I love Jill Shalvis's books. Always enjoyable! But this one missed its mark. After starting the book several times I had to put it down - have never finished it. Slightly disappointed since I was looking forward to it.
The Lemon Sisters is another winner from Jill Shalvis. As someone with two sisters myself, I could relate well to the interplay between the two, as well as the desire to keep things close to the vest. Sharing difficult times is hard, and while your sister can be your greatest supporter, she can also be your biggest critic. Bringing love and laughter to real life situations is this author's forte.
I was given this book through NetGalley. The opinions listed are my own. This is the first book I have read by Jill Shalvis. I found it to be a great book and I will look for her books.
This is the story of Mindy and Brooke, the Lemon Sisters. Mindy is having a major melt down and shows up on her sisters doorstep with her 3 children in tow. She tells Brooke she needs time to herself and puts Brooke in charge of her children. Brooke has avoided her hometown for years but decides to head there with the children to face her issues.
This is a story about relationships and healing. There is a lot of laugh out loud humor in this book. Mindys kids all have quirks that make them lovable and laugh out loud funny. Her daughter, Millie, will only answer to Princess Millie, one son likes to dress up in his sisters clothes and the youngest doesn’t talk much, he barks. I loved all the characters, Mindy, her husband Linc and their children, and Brooke and her ex Garrett. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.
This was a well written, well developed story with well developed characters. I loved it and could not put it down. Going home again is never easy and sisters are complex, but family is family. The Lemon Sisters tells the story of Brooke, Mindy, and Mindy's 3 kids. Alone they have manage to cope with crisis, but together will they find away to deal with the future and the past?
Entertaining and full of the heart and humor we expect from Jill Shalvis. This is a story about love - love of family, love of friends and romantic love. A great summer read.
Jill Shalvis shines with a novel of family, love, and loss, illustrating how easy it is for all of us to lose our way. Brooke and Mindy are the sisters who have drifted apart, and each is facing a different crisis point. How they rely on family, friends, and each other to help is a story filled with both heartwarming and laugh-out-loud humorous elements (along with amazingly well-drawn children and pets). Love is never in doubt, but how both of them reclaim their lives is a journey well worth taking.
Loved this book. The relationships between the Lemon sisters themselves had kind of lost it's way and it was nice to see them find their way back to supporting and knowing one another.
Brooke Lemon has a secret from 7 years ago. Mindy Lemon [older sister] is sure her husband is having an affair. Mindy needs away time from caring for 3 kids, working, and her husband, whom she desperately loves. Mindy with 3 kids shows up at Brooke's for help. Brooke says she will take the kids to Disneyland, but at the last minute she turns the car towards Wildstone which was home until 7 years ago. Relationships need dealing with by both sisters with their men and with each other.
A good summer read.
Life has not always been perfect for the Lemon sisters, and they each coped in their own way. But in coping, have they lost what matters most? What starts out as just a favor for a few days may be what saves them both. Filled with moments that make you laugh and make you cry, this one hits each note just right.
It is such a pleasure to read such a well written book! Brooke Lemon's sister, Mindy, shows up at her door one day and she needs help. She's exhausted working all the time and raising 3 kids. On top of that she's worried her husband is having an affair. Brooke wants to help so she takes Mindy's children and lets Mindy crash at her place. Taking care of 3 kids is a lot harder than Brooke thought it would be but it's rewarding too.
She takes the kids to their house and runs into her old boyfriend Garrett who lives next door. He can't forgive her for leaving several years ago without a word after they suffered though a tragedy that changed Brooke's life so much that she feels broken. Trying to make amends, she wants to be a better sister and to apologize to Garrett.
The characters are well defined and dialog between them well written. Excellent read!
This was such a great, well developed story. All of the characters were so realistic and the plot was very well done. I could not put the book down once I started. It is definitely in my reread pile.
Charming and intricate tale about going home again. Family, love and career all play important roles. I got completely wrapped up in Brooke and Mindy. The dialogue was sharp, funny and poignant.
The characters were amazing and told their stories very well. The ending was perfection.
This book is number three in a series (which I haven't read), but it read as a standalone and I didn't feel like I was missing out by not reading the entire series. I really enjoyed The Lemon Sisters. I love sister stories, and this one was almost perfect! It was funny, heartwarming, and filled with drama.
Great story of the complexity of sisters and their relationship. It was an interesting story, that kept your interest. I could not put it down ! A+ to Shalvis !
This book was received as an ARC from William Morrow Paperbacks in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book was a real good lesson for all for everyone that struggles in life and needs their family to their rescue. Brooke and Mindy's relationship was put to the test when they discovered that both were struggling with current and past situations that they discovered so much about themselves and now all they want to do is grow their sisterly bond stronger than ever. The story also got interesting when Brooke came back to her hometown and discovered an old flame that she thought was long gone and when she rekindles with him, she realizes that she needs to fix what she once thought was broken.
We will consider adding this title to our Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
