I really liked this extended preview !! I need the complete book now!! I really loved the characters !!!
Loved Meet Cute. It’s good story that’ll pull on your heartstrings & make you believe in following your heart no matter what the circumstances present. Meet Cute:)
I'm not completely sure how I feel about it yet. I feel like I'm already seeing some things the characters aren't and that makes me a bit wary. I don't like naive and immature characters, especially in their late 20s/early 30s. I hope that's not the case. I did shed a tear or two, so I appreciate that I was already feeling things. I am definitely intrigued and want to read more!
I am really excited to read the rest of the book. This preview was enough to pull me in and I am excited to finish it.
This extended preview of Helena Hunting’s Meet Cute had me hook and excited to read the full novel! I can’t wait to read more about Dax and Kailyn and what Helena has in store for them.
My thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Does this sample/preview tweak my interest? It certainly does. Kailyn and Daxton have know each other since high school, then college, then law school. Kailyn helps Daxton when his parents are killed in a car accident and his special needs sister becomes his sole responsibility. Kailyn has always had a crush on Daxton, but now she carries a grudge against him - believing he unfairly stole the top student ranking at their UCLA law school. I give this preview a 3.75 out of 5.

We all know what a MEET CUTE is, right? That moment in a book or a movie or a play where something "accidentally" happens to bring together the two main characters and set their story in motion. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of every book, especially when it’s done well.
Kailyn and Dax's meet cute happens in the middle of the law school quad when she walks right into the middle of his Frisbee game and he ends up on top of her... Kailyn quickly realizes the guy she's staring up at isn't just another dumb jock, but Daxton Hughes, teen television heartthrob. The star of her favorite show as a teenager. And the star of all her fantasies.
Eight years later, Kailyn is a successful Trust lawyer, and she’s forgotten all about Daxton Hughes. Who she loved—and then hated. She crushed on him hard through law school, but she tried to fight it by always taking the opposite side in every debate and pushing herself to best him. Even after all that time, she’s still holding a grudge for him stealing the top spot in their class by turning in her final paper late.
So, when he walks into her office with his parents, she’s unprepared for the feelings that come back to her… And she’s unprepared for him to return to her life again just six months later, and to bring tragedy and an adorably grumpy little sister in need of a conservator and a mother figure…
I've been reading Helena's words for a long, long time, and I'm not sure why I hesitated on finally reading her original work for so long, because her books always leave me feeling swoony and happy and just sigh. This book wasn’t easy. It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. There’s a huge tragedy and a lot of heartache and grief, but the way Hunting built this love story between Kailyn and Dax and even Emme around all that, weaving it through, I enjoyed it very much. With the exception of a few annoyances like, if Dax was so in love with Kailyn in law school, how did he not recognize her when he walked into the office with his parents to help set up Emme’s trust?! And don’t get me started on Felix being the one to break the big news about what happened. That felt a little bit rushed to me and I totally admit I rolled my eyes a little because it seemed staged purely for the story. Which I totally get—that’s how books work, but it didn’t feel as seamless and believable as it probably could have. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed this.
I’m definitely looking forward to more from Helena in the future—and I promise no more hesitation!
This is a review for only the excerpt, and not a full ARC. That said, I thought the excerpt was charming, and the plot looked like it was rolling in full-force. It really does start off as a meet-cute - a woman (Kailyn Flowers) meets a celebrity (Daxton Hughes) that was her teenage idol. Then they go toe to toe in law school as friendly rivals....until he seemingly screws her over in order to win the top spot in the graduating class. Things take place a few years after their initial meet-cute, when they're both out of law school and Kailyn has a longstanding grudge against the apparently clueless Daxton who seeks out her legal help when his family life is hit by tragedy. I'm not really sure if I'll pick up this book for myself or not - it has a nice premise, but I don't feel as if the preview was enough to sell me on buying the book outright. I'll probably peruse a little further at the store.
extended preview
enemies to lovers with cute sexy scenes. Kailyn and Daxton meet when they are in school but things go wrong and they part ways. when they meet again Daxton is need of help. The preview gives you a good setup for the book and will get you interested in reading it.
This is only a TEASER but, it has me wanting to buy the novel NOW!! I’m already loving Kailyn!! Can’t wait to get my hands on the ENTIRE novel!!
Thank you for the extended preview. It was a great build-up to the book. I am already a big Helena Hunting fan and super excited about the book but the preview amped it up a few spots.
Well, I guess she couldn't call the book "two people die at the beginning and the rest of the novel will be everyone talking about them."
The cover and title suggest a rom-com, the kind of book Helena Hunting excels at. But this is a real turn of plot and intent I think on her part.
I don't begrudge an author changing, or perhaps should we say evolving, in style and genre. I've seen it often enough. I too would get bored writing the same love story, no matter how satisfying for fans. Remember way back when, when Linda Howard shifted from love stories to psychodramas and paranormal plots? Boy did her fans howl. I followed along if just to keep her writing.
Seems like an interesting read. I had never heard the words meet-cute until I met my South African friends and so far this book starts of that way. I do wish there were some more scenes from the past as it would make me feel that I grew with couple through their relationship instead of coming in at we're going to figure it out phase. Only one chapter of the past. Who knows? There may be some more past memories in the rest of the book. I'm looking forward to reading it. Check out this book for what seems like a cute rom-com in the making.
The preview is long enough to tease the reader with the interaction between Kaiilyn and Daxton and hint of more interesting meetings but still too short! Now, I want to read the rest of the story!
I really enjoyed the first five chapters of Meet Cute by Helena Hunting. This book was high on my TBR list for 2019 and I can't wait to read the rest of the book.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Helena Hunting and NetGalley for this extended preview!
Helena Hunting is the Q U E E N of romance writing. I'm in awe of her. She writes romantic chemistry between two characters SO well. The relationships are believable because they're flawed, each in their own way, and the characters are likable because they seem real.
I don't know how she does it, but Helena keeps knocking these out of the park. I'm not even sure she plays in the same league anymore. She's on another level. Obsessed would be an understatement.
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
I NEED TO BUY THIS ASAP!!! I read the extended preview from Netgalley and I’M DYING!!! I need to know more!! Daxton and Kailyn had that attraction right away and I love how she fangirled about him when they first saw each other.
The writing is fantastic. I love the details that are given to us and I don’t feel like they focus so much in him being a star or former. Also the aunt seems shady haha I’m super suspicious about her though so we will definitely what’s up with her. Just from this preview I can tell it’s a great read.
I will be buying it ASAP!
This preview has me wanting do jump right into the book - as pre usuall i can't wait to meet this new couple to fall deeply in love!!!
Bring on the fun :)
This book is SO CUTE! Right away I was hooked with their adorable “meet cute” and interesting backgrounds. Both characters are very like-able and the plot keeps you interested the entire time. Perfect YA contemporary
I read a preview of this book which was the first four chapters.
They sucked me in and I will be buying the book.
It is hard to give a rating based on the first four chapters because it could end up being a 5 star or a 2 star, based on the first 4 chapters I see a 4 or 5 star but because it was only the first 4 I am giving it a 3..
