I was very excited to receive an ARC from Netgalley as I haven't read a Danielle Steel book in ages. Maddie is a successful photographer with three grown children who decides to revisit the past by taking a road trip, and a much needed vacation. I found this story to be very entertaining and heartwarming . I look forward to reading more of her books.
This was a fun quick light-hearted read - perfect for Summer. I did enjoy the lead character and her strength. Read it in two days.
Maddie is a successful and internationally known photographer. She almost never sees her grown children, but doesn't want to intrude on their busy lives. And her love life in nonexistent. When her decision to clear out a closet leads to a fall off a ladder and a broken ankle, she is forced to take stock of her life. She decides to look up the three men that she had loved and left. Maddie’s trip into the past is filled with surprises, good and bad, and changes her life forever. Sure to tug at the heartstrings, and make parents rethink their relationship with their grown children. Highly recommended.
Interesting enough story about a woman who explores whether or not she made the right life choices. The problem I have with Danielle Steel books is the characters are always rich and famous, so it is difficult to identify or even care about the main characters.
This to me is a 'typical' Danielle novel. What I did notice especially as of late with her books is they are all about older single mothers and their quests to rediscover themselves and their families. Maddie is a 58 year old single mother of three adult children. As she works to reestablish herself, Maddie moves into an old converted firehouse. Why looking for something in a closet, Maddie falls and hurts her ankle, but not before finding a box of old love letters from former lovers. She sets off on a mission to find each of the former loves by a cross country trip, hoping to find answers and herself. Her daughter Deanna thinks she is crazy and is completely unsupportive of her mother, claiming she is "too old" to be doing a trip like this as well as living on her own. Her other two children are quite different from their sister and welcome their mom's independent spirt with open arms.
As she embarks on her journey, she discovers more about herself than she ever expected. The journey is met with tears, joy, heartbreak and truth.
A great story full of family drama!
This was my first Danielle Steel and I loved it! I did think there was too much background at the beginning about Maddie's kids that made it a bit slow, but it was integral to the story. I especially loved the idea of her reconnecting with the men in her past because everyone likes to wonder about the choices they have made and if they were the right ones. Definitely recommend.
I have been a Danielle Steel reader since I was in middle school...I have faithfully read each and every new release and I will continue to do so. That being said this was one of my least favorite books... I felt that I kept reading the same stuff over and over... The main character constantly rehashing why she went on the journey she did. That got very annoying to me. I hated all the "kids" from the book. As a mother I did not understand how the kids could distance themselves from a good mother, and how a mom would allow that, but maybe others live like that.
Even though it was not my favorite book, Danielle Steel is one of my favorite authors and always will be.
Did I make the right choices through out my life? This is the story of one woman contemplating her choices. She makes a decision to check out some of those decisions on a road trip of discovery! I don't want to give the story away, but I will say this really was one of the best books by Danielle Steel in awhile. My only complaint is the daughter Deanna was horrible and since she shares my name it irked me! Definitely a great weekend or vacation read!
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review.
A successful, single woman decides to make contact with some of the men that had been part of her love past! In doing this, she not only gets closure but finds a new relationship that just might be the perfect one. I loved the plot because I’m sure many women would love to see some of the men from their past. I’ve thought of it myself and love the idea of seeing if you made a mistake back then! Slow at first but the story picked up steam and came roaring into the final pages. Four stars for a great romance!
Maddie is a professional photographer and single Mother of 3 grown children who finds at age 58, that she needs to take the time to reflect on her life, her choices, her relationship with her grown children and the men that have been in her life. She is fortunate enough to be able to time the time to re-connect with the men from her past with a cross country road trip. This book is a wonderful story of self-reflection, lost loves, changing relationships with your children. Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy.
* I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.*
I've always said that for me, reading a Danielle Steel novel is like coming home. Lost and Found was no different. I've been reading them probably since I was in the sixth grade, so these are the books I turn to when I just need a bit of comfort food. You're not going to find a book here that will change your life, but it's an easy feel good read, and sometimes I just need a little bit of Happily Ever After. As of today, this book was published over a week ago, and I fully expect our library to get about 5 copies and they'll all circulate as soon as they hit the shelf.
So, our main character, Maddie (in her 50s--- not usual for a DS heroine!) lives in a firehouse. She falls and injures herself and spends her time reading old love letters from former boyfriends. This causes her to go on a journey to look up those exes, and see if her life would have been any different if she had stayed with them.
This book for me was a bit different than her usual ones. Nothing bad really happened. She broke her ankle, but it wasn't life threatening. She had an argument with her daughter, but they got over it. Her ex dies, but even that wasn't as heartbreaking as one of her novels usually is. There wasn't even a breakup between the main couple, which is almost a staple in a DS novel. It's like she all of a sudden changed the formula. But fans of hers are still going to read it. It wasn't a terrible read. Reading this was the equivalent of eating cotton candy made from Splenda while petting kittens in unicorn hats.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. I have been and remain a huge Danielle Steel fan. Lost and Found is a great read and vintage Steel. Madison Allen, a photographer, lives in a firehouse that she has converted into a home and a studio. Maddie falls from a ladder while cleaning out a closet. She breaks her ankle but also discovers a box filled with old love letters and pictures. After a argument with her daughter, Maddie embarks on a road trip. She desires to answer questions about the men she loved and could have married. Wearing a cast and driving a rented SUV, she sets off to reconnect with three very different men—one in Boston, one in Chicago, and another in Wyoming—to know if the decisions she made were the right ones. Maddie feels she has to confront the past. This is a wonderful story about loss and discovery and the journey to make peace with your life choices.
Lost and Found was a beautifully written story about a woman in her fifties who has decided to revisit her past loves in her life and plans a road trip. During this long road trip across the country she explores her own feelings about her own life, meets new people along the way, and comes in touch with her own aging self. The story brings up many things that we grapple with such as appropriate housing as we get older, maintaining our independence and maintaining one's dignity during the aging process. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and as always, Danielle Steel gets her message across to her readers in a beautiful way.
Many thanks to
Lost and Found is a story about a women’s self-reflective journey. Maddie Allen is a famous photographer who is divorced and on her own after raising her three children. She does not have a close relationship with any of her kids, and Maddie leads a quiet life focusing on her work where she excels. Maddie loves her home which is a converted firehouse with a spiral staircase and where she has her studio and offices on the ground floor. After breaking her ankle in a fall and a dress down from her eldest daughter, Maddie decides to take a trip. She wants to see if the choices she made in the past were the right ones. It also allows Maddie to reflect on her life, lay old ghosts to rest and see what the future holds for her. Lost and Found reminds me of Danielle Steel’s earlier books. It is a light women’s fiction story with a heaping helping of romance and a splash of fairy tale (happily ever after). I like the author’s relaxed writing style. It makes the story easy to read and it has a smooth flow. I did not understand how Maddie could let her daughter run roughshod over her and be intimidated by Deanna’s words. Of course, critical comments from family affect us more than remarks from others. There is a significant amount of repetition in the first half of the book. After a while, I knew the information by heart (a little rewriting would have dramatically improved this book). As Maddie’s journey progresses, the story improves. I was especially moved by her Wyoming visit. There were some heartwarming scenes that were touching. I liked seeing the characters develop and the changes in various relationships. I agree with Maddie when she said. “strange things happen in life when you don’t expect them”. Sometimes it helps to look back before moving forward. Lost and Found is sweet story about reflection, family, romance, and choices.
I have read Danielle Steel books for years. She was one of the first authors I read that got me hooked on reading. This book is another winner. The characters are believable and interesting. The storyline is easy to follow and moves right along. Maddie is the heroine. She is a single Mother of three grown children. She’s a photographer and very content with her life alone. My only hesitation to give 5 stars is there seems to be a lot of time where Maddie is “thinking” about how she is feeling or “thinking” about what she is going to do or “thinking” about why she did what she did. I like and admire Ms. Steel’s writing but this book was not my favorite. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy for my honest opinion.
An eye-opening journey of love, forgiveness and expendability. With her trademark story-weaving, Danielle Steel quickly whisked this reader's heart up and carried it along throughout the book. The characters were very connectable, and though the story took some unexpected turns, it was easy to follow and left you wanting more with each turning of the page. It was bittersweet, emotional and had a lighthearted depth in the end. I loved every minute of it!
Madison Allen felt she had lived a fulfilling life until an argument with her eldest daughter led her to question her place in the world at this stage in her life. After a household injury sidelines her from her career for a few weeks, and at her wits end with the envisionment her daughter put into her head of old age and life being over, Maddie sets out on a cross-country drive to put her life into perspective. A walk down memory lane via a box of old photos and letters has her reminiscing about the three men that passed in and out of her life in the years following her divorce as she was raising her three kids alone. She sets out to look up each man and verify in her heart that the decisions she made to get her to this place in her life were justified.
The first couple of visits had her comfortable with the choices she had made, and just as the third visit was on the horizon, a curve ball was thrown and an emotional fallout ensues. In the end, it all comes down to her deciding how much living she still wants to get out of life, and how to fit all of the pieces of her world into the area she wants to revolve.
Lost and Found is written in typical Danielle Steel style . You become part of the story and are immediately connected to the characters.
Madison Allen works and lives alone since all three of her children are grown up and have their own lives. She doesn’t realize how lonely she is until she falls and starts thinking about her past relationships. Her demanding daughter, starts berating her and telling her she is too old to live alone and after an arguement Madison decides to take a road trip to visit her exes and her other children and their families . While on her journey, she meets William who ends up becoming very important to her even though she is leery of relationships .
This is a heartwarming story . Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an Arc in exchange for my honest review.
Lost and Found is the newest contemporary romance from Danielle Steel. This new novel asks and answers one woman’s question of had she made the right choices in her life. The book features an older protagonist with fifty eight year old Madison Allen as she looks back on her life.
Maddie has been divorced for years after her marriage resulted in three children in as many years of marriage all the while her husband dived into affair after affair. Once divorced Maddie put everything she had into giving her children a wonderful life all while building her career as a photographer.
Once Maddie’s children were grown she invested in an old firehouse in Manhattan that had plenty of space for visiting children and grandchildren along with a nice large studio space, however, the kids spread out around the country and rarely visit. One weekend alone Maddie takes a spill off a ladder while cleaning her closets and with her daughter ready to put her in a nursing home after the accident Maddie decides to take a look back on her life and the choices she’s made by taking a road trip across country.
I loved the whole concept behind Lost and Found with Maddie being older yet still very active in her life deciding to see if her major life choices had been the right ones. Who hasn’t thought about the past and wondered what if at some point in their life? It was also nice that along with the romantic side of the story we also get to see improvement in her family’s relationships. Another lovely story by Danielle Steel that makes it easy to see why she’s had such a long writing career.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

3.5 Hearts This is a story about finding yourself not only in your choices you made in your past but where you are right now.
Maddie has a difficult life. Mainly she is a loner. And she has time to reflect on the choices she made, the same questions we would ask ourselves. Why did I marry __? Why did I divorce __? Did I raise my kids right? If so why are we not close? And so on and so on…. The questions are endless for Maddie… and for us!
This is certainly women’s lit. This is about looking at ourselves through Maddie’s eyes. I had a bit of a problem in the beginning because I really wasn’t invested in Maddie and to be honest I felt she was a doormat under her own daughter’s feet but as her journey goes on I could relate to her a bit more.
I have a feeling, anyone who reads this will take some time, even if just a moment, to reflect on something about themselves.

First, thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read an e-galley of this book.
Maddie lives in a restored fire house. She is a single woman with a successful photography business. She has 3 grown children and several grandchildren. While her kids were small, their father died in an accident, and Maddie remained on her own. While the kids were growing up, there were a few men in her life.
One night, Maddie has an accident and falls from a ladder and breaks her ankle. After she goes to hospital and gets home and is resting, her assistant comes to work and finds her, resting uncomfortably. Maddie's daughter calls, and the two of them have a disagreement.
As a result of their conversation, and a box of letters and pictures that Maddie sorted through while recuperating, she decides to take a road trip and "drop in" on her 3 past loves to see how they have fared in life.
Maddie sees that her decisions in the past were the right ones, and this excursion has freed her from her past, and set her free for her future.
