The Perfect Wife was a stellar adventure in a world where sentient robots are becoming a reality. I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns that kept me glued to my kindle app. The book was truly great, but there were a few things that bothered me. There really is no way for someone (even a technological genius) to transfer memories from a human being to a robot, which made all the flashbacks somewhat of a stretch. I also found the depths of the protagonist’s feelings and thought processes to be a little much. I don’t see how an actual robot can have quite that many layers.

JP Delaney did not disappoint. The Perfect Wife is a brilliantly written book. I have recommended it to all of my friends and cannot wait to discuss their thoughts and my own over coffee. A perfect blend od great storyline and character development.

“ Living forever will become as simple as making an upload.”

Imagine This: You wake up in a hospital bed and you immediately know something is wrong. Your husband, Tim, tells you that you’ve been gone for 5 years— as in DEAD.
“You’re saying the real me died what 5 years ago, and you somehow brought me back like this?”

What in the hell am I doing here… you wonder to yourself?! You try to move, but your body doesn’t cooperate. Are you paralyzed? You feel like the tin man from The Wizard of Oz and you need to be properly oiled. But, no, you aren’t paralyzed— your husband and his coworkers have turned you into a robot, yes a ROBOT, or “co-bot” as they like to call it.

Your name is Abby and your entire world has changed, you can no longer physically express emotion like crying and you can’t even enjoy life’s simple pleasures like eating, drinking, and having sex. You can’t even take a shower because your new body will be ruined. Not only are you missing out on the gratification of these desirable notions, you can’t bear to look at yourself in the mirror or even dress yourself. You can literally take your “skin” off. Creepy as hell, right?

Try to conceptualize what humans think of you as well— How does it feel to be referred to as “It?” instead of “Her” or for people to discuss Abby as if she’s still dead, when you are right here, you’re her! Even though you aren’t supposed to feel emotion, it hurts. You will never be the original, you will always be second best. You are in competition with yourself. People don’t want her here, but she didn’t ask to be created, or did she? Her husband assures you that this is what you would’ve wanted. But you are no longer an individual, you are a possession. “ Just as a dog can be taught with treats and blows to adore its master, so an empathetic AI can be trained to love.”

“This tool has a mind of her own, and she’s GOING to use it.”

You’re desperate to find out what happened 5 years ago... when what everyone refers to as a “ traumatic accident” occurred. Did you commit suicide? Were you murdered? Was it really just a frightful accident? There is no body and no evidence to prove anything. You truly can’t be sure; you life seems FAR from perfect. So what do you do, you start digging for the answers. However, if you find out the truth will you simply be replaced by another machine that is given less memories?

There are SO many layers to this story from infidelity and emotional abuse to infatuation and drugs. Tim and Abby’s son, Danny, also has Heller’s Syndrome aka Child disintegrative disorder, causing brain and nervous system problems, making it hard for him to communicate. Danny, is already set in his ways and leaves Abby to struggle to keep up on the correct actions and terminology that’s he’s been learning for five years without her.

This is a story that you won’t soon forget; it is truly unique. J.P. Also refers to Abby as “You” throughout the entire novel, which forces the reader to make a connection with this character. It’s almost as if you’re the one who woke up to a world of chaos.

I really enjoyed J.P. Delaney’s “ The Girl Before” but this one is even better! I cannot wait to read more of her work!

A brilliant thriller, with twists and turns that you won’t see coming and a utterly unpredictable ending. I was truly shocked.

This book is now out as of August 2019, please get your hands on it!

An AI story at its best. Reminds me a bit of the movies, “I, Robot” and “Bicentennial Man” combined.

Thank you to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars!

I haven't been in the mood to either read or write reviews, but I did manage to get through The Perfect Wife. It isn't because of "sheltering in." I'm doing fine. It has to do with the fact that I got a new sewing machine about a month ago (one of my other hobbies) and the weather is getting nice so I want to be in the yard or garden. Hope you are all doing well and keeping busy during these strange times...PLEASE stay home...

So, The Perfect Wife. The premise was a bit out there, but I was still entertained and wanted to find out what really happened. Abbie awakes in what she thinks is a hospital to find her husband sitting next to her. She feels weird. Not just injured, but weird. Tim, her husband, tells her very quickly that she is an android that he has created and given some of Abbie's memories. It seems that Abbie died five years ago (under mysterious circumstances that he won't talk about) and because he couldn't live without her, he commanded his company to help him create Abbie.

Tim is the Steve Jobs of the robotics world. He's driven and works his employees to the bone. We get flashbacks from his employees' perspective about how he and Abbie met, their tumultuous relationship, their falling in love, and their problematic marriage.

Abbie, in the meantime, is trying to figure out what happened to her five years ago. She finds some evidence of her former life and enlists the help of some people to help her figure things out. It seems Tim was tried for her murder but was ultimately acquitted. She begins to realize that their marriage may have had problems, even though she doesn't have those memories. And those problems may have partly stemmed from the fact that they have a severely autistic son.

That's probably enough of the plot to get you going. It moved quickly and was interesting. Abbie's family is suing Tim to have Abbie "turned off." There are betrayals and surprises along the way. It's a weird premise but an interesting story. I had read a Delaney book before and will continue to do so.

Luv'd it! The premise was mind blowing, almost unbelievable; but after reading Delaney's note at the end it made sense.

Recommend to all thriller fans.

What is the Perfect Wife? Is there one description that would describe a perfect wife? The Perfect Wife will take readers on a thrilling roller-coaster ride of intrigue, mystery, and suspense. Readers won't be sure what is real and how much they can depend on the narrator until the last page of the book. If you are looking for a gripping read, don't miss this one!

The concept behind this book was very interesting. It deals with Artificial Intelligence and how one could potentially design a robot with all the "memories" of a person based on that person's electronic footprint (social media, online shopping, online maps, online travel bookings, Uber usage, Uber eats, etc.). It was quite though provoking and a little scary. The story itself was a page turner, which was quite entertaining though a little far fetched in places. A partner in a company designing robots with AI, decides to create a robot that has all the "downloadable" memories of his dead wife. This robot slowly acquires more information on the woman and starts to wonder how she died as no body was ever found. 5 stars despite the really unrealistic parts!

I really loved the author’s first book, The Girl Before, but these last two I haven’t been as impressed with. While reading The Perfect Wife, I found that I enjoyed the beginning of the book more than I did the ending. I also am not a big fan of science fiction, so those elements really weren’t really my favorite. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this book.

I love books that are different with lots of imagination and good content. It is the first book I read of the author and I loved it. I love authors that think outside the box, take their chances and explore. It contains a contrast of much suspense and new sci fi ( futuristic) which makes it interesting and unique. Well written in fastpaced and very ingenious. The plot is not predictable at all and you wonder what will happen until the end. Excellent final I must add, it leaves you thinking ...Thanks to Netgalley for allowed me to read it. The opinions are only mine.

This is my third read by J.P Delaney and I am glad to say that I was not disappointed. I went into this book with the assumption that this will follow a woman who has been possibly in a coma for 5 years & has no idea what has happened to her. Boy was I pleasantly surprised as this story unfolded. I was not expecting the sci-fi aspect at all but I really enjoyed it.
I thought Abbie was an interesting character, The way the memories unfolded for her & the way the story released the past was extremely intriguing.
the chapters alternate with past & present giving you a view of a marriage in many different perspectives. There were two plot twists that I was not expecting but found the ending satisfying as well. I will continue to read Delaney's future work.

This is my first JP Delaney book. I really enjoyed this one. I was hooked at the beginning, but the middle seemed to drag on. Then the ending picked up again. Overall, I really enjoyed this thriller.

This is a well written suspense novel despite not having an interest in a sci-fi feel. Don't let you put this off or you'll miss out from a good story. The dual narration sometimes took you out of the story but it wasn't unbearable. With all the twists and turns you won't be able to guess the ending that's in store for you..

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group and JP Delaney for an advance copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me by surprise because I did not expect the science fiction to sneak up on me as it did. Our main character Abbie has endured a terrible accident , but her loving husband has found a way to bring her back from the dead. We follow Abbie as she wakes up and learns about what happened while she was "gone" for the past 5 years. I found this story to be totally addictive and couldn't wait to see how it ended. Our unreliable narrator was likable yet I found myself wondering what she was really like in her previous life. Excellent twists and surprises throughout! Recommended to all psychological thriller fans as well as those who enjoy sci-fi and futuristic stories!

The Perfect Wife by JP Delaney was well written and suspenseful. I learned things about something that I had no previous interest in, technology and robotics, which was an added bonus. This book was so interesting; I was so intrigued and excited to read it. The dual narration was at times frustrating simply because I was so engrossed in the current story line that I wanted to keep reading about that. Absolutely full of twists and turns, I could not have guessed the ending at all, a roller coaster of emotions that I just was not expecting at all. 5/5 stars.

i was born into a family of readers. My mom loves a good mystery (must be where I got it from), and my dad can tear through a sci-fi book. This story was a perfect mix of my parent’s tastes, so I really found myself identifying with it.

I started it on the plane on my way to vacation, and couldn’t put it down. I often hypothesize the endings and twists to the books I read. I came up with several for this book, but none were close to the actual ending.

I highly suggest this book!
