The author created a venomous tale of a man, who perpetually, headed down the wrong way of a one-way street. It was a deep, look into the despicable side of a desperate human being. This was not so much the story of a fighter on a comeback trail into the ring. Instead, it blatantly displayed the inner turmoil of a hopeless, sadomasochist - pain.

The character-driven storyline followed Ritchie Abruzzi on his descent down to the gates of hell. When he wasn't taking underground, bare-knuckle fights in the rat-infested venues of Los Angeles, his pleasure came in the form of physically hurting someone, being hurt by someone or inflicting pain upon himself. There was no beginning; there was no end.
