This was a fun cat and mouse read and while I enjoyed a lot of this book, the ending was not the outcome I wanted and left me wanting more!
Just as the book suggests, Never Have I Ever, is filled with deception, temptation, betrayal, and dark twists.
In this story we find Amy living comfortably alongside her friend Charlotte. The trouble begins when one night Angelica Roux arrives in town and joins their book club night. From there, things begin to spiral and secrets are revealed.
Amy needs to deal with the "devil" soon before her perfect lift begins to crumble all around her.
Great read and one I quite enjoyed!
I really loved this book in a new to me author. The characters and location really and to the story. I can't wait to read the next one. This book keeps you guessing until the end.
I needed to read this book and I didn't even know it! This is one of my favorite books. I forgot how Jackson's writing and characters make you love them and get involved in their lives. If you didn't realize it yet, I highly recommend this book!
I adore all of Joshilyn's tales. She speaks from a voice that knows what she writes. She knows the characters and the settings like she's been there and lived with the people she writes about. This story, with its invader to the balance of things, was probably the most mysterious of Joshilyn's writings. The friendships, the betrayals, the discoveries definitely kept me engrossed in the story. I always look forward to the next book she writes.
I really enjoyed this book! It had many twists and turns that kept me turning pages. The writing was good, with good character development and good attention to detail. I found Amy to be a likable character despite her mistakes and I liked the other characters as well, except for Roux, of course. Anyone who likes a good suspense novel should read this book. They'll love it.
Overall, this one wasn't bad for a thriller. I enjoyed the suburban setting, the plot twists, the showing of the ways characters could lie to or sabatoge each other. I think Jackson tried to handle one too many plot lines here which left the book stretched a bit thin. A fun, unsettling read for October or any time you're looking for a thriller, but certainly not a book that will change your life or leave a lasting impression.
First, I'm OBSESSED with this cover and it drew me in right away. Haven't ever read anything by Jackson, I came to this book with almost no expectations based on her as the author. However, I know this is a departure from her previous books, so I'm curious what those who've read her before think about this shift in genre. I loved the twists and turns this took, and enjoyed the character development. I also enjoyed her writing and would definitely pick up another book of hers.
Never Have I Ever takes you on a crazy ‘who dunnit’ ride in the midst of upper middle class American moms. Highly recommend for those searching for the next great page turner! Tons of great detail, moments to gasp, plot twists, and a satisfying ending!
I can't say that I enjoyed this as much as her other books. I felt like it was way too dramatic from the beginning. Usually her books don't hold as much of a mystery and so she doesn't need that suspense, which didn't feel as real as her personal stories in other books. Still a good story but her other works are better. Not everything needs to be a domestic thriller nowadays.
The characters popped off the page with their strong personalities and I wanted to know what they were "all about". It was like watching a movie and things were unraveling fast.
Wow. This book will surprise you and will definitely leave you still hooked. I kept on getting interrupted by other things and found myself impatiently waiting to get back to this book. I was on the fence initially but this book picked up speed and became one of my 2019 top reads for me. The suspense, the hidden secrets, the twists... get this book. You won't regret it.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF NEVER HAVE I EVER by Joshilyn Jackson. I normally really enjoy Jackson's stories and writing. Something just felt off for me and couldn't continue to read.
I have tried three separate times to read this one, but I think I officially give up. I'm shocked at how much I didn't enjoy this one, since I've liked Jackson's last few books, and THE ALMOST SISTERS is one of my all-time favorites!
Never Have I Ever was a slow burn and I almost put it down, but it was written well enough that I wanted to know what happened. The end was a twist that was just wrong all the ways. I did not figure it out but was shocked 100% by the path the author took. This was not my favorite but I know many others liked it because it was so shocking at the end. Child abuse is a huge trigger for me.
Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson is a wild story of cat-and-mouse that is full of surprises.
I really thought I knew where this story was going. I thought I called it on key plot points. I was completely wrong. As I’m slowly working my ways through thrillers, I do feel some fall into a formula. Well, Never Have I Ever definitely does not follow any kind of formula and is truly very original and shocking—even up until the end. Whew, that ending!
The characters are all written very well—especially Amy. We read the story from her first-person perspective and are there every step away in this unique journey. Reading about her past is hard and felt realistic. Sometimes these stories about a dark past are really random AF but this one is something that you see happen on the news time and time again. Her battle with Roux is really entertaining and even comedic at some parts. And Amy starts to wonder if they have more in common than she would like to admit—or do they?
Final thoughts: an entertaining ride with a complex character in the center of the game.
I thoroughly enjoyed Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson. It is hard for thrillers to take me by surprise but this one managed to keep me on the edge of my seat. The characters were developed enough where you felt like you understood them, but they also kept you guessing. I was happy with how much I enjoyed this one!
3.5 stars!!
My very first novel by Joshilyn Jackson, and I love that she has written a domestic suspense! I did not see the twist, and enjoyed this one. The characters were likeable and could completely believe the storyline hook line and sinker.
I just thought the ending came in quickly, and felt rushed at the end, but I loved the writing so I’ll be excited to check out more from this author.

4.0/5.0: Perfect. Summer. Thriller. “Never Have I Ever ” delivers in all ares: in depth character development, unforeseen twists, seamless interweaving between past and present, and INSANELY GOOD writing from Joshilyn Jackson. I read this book in one day and if you know me at all, I do NOT typically swallow a book whole like I did with this one. Without spoiling the story-line I will say that this book does include topics that might be difficult for some to read, as I’ve found most thrillers do. Enjoy 💕
I am a huge fan of Joshlyn Jackson, so as soon as I heard she had a new book coming out, it was on my list to read ASAP! Never Have I Ever did not disappoint!
.
The book begins with Amy hosting book club. When, new neighbor Roux decides to join
she also takes over with a game similar to Never Have I Ever. What follows is a game of cat and mouse with the two women. Most of the time you don’t know which one is which, who is playing who? There were a lot of surprises in this book, and there was a couple of times that I thought to myself “I have no idea where this is going, must keep reading!”. Needless to say, it was a fast, enjoyable read!
