Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I found "Tell No One" by Barbara Taylor Sissel to be an addictive, interesting & well written story that had alot of twists & turns.
It pulled me in right away & didn't let me go until its final page.
I enjoyed the author's writing style, how she told the story by connecting her 2 main characters through
alternating chapters.
I would definitely read another book by this author.
Great story that comes with some suspense, mystery, and lots of twists and turns. Thank you to the publishers for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The story goes back and forth between the viewpoints to Harris and Caroline. Caroline's father left her and her mother and Harris is the son of wife #2. With Caroline's aunt facing death soon, she is on a quest to find her father so he can be reunited with his sister one last time. The past dredges up past secrets and the story shows how the past will always cast a shadow over your present. Caroline's father has been missing for many years and she has to go on a wild goose chase to try to find him. The last person she wants to visit is Harris and his mother. Caroline has always resented her dad's second family but they end up holding the answer she so desperately needs, even if it is not the answer she wants to find.
I like the twist at the end. I expected something similar at one point in the story when Harris gets triggered by an argument between him and his son but didn't quite expect this outcome. I especially like that the book included book club questions at the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
I love author’s that can describe a scene and you are immediately there, you close your eyes and you picture the scene. This author does that for me.
Family drama told in voices of two step siblings, who had never met. Both are faced with hard issues...do they do what’s right or do what’s easy? Caroline finds out her husband is doing something illegal and it could land her in prison. Harris has an addiction and has seen a robbery. Now, he’s being blackmailed. A lot going on in this book: addiction, marital issues, missing person, the dark side of college recruiting, and lots of secrets. It unfolds at a pace slow enough to suck you in and takes off from there. Characters are situations are raw, true, flawed.
I truly enjoyed the pacing of the story and the well-written characters. This book took me by surprise. It kept me interested throughout the story and I needed to see what was going to happen. I would recommend this story to all thriller and who-done-it lovers.
I have tried a few times to get into this story with little success. I love this premise, but I guess it just isn't for me.
I really enjoyed reading Tell No One.
In the story, Caroline Corbett wants nothing to do with her father, Hoff, a man who abandoned her as a young girl and then vanished from her life almost thirty years ago. But when her beloved aunt expresses a dying wish to see him once more, Caroline, despite her failing marriage and other personal troubles, drops everything to look for him.
It was easy to follow and the characters were believable.
Caroline Corbett is determined to fulfill her dying aunt’s wish. She wants to be reunited with her brother who has not been seen by any family member in years. Caroline’s father, Hoff, left her family and remarried when she was young. He was never a part of their lives and she felt neglected by his actions. The search for Hoff gives Caroline a break from her own difficulties. Her marriage is at a crossroads and the business she shares with her husband has been mismanaged. Because of this, Caroline finds herself absorbed in the task of locating her father. Her search leads into his mysterious past and pushes her to begin sorting out her future. This was an intense, emotional ride.
#TellNoOne was a good read. It took me longer than usual to finish this novel as it wasn’t as quickly paced as I would have liked. I struggled with reading Harris’ chapters as I found him extremely unlikable and weak. This novel was a haunting look at how your childhood and parents can affect your entire adult life and behaviors. Overall, I enjoyed it for a casual chilly night read, but I have enjoyed other books by this author far more.

This book will take you down a twisted, chilling path as the truth is unveiled layer after suspenseful layer. The multiple story lines weave together to make for an explosive conclusion.
A chilling psychological thriller that will have you hooked from the start. Highly recommended.
This is a great book! Definitely add to a must read list! The characters are great and the story is well written!
5/5. This was great well-written thriller! I went in blind to this because the plot sounded interesting. I flew through it and will be reading more from this author. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the book!
There are two things I love in a book – well-rounded characters and a good mystery. Tell No One
certainly delivers on both of these. Yet, I found it exceedingly difficult to get into this story. The
cover on this book really jumped out at me and I had heard good things about author Barbara Taylor
Sissel, the author of “What Lies Below”. Tell No One is her tenth book.
Carolyn’s life is crumbling around her as she deals with her husband lying to her, her beloved Aunt’s
terminal diagnosis and her tumultuous relationship with her aging mother. It is no wonder that
when her Aunt begs her to find her father, she is more than happy to abandon reality and set off on
a wild goose chase to find the father that let her down so brutally many years ago.
Harris is Carolyn’s stepbrother, whom she never met. Carolyn’s father, Hoff, raised Harris as his own
son until an accident triggered Hoff to abandon his new family without a word. Harris has his own
issues (oh, so many issues!). As secrets that have laid dormant for so long are dredged to light, the
effects are life-shattering in ways that Carolyn could never have conceived.
I was nearly ready to give up on this book around page 50 but held out hope it would get better.
Unfortunately, it didn’t. When reading the omniscient sections, the writing was superb, even if the
storyline seemed far-fetched at times (so far-fetched). However, whenever the characters interacted
with each other, the responses were inappropriate or unauthentic. The dialogue was forced and
characters prone to over-reaction. For example, the way Jay and Carolyn were talking to each other
and the guilt expressed by Carolyn during their brief interaction, I was certain that there was an old
friendship or possibly that they dated. But a few pages later we learn that they haven’t seen each
other since he was fourteen and took her fishing once. ONCE. It didn’t fit.
While the characters are certainly well rounded and full of flaws, there was just too much going on.
They were all very deeply troubled and so many bad things had happened to them. The back stories
would not have been out of place in Days of our Lives. I like my drama a little more realistic (and,
yes, I realise some people have very tragic lives. Just not so many in such small cast). The troubles
that each character faced personally seemed to overshadow the main storyline at times. Instead of
propelling the story forward, the personal problems seemed like an unnecessary detour down a side
road that left me disorientated when, finally, the book managed to find its way back to the main
highway.
This book is marketed as a thriller, but it left me underwhelmed. The ending was in plain sight (yet it
still took an age to get there). I am unable to recommend this book. There are so many better
options out there.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for a copy of the book. This review is my own
opinion.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. Brilliant book written by a brilliant author. Just like her other books that were great this one falls into the category.
Unfortunately, Tell No One was not for me - I am having a hard time focusing lately and this one just did not grip me or hold me.
This is a great book for sports enthusiasts who love a family drama suspense. Two stories intertwine together... Caroline searches for the father who abandoned her, to make his sister, her dying aunt happy. While she is looking for Hoff, her father, the book also tells the story from the point of Harris. Harris has a big secret and idolized Hoff... will his secret come out in the open? Lots of suspense, family drama and scandal. It could have used some more character development and been a bit shorter.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the storyline of this book, a daughter looking for her father after 30 years and the secrets long hidden.
The characters were good and the story was jam packed with the lives of the main characters, but not enough to take you away from Carolines search to found Hoff.
This was a great read for curling up on a cold Autumn night!
Thank you netgalley.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Tell No One by Barbara Taylor Sissel.
This book started out fairly strong, unfortunately I just could not keep interest in it. I felt like it was all wind up, no action. I tried listening and reading and I only made it halfway through before losing interest.
This is such a hard review to write, but I just couldn't give this more stars. It was slow throughout, with too much of a focus on character development and not enough on plot. The ending alone made it lose a star or maybe even two for me. Not only had I already figured it out, but the thoughts of the main character Caroline were so frustrating when she figured out the truth. Maybe if I had connected to the characters more I might have liked this better. Looks like quite a few other readers enjoyed it, but it was not for me. Thank you to the publisher for an advance copy.
