"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet, sexy romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!
Being the epitome of a cover whore, I was initially drawn to the sexy, bad boy image and the promise of something dark and edgy. Holy Moly, I definitely got what I was hoping for! Brick is an intense, fast-paced, and brutally in your face read, with a dark and gritty storyline that has the reader glued to the pages throughout the entire book. This is most certainly not a story for the faint at heart, as readers are presented with a plot that is jam-packed with criminals, abuse, danger and mayhem in its most basic form. I always appreciate an author that provides readers with a well-written plot, exceptional world building, and edge of your seat suspense; Jen Davis, you absolutely nailed it with Brick.
Talk about a guy who does really, really bad things but has a heart of gold and is super hot... yeah that is Brick!!
There are some crazy dark moments in this one but there had to be to really experience the story.
Great opener to the series as I already want to know more about Kane, Will and Xander!!!
Moving onto Kane right now!!!
Being known as Sucre’s enforcer, Brick is used to getting his hands dirty: during the day at his construction job or at night, when he spills blood. His life is altered when he meets Liv, a blonde bombshell who sees beyond his busted knuckles and brutal exterior. Attempting to separate his two worlds, they suddenly collide and Liv finds herself in harm's way. Using the skills he has collected over the years, Brick will do anything to defend and protect the only person who actually sees him for him.
Generally speaking, this series was a snooze fest and I had to push myself to finish this till the end. There was action, romance and suspense yet there wasn't anything pulling me in. It was just b-o-r-i-n-g. The characters were dull, the premise was mediocre, I felt no connection to the story and I just ultimately regretted picking this up. Unfortunately this just wasn't my cup or tea.
I really loved the story of Brick and thought that his history was really interesting. There is a point in the middle of the book were I got frustrated because certain things didn't make sense to me, but it was as if Jen knew that was going to happen and starts answering all of them. It was an "ahhh, that makes sense" moment for sure. I really loved Liv and thought that she was really well written. She was innocent, a little naive, and sweet, but it was still believable. All of the side characters were interesting and gave you enough to make you want to know more. Will Robby get his love interest? What is with Kane and the boss lady? What happened to Izzy and why did Will go to jail. I need more for sure!
This book was hot and raw and made me fall in love with liz and Brick from the start. I adored how much Brick just wanted to take of Liz and keep her safe even if it was causing him to stay away. He was the perfect alpha hero. I can't wait to see more of these guys in Kanes book next. All of the guys from this up and coming series are sexy raw and compelling and I cant wait to read their stories.
4 stars
Slow starting and I felt some of it just drug along but worth it to get over the hump to the ending. I really liked Liv's character.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
BRICK by Jen Davis is quite a ride! Filled with violent acts and power plays. Truly a story of victimization, preying on others. At the heart of this book is a love story. Liv a teacher beats Cancer and meets Brick. A member of her brother's construction crew. Brick has a night time job working for a Drug Kingpin. Their attraction is immediate, but it's a love they must fight for and survive.
I loved this book! It has pretty everything you could want. Have some tissues handy.
Brick and Olivia have met under the worst circumstances ever but that doesn't stop them from wanting each other even if it's the worst idea on the planet and the most dangerous. Find out what happens when his boss is bound and determined to keep him under his thumb. Will they make it against all odds?
**3.5 Stars**
This was my first read from this author and it started out really slow. Unfortunately, so slow I almost stopped reading. It picked up maybe half way through or a little after, and the last third of the book I found to be very good and very engaging. Overall I feel like the story could have been told more concisely, but I did enjoy the story line. I am definitely going to try and give the next book in the series a read, but i hope that it starts off with more action and a little more faster paced than this book.
The only reason I gave this book 4 stars is that I had a hard time getting over how brutal Brick was forced to be.
I did enjoy the romance side of this book. Liv is able to see past the horrible things that Brick has had to do in order to keep his grandma safe.
