From the moment I set eyes on the cover, I was mesmerized by the single caption it held: "The serial killer isn't on trial. He's on on the jury." Cavanagh leads you in with the idea that the serial killer is sitting on a trial. The story leaves a very thrilling, suspenseful plot full of twists and turns that often, you do not see coming. I often literally felt my jaw drop, as I was reading this. Cavanagh writes with vivid details, leading you into Joshua Kane's twisted mind. Details were intertwined and meshed together in the most meticulous manner.
I really enjoyed the dual perspectives, of this book, as you are seeing narration through third person (Joshua Kane) and first person (Eddie Flynn). Cavanagh leaves you constantly wanting more as his twists and turns leave open ends. This coincides with the switching of narration throughout. It was not until the end of the story was fully laid out and you could see every little piece of the plot come together. It had very intricate details that many would overlook, but you actually find yourself questioning your own sanity and memory of details. There were multiple times I found myself going back, trying to figure out answers to my own questions that were purposely left unanswered by Cavanagh.
There were multiple grammar errors/word choices, but this was an arc copy and is not fully proofed for errors. I highly recommend this to any thriller fan or suspense searching readers. This was my very first thriller and Th1rt3en has set very high standards.

This is the first book in this series that I have read. The author did a good job of this being a good stand alone book without having had to have read the previous books. I enjoy a book with surprise twists at the end. However, this book was just too convoluted at the end for my enjoyment.

What an absolutely outstanding book. I couldn’t put it down. Steve Cavanagh is a masterful storyteller. Plenty of twists and exciting turns. Amazing. Don’t want to say too much in fear of spoilers. Highly recommended

What a ride! “Thirteen” by Steve Cavanagh (@SSCav) centers around a prolific serial killer and a tenacious defense attorney. The book moves swiftly, with great characters and crisp writing. Although the plot makes you suspend belief a little, it’s credible enough that it works. The courtroom action is suspenseful, the plot twists numerous and unexpected, and the story all pulls together. Great read, 5 stars! This ARC was provided by the publisher through @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It has been a long time since I picked up a legal thriller but the blurb for this caught my eye. I was not disappointed.
Sure there were some plot holes, who cares? This was a fast paced page turner that entertains the reader.
Thirteen was my first Eddie Flynn book, now I’ll have to read the others. Steve Cavanagh writes fun and interesting characters. The action comes fast and hard. Nice plot twists and turns keep the reader hooked.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
"The Serial Killer Isn't on Trial. He's on the Jury." With a tagline like that, how can you not want to read the book? Thirteen is the fourth book in Steve Cavanagh's Eddie Flynn series. I had not read any of the earlier books so, to give it a fair review, I read the available ebooks, The Defense (book 1) and The Plea (book 2). I was unable to find The Liar (book 3) as an ebook.
The tagline hooked me right away especially since I am a court officer also known as the jury keeper in the book. It is my job to take care of the jury before and during a trial. I can attest Cavanagh accurately captures jurors' feelings.
Cavanagh shows what a trial is really like and should be required reading for new attorneys since he gives truisms on how to work more easily in the system. The story's pace and Cavanagh's writing style match his material well. Some parts require the suspension of belief but it is a fiction novel. Throughout it all, Eddie Flynn stays true to himself as a sarcastic, dark-humored, and effective attorney.
Cavanagh has quickly become one of my favorite authors.
This 200-word review was published on Goodreads on 7/20/19. This review will be published on Philomathinphila.com on its release date, 8/13/19.

OH MY GOODNESS this was so good. It’s a little darker than I expected it to be, but it was worth every bit of it. I read this super quick because I just couldn’t stop! I will be reading a lot more of Steve’s previous and upcoming books. I’m sad I hadn’t heard more about him before! This is the fourth book in the Eddie Flynn Series, but you would never know it as it reads perfectly as a stand alone. These characters are so intense, I loved them so much! You could pick up on all their little tendencies just by the way it was written. You’re going to need to read this!

I enjoyed this thrilling courtroom drama/serial killer mash up. Smart writing and plotting with really likable characters. Will look for the author’s earlier works and recommend this book highly to my customers.

Thirteen was a fabulously fun psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing until the very end.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. It promised to be a suspenseful courtroom drama and did not disappoint from the first page on. The story centers around the murders of a movie star, Ariella, and Carl, her security guard. On trial for the double murders is Bobby, the victim (Ariella’s) husband and a star in his own right. The story is told from two points of view: Eddie Flynn, attorney, and Kane, a serial killer and juror on Bobby’s murder trial. I did not realize that this book is part of a series, as it stands alone very well. This is a very good legal thriller with a compelling twist. Recommended.

Enjoy reading courtroom drama? Like John Grisham? Then you are going to LOVE Thirteen!! The “murder trial of the century” is going on and Flynn has to prove his clients innocence while keeping both him and his client alive. You don’t have time to catch your breath as one twist after another is revealed, you will keep trying to decide the clients guilt or innocence. Can you predict it before the end?
Thank you NetGalley and Flatiron Books for this early edition and hearing my honest review. Look forward to reading more with you!

I've been hearing a lot of buzz about this book since it first released in the UK and was thriller to find it here on NetGalley.
Steve Cavanagh has written the untilnate thriller. A serial killer has managed to get himself on the jury for a trial of an innocent man. The plot twists in this book are exceptional; the writing brilliant.
Can't recommend this book highly enough.

I love a good courtroom drama and this is an excellent one! It dragged me right in with that dramatic tagline on the cover that tells us that 'The serial killer isn't on trial. HE'S ON THE JURY' and kept me guessing as to who he could be right up to the end.
This is the fourth novel in this series lawyer-writer Steve Cavanagh featuring defense lawyer Eddie Flynn. It also works well as a stand alone novel without that feeling that you should have read the earlier episodes. Eddie Flynn is a great character, a defense lawyer with a heart and an instinct for telling truth from lies. An ex-con artist, Eddie believes that a good cross examination requires the same three stages as a good con, and luckily for the people he defends, he just happens to be expert at both.
As a result of his previous skill in handling police called to give testimony, Eddie has been asked to join the team defending celebrity actor Robert Solomon accused of murdering his actress wife and his security guard. They were found murdered together in bed in the Solomons apartment and the evidence pointing at Robert having murdered them in a fit of rage is strong. However, after talking to him Eddie believes Robert's claim that he is innocent and has been set up, but has no idea why someone would want to do that. They'll also be up against one of the most powerful and successful prosecutors in New York so Eddie will have to be very smart if he is to find the weaknesses in the evidence.
Interwoven with this fascinating courtroom drama, are the moves being made by the serial killer to infiltrate and influence the composition of the jury. It's intriguing to see how he is able to do this and also to speculate as to why he want to. I found this a refreshingly original crime thriller and was totally engaged in both the courtroom drama and the mystery of the serial killer. Needless to say, I will definitely be seeking out more of Cavanagh's works in the future!

This follows two perspectives - Kane, a disconnected serial killer her feels no pain, and Eddie Flynn, a lawyer with a seedy past. Flynn takes on the case of Bobby Soloman, a popular actor who has been accused of murdering his wife and head of security. Kane makes his way on to the jury as his past as a killer is slowly revealed and Flynn himself is trying to figure out what really happened to the wife and head of security.
I was really hooked by the premise of this and the first few chapters, but it started to drag a bit after that. I think it probably could have afforded to be about 50 pages shorter. I was intrigued enough by the premise to continue reading, but didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I seem to be the odd one out with this opinion though so would definitely still recommend checking it out!

I’m not too much into courtroom thrillers, but this one pulled me in! And the idea that the killer is on the jury is just genius! This book was the kind you don’t want to put down! I spent a day and half reading it and I’m still blown away! So many twists and turns but not the typical kind. This book is smart! And if you’re smart, you’ll read it! Such a good weekend read!

⭐️Book Review ⭐️
TH1RT3EN by Steven Cavanagh
4/5 Stars
**I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and Flatiron Books in exchange for an honest review.** Pub Date 8/13/2019
I was really excited about this book and anticipated a page gripping, all nighter suspense. I was a bit let down when it was predictable up to one twist at the very end. I admit I was hooked and couldn’t put it down until the very last page.
Eddie Flynn is a former con artist. His wife and daughter left him and now he’s trying to make it right as a defense attorney. Now comes the role of a lifetime into lap- as a prosecutor for the trial of the century.
Movie Star actor, Robert Solomon; is accused of killing his actress wife and their head of security in their bed. He looks guilty as hell with all the evidence against him. Yet Eddie is convinced Solomon is innocent.
Could Solomon have been set up? Can you safeguard the innocent? How close is the real killer?

Thirteen is the finds ex conman Eddie Flynn taking on the case of Bobby Solomon, a Hollywood actor accused of murdering his new wife and his head of security. We also see the trial unfold through the eyes of serial killer Josh Kane, who has managed to be on the jury. Kane thinks this is the perfect way to get away with murder. As the book unfolds we see how the courtroom scenes as well as the investigation plays out.
I really enjoyed this one. It had excellent pacing and good character development. You really got a bit of insight into what the mind of a serial killer may be like. The characters were so well written thag you grew to care about Eddie and Bobby. Although this is #4 in a series, it read as a stand alone. The plot was very intriguing, and i would highly recommend this one.
My appreciation to Flatiron books and Netgalley for gifting me an e-copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Absolutely brilliant. This is the first book I have read by this author but it most definitely won’t be the last. If you’re not immediately drawn in by the front cover, the first page will do the trick. Well written, and captivating, Th1rt3en follows a killer through his cunning game of hide and seek but his hiding place is in plain sight and in a spot no one has thought to ever pay attention to. With chilling plot twists this is a story you don’t want to pass up.

How could you not want to read this book after reading the teaser on the cover? I was definitely pulled in by this story and it did not disappoint!
Very creative plot, equally fascinating characters and a perfect read for those that love court room dramas/murder mysteries.
I didn’t even realize this book is the fourth in a series because it definitely stands alone on its own.
Such an adrenaline rush- loved every minute of it!
Thanks Netgalley for my copy.

Serial killer Joshua Kane is so deviously intelligent, he murders a victim, frames another target for the crime, and then wrangles his way onto the jury by disposing of a potential juror and then cleverly impersonating that person, hiding in plain sight under a fake identity, all while insuring a guilty verdict in the murder trial by influencing the other jurors. However, this time Kane runs into defense attorney Eddie Flynn, who finds holes in the evidence and adds probable doubt to the prosecutor’s case. Will there be a guilty verdict, or can the outcome be even more deadly?
Cavanagh weaves a spectacular courtroom tale, and he turns something that sounds far fetched into something completely plausible. If you are a fan of courtroom drama, this is a must read, One of the best books I’ve ever read, I most highly recommend Thirteen.
