blaire and Kate haven't spoken in years. An unfortunate and badly timed argument divided the best friends, causing a rift that seemed impossible to mend. Not knowing what else to do, Kate takes a leap of faith and begins the process of reconnecting with Blaire.
Upon hearing of Lily's death, Blaire Barrington drops everything and returns to the town that she grew up in, a town that holds many pleasant, and not so pleasant memories. Lily was like a mother to her, and although grief-stricken, Blaire puts the past behind her and comes to Kate's side in this dark and sorrowful time.
Things take a sudden and terrifying turn when, after Lily's funeral, Kate receives a threatening message saying she will be the next to die. Kate begins to spiral out of control as her fear and paranoia cause her to question all those closest to her. Blaire, being the dedicated and loyal friend from Kate's past, sets out to find Lily's murderer, and the person who is threatening her dearest childhood friend.
As events unfold, Kate's life unravels: threatening, not only her marriage, but her daughter, her father's freedom, and her newly rekindled friendship with Blaire.
The Last Time I Saw You takes you on a spiraling, rabbit-hole of twists and turns that have you questioning everyone but the person you should be wary of the most. Just when you think you have a grasp on what's happening, something happens that makes you doubt what you knew was paramount.
Liv Constantine does an excellent job of making you root for Kate and her situation one minute, and question her stability and sanity the next. She spins a tale so twisted and intricately connected it has you throwing your hand over your mouth at the end. The beautifully developed characters feel straight out of a morning soap opera. You truly find yourself debating on whom you dislike the most, but in a seedy, adrenaline-addicting sort of way.
I ingurgitated this book as I followed the well-laid path the author led me on, never knowing who to trust, or if I was being shown the whole picture. The shocking and completely unexpected end came out of nowhere, and left me pondering what I missed, and how I could have been so wrong.
Kate is surprised and devastated when her mother, Lily is found murdered. Kate is the typical unreliable narrator. Kate relies on her once estranged best friend Blaire who has come back to town to attend the funeral, as Kate falls deeper into solitude and loneliness. Instead of sympathy, I found Kate incredibly annoying. I might be in the minority but I started The Last Mrs. Parrish by the same authors (Liv Constantine is a pen name for 2 sisters) but couldn't finish it. So I actually had low expectations for this one. But I actually finished this one and the ending was unexpected, so there's that!
When Kate’s beloved mother is murdered, her old friend Blaire comes back into town. They had a falling out at Kate’s wedding to Simon and have not talked since but Blaire was a big part of Kate’s family when they were friends. Blaire is now a big time mystery writer with her husband and she wants to help find out just what happened. Someone is sending Kate mysterious, creepy messages and gifts and it seems she might be next.
There is a lot going on here. Being a family of means, there are a lot of other people around them. (And I do enjoy reading about how the other half lives.) From lawyers to friends to the help, you begin to wonder about all of them. It was a bit confusing at times, trying to keep who was who in my head, but it did not make it that difficult to follow. You just have a long list of suspects but I have to say, I did not figure out the killer and was quite surprised. It ended on a creepy, great note.
If you enjoyed their first book, The Last Mrs. Parrish, you will enjoy this one as well.
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for a copy of this book.
My first book by this author (though I do have her first but just haven't read it yet) and I quite enjoyed it. Some good little twists and pretty good build up. I was able to figure out who the whodunit but didn't see the "second" twist coming. Thanks for the opportunity to read it!
Captured from the beginning I really wanted to know what happened to Lily. Who murdered Kate’s mother? Why? Her own husband? Her best friend? Another relative? A stranger? Who did it and what’s with the items found in her home? This book kept me guessing!
I really liked The Last Mrs Parrish, but this book was a letdown. Too many confusing characters and the fact that they were ridiculously rich was off putting to me too. I had trouble even following the plotline. The ending was unbelievable.
The two-sister writing team of THE LAST MRS. PARRISH has another winner here. Dr. Kate English has led a charmed life until her mother is suddenly murdered in her own home. At the funeral, Kate encounters her estranged best friend Blaire. They haven’t spoken to each other in years, because Blaire disagreed with Kate’s choice of a husband. The two women immediately reconnect, and, when Kate begins receiving death threats, Blaire becomes a very strong support for her. Blair is a successful murder mystery novelist, and decides to investigate the threats on her own. Kate’s old problems with stress and anxiety resurface, as she suspects everyone – friends, her daughter’s nanny, her husband, even her now-widowed father. The story’s resolution is both unexpected and predictable. The novel is a fast-read, seamlessly moving from past to present and from character to character. As I was with their first novel, I am again surprised that the plot was written by two different people. Excellent read!
The Last Time I Saw You is a psychological thriller. It is a fast-paced read that will keep you glued until you reach the last page. Live Constantine is an excellent storyteller.
🌼BOOK REVIEW 🌼.
Finally reviewing #TheLastTimeISawYou by Liv Constantine. I was so thrilled to get an advance copy from @netgalley because I had been anticipating this one! Let me start by saying that I liked but did not absolutely love The Last Mrs. Parrish, writing duo, Liv Constantine’s first novel. I found that one to be a bit over the top but all in all, a juicy page-turner. In The Last Time I Saw You, doctor protagonist Kate English’s mother has just been brutally murdered and now it appears whoever killed her is stalking Kate as well. This is an ok, albeit fairly cliche premise for a thriller and I am sorry to say things didn’t improve much from there. The characters in this book were just...annoying. Obsessed with money and image, paranoid but needy. I did not connect with Kate at all, did not feel bad for her, scared for her, or root for her, and did not trust anyone else in her world least of all her pretty-boy husband or her fair weather friend Blaire who reappears right after her mother’s murder. There is a twist at the end which is not a terrible one, although getting there almost wasn’t entirely worth it. And the very end...just no. I won’t give anything away but one character is totally delusional in an over the top, not at all believable way. All in all, the thrilled category is one of my absolute favorites and there’s a lot of GREAT ones out there. Really truly great ones that are are smart and shocking. This one did not hold up. ⭐️⭐️ from me.
There seemed to be a LOT of characters in this book, and it confused me as to who was related to who, who was secretly related to who, and who had affairs/maybe had affairs with who. I didn't find the main character, Dr. Kate English, likeable, and the scenes where she was portrayed as possibly going crazy grew old after a while. I didn't connect to the story, and didn't relate to any of the characters. The 34th chapter, where we see what happens to Blaire, was the strongest, in my opinion. I remember enjoying The Last Mrs. Parrish - but I didn't enjoy this one and found myself skimming. I think The Last Time I Saw You is definitely the weaker offering from this pair of authors.
Thanks, Netgalley, for this arc.
The Last Time I Saw You lands with a whimper. Ostensibly a thriller, it's more of a stack of cliches (right down to label dropping as character development, ugh) muddled together with a too typical plot. Kate, the heroine, is a great doctor who never seems to practice (though she did ace her MCATs, of course) and Blaire is distinguished by having an e at the end of her name and being a famous author (or rather, co-author...hmm.) I suppose we could blame Blaire for the vapid writing, which seems to be in her wheelhouse, but aside from a lack of talent and the crazy, she offers nothing else. Which, sadly, is what The Last Time I Saw You offers--a whole lot of nothing.
4.5 stars. I enjoyed this book a lot, and was kept guessing until the very last page about all the details of what was going on. It was a fun, fast read, in which my suspicions were ever-changing. Though I was racing to see how it would end, I’m now bummed it’s over. Another Liv Constantine book I thoroughly enjoyed!
