Took me a while to get back into this series since it's been a while since I've read anything in this series or author but over all I did enjoy it
I read this book a long time ago and didn't leave any feedback here.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love love love this series. The first two in the series were so GOOD following Gwen on her journey escaping her serial killer husband. I was on the edge of my seat.
Now in this 3rd book takes a different turn. Gwen receives a series of emails requesting her help from a lady in Wolfhunter River. This eerie town does not like outsiders. Again Gwen's life is at risk while she tries to help the daughter of the women who initially reached out to her. Let's hope they all survive !
Wolfhunter River is the third book in the Stillhouse Lake series. It's best to read the books in order. I love this series! They’re all intense, chilling and fast moving. Even though Melvin is dead now, Gwen, Sam and the kids are still dealing with Mel's horrific actions. I like how this story is different from the others yet it has all the excitement and surprises like the other books. Love all the characters in this book. I highly recommend this series. Can't wait to read the next one!
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Rachel Caine for an ARC of "Wolfhunter River".
Great conclusion to a very adventure packed story. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole series. What a wild ride.
A riveting installment in the Stillhouse Lake series. Worth the read for sure, but try to avoid the synopsis if you can. Going in blind is best!
The final book in the series by Rachel Caine! As per usual, Caine is ratchetting up the drama in this installment. I'm so glad that I was able to read this.
4 stars!
I love love love the Stillhouse Lake series!
Gwen Proctor is still running from the legacy of her serial killer ex husband but the story will keep you on your toes!
Wolfhunter River
Stillhouse Lake, Book 3
I Picked Up This Book Because: I’m so attached to this family.
The Characters:
Gwen Proctor:
Sam Cade:
Laney Proctor, Connor Proctor, an unimaginable slew of “bad guys”
The Story:
Gwen is a danger magnet! It’s a little crazy how she ended up in this position. Also my fear of rural towns has been renewed.
Wolfhunter River is full of mystery, corruption and recently murder. Gwen and family get pulled into an elaborate cover up after being contacted by a concerned mother turned murder victim. There are multiple murders, attempted murders, kidnappings, false charges, and you never know who to trust. It’s chaos and more than a little crazy.
I’m not sure about the epilogue. I assume it’s a lead in for the next book but it seems odd and disconnected.
The Random Thoughts:
3.5 Stars
Firstly I'd like to thank Thomas & Mercer for a eARC on Netgalley for an honest review! Having loved the first two in the series I also had to get the physical copy.
I wasn't sure what this book would be about after the end of book two. I had no doubt that this adult thriller would be vivid and action packed, no detail left to the imagination. I wasn't disappointed. Caine describes everything to the very last detail with sickening accuracy. I definitely had complaints from my partner about the amount of times I was shouting out while reading!
The character relationships really developed in this book. Gwen and Sam getting closer all the time but of course their pasts are still haunting them. Lanny and Connor are really growing up and I enjoyed the part they played in this book. Gwen giving them more of a part when this is their lives too. She obviously realised this.
I really recommend this series for fan of adult fiction - thrillers.
A compelling story that grabs you from the beginning and does not let go until the very end.
Wolfhunter River was quite enjoyable.
Description:
Gwen Proctor escaped her serial-killer husband and saved her family. What she can’t seem to outrun is his notoriety. Or the sick internet vigilantes still seeking to avenge his crimes. For Gwen, hiding isn’t an option. Not when her only mission is to create a normal life for her kids.
But now, a threatened woman has reached out. Marlene Crockett, from the remote town of Wolfhunter, is panicked for herself and her daughter. When Gwen arrives in the small, isolated rural community, Marlene is already dead—her own daughter blamed for the murder. Except that’s not the person Marlene feared at all. And Gwen isn’t leaving until she finds out who that was.
I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!
Creepy and amazing all in one package. Keeps you wanting more and more with every word you read. What happen to a certain character, well you will have to read to find out. It pulls you in from the very start. I highly recommend this book..
Life is becoming increasingly unbearable in Stillhouse Lake for Gwen Proctor and her family. The local are trying to run them out of town, journalist won’t leave them in peace and there’s the ever present threats online. So, when Gwen gets a strange call fro a desperate woman living in the small town of Wolfhunter River, then that woman is found murdered, she takes her family and goes to investigate. Only, it’s out of the frying pen and into a raging inferno.
If you want a book that will put you through a gamut of emotions then look no further than Wolfhunter River. Caine expertly weaves a story that has you feeling a mixture of frustration, fear and, at times, fury. Gwen’s story is definitely not an easy one. But, it is absolutely enthralling. Once I started reading this book, I just couldn’t put it down, the story gets its grip on you then wrenches you through each chapter.
What I love about this series is Gwen. Strong heroines are something we all love, and Gwen has been through hell and ugliness is still being thrown at her from all directions. Throughout it all she does her best to protect her children, and now Sam, her partner. She doesn’t always succeed and maybe shes doesn’t always get it right, but you can’t help admiring her ferocity and determination to try and do the right thing, even when it’s not the easiest thing.
As well as the characters, the thriller plot of this book was fantastic. It was designed to have you at the edge of your seat. The tension gradually built as the story unravelled and the full picture started to emerge. I really liked the fast pace of this story, and Caine expertly creates an atmosphere of danger and distrust. When the big climatic scenes happen, it’s almost a relief to have everything out in the open.
if you haven’t picked up this series yet, make sure you go back and start at the beginning, Stillhouse Lake, this isn’t a series to read out of order. But, it is well worth giving a try. As well as just being a really good thriller, it’s also an intensely emotional tale that sucks you into the life of Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor and you don’t want to miss it.
As always, the Stillhouse Lake series continues to blow me away. I loved the new "cult" aspect of this storyline and find myself constantly thinking about Gwen and the rest of the proctor family. Each book does a great job of neatly wrapping up the main plot of the book, yet i'm always left wanting more.
Just like the previous book Wolfhunter River kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed this book very much.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy.
I loved the writing and was on the edge of my seat the entire time with this book, just like the last ones. Rachel Caine has only improved over time and I really thought this was so well developed and was a great character study.
I love the Stillhouse Lake Series and this book was every bit as good as the last. I love the characters and how the storyline rolls along. I recommend this author and series.
This is the third book in the Stillhouse Lake series and what a great addictive series it is . However although this book can be read as a standalone reading the rpevious books would be of benefit .
Gwen is still under pressure from the stalkers , both online and in the flesh , who cannot believe she knew nothing of her notorious serial killer husband's exploits . Gwen often recieves calls from women who want help with getting out of their dangerous sitiations ....... But when Gwen receives one such call , from Marlene Crockett, lacking in information she initially does not take it too seriously - until she receives a call from the woman's daughter .
When Gwen arrives in the isolated , rural community she finds Marlene is dead , her daughter accused of the killing - she is convinced that the Police are looking at the wrong person and is determined to find the perpetrator.
The trap has been set - one Gwen has walked straight into - can she survive , will her family and friends survive - just who can she trust ?
This is another enthralling , suspense filled novel with many twists and turns - a book I thoroughly enjoyed - I cannot wait for the next book and the continuation of the storyline .
I received an arc of the book from NetGalley and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review .
The Stillhouse Lake series is consistently great reading! If you're in the mood for a non-stop thrill ride start this series now. Gwen and her children are still fighting the stigma of having a serial killer for a husband and father. The internet groupies won't let them start new lives. Gwen get a panicked phone call seeking her help and she can't say no. Trigger warnings: violence, kidnapping, assault.
Although this was a solid book in the Stillhouse Lake series, it was my least favorite thus far. While I enjoyed knowing the different POVs, I feel that it detracted from the book just a bit. I am still very looking forward to the rest of the series and can't wait to see what Gwen does next.
