This was a psychological thriller, but so much more at the same time. There were some real layers to this book and I was enthralled the entire time.
Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
OK, Wow!!! Sarah Denzil sure knows how to write a story that will catch your attention hook line and sinker. I felt sure that this was going to be one of those stories that I could figure out from the very beginning what was going to happen, but no way! Not with this one!
Kat is a woman that has a very dark past and has been through just about everything you can think of. When Kat got pregnant with Grace, it was an accident and Kat knew that she had to learn how to love this baby that she had to take care of. Not only did Kat learn how to love Grace, but would do anything in the world for her. When she receives the news that Grace was found dead in a quarry, Kat vows to find her killer, When Kat is given the news that they think Grace committed suicide, she still vows to find her killer. There is no way that Grace could have killed herself or had any reason to, Kat is sure of that.
When Kat starts digging into Grace's life and talking to her friends and the parents of her friends, Kat wonders if she even knew her daughter. This monster that they are painting Grace to be could not have been her daughter. Not the daughter she knew at least!
I had no idea where this story was going to take us readers, but let me just tell you, I never guessed the ending. We are taken on a long and twisted story for Kat to find out what was really going on with Grace. I was glued to this story until I finished it. Sarah Denzil sure does know how to write to keep your attention. I am a fan of hers for sure! I can't wait to see what is in store for us readers from her next! Great job with this one!

Thankyou to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author, Sarah A Denzil, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Only Daughter in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I thought this book provided a good read though it was heartbreaking at times.
Worth a read.
Excellent writing that keeps you gripped from the start. Kate refuses to believe that her daughter would commit suicide and sets out to find the truth. Highly recommended
Such a tense, and disturbing story, but totally unputdownable!!! This is one of those titles that you will read in one sitting - fantastic!
This story is an emotional look at the relationships between mother and child, wife and husband; very heart wrenching at times, filled with twists and turns at every corner, that I just couldn't put down! I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Wow what an amazing book. I just wanted to carry on reading this forever.
This authors style of writing is brilliant and all her books are excellent.
I can’t wait for the next book
From the very start to the very end you’ll be gripped. A mother does not believe her daughter killed herself....and wow! The twists and turns in this book. If one mother will get the answers then this one will!
5/5 on goodreads.
Thanks for the opportunity to have read an ARC of this book. It was gripping, from beginning to end, and with twists galore!!! I didn't see the ending coming, and are still gasping for air!
This had potential but it just wasn't for me. There needed to be more back story and likeable characters as there were none.
Fantastic read! It kept me captivated from the start and constantly questioning in various ways! Was it suicide? If not, who is the killer? Why did the main character Kat make the choices she did? I felt that Charles was a bit of a pansy and maybe his character could be a bit more but overall a great read that I would recommend!
I really enjoyed this book. It was full of tension, lies and manipulation. I couldnt stop reading it . Your emotions will be on a rollercoaster. Cant wait to read more of her work.
While the book kept my interest until the end, it was a very, very slow burn. The placing seemed to drag until the very end, but the character development was what kept me engaged the entire time. Each character was complicated and thoroughly unlikeable, yet relatable at the same time. This could only happen in the hands of a talented writer such as Sarah Denzil.
Kat had a poor upbringing. After poor behaviour at school she was told she had a personality disorder & was more or less incapable of empathy or love. The one exception she thinks, is the way she feels about her lovely seventeen year old daughter. Grace has everything she would have wanted for herself as a teen; a stable home, loving parents, good friends & a bright future ahead. When the police arrive one night to say that Grace's body has been found at the local quarry along with a suicide note Kat refuses to believe that Grace took her own life. She is determined to find out the read story & to make someone pay for taking her daughter from her.
To start with I found Kat very difficult to like- mainly because she is determined to present herself in a bad light. This was because of the way she had been almost brainwashed into believing herself to be such a horrible person. As the book went on I began to feel sorry for her & like her I wanted answers.
This was a good story that kept the reader on their toes. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
This book was a fairly quick read and had a lot to it. Kat's only daughter is dead. The police have concluded it is a suicide but Kat knows there has to be more to the story. As she and her husband find their way through the sorrow, Kat keeps looking for information behind his back. She finds out her daughter is not at all who she thought and finds that the people she thought she knew and called her friends were also not who they seemed. Kat's past unfolds and gives the reader quite the shock. A lot of it was predictable to me, however, that didn't take away from it being a good book. I thought it was thought-provoking and eye-opening being a mother to a much younger daughter. Kat struggled with a disorder that made her question if she could love anyone, but she was sure she loved her daughter. I thought it was a great story of a mother-daughter relationship despite the tragedy. It kept me hooked throughout and I do recommend it.
*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* Denzil's 'Only Daughter' begins with every parent's worst nightmare - her teenage daughter Grace has been found dead in the bottom of a quarry. The police believe that it is suicide and indeed, Grace has left a note. Devoted mother Kat won't accept this finding and launches herself into an investigation into what really happened to her daughter. This is a powerful novel that examines a huge range of relationships and emotions. It moves from the present, to the past, as we discover what has led Kat to lead the life of privilege she now lives. And what dark secrets she hides in her past. An intriguing and thoroughly enjoyable read. I did not see the ending coming.
Another fantastic thriller! Wow this was my first novel from Sarah A. Denzil and I cannot wait to read so many more! Honestly it kept you guessing the whole way... a must read! I think you will fall into this story!
