At first, I didn't realize that this book is part of the series, which makes me wish that I read the book/books before this one to get an idea of what is going on. Overall I thought it was well written & an interesting read. But would have liked a little bit of background information, without the need to read the books before this one.
The Cliff's End Castle Guards work a variety of cases in Mermaid Precinct. This is part of a series but after I got through first few pages it worked just find as a stand alone. The three teams of detectives each worked a case with one case being the most important. Look for surprises as the identity of the Pirate Queen is revealed. Loved the small scenes at the end of the book highlighting the different characters.
This was a fun little book to read. It seems like this work belongs in a series, from what I could see on the author’s page, but it was fairly easy to follow the different groups of law enforcement officers of Cliff’s End. The characters were diverse and fairly well-developed for such a short book, but there seemed to be a few gaps in the story (likely from previous entries in the series). I especially enjoyed the investigation into the Pirate Queen’s murder and the revelation of Rodolfo’s past. While I came into the world of Cliff’s End without knowledge of previous events, Mr. DeCandido maintains the ability to tell a good story without the requirement to read previous entries in the series.
This futuristic novel showed some promise initially, but ultimately it lost steam and I have marked it as a DNF-Maybe I'll try re=reading it in the future.
I’m gathering that this novel is apart of a series, which makes me wish that I read the book/books before this one to get an idea of what is going on.

Book is about elves, dwarfs and humans. Story centers around detectives trying to solve crimes. Plot was not that compelling.
Mermaid Precinct is part of a larger series of Precinct novels by this author. It is a mystery/thriller, with a twist. Not everyone in Cliff's End is human.
Well written, and thought out story, with an interesting premise. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of supernatural mysteries, sci-fi, and of course, Mermaids!
At first, I didn't realize that this book is part of the series, and quite advance of the series. Even though it sometimes become overwhelming, but I still can't put the book down due to its tale of crime and investigation.
On to the story itself, Mermaid Precinct offer a fantasy set up. Where human lives with other races such as elves, dwarfes, and even troll. They are also the mixed breed. I do feel the character introduction is somewhat in hurry and confusing, especially in the beginning. But maybe it was a part of jumping directly to the middle of series.
We get offered at least 3 story of C&I in this book. One seems like effortlessly solved, one need more rigourous work, and one is seemingly unsolved but the author slip us a story from the point of view of the guilty one so for readers it could be considered case is solved.
All in all, it was enjoyable read. Thank you #netgalley and eSpec Books for providing the arc of #MermaidPrecinct
