I loved every page of this book. Beachy mysteries are just perfect for me and this one checked all my boxes. It touched on many different themes - loss, family, sexual harassment, and more - so there was substance to it, yet it kept its light summer feel. I can also see this as the beginning of a series or trilogy, as we follow Drue on more of her adventures. And now I want to buy a beach house :)

Drue's mom just died, her career is over, and she has just broken up with her boyfriend. Since life couldn't possibly get any worse, she reaches out to her estranged dad for a job with his ambulance-chasing law firm. Oh wait, it can get worse. The office manager is her dad's newest wife....and Drue's frenemy since middle school.

I really enjoyed this book. Drue became obsessed with a disappearance of a local woman back in the 70's, and also with a case that she felt the law firm mishandled. I loved Drue... she was so kick-butt and determined. This was a really good mystery. This will make a great beach read this summer!

Drue Campbell’s kiteboarding accident, followed closely by the death of her mother, left Drue with nothing but the cottage on Sunset Beach, previously owned by her grandparents. Reconnecting with her father was somewhat bittersweet, since they had never really been close, but he offered Drue a job in his law firm answering the phone on The Justice Line. Drue’s new stepmother happens to be her best frenemy from school, and Wendy is definitely showing Drue who’s the boss.

Drue is captivated by a case her father litigated, dealing with the murder of a young woman while working as a hotel housekeeper. Though Wendy insisted Drue not get involved, Drue pulls the file and contacts the woman’s mother. After hearing the story, Drue becomes determined to re-open the case, believing that someone involved is corrupt. She begins her own investigation, re-interviewing people on her own, nearly risking her job. In addition, Drue discovers a file box in the attic of the cottage, full of clippings from a missing person’s case from forty years earlier. She begins looking into the circumstances, and is even more intrigued when she learns her father went to high school with the missing woman.

I was fascinated by Drue and her focus on doing what she felt was right. After losing everything but Coquina Cottage, she was fortunate to have the support of her father, though I wasn’t sure how supportive he was going to be. Her strength and courage showed in everything she did, in starting over half a state away from her friends, losing her mom and the hobby she lived for, and in helping a broken family gain the settlement they deserved from a young woman’s brutal death. I loved the mystery aspect and found this to be an enjoyable read.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is different than most of Andrews' books but it was a fabulous read. I love the plot, which is consistent throughout the book and Drue is a fantastic character. I felt like I was in the book living every scene. It's nice to read a book where people still care about others. Kudos to Mary Kay Abdrews. Enjoy! 📚

I felt like Mary Kay Andrews gave a big nod to the late Sue Grafton in her latest book, Sunset Beach, and I was all for it. I also felt she channeled a bit more of her earlier work with a nod to Callahan Garrity. Loved it all. Not quite as "beachy chick lit" as she's written previously (like with Hightide Club or Weekenders..both still had mystery attached, but felt a bit more happy overall). The lead character, Drue, just is a bit more dark and stormy as a lead. Sad that I'm finished. LOL

In Sunset Beach the newest novel by Mary Kay Andrews we met Drue who is basically down on her luck and estranged from her father ever since her mother’s death. She is working at a bar to make ends meet but she soon reconnects with her father who offers her a job and gives her the house that belonged to her grandparents. As much as she doesn't want anything from him she does need a job so she accepts and as soon as she gets there she realizes he has remarried [again] to her ex-best friend from childhood.

Brice is a lawyer and takes up all kinds of lawsuits so when a woman comes in wanting more money from the death of her daughter Drue realizes that there is something there to check out. She feels like someone tried to cover up something and this poor woman deserves justice for her daughter so she makes it her mission to uncover the truth. In time Drue discovers not only this truth but also another that she will regret finding out. We get dual storylines in Sunset Beach, we also get a mystery of sorts that took place decades before and the players in this one hit closer to Drue than she ever expected.

I really enjoyed this novel I loved how we got two storylines and how they slowly came together in a nice way. The pace was perfect and you definitely got caught up in all the mystery that this book had to offer. I went into thinking this was a light fluffy beach read but this one had a lot of depth to it and as a fan of mystery, I really liked that she played this element to perfection here. This is one Summer read that will have you hooked from the very beginning and will leave you completely satisfied.

Mary Kay Andrews
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a delightful book. Yes, it has mystery, intrigue, romance and love. But, what I enjoy most is the delightful beach setting. And to be able to see unforgettable sunsets everyday sounds like heaven. In our world of fast paced living, it is nice to enjoy Mary Kay Andrews’ books at a leisure pace and enjoy each moment. I have had the pleasure to rent a beachfront house on Tybee Island and found it most enjoyable and relaxing. This added to my pleasure of reading this book. This book for me is a solid 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy read of this book for an honest review.

This book is not a love story. Drue stumbles onto a cold case and sets out to solve it against the wishes of others. The story starts off casually but this when it starts it just keeps you guessing to the end. I really liked Yvonne and Aliyah, Yvonne's personality just jumps off the pages and has a way of laughing and having your heart break at the same time. There is a lot of strong language through out the book. I think what I wasn't a fan of in this book I found in the beginning that Drue came off very annoying and whiny I thought for someone who was 36 she would no come off as a 20 year old. I got too much sometimes. Overall the storyline was good and I enjoyed it in the end.

I read this book a couple months ago, but I still laugh out loud when I think of some of the cringe-worthy hilarious situations Andrew created. I highly recommend it!

Is it too early to say this is an excellent beach book? Well, it would also be a fun read in the snow. Look past the cover, which suggests that this might be all sunshine because it's not. Drue's had a rotten time- her mom died, she messed up her knee, and she lost her job. She takes a job at her long estranged dad Brice's law firm and finds herself working with his new wife Wendy- who was her very own frenemy when they were kids. Yikes. The good spot is that she's inherited her grandparents' beach house and that she's found a mystery to sink her teeth into. Well, that might not be so good because it asks her to take another look at her father. Why didn't he get a better settlement for one of his clients? What's the deal with the file she found in the attic? No spoilers but this one has a little romance, mystery, a fair amount of family drama, and some good twists. Thanks to net galley for the ARC. A very good read.

This was the first book I’ve read of Mary Kay Andrew’s so I did not know what to expect. Drue is down in her luck and accepts a job at her estranged father’s law firm. She moves to her family cottage on Sunset Beach, where she has fond memories of her grandparents. While fixing up the cottage she finds an old binder full of police records from a woman who went missing years ago. Why is this binder in her grandparents attic? While she is figuring out this mystery a disgruntled client comes into her father’s law firm demanding to speak to her father about her case. She feels it was not properly solved. Drue is intrigued and starts to look into her case. What she discovers has her questioning everything. Drue has her hands full with two mysteries to solve.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and they writing style. I kept trying to figure out the “bad guys” and the ending was surprising! I will definitely read more of Mary Kay Andrew’s books!

Overall a really enjoyable beach read- 3.5 stars. It took a while to ramp up, but at around 20-25% things started getting really interesting. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there were two mysteries to be solved, one past, one present. In most books that I've read, when there is a past/present mystery, the two stories are more intertwined and I didn't feel like that was the case here. I didn't feel like both of the mysteries were necessary or they should have had more relevance to each other. I felt the end of the book to be a little lengthy, but none the less enjoyed getting closure and getting that warm fuzzy feeling you get when everything ends happily!
5 stars for the beachy ambiance, I loved hearing about the Gulf coast, the descriptions of the beautiful cottages, birds, ocean and amazing sunsets. Sunset Beach is now on my bucket list of places to visit!

Another fantastic read from Mary Kay Andrews. I love Mary Kay's writing and have read all of her books. This one did not disappoint. A great storyline, Drue Campbell, has been offered a job at her dad's firm, and her 8th grade nemesis (his new partner) A mystery along with some romance steals the show. A must read. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

I love a story with a strong female lead. This was sumptuous. Great story line, a little romance, and a woman with just enough information to not allow herself to quit searching for answers.

I couldn’t put Sunset Beach down! I love the main character Drue and I really hope this isn’t the last I see of her. A little mystery, suspense and a lot of twists and turns. It is always a pleasure to read a book from Mary Kay Andrews and each one is my new favorite. Thanks to NetGalley and the author and her publisher for letting me read an advanced copy of Sunset Beach.

Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews was a fun twisted read. I enjoyed the plot line and how the characters interacted with each other. The main character, Drue Campbell has lost her mother, refound her father (who is married to her old frenemy), and moved to a new area. She is feeling out of place and confused by her “new normal”.

After her mother died and she realized that she had nothing holding her down, she accepted a job from her father and moved to the west coast of Florida. She is depressed over her mother, over her inability to kiteboard, her painful knee and in general her life. Her father saved her grandparents cottage for her and she is going to move in and start again at his business. Nothing is easy though. Her father’s newest wife (her old frenemy) is a witch, the cottage is a mess and her job is BORING. Slowly as Drue starts to investigate her new world, she stumbles across two mysteries that she just can’t seem to let go...no matter how many people told her too.

I enjoyed the puzzles the book presented us and was surprised by the ‘solutions’ of the puzzles. I was surprised by the grittiness of parts of the novel. I loved the visual of the blue heron in front of the water at sunset. Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews caught my attention and held it. The book is a good read.

Mary Kay Andrews, Author of “Sunset Beach” has written a captivating, intriguing, entertaining, unpredictable and amazing novel. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Mystery and Suspense. The timeline for this story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events in the story. The author describes her dramatic cast of characters as complex and complicated.

Drue Campbell is at an all-time low. After her mother’s funeral,, Brice Campbell, the father she hasn’t seen for many years, offers her a job. Brice is an attorney that advertises his services on different media. His office manager, Wendy is none other than Drue’s eighth grade girlfriend. Wendy is also Brice’s wife. The only good news is that Drue has inherited her grandmother’s rundown cottage, which is by the water.

At first, Drue is to screen the calls that come in to see what legitimate cases they will make for her father. Wendy doesn’t make her job any easier. Drue is very inquisitive and questions many things that are going on. Drue stumbles upon some activity in the office, that could cause major problems for her father.

Drue also finds some strange information in the attic of her cottage. Soon Drue is investigating some things that could be extremely dangerous.Drue finds information of a missing person and murder. There are twists and turns, and betrayals. Who can be trusted? I would highly recommend this intense novel for those readers who enjoy a suspenseful story.
