Thank you to Beatrice Jason from St. Martin’s Press for inviting me to read an e-arc of Mary Kay Andrews book, Sunset Beach. Judging by the bookcover I thought I would be reading a romantic beach read but that was definitely not the case. This is a mystery with a lot of action packed drama. The setting for the story is on and around the beach and the description of the surroundings sound absolutely beautiful. While reading there were characters that I thought I disliked and some that I wasn’t sure could be trusted. As it turned out, the ones I didn’t trust, ended up being okay and the ones I liked were the bad guys. It really captured my attention. In the beginning of the story, Drew Campbell, the main character starts off down and out. She returns to Sunset Beach after the death of her mother and starts working for her fathers law office handling personal injury cases. Here she becomes a little too attached to some clients done wrong and starts investigating on her own. This is when the action begins and your interest really gets piqued. She ends up investigating not 1 but 2 cold cases. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to other readers. Although I think all of Mary Kay Andrews books are good! I’d like to thank NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and author, Mary Kay Andrews for allowing me the chance to read and express my honest opinion. It was a 5 star read for me!
I inhale Andrews' new releases. It's the commencement of my beach books every year. I loved everything about this book. The cover is divine and correlates with the fantastic sunset descriptions in the book. The narrative has so many sharp angles and surprises, it will keep you guessing. I was hooked from the first page. I love the dialogue. Most of the characters I wasn't too keen about, but keep reading becuse they evolve. Drue, the main character, is quite wayward and has basically lived like a beach bum, but circumstances force her to face facts. The ending was good. I liked the author's end note about her own beach cottage rehabbing history.
I received an. ARC of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. This is another GREAT beach read from Mary Kate Andrews. Drue is at a crossroads in her life. Following the death of her mom and a serious kiteboarding injury she must make some difficult decisions. Her dad arrives on the scene to offer her a job at his law firm which seeks damages for personal injury. Manning the phones Drue quickly becomes involved in a case investigating the murder of a clients daughter as well as the 40 year old mystery disappearance of a local woman. As she investigates Drue may be dangerously involved in her investigations. Love this book and will look for more like it.
I always look forward to the spring and a new novel by Mary Kay Andrews. Sunset Beach is one of the best I have read.
The characters were full of life!
There was s mystery that twisted throughout the book that kept me guessing. I read the book while on a 7 day cruise and couldn’t put the book down.
This is wonderful beach read that will allow to escape to another place .her characters are always believable and fun .
Just a good chick lit book
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book
I usually love Mary Kay Andrews, but this book really fell flat. It felt like all the conflict was being forced. There was not natural flow here. There are issues the character is dealing with, but the ones she gives the most attention to are stupid. She has no drive, no goals, and the only thing she feels like holding onto are things that are in the past.
This is it, she whines. I mean, I can stand to read it. But I really didn't care for it and it didn't motivate me to keep going.
I don't know. She's a great writer, but maybe this character just didn't gel with me.
What is not to like about a book written by author Mary Kay Andrews. She has the formula for a bestseller. A story set on the beach, an old beach cottage, a likeable protagonist, a couple of unsolved mysteries and a dash of romance. This is an enjoyable book and will soon be a summer bestseller.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.

As always, Mary Kay Andrews doesn’t disappoint. Sunset Beach is full of twists and turns, with a main character that invites laughter and discontent. You’ll cringe, laugh, and shake your head at all the antics. A must-read that you won’t want to put down.
Another hit from Mary Kay Andrews! This is going to be a must read on every readers list this summer! I loved this book and devoured it within a day. I highly recommend it!
*Full review to come closer to release.
In this story, Andrews' character Drue Campbell returns home where she has inherited her grandparent's home, her own childhood home. Drue needs to deal with fitting in to her father's firm as well as his new wife--her former childhood best friend. Working as an investigator for her father's law firm, she works on a murder mystery and stumbles on an old family secret.
Mary Kay Andrews did not disappoint with this one! She transported me to Florida while I was reading this. I loved that it was the perfect mix of mystery and romance. Who killed Jazmyn and what happened to Colleen? Will Drue be able to mend her relationship with her estranged father and Wendy? I liked watching all the relationships evolve. The only downside was I wanted more at the end. I wanted more of Drue and her father and more of Drue and her love interest. Overall it was a great read!
I can't say enough good things about this book. This author is spot on when it comes to keeping the readers engaged. I felt like every chapter had something going on to keep my interest. The characters of Drue and her father Brice were well written however i give Drue a lot of credit for getting over all the pain from her father being out of her life so quickly. I would recommend this book to my friends as a must read. Thanks for the opportunity to read it.
Great Beach Read!! Has it all -- Down at luck main character, family problems, mystery and a great romance. You will not be able to put this book down. Enjoy!
Once again, Mary Kay Andrews has written another great beach read! I wanted to save this one until Spring Break but I couldn't wait that long! I was not expecting so much action in this book, but I was thrilled as I kept reading. The plot was a little predictable (no huge twist you couldn't see coming), but that didn't stop me from speeding through Sunset Beach.
Drue was a relatable main character and I enjoyed seeing her grow throughout the book. There was just the right about of romance and I loved how that didn't overpower the main story. The intertwining stories of the missing/murdered women and the flashbacks kept me hooked! I loved every second!
Family complications and dysfunction.
An athlete who faces injury and starting over. A mystery, another mystery. A touch of romance. A combination that proves quite entertaining. Great beach read.
This was one of the best books I have read in a while. As soon as I started the story I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t stop! I thought I was reading more of a beach read and was pleasently surprised when there was a mystery or two involved. The characters were also very relatable. I am honestly sad I read it so quick and it’s over!
Wow! Mary Kay Andrews did it again. I got an early version of this through Netgalley to review. This is my honest opinion. I loved the story. It was a little different from her other books I’ve read, but the beach is still heavily intrenched in the story. Drue Campbell’s life is in ruins, until her father comes back into her life offering her a job and her grandparents’ house. While trying to get her life back on track, along with fixing up the rundown beach house, Drue finds herself involved with an old cold case and a more recent suspicious murder. I loved how Ms. Andrews winds the two stories together in the book. There are periodic flashbacks to the time of the cold case. There were lots of twists and turns in the plot. In the end, Drue finally has her life back in order. She now has a closeness with her Dad, a new position at work, and a love interest, making her new life on Sunset Beach a great one. Well done!
I am a true Mary Kay Andrews fan but this feel flat for me. I really like the character of Drue but I felt that the other characters need to be fleshed out more. It seemed that the relationships moved too quickly and the plot dragged.
Drue Campbell packed up her 1995 Bronco and headed out to her new life in St. Petersburg, Fl. After Drue's mother died, she received an offer to work with her father in his downtown law firm. Drue finds out that her father has married one of her old friends while she gets to know her co-workers and settles down in a ramshackle beach cottage. She becomes interested in one of her father’s old cases and is determined to find out what really happened in this sad murder case. This well-written story is a welcomed addition to Mary Kay Andrews' list of best sellers.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read and review this book. Publication date is May 7, 2019.
Drue's mother has died and she has inherited her grandparents cottage, where she has spent many a summer. She finds herself jobless and accepts a position with her estranged father, answering the phone and listening to folks looking to get reimbursed for accidents and other wrong-doings. One of the callers, who feels she was not compensated sufficiently for her daughter's death, intrigues Drue, and she decides to investigate. The investigation uncovers issues that could involve her father. As other books by Mary Kay Andrews, this is totally enjoyable and kept me interested from the first to last page.
