Drue Campbell's life has fallen apart. She suffered a serious knee injury, her mother died from cancer, her boyfriend kicked her out, and she was fired from her crappy job. In walks her long estranged father offering her a place to live and a job at his law firm. With no better options, she takes him up on them and this leads to a series of crazy moments that kept me reading to see what happened next. Mary Kay Andrews does a great job of interspersing comedic elements with solving a mystery plus some romance and a cute kid.
MKA does it again with Sunset Beach, she takes you to the beach and throws you into the waves. I loved it.
Grab your beach towel your umbrella drink and your floaty you are in for some fun.
I felt like this was darker than your typical MKA novel, but well worth reading. There is not just one mystery, but two, with plenty of twists and a couple of "omg!" moments. Romance takes a back seat to solving the crimes, but there is just enough to keep regular Andrews fans happy. This would make a perfect vacation read.
I enjoyed every aspect of this novel, another great one by Mary Kay Andrews! The characters were great, the setting was realistic. Well written and hard to put down. A cute story overall!
What a mystery filled with twists and turns that only Mary Kay Andrews can pen. With an unlikely sleuth amid unlikely family circumstances who persists until the last shoe drops. And what a surprise when that shoe drops. She keeps you guessing with suspense, laughter, and disgust until the final page. Thanks so much for sharing the book before publication.
Drue Campbell is a thirty-something woman at loose ends. Her mother recently died, she lost her job, and an injury has ended her favorite hobby. Just when it doesn't seem like life can get any worse she is forced to accept a job offer from her estranged father. On the bright side, she discovers that she's inherited her grandparents' cottage on Sunset Beach. So at least she has a roof over her head - or a partial roof. Working at her father's personal injury law office could expand Drue's horizons and perhaps her non-existent dating life. She'll find a future she'd never thought possible. Mary Kay Andrews filled her latest novel with interesting characters, a sunny Florida Gulf Coast setting, and a mystery or two that might involve someone close to Drue. I really enjoyed Sunset Beach and hope for a sequel. The possibilities for Drue and company are endless.
For a book that included two murders I found this to be a really fun story. I enjoyed following Drue through her investigations and seeing how her relationships grew throughout the novel. I would definitely recommend this for a fun beach read!

Drue Campbell’s life has been turned upside down with the death of her mother and the injury she sustained in her favorite hobby. Stuck in a crappy waitressing job, her dad (who has been out of her life for years) offers her a chance to work at his law firm and move into her grandparents beach house. From there, Drue experiences a slew of twists and turns while finding her footing in a new home, new city and new job.
I loved Drues personality and the twists and turns of the situations she found herself in. Great book!
Thank you Netgalley for this preview.
I had not read the synopsis before reading this book and from the cover and title I thought it was a contemporary romance, a light beach read.
Never judge a book by its cover or title - this is a little gem of a mystery/thriller which engaged me from the start.
Drue moves to work in an insurance claim firm for her partially estranged ex police officer father who has recently married a former school friend of Drue’s.
Drue becomes involved with a claim which she believes has been mishandled, but by whom and who is taking bribes?
More than just a thriller, this involves family, secrets and lies and learning to trust

I have read several of Mary Kay Andrews' novels, and have come to expect a good story, characters that feel real and that I care about, and an entertaining and enjoyable read. Sunset Beach is all of that.
Drue Campbell has deferred adulthood well into her 30s. She works cocktail waitressing jobs to support her lifestyle, which mainly consists of kiteboarding. When her mother dies of cancer, her current boyfriend flakes off, and she blows out her knee, Drue is forced to confront some realities. Her father has been largely absent for most of her life, so seeing him at her mom's funeral is an unpleasant surprise. But he does offer her a job at his law firm, and informs her she has inherited a ramshackle beach house that belonged to her grandparents. She is out of options, so she heads across Florida to claim her inheritance and go to work for a father she barely knows and really doesn't like.
Somewhat predictably, the change of scenery does Drue good. She morphs from a clueless sort of surfing bum into a caring and competent adult. As she rehabs the old cottage, she seems to be also repairing and brightening her own life. We watch her slowly get rid of the mountain of baggage that marks her relationship with her father.
While answering phones at the law firm, she finds out about two old unsolved murder cases and (in the way of cozy mysteries) decides to investigate on her own. The plot does become fairly unrealistic in a few places, and the ending feels a bit abrupt, but I found I cared about the characters and their outcomes.
Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
ThIS was such a fun and and suspenseful book. A few mysteries are involved that keep you guessing with interesting and somewhat quirky characters. The beach location was a perfect setting and as always, lots of great humor that the author portrays in most of her books. This will be one of my all time favorites of MKA. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
One of my favorite Mary Kay Andrews books so far and I have read then all. The story is complex and the characters are well-rounded and enjoyable. There are multiple storylines that are wrapped up before the end of the book in an example satisfying story telling at it’s best.
Drue Campbell is looking for a new start when her estranged father offers her a job and new life in Treasure Island, FL. With few prospects, a terrible job as a bartender, and a career ending knee injury, Drue has no choice but to accept. Her new life is less than perfect, she is forced to work with a frenemy, a frat boy she loathes and her father, and she learns quickly that justice is not always served. After meeting a client on a chance encounter, Drue begins her own investigation into the woman”s case as well as a mysterious disappearance from her parent’s past. While seeking the truth, Drue finds her new passion and puts herself on a killer’s radar.
This was my first book I’ve read by Mary Kay Andrews and I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed all the characters and certainly couldn’t wait to find our more on each page! I have vacationed near St. Pete so I was familiar with a lot of the towns that were talked about in the book! Thanks for the opportunity to read this book! I will be sure to check out more of Mary Kay’s books! :)
Mary Kay Andrews always manages to create characters that immediately draw me in to their story. This was no exception. I was curious about Drue's journey from the moment I met her. And no one creates a beach setting better than Mary Kay Andrews. Every year I look forward to her latest release. Great summer reads!
This was a new author for me and didn't disappoint! Drue is a hardworking woman who suffered a medical incident affecting life as she knows it including causing her to lose her waitressing job. Then out of the blue her Dad, who she hasn't seen since she was 15, attends her mom's funeral and offers her a job. She figures what does she have to loose!
Then the fun begins. She is the heir to her grandparent's beach cottage and is now working for her HS friend/enemy Wendy, her stepmother. Add in Uncle Zee, a love interest, and a mystery or two and yoiu've got a great story. The characters come to life with the Mary Kay's descriptions and you can easily put yourself in the story, understanding the situations and settings. Drue investigates a murder that took place many years ago at a local hotel and undearths newspaper clippings and a police file in the house's attic for a missing person from decades ago. She has no idea when she starts investigating how close she is to it. There's a bit of suspense, a touch of romance, and a whole lot of whodunit. The surprise twist at the end ws unexpected.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in a bit of mystery wrapped up in a bit of romance. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
I received a free ARC eBook from the Publisher and Net Galley for an honest review.

Following the recent death of her mother, loss of her job and a significant personal injury, Drue Campbell's life has been turned upside down. Her estranged lawyer father, Brice, surprises her with an appearance at the funeral with the news that her mother has willed to her the beach cottage she remembers her Grandparents summered in at Sunset Beach. With nothing to lose, Drue relocates to Sunset beach and the cottage which holds many secrets of her family's past. When Brice offers Drue a position in his law firm, complete with its own set of mysteries, Drue begins to learn much more about her new home town then she ever though imaginable.
Mary Kay Andrews has written a real page turner which I could not put down. The plot involves stories within a story and are cleverly weaved within the book. Although a little predictable, and perhaps a little unbelievable at times, the plot held my interest throughout the book. I'd highly recommend "Sunset Beach" and rate it a solid 5 stars.
I loved this book! This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last , Mary Kay Andrews will forever be on my TBR List !

A great beach read. It has mystery, love, life lessons and a twist. Could not put it down. Another winner for Mary Kay Andrews. Thank you for the advanced copy
Fast paced beach read/cozy mystery that will have you rooting for Down-on-her-Luck Drue. She is forced to work for her estranged father in his personal injury law firm so she can pay the bills and rehab the beach cottage inherited from her beloved grandparents.
She finds long ago documents which sends her on the hunt for answers in her family history, while throwing suspicions on a father not seen in over 20 years. Strong story line and nice mix of supporting characters.
