A very easy read with two interesting characters. I found the romance very believable, and I wanted them to be happy.
However the story telling wasn’t that strong, I didn’t think that the prologue was good at all. In fact it was pretty idiotic. If I hadn’t had the book already downloaded I wouldn’t have bothered. But once the book itself started I really did like it.
There’s some odd and well used storylines that I felt the author could have done better with.
I love sports romance (especially ice hockey), and this story has lots of ice hockey drama. Jake Pennington is a good guy. He’s had a lot of heartache, losing his family, but he had his best friends by his side throughout, until he didn’t. When he thought he’d lost everything he went to his grandfather’s cabin, and that’s when he found purpose again. Mackenzie Eden is tenacious, she will not take no for an answer, no matter how many times the stubborn sexy ice hockey player knocks her back. Emotional, funny, sexy, and a whole lot of drama make this book a firm favourite for me. I love Penny Dee’s writing, it’s addictive, her characters make for interesting reading, always doing the unexpected. A romantic, fun and easy read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
I really loved the main characters of this book and would have given it a 5 star rating, except I felt like the author tried to get too much into the story. Almost like she couldn't decide between 2 plots so she used them both. They were both excellent and would have carried a book on its own, but because they both had their own tragic issues and both had to face them, it was too much and too little. I would recommend next time, pick one and really get into it so that we can feel more tension. Make us feel the terror, or the heartbreak instead of making 2 plots fit and then having to almost breeze over them. All and all, I would read the next one.
Hot hockey romance. Read this book in one day. Light rating, good old fashion love story with some excitement sprinkled in
First losing his family then his best friend, Jake finds his world crashing down and now all he can hold on to is a half-empty bottle of bourbon. Then just when he's drowning his sorrows at a local bar, Mackenzie struts in and knocks the breath out of him, proclaiming that she's his new sports agent. Chasing after him for a chance to help him make a comeback, she follows him to his grandfathers logged cabin in which they both get snowed in after getting hit by a winter snow storm. For four long days, sexual tension rises and the duo find it more than difficult to denied the growing attraction. And just before they know what hit them, an unlikely romance ensues.
Once I saw Penny Dee name on the cover, I jumped for joy to read another series by the talented author. She has always had a way with words and is easily able to create a solid group of characters that anyone is able to relate to. The real life struggles of the lead characters brought a different element to the book, arising readers emotions and allowing them to wish for their happily ever after. Mackenzie and Jake were the missing puzzle piece for each other and I have loved how they were able to encourage one other to overcome their past struggles. Their witty banter had me dying and their strong connection made me swoon. Moreover, like any typical relationship, there are some highs and lows yet Mackenzie and Jake are able to persevere and create a lasting love. Once again, Penny Dee blew me out of the water with this captivating sports romance series.
Sports romance is a favourite of mine, and anything Hockey related, draws me like a fly to honey. In Come Undone, Penny Dee has provided, humour, emotion, drama and characters that truly resonate with the reader. The storyline was easy to follow, and the overall plot was interesting and keeps the reader engaged. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I’m hoping there will be many more to come.
This hockey romance was a funny refreshing read. It’s quick and short with enough of a plot to keep you turning the pages. The story line flows nicely and the characters are well developed and fun. It was predictable at times but not overly cliche. I liked that it doesn’t go overboard with the hockey theme though you do meet some of the players which are funny and spike your interest. This book is steamy with a bit of suspense, overall I laughed outloud a lot.
I really enjoyed this book. It had all of my catnip elements- hockey, romance and a great suspenseful twist. I received this as an ARC via netgalley for an honest review.
**4.5 Stars**
Penny Dee is a fairly new author to me, but I can definitely say that this is my favorite read of hers to date.
This story was both immensely sad and tragic, but also somewhat hopeful and uplifting. I enjoyed both Jake and Z as characters and thought they were perfect together.
I read this story in one sitting and found it to be very engaging. There were some definite unexpected turns. I would recommend this book!!!
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this contemporary sport romance. Jake and MacKenzie make an adorable, sweet couple and I'm glad that she didn't give up on him. Jake is in a depressive hole after losing his family and his best friend. He gives up hockey out of a sense of guilt and despair. MacKenzie is determined to get him back into the game and a few days in an isolated cabin gets them both closure and a beautiful romance.
